E-Bay only shows pictures unless Firefox is in safe mode

'''''bold text'''''Hello, this problem developed it seems of it's own accord. However, my dogs have a nasty habit of stepping on my keyboard so they may have changed something by doing that.
I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium w/Firefox 5.0. When I look at an auction on E-Bay there is no script, or writing, there are only pictures that are viewable. Weird that it just happened arbitrarily. It was the same on re-start until I restarted Firefox in safe mode?
Thanks,
Shannon Smith
P.S. I'm in safe mode now and do not have a URL to provide, sorry.

Extensions can sometimes be the cause of problems. If the problem does not occur in Safe Mode, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem. See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • I can't use Firefox except in 'safe mode' is there a solution?

for the second time in a month my Firefox has collapsed.
I had an IT company get it back working through remote access 3 weeks ago however it has now 'disappeared' (i.e. when I click the icon nothing happens) and the IT company have tried for 2 days to get it back to it's original state.
Apparently the only way it will work is in safe mode however I can't use that as a method of operating.

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • Why is Firefox running in Safe Mode in Windows Start, ever since updating to 6.0.2.4?

just answer the question please...... and tell me why since upgrade approximately 2 weeks ago to 6.0.2.4, is Firefox running in Safe Mode and why? Also, my menu bar completely changed and all my menu preferences disappeared... WHY? The menu bar went to a weak Yahoo format, and basically ousted my Google home page. Why?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode with all toolbars hidden.
    * Press F11 to toggle full screen mode (Firefox/File > Full Screen)
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Menu+bar+is+missing
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
Do you get a Safe mode start window or is it only that the Firefox window looks different?

  • This shows up on blogs only: Script: chrome://fctoolbara6c52477e73d46af8371b86ff0573072/content/fctoolbar.js:1 and it only shows up in firefox not in IE . What is this and how can I stop it?

This error (unresponsive script) only shows up on blogs and only in firefox. I can visit the same blogs in IE and the script does not pop up. I have to click it several times to make the box go away. The example URL below is just one of the blogs that it is doing it at. It is happening at almost every blog I visit.

A possible cause is security software (firewall, anti-virus software) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Unless I'm in safe-mode, Firefox will not let me type more than one letter.

I just received a new hard drive yesterday for my Inspirion N5110 (Windows 7). Firefox worked okay shortly, but has since begun to freeze after I type one or two letters. So if I type "nytimes.com" only the n appears. However, Firefox IS registering that I'm typing them, just not showing it. The same principal applies when I click on options. It will open me to the current tab (general) but let me go no further. But if I click on, say, advanced in the options it will open to the advanced AFTER I close it and reopen options, and the problem still persists, only this time on the advanced tab.
Reinstalling Firefox has not changed anything, only safe-mode works. Disabling plug-ins has not helped either.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Firefox 22.0 ONLY connects to Internet in Windows 7 'Safe Mode' (IE does connect)

FireFox 22.0 only works in Windows 7 'Safe Mode'. Any other program on computer that needs the Internet connects fine; i.e. the Internet connection is good.
Have not recently installed an update, nor 'Add-On'; this is PURELY a FireFox problem. The problem started "suddenly".. no new installs of programs etc.
    Actions:
    - Deleted Firefox; Re-Installed it → Same result, FF does not connect
    - Reset Computer to earlier time/date → Same result.
    - Created new FireFox Profile; signed in with new profile → Same result.
    - Renamed 'Firefox.exe' to 'Firefox1.exe' → Same Result
    - Run 'Norton Antivirus' scan → no problems found; Same result
    - Deleted "Norton AntiVirus' → Same result.
    - Run latest updated 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware' scan → no problems found; Same result
    - Deleted 'Anti-Malware' → Same result.
    - Cleaned Registry of any 'Mozilla' and 'FireFox' reference → Same result
→ Checked in 'Safe Mode' 'Task Manager - Processes' ... few files there.
→ Checked in 'Normal Mode' 'Task Manager - Processes'.. a lot of files there...
    > In 'Normal Mode' deleted 'Processes' files to bare minimum, testing FireFox after each deletion → Same Result.
    Note:
In Windows 7 'Safe Mode', there are two files which are NOT shown in 'Normal Mode' in
    'Task Manager - Processes';
    - ctfmon.exe &
    - dllhost.exe.
Can't find info on them if they're needed by FireFox or not to connect to the Internet.
    > In 'Safe Mode': they are present, and FF connects.
    > In 'Normal Mode': they're not present, FF does NOT connect.
    Could still be coincidence.
As for the "Troubleshooting Information" that's associated with the Question page for posting this question ("..This information gives details about the internal workings of your browser that will help in answering your question...."):
"...A window will (NOT) open in the top corner..."...
Because it ONLY works in FireFox webbrowser.. and guess what?...
My Mozilla FireFox Web Browser can NOT connect to the Internet... (See Top of this Question Page).
And guess what happens when I click on "...Try these manual steps..." to provide troubleshooting information?!?!?!?
Another "..Fill in the details of your question.." page opens up...
Anybody any thoughts? Pascal Finette? Jamie Zawinski? Dave Hyatt? Joe Hewitt? Blake Ross?
Maybe anybody else from the Netscape Navigator days still around??!?! ;-)

Had deleted '''HideMyIP-P''' from computer recently, and didn't have problems untill I re-started computer... Which, come to think of it now, wasn't until a few days after deleting ''''HMIP-P''''... (computer is 'on' 24/7).
Then, on start-up, it wouldn't allow FireFox to connect to the Internet.
After reading through the website you recommneded, which mentiond ''HideMyIP-P'', I re-Installed ''HMIP-P'', then turned the "hiding" 'off' and was allowed(!) with FireFox to connect again.

  • Pages won't display only in Firefox, even in safe mode (I can see requests and replies coming back but it seems like the page rendering cancels).

I have tried safe mode, all the options outlined here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can
This doesn't seem to be related to any particular site. When I try to access a web server running locally on my machine, I can see that the request is sent and the server responds as well. But the page will not render.
    What I'm trying to do:
    1. Open firefox, navigate somewhere (works)
    2. Browse around
    3. Seemingly at random, when clicking a link, it will stay in the state a:active and the new address will be displayed in the address bar, but page content will not be rendered (link still active, as I was holding the mouse button on it)
One site that it happens with, is http://fortumo.com
happens in safe mode, with or without addons and doesn't seem to be affected by the theme either.

  • My firefox stuck on safe mode. Help istructions didn't help. Can't open links by clicking them. Only copy/pastethe hyperlink. Can't click open the messages in my mailbox. Firefox is refusing to "open in a new window." -only in a new tab.

I even had to submit this question through Internet explorer

Hi tlaclair, when I click that link, here is what I see (observed using the Fiddler2 program, which intercepts web traffic between your browser and websites):
    (1) The server at link.p0.com sets 1 cookie and redirects to http://t.mookie1.com/t/v1/event?migClientId=181&migAction=email-click&migSource=mig&migDest=http%3a%2f%2forder.dominos.com
    (2) Firefox follows the redirect and the server at t.mookie1.com sets 3 cookies and redirects to http://order.dominos.com
    (3) Firefox follows the redirect and the server at order.dominos.com redirects to a secure session ([https://order.dominos.com/])
These kinds of redirects are completely standard; if you set Firefox to warn you about redirects, then a bar usually appear below the address where you can click an Allow button to continue. You can check whether you have this feature turned on here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced > General
If Firefox isn't blocking the redirect, it's possible that one of your add-ons is doing it. A standard diagnostic for interference by add-ons is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the Safe Mode dialog, do not check any boxes, just click "Continue in Safe Mode."
If the link works correctly, this points to one of your add-ons or custom settings as the problem.
    Any change?

  • Firefox will not open up. It gives me the choice to reset firefox or open safe mode. reset firefox does nothing and safe mode just continues to load .

When it is in safe mode the wheel just spins and nothing happens. When reset firefox is selected nothing happens. I have erased firefox and redownloaded it many times and the same thing occurs.

Can you bring up the Profile Manager to create a new profile?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

  • When I open Firefox, even in safe mode, it causes my Windows 7 64-bit to totally crash and I get that blue screen of death =(. This has happened suddenly on Nov 16, 2010. I had been running Firefox on Windows 7 64-bit with no problems previously. Help?

I have had Windows 7 64 bit for the past year and have run Firefox with no problem. It was the most problem free of the three browsers including IE and Chrome.
I have a Vista side where I run my online backup and did so yesterday. Went on Firefox. No Problem.
Today I booted into the Windows 7 side. Seemed to boot up okay. Until I opened Firefox. Suddenly, my whole computer crashed, windows shut down and that bluescreen popped up. I restarted normally. Same thing. I restarted in safe-mode. Couldn't find any problems. Went back to regular mode. Started FF. Boom crash.
Back to safe mode. Did a system restore. Back to regular startup. Didn't help. Attempting to open FF crahed windows.
So back to safe mode. Started Firefox. Crashed the whole computer and same blues screen.
So I uninstalled FF. Reinstalled FF. It still makes Windows crash.
So now I am on IE :P

See below -- the way I asked the question the first time may not be clear. This post was a goof but I can't figure out how to delete it

  • My computer will only boot off it's drive in safe mode

    Short Story...
My computer will only boot in safe mode and in normal mode displays grey apple that turns into a grey cross. Surface scan in techtool pro 4.5.1 passed
Long Story... (all the issues I've had as they are all back to back and most likely cause by what sloved the previous one).
When i first got my macbook i already had a 500gb hdd in my macmini running 10.6 (or 10.6.1 I forget) and as soon as a had the macbook running off this drive it would give me one error for each and every movie file that was visible (in an open folder or on the desktop) saying quick look helper had unexpectedly quit. I tried everything and for some reason ended up changing all the permissions on the computer which royally screwed it up. anyway after repairing permissions in disk utility the error messages stopped but shortly after start up it was giving me a couple of dozen error messages saying something about .kext's (if requested i can supply full text of this error message) so i tried reinstalling the OS and since in 10.6 there is no archive and install (without messing around in terminal) i just ran the snow leopard disc which brought me back to 10.6 then I upgraded to 10.6.2 and restarting a couple of times over a day or so. After a few restarts I found the computer wouldn't start (it chimed, loaded up the apple symbol and loading wheel and then after a few minutes replaced the apple symbol with a crossed circle) I tried running the snow leopard disc again and this time not upgrading but after about 3 restarts the same thing happened. now i can only start up in safe boot mode or off my backup drive which still displays a few dozen of the .kext errors at start up. Sorry about the length of this description I would appreciate absolutely any help or ideas.

  • Accessing menus is very slow unless I'm in safe mode. And I've tried everything I've found on the help pages.

If I go in using safe mode the menus work fine. If I don't the time it takes to get the sub-menu is several minutes. I've tried "disabling the add-ons" and "resetting the controls" but that doesn't affect it. It is still slow if I'm out of safe mode. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. And I've tried deleting the "Program Files" directory it occupies in-between uninstalls and installs, too. I've also tried getting rid of Firefox and the Mozilla Maintenance Service at the same time, too, just in case. Nothing works.

I had this problem for about a year or so. I can't remember how long I had it. I just began using safe mode all the time, so I could still use Thunderbird. I had already tried what Christ1 had recommended, too ("You can try to disable all extensions and then enable one at a time until Thunderbird starts getting slow again.").
Then one day fairly recently the problem just disappeared. I didn't do anything. I'd been upgrading Thunderbird regularly, all during the time I had the problem, too. And I'd already tried all the various solutions that had been offered on the web. It just magically disappeared one day. Oddly, I was kind of expecting that would happen. I'd just wanted it to work a lot sooner.

  • How can I run two instances of Firefox: one in Safe Mode and another in Normal Mode?

I think my question says it all.

You can't simultaneously run a normal instance and a Safe Mode instance using the same profile. So step one is to create a new profile.
    * [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
Right-click the desktop and choose New, then Shortcut. As the location of the item, use the following, substituting the placeholder profile name with the actual profile name you chose earlier.
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p NameOfTheProfile
