E:\ Drive (CDROM) not shown in explorer - also won't see media in cd rom

I have a Satellite C655D-S5200.   I have had difficulty getting my cdrom drive to:
1) show up in explorer (it doesn't)
2) read media that is inserted into CD
I know a few things:
I had this problem since one of the latest Updates from Microsoft (which one I don't know).   I have tried all the solutions thorugh Mr. FixIt on Microsoft. I have tried dozens of possible solutions in the Toshiba Community Forums as well as other online tech support forums.
One forum posting I read I noticed the user booted into safe mode and was able to see his e:\ (cdrom drive) under computer in explorer.   He had determined that it had to be a recent update to one of the drivers on his system that was preventing the CDrom driver from working properly.
I tried the same. Booted into Safe Mode and viola! I saw my E:\ drive (CDROM). It also was able read media in the CD.
This helped me rule out the issue was the physical hardware.   But I am still baffled as to what is interferring with the cdrom.sys driver for the TSSTcorp cd rom drive when I load windows 7 normally.
Has any of the tech experts at Toshiba had this problem? If so, maybe its time to update the cdrom.sys driver after finding out what other driver is conflicting with cdrom.sys and preventing the cdrom drive from being seen or able to read or even write media.
Just as an fyi, I just recently purchased recovery cd for my particular serial numbered laptop.   I inserted the first recovery disk into the CDROM drive and followed the instructions. the CDROM was able to see the CDrom drive, read from the CDrom drive and reinstall the factory image to my laptop.
once I completed the recovery, applied all the Microsoft updates, I rebooted and once again the cdrom drive (E:\) from my explorer disappeared and I can't even get Mr. FIxIT to see media in the drive.
Any ideas from either other users or the Toshiba Tech experts?   I am desperate. I have to be able to access my CDrom drive and read and write to it.   but I can't go into safe mode everytime I want to do that (plus not all apps run in safe mode anyway).
PLEASE HELP.... THIS IS the 4th (fourth) week I've been messing around with this issue. I need a solution!!!!!!

IPod Touch drive is not shown !

First, I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x86. Once connected to the PC, my iPod Touch is charging normally and appears in iTunes but iPod Touch drive is not shown !
In the Windows Device Manager, iPod appears in Other devices but the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed and ready to use !!!

Do you have any other peripheral devices attached such as a scanner or other imaging devices? It is possible that there is a conflict between one of them and your iPod. Disable or temporarily remove them and see if your iPod works then. You may have to unplug and replug in the iPod after you disable the other device.

The above issue is seen when we don't have proper FP patchset. after applying a patchset all issues sloved

Cover image is not shown in explorer

Hi guys, I've already got a new lap which runs W7 ultimate (x64) and Adobe Reader X 10.1.3 but the cover image (the first page) of PDF fiels is not shown in Window's Explorer. Any hints?.

If the image isn't displayed, just try a new paint after a while (for example after 1 second).
Another way is to implement the ImageObserver interface who can announce you with the imageUpdate() method when the entire image is loaded:

TS1567 My Ipod Classic appears in my computer when connected to my Windows 8 pc but when itunes starts it no longer appears and is not shown in Itunes also. Itunes appears to disconnect it from pc.

My Ipod Classic appears in My Computer when I connected it to my new Windows 8 pc. When Itunes starts my Ipod is no longer appears in My Computer and is not shown under Devices in Itunes. It appears that Itunes disconnects my Ipod from the pc. My Ipod still sync's up fine with Itunes on my old Windows XP pc.

N95 8GB - drive not shown in explorer

I recently replaced my troublesome N95 with an 8GB version. (nicer screen, less crashing, faster nav :-) )
when I installed the latest version of pc suite v1.6.80.0 it no longer shows the n95 drive in windows explorer. I used to be able to copy files to/from the old version.
Am I missing something?

I don't know about the Nseries PC Suite, but the "regular" PC Suite is v6.85.something and you can get it from: http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite
I use it with my N95 8GB (never tried the Nseries PC Suite versions).

Drives are not visible in explorer

Hi all
Recently i bought G470.
recently i downloaded windows 8 developer view and try to install ofcourse i cant install it ( system hardware not support)
after that i had used windows 7 DVD to repair (boot manager problem)
Presently my problem was after login i cant find the drives in explorer
and i had gone to disk management i found that missing drive are shown in unpartioned free space.
i am afraid i have lot of data in that can you somebody help me in this problem
and my micro SD card slot is also not detecting. do i need any special software for this ???

I supose you need to restore the OEM version of win7 ... can you detail the issue about win8 ?

Windows 8.1 Desktop wallpaper not shown if Explorer is not running

Hi,
I set wallpaper image using registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"Wallpaper"="C:\\Windows\\Web\\Wallpaper\\Windows\\img0.jpg"
Problem is that I need to show wallpaper WITHOUT explorer running.
W7 and W8: If explorer is running, wallpaper is shown correctly.
W8: If I end task "Windows Explorer" via task manager, wallpaper disappear and only blank (dark blue) screen is shown.
W7: If I end task explorer.exe wallpaper is still shown.
Anyone knows how to show a image without explorer running on Windows 8?

After lots of test and research, I still can’t find a solution to meet this requirement.
I tried to use the process monitor to capture the registry and process activity in Windows 8 and Windows 7, but can’t find the resolution.
I think this setting is by design.

The printer works fine when it is connected via the USB cable and the driver listed after "Print Using:" in the add new printer box is called "hp all-in-one 2.2.9". When I try to add the same printer via the Windows network I see it the printer, but when I try to find the driver in the "Print Using:" menu, I don't find it. How can it be there for the USB connection, but not for the network connection? Where do I find it, if it isn't in that driver list?

Print drivers written using the older Mac printer driver model specifically list the type of connections they support. Most of these old style drivers do not support Windows printing. I think that is what you are seeing.

In Disk 0 one of the drive is not showing in Explorer and only have "Delete Volume" option is available in Disk Management.

drive and unable to assign a drive letter to it. I've gone through the MMC for disk management but the only option i get is
Delete Volume or Help. The disk management states that the drive is

there is no drive letter assigned to it so how to run Chkdsk for that 19 GB drive.

External hard drive are not shown

I recently got a new macbook pro, I plugged my external hard drives to the laptop and they don't show up, (they are not in the mac format), but they work perfectly fine with my imac, and my old macbook pro had no problems with it at all, I was wondering what's wrong with it? When the external hard drives are plugged, the lights on the hard drives work.

1. maybe it needs more power.
2. maybe it's already mounted but hidden:
     goto Terminal
     defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
     killall Finder
               to undo that just replace "TRUE" with "FALSE"
          open Finder
          goto Menubar and select Go - Go to folder
          input: "/Volumes"
          see if it's there, if yes, trash it and try again
3. maybe your partiton or hdd it's damaged, try to backup and reinitialize the disk.
4. try a different usb port.

I have an imac running OSX leopard 10.5.4, and a flashing question mark comes up on the screen. I opened disk utility, and in the sidebar my hard drive is not there. I also did the Hardware test supplied with the install CD, and "no problems were found".

note: I have not done the extended hardware test yet.

Can we assumed that the Disk Utility you used was not on your hard disk? If it was on the hard disk you can ignore most of the advice here and we should start again.
I am am a retired Electrical Engineer with many years electronics and IT experience and advise that whilst it is likely that the hard disk has failed and may never work again this may not necessarily be the case.
Do you normally hear or feel the disk running and has this changed?
Have you moved, dropped or hit your Mac while the disk was rotating? - never good for disks.
Even if the disk is not rotating it may not have failed - there could be an imperfect connection, damaged pcb track, a Mac electronics failure such as disk power etc.
The disk could be working mechanically and there could be a break in the data route to or from it etc.
Getting at disks inside some Apple assemblies can be tedious but probably not as bad as you may think - Google for instructions and pictures.
Much may depend upon how important information on a troublesome disk is. Even with a totally dead disk 90% of data can normally be extracted - ocasionally I have been lucky enough to do this at home - a few years back several experts were offering to to this for about 1,000 USD.
Trying the disk in another enclosure was good advice.
You could try gently moving your powered up Mac to see if anything changes.
It is technically possible for a software (unlikely as issue still exists booting from DVD I assume) or firmware issue to cause your symptoms so it might be wise to try every type of reset you can find before going any further. Firmware normally resides within the electronics - it often affects booting and power supplies etc.

if you don't have "enable disk use" or "manually manage music" selected in your summary tab, that's normal.
do you have either "enable disk use" or "manually manage music" selected in your summary tab?
