Dynamically created textfields problem

Hi people,
I have a strange problem here: I want to create textfields
dynamically that are just big enough to hold the text to display.
The textfields use a font from the library. I get the metrics of
the text with TextFormat.getTextExtent(), it seems to work ok.
However, the last letters of the text are missing in the textfield
after assigning the text, when the text needs more than 1 line. The
textfield is sized for 2 lines, but the 2nd line is just empty. I
applied wordWrap, but the text doesn't show at the 2nd line. This
seems to be connected to the font that is used: I tested about a
dozen different types, and only 1 of them displays always the full
text, with all other fonts, the last 6 or so letters are missing.
The text property of the textfields holds the complete text; where
are the last letters?
So, are there any known issues with textfields created
dynamically? Or any trick to display all of the text? I'd like to
use a monospaced font, but all I have tested have this strange
problem.

Yep, the reason is I never tried that. :)
No... I'm just about to give it a try, but I want to draw a
fancy border around the textfield (other than the border that comes
with the textfield), so I guess I'll need the metrics info anyway.
Another thing is that I want the width to be not more than 150,
gotta check if that's possible with auto-size. Have to try that
now... thx for the input!

Updating dynamically created TextField

The following for loop dynamically creates 4 instances of the
same button. Each button is then populated with its own textfield.
I have given the textfield(s) an instance name of option0, option1,
etc, etc.
I want to populate the text in each field with something
different (Home, Contact, etc, etc).

Should I be trying to assign a property to "option0" or

In my jsp page I am retriving the values from the database and displaying in the jsp page, the columns are studentID and student name. Now for each studentID i am creating two textfields as date of birth and parent name.

Flash Pro CC dynamically create an input field problems?

I dynamically created an input TextField and designated a TextFormat object that is a Thai Font. The difficulty I have is the superscript above the Thai letters will not display. These tone marks are cut off by the uppermost dimension of the field.
The following is an example of the problem " นี้ "
The tone mark " ้ "does not display
If there are multiple lines the tone marks are obscured by the line above.
I have fooled around with carriage returns and RegExp as a work around but this is torture.
Any ideas?

Thank you Rob for your help. The leading property will add whatever space I require between lines. So the response was helpful there. However it does not apply to the first line.I have worked around this by adding a carriage return as the initial line of text. This is working for me

Problem with embeding the same view in dynamically created view container

              I am getiing a dump when i try to embed the same view inside the dynamically created view container of
dynamically created tabs of a tabstrip
The requirement go like this, i have 2 views in which i have have to embed the 2nd view to view1 where i have an empty
tabstrip without tabs. During runtime i create tabs as well as view containers accordingly and then try to embed view2 in tabs.

However onaction tab select i change the embeding position( 'FILE_PERS_EDIT/view container name of different tab') of the view2 an try to embed view2 in a different tab.
At this point i get a dump stating View2 already present in the window 'FILE_PERSISTENCE_WND' of component.
I think, the view2 embediing has to be removed before i add the view2 in a different tab
Kindly let me know how to remove view2 embedding from tab1 before i add a view2 to a different tab or is there any other
means to handle this problem?

Ann.: I my example, I had 3 views: VW_MAIN which embedds VW_SUB. VW_SUB has the tabs in it and VW_SUB embedds VW_CONTENT.

Problem with dynamically created columnchart (FB 4 and 4.5)

I have an application (written in FB4 but I've imported to FB4.5 with no difference in behaviour) which dynamically creates cartesian charts. The total column values should be the same but the user can group them according to different fields. This works fine except for one of the possible grouping options. When that is used, I can see that all the data is present in the dataprovider, but one of the groups is just not shown - or rather when you hover over the column it shows "0" as the value for that group.
This is the code I run when the HTTP query comes back:

Problem with string dynamically created

I have a problem a bit complex I don't know how to solve it: I have a dynamically created program that give a syntax error because a string created inside it is too long and don't stay on a single line, so the program created has some lines like this:
tot = d_1 + d_2 + d_3 + d_4 + d_5 +
d_6 + d_7 + d_8 + d_9 .
this code doesn't pass the syntax-check before it is executed and the error given is about the second line. So how can I avoid this error ? remember that the program is dynamically created so the code reported is for sample: it's possible to have more than 2 lines.

Explicitely control the length of your statements when generating them. In your sample you could code your program to create the follwoing lines:
tot = d1 + d2 + ........ + d8.
tot = tot + d9 + d100 ...... + d150.
tot = tot + d151 ..... d999.
And so on ....

Create DB Link dynamically in JAVA - Problems

Hi everyone,
I am trying to dynamically create a database link in the database. Now what I am asking is this. When I type in SQLPlus create database link 123... and execute it, the database link is created just fine.
BUT when I pass the exact same statement through a java class (ie stm.execute("create database link 123...");) I get errors....
Does anyone have any idea why this occurs?

Is there an easy way to determine the character count that is visible in a given multi-line text field when designing the form, so if I want to allow 500 characters, the text box I create is large enough for 500 characters? Obviously I can just do a trial and error process using a cut and paste of 500 characters and testing it, but is there an easier way?

since I have updated my Flash CS4 to CS5, textfields that have been dynamically created inside external classes aren´t filled with text anymore. At least they exist; the cursor appears, when I roll over the place, where it has been placed.

How do I reference a dynamically created MovieClip from another MovieClip?

I'd be grateful for any pointers to the following problem:
     I'm having trouble referencing dynamically created MovieClips (links in a side panel on a Flash website, created from an XML file) from the current MovieClip (the currently selected link).
     I wish to freeze the the link/MovieClip in its mouseOver state once it has been clicked - this part works. When a new link/MovieClip is clicked on, I wish to release the previously clicked-on link from its mouseOver state, which is what I've so far been unable to do.
     My problem seems to be referencing the previous link/MoveClip. I've used the trace statement trace(MovieClip(this).name) to determine that the MovieClips are named item0, item1, item2 and so on. However, I've been unable thus far to reference the previous clip thus far. I've tried to trace the route to the MovieClip from the stage, and also tried MovieClip(parent).item0.gotoAndStop and lots of other different permutations, but to no avail. It's the fact they seem to be in a container called 'panel' which is defeating me.
     Here's a live version I've uploaded, which might explain the problem better. Click on "UBER UNS" in the top menu bar to get to the page in question. It's the links on the left-hand side (Historie, Unser Team, etc.) which are the problem. You'll see that once they've been clicked on they remain in their mouseOver state.
     This is the code in question on the fla file, which is a file I did not create myself. The parts in black work fine; it's the red parts where the problem lies:

If anyone can help, that would be great.

What you might be after for that line is to use:
lastClickedLink = MovieClip(event.currentTarget);
For what you show, the name property of an object is a String, so I would expect you to be getting an error regarding trying to get a String to act like a MovieClip when you try to tell it to gotoAndPlay('s2').

Not Yet Documented ADF Ex 9 Dynamically Binding to Dynamically Created View

I have dynamically created a View Object and would like to build a dynamic HTML Table on a web page based upon my view. I think something similar is done in Steve Muench's sample #9. My problem is I am new to ADF and the example was done in an earlier version of JDev (I am using 10.1.3.0.4) and the JSP page in the example will not compile. I get an error at:

Saying required param "cols" is missing. I also get a nesting error in this code:

because (I think) the compiler expects a </tr> and it is seeing the <c:forEach var="attributeLabel"> tag.
Is there a setting in JDeveloper I can use to allow this application to compile? Is there a similar example done in JSF as that is what my current application is being developed using.

Get the ID of a dynamically created symbol from library, INSIDE another symbol.

I'm trying to get the id from a dynamic created symbol from library.
When dynamically creating the symbol directly on the stage (or composition level), there's no problem.
But I just can't get it to work when creating the symbol inside another symbol.
Below some examples using both "getChildSymbols()" and "aSymbolInstances"

The following methods to achieve the same are indeed possible, but i simply DON'T want to use them in this case:
1) Storing a reference of the created symbol in an array and call it later by index.
2) Giving the items an ID manually on creation and use document.getElementById() afterwards.
I can't believe this isn't possible. I am probably missing something here.

In this way (correct me if i'm wrong) you have to give it an unique ID yourself. In a (very) big project this isn't the most practical way.
Although I know it is possible.
Now when Edge creates a symbol dynamically on the Stage (or composition level) or inside another symbol it always gives the symbol an ID like "eid_1391853893203".
I want to reuse this (unique) ID given by Edge after creation.
If created on the stage directly you can get this ID very easy. Like this;
