Can I receive e-mail messages on my Blackberry in Europe even though it is a CDMA phone?

when a computer device send an email it use a service called smtp (Simple_Mail_Transfer_Protocol)
it use a port which one depend on the email provider
when one connect to the internet one use an isp (Internet service provider) in your case it's deviced up between 2
one being whoever provide internet access for the wifi connection you have
any internet connection can block or route ports as the isp see fit
so if your email provider use ports blocked by the wifi networks you connect to while in another country
there is nothing you can do apart from using the mail providers www portal which use port 80 which is open on all
wifi networks which let you browse on the internet
