E-Commerce/Shopping Cart

I have a client that would like an e-commerce site for her
business. I've searched various e-commerce web building sites and
have found that the templates used are not sufficient nor
attractive for me or the client.
I like to do a lot of my web building using Dreamweaver 8,
Frontpage, and Publisher. I would prefer to use Dreamweaver 8 and I
have been searching tutorials, manuals, forums, etc. trying to find
an answer.
I'm not the "best" person when it comes to web designing, so
therefore I would prefer an almost Step-by-Step Guide that I can
read. Money is very scarce so going out and purchasing books or
software really isn't an option as well.
Can someone knowledgeable in this PLEASE, PLEASE help. I have
been working on this for a week now. I need an answer ASAP as the
site needs to be built and ready to be uploaded in 3 days.

As time is of the essence, at this point, I would recommend
using a prebuilt
cart .. if there aren't too many products, you can use
something like the
PayPal shopping cart, which is free and there are
instructions on the paypal
site for getting started.
Also see if your host has a shopping cart included .. many
have a simple one
already included with your package.

  • E-Commerce / Shopping Cart Question

My company has outgrown our current shopping cart software, and our hosting company is no longer supporting it, so we're looking into other options.  I’m not too familiar with setting up e-commerce sites, so I was hoping to get some advice/recommendations on new software options.  We do need the software to accomplish the following:
-We sell products to three exclusive customer groups (vets, stores and consumers) so we would need a software that is able to store three separate customer databases.
-We’d also need an option to control entry into two of those databases.  Right now our stores and vets sign up and go into a “pending accounts” site, where we can see all of their information and choose whether to approve or deny their account.  Since we need to make sure we’re only selling to legitimate stores and licensed veterinarians, this control over approval of accounts is something that’s incredibly important to us.
-The software we use now is meant to be used in one store.  Therefore, all of our products are entered in three times, to link in to the correct pricing for each customer group.  The new software needs to be able to allow us to enter in different prices for a product, depending on how a user is signed in (as a store vs. consumer) OR it needs to let us group products into different categories so that they’re easy to find when working in the backend – right now all of our products are in one list and it’s getting unmanageable.
Any advice on where to look and what to get would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks so much!

Ron ~ You're more likely to get help if you supply some details about the "trouble" you're having.

  • What's the best way to integrate third party shopping carts with ATG's (10.6)?

    Hi,
We are using ATG (10.6) for our e-commerce platform and we have many other websites which try to engage the end user to buy our products.
Those other websites are developed using different technologies but we would like to allow the visitor to click a buy button and add things to a local shopping cart. That "generic" Shopping cart will be hosted locally in the website and only when he/she tries to "check out" we will forward them to e-commerce (ATG) main page, but the ATG's shopping cart has to have all the item he/she selected previously on the website.
    How can that be done?
    1) In the best possible way?
    2) In the simplest possible way?
    Regards

    Hi,
    We have seen that. Thanks.
Now, how could we add multiple tiems to ATG's shopping cart before redirecting the user to ATG's home?
    The scenario we see is:
User navigates on a Marketing website, spots items he/she is interested in and add them to the LOCAL shopping cart (without leaving the current website), after adding many items he/she decides to buy these items buy clicking FINISH, at this moment we add the N items to ATG shopping cart (how??) and redirect the user to ATG's home.
    Is that possible?
    Thanks

  • Order forms and shopping carts

I'm fairly new to web design, having set up 3 or 4 basic
sites. A friend asked me to help him set up a website for his small
candy business. It all went fine until I got to the order form. The
only thing I could think of was set up a form in a layout program
that gets imported into dreamweaver and the viewer would have to
print it out, fill it out and fax it back. I know this is totally
lame, but I have no idea how to go about setting up order forms,
shopping carts, secure certificates, etc. Is there a good easy to
follow step by step explanation and tutorial anywhere?

    Hi,
I bought Dreamweaver MX unleashed by Pizzi Ruvalcaba. Very
good step by step instructions on setting up an e-commerce site. I
should add that I had to buy "shopping cart" code to implement it.

  • Shopping cart - prevent same session ref being re-used after an order ?

Whenever a user enters site and new session is created, along with a unique session ref (uuid).
Various housekeeping is performed when the session expires
BUT, how do I prevent a user who's just ordered, from returning to the site and re-using the same session ref ?
What's the best solution ? Can I prematurely expire the session, or perhaps start a new one and attach this user to it ?

Deny a returning paying(!) customer his session? Yours might be the only shop in town doing that.
If your session housekeeping is any good, then the session variables  pertaining to shopping-cart, payment and delivery would have been  cleared or re-initialized. Often, starting a new session means logging in again. There are a number of reasons why that can be undesirable.
I did an e-commerce course for a year, and learned some strange things. It is in fact to your advantage that a returning customer should keep his session, even after ordering.
For example, it is well known that the chances of a returning customer placing a new order is much higher when he is already logged in than when he has to log in afresh. You could test that hypothesis yourself. Psychologists have also found that e-shoppers often return to the shop to gloat at the goodies they've just ordered. You wouldn't want to deny them their gloating session, would you?

  • How to disable shopping cart in multisite

how to disable sharing shopping cart on multi-site, but i need a single shopping cart for a single site.Kindly suggest some points

If every site is supposed to have its own cart, there is no need to create any site groups. A site that lives outside of any group will have its own cart. The only exception to that is if you remove /atg/commerce/ShoppingCartShareableType from the configuration of /atg/multisite/SiteGroupManager.shareableTypes. In that case, all sites will share a single cart component.

  • Shopping cart in portal 8.1

    Folks,
How do I create a shopping cart in WebLogic portal 8.1? Is there any ready made
    template available?
    Thanks
    Johnson

There currently aren't any samples or template JSPs that use commerce in
    8.1.
The 7.0 version of WLP included wlcsDomain and wlcsApp, which was a
commerce sample that had sample shopping cart code. However, most of
that code in encapsulated in 7.0 PipelineComponents, which are
deprecated in 8.1. You can look at the code in there
    (bea/weblogic700/samples/portal/wlcsDomain/beaApps/wlcsApp/src in
examples/wlcs/sampelapp/shoppingcart) for how to manipulate a shopping
cart. Additionally, the wlcs webapp has code and jsps (in wlcsApp/wlcs
and WEB-INF/src under that) you can look at. The APIs haven't changed
    significantly between 7.0 and 8.1.

Is there any readymade JSP template comes with portal 8.1 to use? Or Do I need

You can add the commerce class to your application by
right-mouse-clicking on the appliation in Workshop and choosing
Install|Commerce Services. This will basically give you commerce.jar,
    APP-INF/lib/commerce_util.jar, and replace wps-toolSupport.war with
toolSupport.war. It's best to do this while your server is not running.
Once you have that, you can access the
    com.beasys.commerce.ebusiness.shoppingcart classes. There are javadoc
    for those
    (http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/javadoc/com/beasys/commerce/ebusiness/shoppingcart/package-summary.html).
You can also look at the 7.0 and 4.0 docs for portal, which contain
information about using the commerce classes (although webflow and
pipeline are gone, the base commerce classes haven't significantly changed).

  • Customize BC shopping cart

Hey everybody, I'm learning more and more about the customization of E-commerce. I'm currently trying to customize the shopping cart template in "module templates" (as well as "single item small)". I got everything working the way it should but I don't know where to even start when it comes to making it look good i.e. colors, background colors positioning etc. I hope that some one can help me and thanks to all in advance.

    Basics css will work.

  • Do I need a shopping cart

This is just a general question about a new site I am about to develop.
It is for the sale of one item only (a hardcover book), so I was just wondering if I really need to have a shopping cart on the site or can I get away with just routing the customer to a secure paypal page to do the whole payment process there.
Or if anyone has any other ideas on a good safe way to carry this out, I would love and appreciate the feedback.

    Hi,
I've done a couple of e-commerce training courses for Lynda.com that may be helpful in getting you  on firmer footing with the whole e-commerce topic. The first one is kind of dated, from a technical stand point but it is still quite good on all the facets of e-commerce, so the first half of the course still really holds it's own and couple prove helpful. The second one was released mid last year and is still VERY relevant and will give you a lot of information on the technical side of things.
    Here are the URLs

Lynda.com is a paid subscription site, but they have a free 30 trial offer that should give you plenty of time to look at these and a few other courses if you like.
Hope this helps.  I'll also be more than happy to answer any other e-commerce related questions you may have.

  • What Adobe product do I want to create a site with a shopping cart?

I know XHTML and CSS. A little javascript. But I need a shopping cart on two different sites. What is the best Adobe product for doing that?

Adobe Business Catalyst offers bundled hosting & e-commerce. But you must host your sites on their servers.

If you don't want to change hosts, look for a 3rd party shopping cart.

  • Since the recent Firefox update, our customers can no longer place items selected for purchase into the shopping cart; what is the cause and the fix?

Since Firefox was recently updated, customers who use Firefox as their browser can no longer place items selected at our e-commerce site into their shopping cart. We are not experiencing this problem with customers who use IE as their browser.

I created a brand new blank Captivate 6 file, applied a theme, inserted a few new slides and tried Preview.  It worked!  All four of the Captivate files I used in my previous testing were based on one file which hadn't been touched for two weeks.  Somehow while working in the lastest file, either removing unused items from the Library or killing errors while Publishing, something somewhere got corrupted or removed.  Something that all four files must have pointed to, since as soon as the latest file broke, all of the other files stopped working as well.  Since the original file was inherited, I'm not even sure how to  go about finding the problem.  In my case, it won't be too big of a deal.  I will create a clean template file and rebuild.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Shopping Cart - Help?

I'm new to web design, and self taught, so go easy on me, haha. I have a site up, that sells organic mattresses and I need to add a shopping cart to it so customers can purchase online. I've added a buy now button and I want that to take them to another page where they can customize the bed and then purchase it online. You can look at it if you'd like; www.dremata.com
I have a google checkout account, which comes with a shopping cart widget but it's limited and I need a shopping cart with more options/more customizeable because there are a lot of different options the customer can pick that effect price.
I've been googling shopping carts for 6 hours now. Everything I've found turns out to be an entire online store. Which I'm not looking for, because I've already designed my website and set up the product pages. I'm just looking to add a shopping cart. I can't, for the life of me, find a premade shopping cart that I can just add to my site. At this point, I'm assuming I'm really ignorant on the subject and you can't do that?
I don't know too much about shopping carts, or how they work. So if anyone could help me out, let me know what my options are and the different ways to add a shopping cart, I'd really appreciate it!
    - Thanks

You've made a common newbie mistake of putting the wagon ahead of the horse.  Ideally, you should build your site pages within your shopping cart system.  IOW, the product IDs, descriptions, prices, options, etc... are stored in server-side databases.  Content is dynamically populated to your site pages.  This is the price of doing things on your own without first consulting an expert.  All is not lost though.  Find out which programming languages your server supports (ASP, PHP, ColdFusion...)
Have a look at Cartweaver and Web Assist  They each have e-commerce extensions that can be used with DW.
    Good luck,

  • Need some suggestions or help with shopping cart.

I am looking and searching and searching and looking for a
good e-commerce package I can use with my future sites as well as a
current one I am developing. It is a automotive site with multiple
sizes of parts and accessories, I have opted to use a drop down for
selecting the size but need to figure out how to incorporate that
when I do the shopping cart and etc... I have looked at cartweaver
and cannot afford that right now I am looking for something similar
to it but cheaper in price if not free...

I've used Cartweaver and found it rather good. It's one of
the few that can be licensed so as you can use it on as many sites
as you want. Most only allow you to use a shopping cart on a single
    site.
I've used Cartweaver ColdFusion. They also have a PHP and ASP
version of the software, you'll need to decide what back-end
technology you want to use: ASP, PHP, ColdFusion. and buy that one.
I would check with your hosting company and see what back-end
    technology they offer you.
