@tap09
Your E63 does not have integral GPS chip and requires a Bluetooth GPS receiver unfortunately:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/e63/nokia-e63-how-to/pairing-with-devices

  • So is WTHR really keeping my GPS active? ...

Just installed (on my 4S) the beautiful weather app WTHR ( http://wthr.co/ ).
But I noticed that since I installed the app, the GPS/Location services arrow is on almost constantly, even when the app is not running in the foreground, or running at all. And the battery is getting run down as though I had a navigation app on in the foreground.
When I go into Settings->Location Services and disable them for that app, the icon instantly goes away. If I turn it back on, the icon comes right back.
Has anyone else run into behavior like this before? I restarted the phone but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
    Thanks,
    Chris

The Weather Channel App contained a bug a few releases ago that did the same thing.  Contact the developer.

  • GPS issue please help me please

    Hi guys,
Well i know there are several forms for GPS issue but i cant find the right one for me...Please guys help me if u can.
I have N95 8 GB with GPS activated for Middle East Dubai....
Now the issue is this that before i was used to connect very quickly say about 10 minutes but right now i mean as of last couple of weeks its taking hell of time indeed not connecting at all...I place my mobile and my frnds mobile at same place but mine is not connecting at all...his mobile connects like in minute or so....please can u guys help me...my mobile is rarely used for 3 months...
Do i need to change some settings....If satellite is not available it sudnt connect to my frnds same mobile v20....but it connects to him not to mine....

First thing you do is to run GPS Data in connectivity and see if the phone achieves GPS lock any faster than now.
Secondly, run Nokia Maps, Goto Options>About and tell us the version you have. It should be accross the top of the screen.

  • Does Find My iPhone Use Up Battery When Activated?

I guess the subject line asks my question. If I activate Find My iPhone does it keep the GPS on all the time thereby using up extra battery power?
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

What will use a push notification? Do you mean that when I go to me.com or use the Find app on another iPhone that only then will my iPhone be contacted and its GPS activated long enough to find it and that then the GPS will be deactivated? Do you know where I can read more about this?
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

  • Please recommend GPS App for Tour

Hello, I have Verizon Wireless and would like to purchase a GPS for my BlackBerry Tour.  I see that there are a lot of different options.  I simply want a GPS that works like a Garmin, where it displays the streets and has a voice that tells me when to turn. I do have GPS activated on the phone so I just need an App that works with it other than Google Maps.  I tried a couple of free GPS apps and they sucked so I know that I have to pay if I want a good app. Please recommend me such a GPS app.  Thank you.

This is not much of a solution, but if you switch to Sprint, they give you a free GPS application that works just like your Magellan/Garmin/etc.
I would quite literally be lost without my Sprint Maps

  • Nokia C7 with no GPS after Nokia Belle refresh (11...

    Hi all,
Before install this last firmware, my C7 GPS was working perfectly. With Nokia maps 3.09, LeGPSData2 or GPSInfoQt.
The phone was updated through FOTA. Now, the GPS antenna doesn’t capture any signal, even after leaving the phone for a long time outside with a clear sky.
I tried to install again Nokia maps, installed nokia maps suite 2.0, updated to the latest Nokia PC suite and installed again the same firmware using an usb cable, but nothing could solve my problem.
Activating or deactivating the assisted GPS didn’t help.
When running the LeGPSData2 app, it keeps searching for a signal, but it never finds one. Even with A-GPS and mobile data on, small red bars appear, saying that have several (11) satellites in view, but it can’t fix even one.
There is any diagnostic tool I can run to check if this is a SW or HW problem?
    Please help me!
*note; removed mention of software not publically available.

I seem to have developed this issue also. As a Nokia owner and 'fanboy' since about 1998 I'm most disappointed.
My GPS was last working definately in October as I used it to log participation at an event with Sports Tracker.
I know I applied an update since then (I believe I was on the original Belle in Oct, but I seem to remember applying an update since then which was probably the 'refresh').
Interestingly, if I have network on, the phone in Nokia or Google Maps will get a position, but will not connect to any satellites. Attached is screenshots showing results in Nokia Maps, Google Maps, LEGPSData2 AND Garmin XT. In LEGPSData2 and Garmin it appears that it can see some satellites as there are some shown, but it is not determinig a position for some reason.
Garmin and Sports Tracker will not get GPS data. Just says trying to connect to satellite.
Google appears to cycle between the following three statuses over and over in the top right with GPS enabled:
    Initialising GPS...
    Seeking GPS Satellites (0)...
    GPS active (0)...
I've tried a reinstall with Nokia Suite and reset with *#7370#. Nothing seems to allow it to get a working connection. What more can I do? I wanted to try a downgrade, but believe this will brick the phone, and I don't want to do that and I don't want to have to replace my phone as I'm happy with my C7 and if it's going to cost me money, I may as well just go with a new phone which will likely not be another Nokia in that case.
It's most disappointing not to be able to use Sports Tracker and my Heart Rate Monitor that I invested in now that I have found the time to get back into cycling again...
    Help appreciated.

  • E71: Why does Google Maps not use GPS and track my...

Why is it that Google maps only gives me a GPS signal accurate to 60-2000m. (depending on where I am)
Nokia Maps 2.0 would follow me down roads and footpaths, but Google maps just gives a rough approximation inside a large circle. My friend had an N95 Black and now an N97, and has testified to the exact same problem.
If I could get Google Maps to work with my GPS I would probably delete Nokia Maps, as it is otherwise mostly inferior.
(I've gone through the laborious process to download Maps 3.0 and it is pretty rubbish to be honest - big, bloated with inferior maps)

Google Maps can be set to use your GPS if your phone is equipped with it.
    Simply run Google Maps...
Options > Tools > Use GPS (check it or uncheck it for on and off, it toggles)
Current version is 3.2.0 which supports layers and Latitude.
The good thing is that it will get a cell tower lock (where supported) first before it establishes a satellite lock so you get a position, albeit approximate, faster.
You can tell it has established satellite lock when a small box on the top right corner of your app shows you "GPS active (x)" where x = number of satellites locked.
Unfortunately, it does not seem to support the magnetometer on the newer phones yet for compass heading.
    Good luck.

  • N97 Mini can't get a GPS fix on Ovi Maps but insta...

Yeh, well I got my N97 Mini yesterday and it instantly fixes on a satellite on Google maps but  when I try Ovi maps or the positioning app (Menu> Apps> Location> GPS Data> Positioning), it doesn't connect at all! I'd really like to be able to use Ovi so what can I do?
    -HR.
    N97 Mini- RM 555- v11.0.045
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Google maps uses the cellphone mast and the internet to determine your position, apart from the GPS on your device.
On Ovi Maps or Positioning app, have you configured it to have A-GPS activated? Furthermore, Google Maps is fast in getting a "map" because it only downloads maps on the fly, of maps of the area on screen, while Ovi Maps is trying to download the maps for an entire country.
Go to Menu>Apps>Location>Positioning>Positioning Methods. Make sure you have A-GPS and network based turned on (you can use it turned off if you want, but turning them on will make the initial fix faster). In Positioning Server, make sure that the server address is supl.nokia.com, and the access point is defined.
The first ever fix from a phone can take anywhere from 5min to 45min, depending on various factors. Also, make sure that you have downloaded the maps for your country into your phone.

  • N86 problem with gps after firmware update

J2ME-apps crashes or hangs with external gps after upgrade to firmware 30.009. This worked before the update.
The phone is a N86 RM484 and external GPS is a Globalsat 359.
The apps in question are GC LIve (http://live.geocaching.com/dl) and a homebrewn app.
When using external gps I only have "external gps" activated in "positioning methods". When using internal gps all options EXCEPT external gps are activated.
"OVI Maps", "Google maps" and "GPS status" all work fine with external GPS.
I've tried to reset the phone with three different methods but none fixes the problem. Methods I've tried: *#7780#, *#7370# and the acrobatic 4-button combo.
I'm all out of ideas, and hope someone has a solution. / Richard

    Hi again!
I've used ovi suite to reinstall prior to a reset, and also after a reset. It makes no difference to the problem
What would happen if I wiped the entire built in mass storage (E? There's lots of folders and files there that seems to be untouched regardless of reset method. Could it make things worse?
    Other ideas very welcome!
I'm not at all interested in demo versions of games that come bundled with this phone and all private stuff is backed up.

  • Can you use GPS app while talking on the phone at the same time?

Hi I'm just curious because I will be getting a iPhone 4 in May and I wanted to know if it's possible to be in a phone call while also using an GPS app?
Does the GPS app use the data connection or the GPS signal or satellites?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Bruce

Thanks and I also did some research and found out that with GPS active, if you load your route/directions prior to making a phone call the route will be cached and navigation still works. The GPS will tell you where you are along the route.
But if you're on the phone and then try to load a map or navigation it will not load your route until it can download the map, meaning you will need to wait until you get off the phone call to download the info.
So if you know you will need to use navigation, turn on your GPS, load your map/route to start navigation, then make your phone call. Makes sense to me now and if anyone needs to know here is the solution right here.

  • IPhone GPS programmed to stick to nearby roads

I have been using this app called +3 to record my rides. Since about iOS 5, i noticed the GPS on the phone started to try to stick to roads when I was going offroad. When I get more than 300 feet away from the road, the GPS suddenly corrects its position and starts to show correctly where I am. When I ride parallel to the road about 200 feet away, the GSP shows me right on the road for the whole time. It seems to me that whoever introduced this "feature" decided to not trust the GPS and let the software decide where I am instead. It seems quite irritating to me as I can't quite tell my route once recorded inaccurately. I have observed the behavior with both my iPhone 4s and 5 with no difference. Has someone else experienced this with their phone?

GeekBoy from Ilinois, thank you for your answer.
I found this report which fully backs up what I experience:
    http://ilquest.com/2012/11/02/ios-6-is-unusable-for-people-relying-on-accurate-g ps-tracks/
I use a different application (Fitness Rewards by Plus3) and I experience exactly the same behavior. Here is one example:
    https://www.plus3network.com/activity/GPS-activity/2773017
I am attaching the section in question here as a picture. You can see how the phone "snaps" to the nearby roads.
I am not being a detractor here but rather reporting a problem with a "secret" feature which happens not to be that good of an idea. I believe it's in apple's interest to roll it back or improve it so the GPS works as expected.

  • Andriod GPS discharges battery while charging

I recently purchased the Andriod phone with the VZ car charger and GPS dock for Google maps.  While in the cradle with GPS active, the battery begins discharging within 15 mins or so of use.  I have tried unplugging, resetting, etc. with no luck.  The only fix I have found is to turn the GPS off and wait a while.  I tried using the GPS in my house docked with the wall charger and don't seem to have the discharge issue.  I spoke with VZ custome service and they are sending me a new dock under warrenty.  Someting leads me to believe the dock is not the issue, as it is simply a plastic mount.  My phone has been upgraded to 2.1 OS.  Does anyone know of a solution?  This issue makes the navigation dock useless, as by time I arrive at my destination the battery is dead.  Thanks in advance.

Jim is right, the droid gets too hot in the sun to charge.  I used the mounting disk to put the car holder on my dash instead of the windshield.  This helped a lot as it gets some shade ( depending on the sun angle ) from the roof and some cooling from the air vents....  In my car I an direct some of the cool air to the defrost vents....  This works well...
P.S. It is a good thing that temp check was built in.  **bleep** Ion batteries will explode into a fire ball if over heated too much during charging...

  • GPS Fix problem

    Hi all,
I'm a developer for IGN France, I develop an app in Qt which uses Location API.
I really don't understand the GPS on the 5800 XpressMusic.
I explain, when I'm using the GPS, the first fix takes several time (10 to 20min), for the first fix, I know that's normal.
But if I turn off the GPS for 20min, the next fix take 10 to 20 min but not everytime...
And that happen with a clear sky, without any cloud...
All is done without the A-GPS activated because my app will be used in some place that you can't use A-GPS.
So why,for the second fix, it takes so long sometime  and sometime it's very fast ?
Is there a config file which store some informations like others devices ?
Or all my customer must use A-GPS everytime they need the location ?
    Thank for reply.

When the phone has a clear satellite signal it starts caching ephemeris data. This information will speed up future GPS locks, but the data expires relatively quickly (hence the name).
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.
