Dynamically linking a Numbers graph into Pages document

I want to creat a Pages 5.2 document that uses a graph made in Numbers 3.1 -- I see that the older versions of iWork allow for this. Can anyone help me do this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks Tom.

The Link feature is gone. You can use the old version and have the feature you miss, or you can soldier on with the new one. Numbers is still the best place to build and edit Charts. Once you have Pasted the Chert into Pages, you can activate the chart and click on Edit Chart Data to expose the underlying table. Then you can Paste the new data, copied from Numbers, to update the Pages chart.

    Hi, I think there might be some misleading information about this.
    You can highlight a table in Numbers, copy, then paste it into your Pages document. It moves and resizes like an image, and you can directly edit any cell in the table. You can add rows, columns, etc the way you can if you create a table through Pages. The functions all remain the same and change automatically as you change the information.
    While you may not be able to link so that changes in one program affect the other, I find I don't need it to change in both very often. If it ever does become an issue, I just copy/paste whichever is "complete" into the other and continue.

    Are you using the Word Report Generation instrument? You can find it in toolslib\activex\word\wordreport.fp under the CVI directory.
    The instrument comes with a sample project that shows how to include table and graphs in a Word document: see samples\activex\word\wordrpt.cws in the samples foder of your CVI installation.

    Best bet might be to try opening them using LibreOffice [free] and save them to .doc.
    Do you really want to save them as .pages files? You are jumping from the frypan into the fire. Yet another proprietary format that Apple has again deadended with no working translation.

  • Script to merge data from Numbers into Pages document, export as PDF and send via email

    Hi,
    I am wondering if it would be possible to achieve the following with an applescript:
    1. Merge Names from Numbers into a multi-page Pages document.
    2. Export each page of the resulting document as a PDF
    3. Attach each of these PDFs to an email with specific text in the body of the email, setting the subject, the 'from' email address, as well as the 'to' email address from a field in the Numbers document.
    4. Optionally send the emails automatically.
    I would be glad to know if this is possible before I embark on trying to write such a script, and for any advice/script that would help me on my way.

    Thanks Bernard.  Sorry if my original post wasn't that clear.  I think you've pretty much got it in your paragraph starting "So, I think you're asking for", but will explain more in the hope that it will be clearer:
    I have a Numbers table with 2 columns: Name and Email.  I have say 50 people in this table and I need to email each person a version of a one page Pages document which would be identical except for their name.
    The Name field is the only field that needs to be merged into the Pages document (one time only).
    Once the merging has taken place the versions of the one page Pages document need to be exported as a PDF and attached to emails, one email from each person in the table in the Numbers document, with each email going to the email address corresponding to the name in the Numbers document.
    The text in the email would be identical except for the name again.  The text for the email body, subject as well as the 'from' field would be contained in the script (i.e. generated by the script).
    It would also be good to have the option of sending the emails automatically or manually, so that I could check that the emails that are generated are correct before sending.

  • How to insert increasing numbers in a Pages document?

    Hello and thank you in advance for your time.
    1) Does anyone know if there is a way to insert a unique number (let's say starting at 0001 and increasing by 1 to 2000) into a document in Pages?
    I want to print out tickets (8 or 10 a page) and need a unique identifier on each.
    Is this as easy as it sounds it should be, or not functionality in this software.
    2) Would using Numbers be a wise alternative? I would prefer not to have to duplicate the design 2000 times and click and drag the number all the way down.
    My apologies if there is a really simple solution that is not coming to me at the moment (which I hope is the case)!

  • How to embed B, and C size engineering drawings into Pages documents

    I am attempting to create a technical manual which includes both 8.5x11 pages (portrait orientation) and larger B and C sized PDF drawings (landscape orientation). My current process is exporting a finished Pages document to a PDF, and then manually dragging in the other drawing PDFs to create the final version. However, as both drawings and text regularly change, there is a great deal of effort to manually assemble a final doc. Plus, the TOC and other auto-updating fields in the Pages document change as new text is added, so page numbering the final PDF is a nightmare - it is presently done in Acrobat Pro.
    Any suggestions on how to make the complete manual do the following:
    1) remain in an easily editable Pages format conducive to regular updates?
    2) allow for automatic updating of pages, fields, TOC, etc. as new text and/or drawings are added?
    3) keep PDF drawings in vector format so they can be zoomed on-screen without becoming pixelated?

    In the past, Apple has system level support for portrait and landscape in one pagination. This system level support was in the graphics model, and was implemented e.g. in WordPerfect for Mac.
    Presently, the situation is as you describe, first, the main pagination is output to PDF and, second, supplementary pages are inserted manually into the main pagination.
    Off the cuff, I do not know if similar system level support is available in Mac OS X which is based on a somewhat different graphics model.
    As I understand it, what you want is possible at application level in Microsoft Word, although I don't have experience with that application.
    I would not know how to do what you want in QuarkXPress or InDesign in the versions I have. These applications using internal graphics implementations and bypass system level services on Mac OS X and Windows.

  • Insert Fields From INSPECTOR DOCUMENT INFO into Pages Document

    I was able to do this since the DOS version of MS Word and would be rather surprised if there is no way to do it in Pages. Is there a way to insert "Document Info" about the present document into the present document?
    Am trying to work up my own template for manuscripts. I use the Document Info dialog and would like to have information like Author and Title dropped into the document via a field like can be done with Page Numbers.

    Since you've posted in the Pages '08 forum, I'll assume that's the version you're using. Merging with a Numbers spreadsheet is a feature that was added in iWork '09.

  • Can`t drag and drop foto into pages document, it bounces back

    trying to drag and drop a foto from iphoteo to pages document, it doesn`t work properly and steady.
    Eventually it bounces back. I repeated to do so few times, sometimes it works into an blank page or into a fotoframe, sometimes it doesn`t.
    I checked camera type and other informations of the pictures,seems to be not part of the problem.
    I can drag and drop fotos to the desktop without problems, all jpg.
    I did drag and drop a few pictures succsesfully onto the same document or into the same fotoframe and suddenly, again it does not work.
    Any help?

    Try making a direct shortcut to the Organizer and then the Editor.
    You should then be able to drag and drop on to the desktop icon.
    On Windows right click on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
    Browse to Computer OS C:
    And find the PSE Organizer application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
    Inside the Adobe >> Photoshop Elements Organizer (yellow folder) you are looking for an application file “PhotoshopEementsOrganizer” with six small icons (e.g. representing thumbnails - could be different in PSE5 but look for the exe file)
    Select it and click OK
    Click next
    Rename by taking out Photoshop Elements leaving just the word Organizer
    Then click finish
    You should now be able to launch directly form the desktop by double clicking on the icon.
    You can set up a similar direct link to the Editor application.
     

  • How to insert blank page into pages document when using word processing mode?

    I've recently created a 50+ page document using Pages '09. I started the document using word processing mode. Now, when I view in thumbnail mode and try to insert a blank page somehwere in the middle of the document, it won't allow me to select where I want. It just selects all the pages, as thought they are one section. I believe this is because I am in word processing mode. My question is, can I convert the document to layout mode so that each page represents it's own section, without losing what work I've already done? And if so, how?
    The document is entirely text boxes and images, so I don't have any need for word processing space. I just need new pages to act as blank templates for the text boxes and images I create.
    Is it possible to keep all my work as is, and convert the document to layout mode vs. word processing mode?

    It just selects all the pages, as thought they are one section.
    That's because they are one section. You must insert section breaks to separate them. There is no need to use page layout which does make each page a separate section. You have to manually add each page & use text boxes or other containers for the text & link the text boxes.

  • Input time into Pages document with Automator or Grammarian Pro

    Is there a way (VERY NEWBIE) to have Automator input the time into a Pages document when I press a function key or another key combination? Or can Automator do it with Grammarian Pro? I write all day, and inputing time can get tedious. I have tried all the help files on Automator and have even experimented but to no avail.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Do you mean other than using Pages to input the time?
    Did you know about the Insert menu in Pages? In the Insert menu there is an option for "Date & Time…" that will allow you to insert it using various formats, and offers to update it every time the document is opened.
    If you want a keyboard shortcut for a menu item, then open System Preferences and go to the Keyboard & Mouse settings. In there, you can define your own keyboard shortcuts for menu items of a specific application or all applications.
    If a menu item has an ellipsis "..." then you'll likely need to type that as one character. You can either use the system wide Character Palette (often found in the Edit menu as "Special Characters…"), or you can simply type Option-; by holding the Option key and pressing the semicolon key.

    I am trying to insert a picture from a file into Pages using Applescript, i.e. I am trying to do via script the same thing as the Menu command " Insert" followed by "Choose...".
    I have tried the following Applescript and variants of it but it does not work:

    I seem to remember being able to copy and paste tables from numbers to pages.
    Now I have a new computer and cannot do this.
    Any hints?

    Hard to put a finger on this, maybe just maybe, a real stab in the dark, just guessing, you never know, could be a wild hunch, I might be wrong, chances are it has something to do with you "upgrading" to Numbers 4 and Pages 5.
    Use Pages '09 and Numbers '09 instead. They should be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Image blurred after import into pages documents?

    Hi there, I've been working on the user manual of my software these days. I found out that everytime I took screenshots, they were clear --- as clear as the screen, and after inserting to my pages documents, the images got blurred badly.
    I've checked the size, and they were identical, which means there are no resizes.
    I thought it was the difference of the resolution: screen was 72 dpi, and maybe pages uses higher dpi? So I converted my images to 300 dpi, and they are still blurred after insertion.

    Where are they blurred? In Pages or on the print out?
    If in Pages, are you sure you display the pages at 100% (identical to the screen shot)?
    I am not able to reproduce your problem unless I either resize the screen shot in the Pages document or change the page view to something different from 100%.
    I do not have a printer, but my guess is that the printout would look fine, even if you resize the screen shot, so it looks blurry on screen.
