E-Business Suite Application Dev using OAF and ADF (White Paper Feb. 2008)

Hi,
In Oracle White Paper entitled "E-Business Suite Application Dev using OAF and ADF (Feb. 2008)" it was mentioned on page 7 :
+"When ADF 11g becomes production, we will publish a revised paper that compares OAF with ADF 11g, and discuss development against E-Business Suite."+
I've had no luck finding a new comparison table for OAF R12 with ADF 11g :(
can anyone help me on this?

We have a 6i client-server Forms & Reports application that we want to web-enable. This is a standalone application that has no integration with the E-Business Suite. We would like to use the E-Business Suite application server forms and reports servers to run this application too.
I had two questions:
1. Are there any documents available that would document best practices for such a scenario?
2. Is it possible to create a standalone report server on the E-Business Suite reports server or is there a way to integrate the standalone application reports with the EBS report server?

Need clarification on Solaris 10 upgrade for E Business suite application

Server details :
(1)Database tier : Sun Solaris 8 - 64 Bit
(2)Application tier ( E Business suite application services ): Sun Solaris 8 - 64 Bit
(3)Application tier ( E Business suite External tier - DMZ configuration ) : Sun Solaris 8 - 64 Bit
(4)10gAS and discoverer : Sun Solaris 8 - 64 Bit
We are planning to upgrade the Database tier (1) and Application tier (2) to Sun solaris 10 and leave the Application tier {
External - DMZ configuration } ( 3) and 10gAS and discoverer ( 4 ) with Sun
solaris 8 .
Please let us know if we will be having issues if we perform the OS upgrade in such a way.

There should be no issues with this upgrade path. Just make sure you relink all binaries after an OS Upgrade to ensure that everything is working as expected.
- Take a backup of the application/database
- Upgrade the OS
- Relink all binaries
- Start up the application/database
- Take another backup once you confirm that everything works properly

Would like to ask about Pros&Cons betwwen Oracle Forms, OAF and ADF

Is there some material about the pros&cons between Oracle Forms, OAF and ADF, from angles like technical architecture, performance, network efficiency, etc...
Asking this becuase EBS cusotmer is familiar with Oracle Forms and OAF, when we talking about ADF to them, it is quite confused especially about OAF and ADF, finding material to elaborate these 3 technology clearly, thanks

Thanks, I check the comparison of OAF and ADF document downloaded from Oracle Support, but it is for ADF10g, I believe ADF11g is much better, and anyone check the comparison table between ADF 10g and OAF R12 would choose OAF.
And, from the document, I saw one line that is very confused, check it out, do not understand what does it mean with "if your application does not need to integrate with EBS... ... you should use ... ... integration with EBS" -_-!
"If your application does not need to integrate with the
E-Business Suite, or doesn't require any of the E-Business Suite-specific
capabilities enumerated above, you should use ADF 10g with SOA based
integration with E-Business Suite."

How to customize events, execute stored procedures using JSF and ADF BC

As a java beginner, I started with developing simple web application using JSF and ADF business component through visual and declarative approach. I need to know how to customize events, execute stored procedures, invoke functions on triggering events associated with rich controls. for eg. how to write customized functions on button click or checkbox click events to achieve business requirement and can be modified whenever required.

By doing extensive read on adoption of ADF , I understand that as of now it is good to stick to tools provided as part of that ERP itself for customization (like OAF for Oracle EBS , Siebel tools for Siebel, etc.,)
Though ADF offers extensive UI (due to JSF), the only other reason for the adoption of ADF could be that it is part of Fusion stack . And may be it would help for easy migration to Fusion tomorrow if we have our custom pages developed in ADF today. By carefully using OAF following bast practices , still we can avoid using ADF.
Please correct me if my understanding is correct.

How to deploy Business components from DEV to QA and PROD

I developed Business components in my development database using JDEVELOPER and would like to port it to QA and then production. Because XML files have all your constraint names in there, which will be different in my QA and Prod., how do I make if work. Should I be playing with my XML files...???

The constraint names are not used at runtime, only at design time. They would be used if you decided to forward-generate the DDL for your tables.

Integration between OAF and ADF

Hi,
We have a requirement where we have to call ADF page as a region in OAF page.
We are able to deploy ADF application on Web logic server and call them as a standalone application in OAF using "Function and Menu".
Also, I understand that ADF and OAF interaction back and forth is not possible. ATG seems to be working on this for handling session management.
However, I need to understand if there is any mechanism by which ADF pages can be embedded in OAF page as a region and work as a normal application in Oracle Ebiz Suite?
It seems that OAF Rich Interface allows embedding ADF pages in OAF.
Appreciate some guidance on this.

Yes, we (ATG) are still working on session management between OA Framework and Oracle ADF, as well as other features of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java. Stay tuned for an announcement on Steven Chan's blog at https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan when that becomes available. My Oracle Support Note 974949.1 will be updated with further information at that time.
Embedding an Oracle ADF region in an OA Framework page requires, at a minimum, that you create an EBS function security function for your ADF page and add a richContainer item to your OA Framework page that calls the function. You may need session management features depending on what you are trying to do with it. We haven't worked out all the nuances yet for more specific guidelines, sorry.

Demonstration of using Spring and ADF together

I have wondered about the potential for combining the ADF Binding Framework and the IDE capabilities around ADF in Oracle 10g JDeveloper with the Spring Framework. I concluded rapidly that the most meaningful way forward would be to implement a Business Service based on DAO interfaces and DAO implementation classes, potentially using either Hibernate or Toplink or as in this case plain JDBC made easy by Spring JDBC Templates, and registering that service as a DataControl with the ADF Binding Framework. Once that DataControl is registered, it cannot be discerned from other POJO based DataControls and it can be used just as easy as in most cases as the ADF BC based Data Controls. That means: rapidly developing web applications, largely through dragging and dropping Data Controls and their components in a WYSIWYG style visual editor becomes a reality.
I have written an article that describes how to set up a simple Spring Business Service - based on POJO and plain JDBC although this could also have been Hibernate or Toplink for example- and register that Business Service as Data Control with ADF Binding Framework. I then continue in a familiar way to create a UIX page that displays data from the Spring Business Service.
I believe this is a useful first step in combining Spring (hot, open source, talk of the town) with ADF (productive, linking and decoupling point for Model vs. View/Controller).

I am not aware of any project like this right now. However, Duncan Mills did develop a data control for Spring that he used for his talk. For some reason I don't know, this data control however never made it to production. However, you should be able to integrate Spring through a POJO data control

I'd like to create an automated rotating schedule of backups using wbadmin and task scheduler, which would backup Bare Metal Recovery; System State; Drive C: and D: to a Network Share in a pattern like this:

I need to use the wbadmin commands within the Task Scheduler and do not know any of the required Syntax to make sure everything goes smoothly, I do not want to do this through the CMD.

I know each backup for the previous corresponding day will be replaced, how do you figure I wont be able to do incremental backups...
Because incremental backup is based on Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) feature and due to Windows Server 2008 R2 limitations (this limitation is resolved in Windows 8) only one version of backed up data can be stored in a shared folder. So the
result is that every time you back up some data on a shared folder, you actually creating a full backup of them.
is it not supported through task scheduler?
The Task Scheduler is only a feature that does the tasks that you have defined for it. Actually it runs the
wbadmin command that runs on an operating system with the mentioned limitation.
I know you can do Incremental backups through Windows Server Backup, but my limitation using that is I cant setup multiple backups.
Yes, you are right. Windows Server Backup feature in Windows Server 2008/2008 R2 has not this functionality (although
ntbackup in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 had this functionality). So, the only workaround to this limitation is through using Task Scheduler feature with wbadmin command. For more information see the following article:

So are you saying that even though I want each backup to go to a different place on the Shared Folder that it will replace the previous backup anyways?
No and because of this I said in my previous post that with some modifications and additions you can do the scenario. For example, you back up to a shared folder with the name of Shared1 on Mondays. You also have been configured the backup feature to back
up data on another shared folder, named Shared2, on Wednesday. When you repeat the backup operation in Shared1, only the backed up data that resides on it will be affected, and the data on Shared2 remains intact.

Then do you know if wbadmin supports incremental backup in Windows 8? As you said the VSS issue is fixed in Win8. However, the wbadmin has less options then in windows server. I tried a bit but it seems it only supports full backup? ps, I use a network share
- will the incremental backup works if I define a ISCCI then? My remote backup PC is also running Win8.

Ii have a release 12.0.6 EBS installation and i wante to use apex to extende my ebs application. one off the requrement is to installe an stand alone IAS to configure mod PLSQL.
My question is :
is it possible to configure mod plsql using the apache installed with discovrer application?
, if it is possible so i have not to install additional IAS.

i have fixed the problem, the LaunchApex.jsp has been compiled succussfuly the problem was with the compillation command

but now when i try to connect to apex from EBS menu this error it telle me that the HTTP 404 - File not found page is not found.
really, I do'nt know why i have followed exactelly the doc apex-ebs-wp-cabot-consulting-169064.pdf but it still give to me this error
