Dynamics audio effect glitchy. Audio plays back too softly.

PP 7.1.0
Mac OS X 10.8.4
Basic timeline. Three tracks of audio. One of the tracks is playing back VERY quietly. This track has a dynamics effect applied, with only the "limiter" function checked on (at -3db). Audio on this channel plays back too softly. A restart of premiere fixes the problem for a few moments, but then its back to soft again. Playing the clip in the source monitor plays it back at the correct volume. Turning the effect off altogether also plays the audio at the original (louder) volume - albeit minus the limiter. The waveform itself is plenty loud. But when the effect is engaged, the clip suddenly plays back about 15db quieter than it should.
Any ideas?

Hi T-MACK,
This may not be much help but I had the same problem. Inspection showed that I'd inadvertantly set the camera on long play when shooting the footage. It seemed fine when importing into imovie but playback appeared to be double speed. I posted a question on this forum but couldn't get a satisfactory solution. Re-setting the camera and reimporting didn't help. However, I borrowed a friends camcorder and reimported the same video from that. It worked. I can't see why but it did.
Perhaps sommeone will come up with a better answer.

  • Is there some way to download music with higher volume? It plays back too softly.

I downloaded a song for our tap class, but it doesn't play loud enough for us to hear it.

That's what iTunes -> Preferences -> Playback -> Sound Check does - equalizes the volume across tracks to provide a more-even playback.

  • Audio books play back too fast on iPad

Audiobook play back too fast on iPad .Ok when played back computer have tried re setting iPad and adjusting speech speed

Have your rebooted/restarted your iPad? you do that by pressing the Home and power/sleep button at the same time until the slider to power off the iPad appears. Slide the slider and when screen activity stops depress the two buttons again until the Apple logo appears. When the iPad completes rebooting try again to see if that solved your problem.

  • H264/ACC Stream plays back too fast on some computers

    Hi all,
we got some feedback from some of our customers (about 1%) that the QuickTime streams we provide (H.264/ACC) play back too fast, about double the original rate and sound is dropping out.
I have not seen this problem myself and there is no particular movie, which does not work. It seems to be the client setup (QT settings, video card whatever).
    Does anybody know what happens?
    Thanks

  • Audio is playing back too fast

In previewing, the audio plays fine for about 15 secs and
then starts playing back very fast (aka chipmunk sounding). Sounds
like sample rates got out of sync.
    Suggestions?

Let's see if we can figure out the cause ... that might help
    us with the "cure".
    1) How are you listening to it - locally as in F4 preview?
Single-slide preview? From a remote location (web)? Locally after
    publishing?
    2) How many slides are covered during that 15 seconds of
    "good" audio?
    3) Same slides every time, or does it play well for only 15
seconds no matter which slide you start on?
    4) How was the audio put
into the movie? Created by "narrative" during the recording
process? Imported from a 3rd party audio recorder - if so, what
format was it in when imported, WAV or MP3? Inserted manually
during editing, on a slide-by-slide basis?
    5) What IS the sample rate and other "stats" for the audio
file(s)? *You can check this from the dialog at "Audio >
    Advanced Audio" . . .
    6) Is it Alvin? Theodore? Which chipmunk? And in fact, did a
    chipmunk actually DO the audio??
Thanks for your added info - and your sense of humor . . .

  • When I chose the GPU Acceleration on my general settings I only get audio and not video play back

It has been extremely frustrating for me because my computer can render files fast just couldn't read the graphics card I had so I had to unlock it. I am hoping someone on here has done something similar to help me get this to work because the only thing that I am having trouble with as far as when it is on software only is on play back. I kept dropping several frames and it was really frustrating me. I think I may have found why I am having this problem and hope someone on here can help me out.
    15. Now just add the name of the card between the “Renderer string:” and the forward slash “/” to the cuda_supported_cards.txt file.
This was on of the steps that I did not understand and could be the reason why it is not working properly because I did not know how to do this.
Like I said it is letting me switch to the GPU Acceleration mode just not letting me see any video on anything in cs6.
This is the link to where I learned how to get premiere cs6 to read my graphics card http://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/PremiereCS5-2.htm
I have a GeForce GT 525M graphics card and according to that site I can get premiere to read my graphics card to help me playback without dropping frames.
I also installed the latest driver so that can not be the issue as of now. If you know the answer please help this is very frustrating.
    Thanks!

  • WAV files play back too fast

When I choose File->Open to open an AIFF, MP3 or other file in Audition CS6, it simply plays back at normal speed. However, when I open a WAV file, it plays back at double speed (voices become high-pitched). NOTE: The sample rate (44.1) and bit size settings match exactly. This is not a sample rate issue. The frame rate is NOT set to custom.
This happens only to WAV files. The platform Mac OS X 10.8.3. Any ideas?

For some reason the songs seem to play back faster than they should. Any ideas?
How much faster? Have you timed the playback speed with a stop watch and compared the actual duration with the duration (Time) in the browser?
If youtube plays back slower, it might be caused by the network.
I have only seen this on iTunes for Windows so far - you are not by any chance on Windows right now, are you?
Are you running the latest version of iTunes?
And do you have any non-standard Audio devices installed - look at System Preferences > Audio > Output ?
Did you install any Audio Drivers?
Also look at the Audio Devices in Audio MIDI setup (Applications > Utilities):
Check the Format for you output device if it is set to 441000 Hz (compare the setting to the sample rate you see on your songs in the iTunes Library).
If this setting is wrong, iTunes may try to playback at the wrong speed.

  • External MP3 plays back too fast

    Hi,
I entered a previous post and said that my External MP3 was
not working with Flash 8.0. I tried a longer sound wave and what it
appears to be that the sound wave is playing back but at a high
    speed that is unintelligeble.
Does the MP3 file need to be converted or formated in a
certain way to use as an External MP3. I have imported the exact
same MP3 file and it works with no problem in embedded mode.
    thanks,

    Hi
Audio that sound like Chipmunks is cause by inappropriate bit
    rate.
it's best to use 16-bit 22 kHz mono sounds (stereo uses twice
as much data as mono), but Flash can
import either 8- or 16-bit sounds at sample rates of 11, 22,
    or 44 kHz.

  • Imported audo plays back too slow

I dragged and dropped a 48k wav file into GB and it played back slow. Is GB set to 44.1? Do I need to convert it 44.1k?

you have been SO HELPFUL ! thanks !! we need more people like you.
so you are saying i can render out an .flv file and just rename the extension to .swf ?? would this be a smaller file ? i cant seem to get the .swf file smaller than 56 megs out of after effects, the only way would be to make the actual size (600x336) smaller....but this would make the animation too small on the screen....and i like the size of it now. i will try the .flv thing tonight.
the firefox thing fixed itself. this morning when i tried it, it played the flash file. slowly and sluggishly, like safari, but it played it back. so maybe it had to update ? dont know....not sure. thanks again....and let me know about renaming the file...can i just change the extension ?
    thanks a million!!

  • Premiere Pro CS3 PCM audio recognized but not playing back

    Hello all,
I have an AVI file which uses the Huffyyuv codec and PCM audio. Premier Pro (PP) recognizes the audio, as I see the audip specs in the project pane.
The following are the properties of the source video:
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 500.2 MB
    Image Size: 720 x 400
    Pixel Depth: 720
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:01:11:09
Average Data Rate: 7.0 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
    AVI File details:
    Contains 1 video track(s) and 1 audio track(s).
    Interleave: 1 : 0.50
    Video track 1:
Size is 487.04M bytes (average frame = 287.06K bytes)
    There are 1784 keyframes.
    Frame rate is 25.00 fps
    Frame size is 720 x 400
    Depth is 24 bits.
    Compressor: 'HFYU', Huffyuv v2.1.1
    Audio track 1:
    Size is 13.06M bytes
    Rate is 48000 samples/sec
    Sample size is 16 bits
The audio will play on all media players and also on Windows Movie Maker. But on PP, it does not play in the source monitor or in the timeline.
Any help would be appreciated - Thanks in advance!

Well, the PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit should be fine.
Since it is not, something must be afoot. The first thing that I would do is check that that Clip has a CFA and PEK file n the Media Cache folder. If not, then Conforming might not have been allowed to complete, though the Source Monitor should be able to play it, as it relies on the actual source file.
    Then, if it's still a no-go, I'd try a Render/Replace for that file's Audio portion.
If that still does not work, if you have Soundbooth, Audition or even the free Audacity, I'd rip the Audio to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit (yes, I know that is what it already is, but something is not working), and Import that resultant file, replacing any Audio stream from the muxed file.
Now, one quick question, and probably should have been asked first - do you get other Audio to play fine in PrPro? If not, see this ARTICLE.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can't hear my audio clip when i play back my video. Why?

I recorded an audio file in QuickTime, moved it to iTunes, then imported it into iMovie. Then I dragged it to the Project area, under my video clips but you can't hear it when playing the clip. What am I doing wrong?

Well, in the "System settings" menu I have these options:
Default imput: Built-in microphone Default Output: Built-in output
Built-in input System Output: Built-in output
(In neither of the imput/output menus I see built-in audio.0
In the "Properties For" menu immediately below the "system settings" menu I get the following three options:
    Built-in Microphone
    Built-in Input
    Built-in Output
(No "built-in audio" option either in this case.)This menu is currently set to built-in microphone, and I just found out that if I set it to built-in input, the audio output below appears 'output not supported' and greyed out, and if I set it to built-in output, the audio input below appears not supported and greyed out, whereas the audio output now appears to be supported. How come? It seems that I cannot have both at the same time. Is that normal?
One more thing: I don't know if this is important, but I think I most probably is:Whenever I start Logic Pro in my computer a dialogue box appears warning me that "The previously selected audio interface is no available" and that "The built-in audio inputs and outputs of the computer will be used instead for this session."
    Thanks again Caramby!

  • Audio stops working in playing back a clip captured in Premiere Elements 9.0.1

I am capturing from a Mini DV camcorder using Premiere Elements 9.0.1 (I believe the latest update). I started this project a few days ago and was not having problems and then suddenly no sound on playback. I hear sound when capturing clips.  I am not capturing to timeline but when I go and pull up a clip to view/playback there is no sound.  I tried dragging it into timeline and just double clicking on the clip.  I can here the sound if I open in WMP.  When opened a clip today in Premeire  I had sound then next time nothing.

I have a Intel Duo Core 3.0 ghz pc with 4gb ram.  I have done many other video edits with much longer video then these clips.  These are some of my first Mini DV tapes I am converting/editing.  anyway, I can see the audio with a yellow line through it (meaning looks normal, not processing still).   When I drag the timeline cursor/bar I can hear the choppy audio segments as I drag it forward or backward.  I tried pulling up a clip in a new project and waiting several minutes before trying to listen to it, no sound.  Also, I pulled up an older project that I had worked on last and know I had no problems with the audio in that project.  Have the same exact problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Clip plays back TOO FAST

I recently imported some HD footage into iMovie 6.0. The import process was smooth, as in I could view it loading at an appropriate pace from both my camera viewfinder and the iMovie screen.
However once the clip is imported, when I click 'Play,' the playback runs the clips at twice the clip's original speed. 2x. Is there a setting I have wrong? The audio is shoddy as well. Why don't iMovie play the clips at a proper speed with proper audio?
Note: The audio and video play just fine on VTR mode on the camera.

    Hi T-MACK,
This may not be much help but I had the same problem.
