2012 R2 DC crashes when user account is renamed using RSAT Tools on Windows 7
Hello Everyone,
we have a forest and a domain both running in 2003 native mode. We have a mixture of domain controllers running 2003 and 2008 R2 and just recently deployed two new domain controllers running 2012 R2. The 2012 R2s are configured as global catalogs but
do not hold any additional FSMO roles.
Unfortunately we have a very strange issue with the two new 2012 R2 DCs:
We have installed the domain management tools on the 2012 R2 domain controllers. When managing our domain using the locally installed tools on the DCs everything is ok. DSA.MSC shows version 6.3.9600.16384. We also have a number of admin workstations
running windows 7 enterprise 64 bit with service pack 1. We have RSAT tools for windows 7 sp1 (Windows6.1-KB958830-x64-RefreshPkg.msu) installed on these machines. DSA.MSC shows version 6.1.7601.17514. Whenever we try to rename a user account from the win7
computers, the 2012 R2 DC that is targeted shows a message saying that it will reboot within 60 seconds - and then does just that. On the client we see a message saying
"Windows cannot complete the rename operation on <name> because: The server is not operational. Name related properties on this object might be out of sync."
The server logs two errors in the application log:
1. Event ID 1000, Application Error:
Faulting application name: lsass.exe, version: 6.3.9600.16384, time stamp: 0x5215e25f

2. Event ID 1015, Source Wininit:
A critical system process, C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code c0000005. The machine must now be restarted.
These issues do not occur if we target the admin workstations to use one of our older 2008 R2 DCs. Does anyone have an idea? Any help would be appreciated!
Regards
HarryI would recommend starting with the basic steps described here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18513.active-directory-replication-issues-basic-troubleshooting-steps-single-ad-domain-in-a-single-ad-forest.aspx
Once done, please use dcdiag to do health diagnosis on your DCs. If you are running security software on these DCs, I would recommend disabling them temporary for checks.
Also, see that for virus scanning exclusions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158/en-us

One user account can't connect to VPN on Server 2012
Problem with Server 2012 VPN Access. I have one user account that won't connect to RAS and I am stumped. No other account is having a problem. The permissions are correct, the connection settings are correct. But it will not connect
no matter what I do. The account will not connect from any computer. But if I use another account in the connection it connects no problem. The account will connect to Remote Web Workplace no problem, Outlook is connecting to exchange,
she connects to Sharepoint 2013 no problem. Just the RAS connection won't authenticate.
I get the errors.
Error 20271 CoId={79DB7056-D8F6-489E-8988-66A171AE49B9}: The user connected from IP but failed an authentication attempt due to the following reason: The connection was prevented because of a policy configured on your RAS/VPN server. Specifically,
the authentication method used by the server to verify your username and password may not match the authentication method configured in your connection profile. Please contact the Administrator of the RAS server and notify them of this error.
Error 20258 CoId={79DB7056-D8F6-489E-8988-66A171AE49B9}: The account for user connected on port VPN1-127 does not have Remote Access privilege. The line has been disconnected.
And this account was connecting fine for a while now. Nothing has changed on the Server or her computer.
I have researched the errors, none of the fixes apply because it's only one account having problems and it looks exactly the same as other accounts that can connect
Any help would be greatHi Karama,
Does this account belongs the same group with other accounts?
To verify if it is a issue of policy configuration, please try to create a temporary policy with no restrictions.
To create a policy with no restrictions, please follow the steps below,
Create a network policy.
Add Day and Time Restrictions into the Conditions.
In the Day and Time Restrictions, choose permit all.
In Constraints, allow all authentication methods.
Leave other settings to default value.
Move the policy to the top of the list.
If it works, please check your original policy, it should be a policy configuration issue.
If it doesn't work, please check the event of NPS, the policy preventing the authentication is logged there.
If the request matches the temporary policy, please try to reset the password of the account.
Best Regards.

Windows 2000 user account migrate to new Windows 2012 R2 domain
Hi all
I have a customer using Windows 2000 domain with many user accounts and file share service.
Now they want to use a new Windows 2012 domain without upgrade from old 2000 domain due to some hidden problem.
Customer requested to keep user name, password, uid for existing file share access.
May I know any tools for migrate user account from Windows 2000 domain to Windows 2012 domain?
thx
Q KHi,
Can you please confirm your requirement, that is you will be using a new Windows 2012 domain with only the user accounts from Windows 2000 domain.
If the above text matches your requirement, I would suggest you the following steps,
1. You can use CSVDE - command line tool to export the AD user information as CSV file from Windows 2000 domain,
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/data-center/simplify-admin-tasks-by-exporting-active-directory-data-with-csvde/
2. Then, you can import the CSV file with required user attributes (domain details modified according to the target domain) to Windows 2012 domain using PowerShell as
shown in the link given below,
http://blogs.technet.com/b/bettertogether/archive/2011/01/09/import-bulk-users-to-active-directory.aspx

Restore deleted AD User Account in Windows Server 2012
Good day.
I know Windows Server 2012 has an Active Directory Recycle Bin feature, however upon enabling the feature it doesn't display the deleted user account I have deleted prior to enabling the feature. Is this normal? Does the feature only displays deleted AD
objects after you have enabled it? Is there other way to display those objects? Thanks in advance.Hi James,
Yes, You should have a valid system state back to perform an authoritative restore.
In case you don’t have any system state backup, you can use ADRestore to restore tombstoned objects. When an object is deleted from Active Directory, it isn't actually removed but is instead marked as deleted by an internal marker called
a tombstone.
Note: ADRestore cannot restore the group membership for a user. Meanwhile, not all attribute data can be restored.

No he can _not_, as there is no tombstones when the recycle-bin is enabled, recycled objects can not be restored/reanimated.

I am seeing something odd with one of my RBA settings. Keep in mind I am seeing this as a 'Full Administrator'.
I created a new test Security scope, Security Role, created a test Active Directory group and then entered that AD group as a new account name under Security>Administrative users. I added the new Security Role under the Security Roles tab of the
Account name (Administrative users) properties and also added the security scope that I created under the Security Scopes tab. I was able to see all the settings I had created/exported in the RBA viewer and everything with the role worked as desired.
I am now looking to clean that up but I don't seem to be able to. I am starting under Administrative Users>Account name and trying to unlink the Security Roles and Security Scopes that listed in those tabs. However, remove and deletes on this
stuff are all greyed out. If I add another role to the Security Role tab I can then remove that, but I cannot remove this 1 particular one. The result is that I cannot remove the custom Security Scope, Security Role and ultimately the Administrative
user.
Does anyone have any idea why I can't remove the security roles and scopes from the Account Name?I am now looking to clean that up but I don't seem to be able to. I am starting under Administrative Users>Account name and trying to unlink the Security Roles and Security Scopes that listed in those

I'm able to "delete" one admin user or group (account name) from Administrative users node (\Administration\Overview\Security\Accounts). I tried with custom security role/scope etc....even the same user was part of \Administration\Overview\Security\Accounts.
It seems something wrong with your FULL admin account ? Do you've any other FULL Admin account? If so, can you try with that account?

MDT 2012 Windows 7 Deployment Stops At User Account and Computer Name Setup Page
I was given a sysprepped custom Windows 7 WIM image that was set up by a third party that didn't use MDT to create the WIM.
I created a task sequence to deploy it, but it never finishes. After the OS installs and it reboots, it comes up to the white setup page asking for a user name and computer name that looks like this image:
Is there a setting in MDT that can change that behavior?Are you joining the computer to a domain?
It sounds like MDT did not create the unattend.xml file itself (or is there an unattend file already in the image itself?)
MDT needs to be able to autologin with the local admin account
From MDT in your task sequence - OS info - Edit unattend.xml you can check if your unattended file is correct.
Check what's in there for:
- computer name in 4 Specialize area - Windows-Shell-Setup_neutral (it should be empty if you want MDT to handle it).
- Also i think you need to have in the Specialize section, under Microsoft-Windows-Deployment_neutral - Run Synchronous an EnableAdmin insert
This will enable the local admin account
- Also check in phase 7 oobe System in Shell-Setup_neutral
There should be an autologon with a count of 999
Check if you have any Local Accounts there.
Finally read this:
When I am joining clients to a domain, can I avoid creating a local user
account on the computer?
Yes. To do this, create an image unattend file that adds a domain account to the Administrators group. In addition, you must delete the <LocalAccounts> section if it is present in your
unattend file (simply commenting it out will not work). An example file is below. Note that if domain join fails, Windows Deployment Services will not use the unattend file so you will be able to create a local account. For more information about creating
unattend files, see Automating Setup.
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
<unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend" xmlns:ms="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State">

</DomainAccount>
<Domain>DomainName</Domain>
</DomainAccountList>
</DomainAccounts>
</UserAccounts>
</component>
</settings>
</unattend>
I tried opening the unattend.xml from the MDT workbench, but it errors out saying it cannot be done because the captured image is x86. -

Can't enroll device for user and this user account is not authorized to use Windows Intune.
Hello,
We have SCCM 2012 R2 inegrated with intune via an intune subscription. When I enroll a device with my admin account there are no problems, but when I want to add it with another user account which is a member of the Intune users collection, it can't be enrolled.
When I tested on https://portal.manage.microsoft.com with the credentials of the user I couldn't connect and received the following error: This user account is not authorized to use Windows Intune.
Do I have to do anything in the https://accounts.manage.microsoft.com as there is a checkbox saying Windows Intune. this is unchecked now for all the users even my own account on which I'm able to enroll a device.
Or is this a license problem? I know configuration Manager uses licenses for Intune but where can we track how many licenses are used and how many available? Is there some kind of report available?
I hope someone can help me
Kind regards,
RobbenI added them yesterday and this morning I was still not able to enroll a device with the added user his credentials.
The UPN is correct. Maybe I need to force the DirSync then? Or will one day of waiting be enough normally?
I can see the user in the intune management portal. Does this means it has been synced?
Another thing I noticed is the cloudusersync.log doesn't show them being added? What I was thinking is I first used the all Users collection in the subscription and afterwards I changed it to a specific collection with only the test users. Could it be that
they all synced already and the log doesn't show them anymore?
A warning in this log shows this also:

How do I make my old user account perform like the new one?
I have a macbook pro 13" 2008 with 8 gb of ram that has been showing stuttering in hd video lately (or maybe when i upgraded to lion). I created another user and it doesn't seem to suffer any stuttering. Perhaps it doesn't have weird things running the background like the 655mb kernal task I see in activity monitor. My question is, how do I make my old user account perform like the new one? I've tried to turn off things running the background, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks!

I've got a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 iMac from Feb 2012 and the newest Apple TV 2 that I bough t a few months ago (June 2012 I think).
On my iMac I set up a second user account besides my primary account to allow my ladyfriend to use Apple TV mirroring to watch movies from my user account's Public folder. It worked for a short time and then (now I wonder if this was when 10.8.1 was released) it ceased to work.
Here's what happens now:
1. I log in as the TVwatching account (leaving my primary account logged in)
2. In the TVwatching account I switch on Apple TV mirroring and the result is (on the mirrored screen, not the iMac) an alternating glitchy green screen with bits of the TVwatching account's desktop and then bits of my primary account's desktop flashing in the background
3. I turn off mirroring
4. I log back in as my primary account (leaving TVwatching user logged in) and turn on mirroring and the mirrored display looks just fine
5. I turn off mirroring
6. Log back into the TVwatching account (leaving the primary user logged in) and this time, when I turn on mirroring, it's clearly viewing my primary user's account --- HELLO PRIVACY BREACH!!! Also, no green screen and no flip-flop flashing of the two user's desktops.
When I log out my primary user and just log into TVwatching account it works as expected but I would think I should be able to have multiple user account support since I leave my computer (and my primary account) on all the time.
One thing I will try is the newly released 10.8.2 update (installing as I write this) and I'll see if I can still reproduce.I should add that I did a system restore of the Apple TV this evening too and was still able to reproduce, as well as the firmware update that was available. As far as I can tell, the Apple TV is up to date on the latest everything.

Access Denied creating user accounts through vba
Hello,
I have a MS-Access application that runs on a Windows 2012 server. My customer logs into the server using RDP. The MS-Access application is started up automatically by means of the environment variable in the user settings. The customer needs to be able
to create new windows users for this application, simply by clicking a button.
The VBA script to create users works, because when I start up the MS-Access application with my own logged on Administrators account, the new users get created. If my customer tries it, he gets 'Access Denied' error. I have added his user account to
the Power Users group, but that did not solve the problem. I also tried to make him member of the DCOM Users Group, the 'Access Denied' error remains...
I do not want to give him administrator priviliges, because he is 'just a customer'...
What do I need to do for this setup to work? I tried altering some DCom settings, but frankly I do not have enough knowledge to feel comfortable with this. Hope anybody can help me out here...
best regards, RobIs this a standalone server? Only administrators can create user accounts, so there is no work around for that. You could look at something that has the administrator account/password stored and launch PSEXEC or something else in an elevated session behind
the scenes but that is a security volunerability because the credentials are stored.
If the account is being created in an Active Directory environment you could delegate permissions to the appropriate OU for your customer.

Videos won't play in my admin account but will in the user account?
why won't some videos play in my admin account but will in the user account using Safari or FireFox?
I have a mid-year 2012 MBP w/Mt Lion OS X10.8.2, I believe all s/w is current. Have deleted cache, reset safari and just about everything I can find in the blogs.After looking at another post (How do I remove a filetype from the Applictions Menu), I succeeded in removing m3u from my Application's Content Type in my user-account but it did not solve my problem. I still get a "What should Firefox do with this file?" dialog.
Crap!!!
