E-mail is continuously hacked

I have written on this fourm before about a issue I am having with mail.  I currently use yahoo as an e--mail account.  I have heard 2 different stories on the news concerning this issue.
1. There is a security breach with apple computers allowing passwords to be taken from both desktops and ipad computers.  There was no plan to fix this issue according to FOX news.
2. There is a tiny piece of software that is placed unknownly onto a computer.  This software can steal information and even send out messages in your name.
I turn off my internet and computer every night before going to bed.  Most junk e-mail is sent out during the early hours of the morning while I'm still in bed.  Only a few occure late at night when the computer is sitll on.
What I need from you guys is a way to check the computer for any virius, spyware, or anthing that could be causing this issue.  Is there a program that is either free, or inexpensive that I can use to check  my computer for problems?  Any suggestions or tips you can offer in tracking down why my account keeps sending unsolicited mail would be nice as well.
Thanks in advance.

FYI  I have generated a 32 character alpha numeric passcode to prevent getting hacked. I never use e-mail on my ipad, only the desktop.  Although the router is wireless, I am hardwired in.

    Hello,
Try Mail>Preferences>Accounts icon>Account Information tab>Click on the Outgoing SMTP server drop down, choose edit Server list, highlight the old one & click Remove.

If you cannot get mail to quit/force quit, you can always remove power from your Mac.
NOTE: removing power is a bad idea, and can result in data loss, but sometimes it is the only thing left to do.
Press and hold the power button for 5 to 10 seconds, and the Mac will power off.
When you power back on, the Mac should reboot.

I go to Gmail to do my email yes, in my browser, but ya know how sometimes you click on a website to email someone and it pulls up apple mail, and then tons of email dump into apple mail and it frequently causes my computer to lock up and have to shut down w/escape.  I thought it would be  better to take it off if I could

  • Mail in continuous "Synchronizing with Server" (all mail, not just Mail.app)

Since upgrading to 10.9 Mavericks, Mail (Apple) continually syncrhonizes with the servers. I have a plethora of folders stored via iCloud (IMAP). When it gets to the end, there's a short lull but, if I do anything else, the process starts again. (Viewable via Mail's Activity Window (Cmd-Opt-Zero).)
It always synchronizes of course, but it used to be in the blink of an eye, and (seemingly) not each and every folder.
I thought it was a Mail only issue, but I downloaded Airmail from the Mac App Store to give it a whirl, and the problem is the same: it synchronizes with the server continuously. As with Mail, when it gets through with the last folder, there's a pause, and it starts up again.
When it was assumed to just be a Mail.app issue, it was one thing, but now it appears its a universal mail issue. I've done some research, and I know Gmail users are feeling the pain, but I don't have Gmail -- my only account is my mac/me/icloud one.
Some have suggested it's a bug with Mail, but wouldn't my issue with Airmail rule that out? Others have posted that the issue is with Spotlight and how it indexes mail messages for search. (FWIW, I've unchecked "Mail & Messages" in Spotlight but it doesn't seem to have helped the issue.)

I don't know if this is the exact same problem.  I sync my Gmail and my iCloud mail accounts on the Mail program.  Since upgrading to Mavericks, whenever my Mail program is being used, it is constantly notifying me about VIP mail in my mail box -- over and over again, the same mail items. It's annoying, and I assume this pointless activity is also affecting performance at the margins.  How do I shut this off but still get notified when I get NEW mail from VIPs?

  • Blank e-mail trouble continues

I got the newest iOS 4.3.2. in my iPhone 4 and also in iPad 1 and the same blank e-mails trouble continues with the both. Has anybody resolved this problem permanently? I really have tried everything that you can find in the internet, but all these answers gives help only for a short time and then it comes back. Really annoying and I can not understand why Apple can not resolve this problem.

    Hi Sri,
The approvers are getting blank mail because you have ticked on checkbox for Other approvers in Notification configuration in Stage under workflow and no text message is maintained for Next Approver tab.
There are two solutions available for your case:
    1) Remove tick from checkbox against other approvers in notification configuration under tab--Stage, in workflow configuration.  By doing this email will not be triggered to any approvers.
    Better soution will be
    2) You can write the text message as you want to apper under the tab Next Approver in Stage configuration for respective stages under workflow configuration which will then received by approvers instead of the blank mail.
Hope this will resolve your issue.

  • "Slow typing in Mail" issue continues in Lion

The "Slow typing in Mail" issue continues in Lion. Has anyone found a fix yet?

Well, when typing in MAIL, the letters manifest VERY SLOWLY. I am know ACE typist, and it can't keep up with me. I type even a few characters, and wait for several seconds for my textual desires to appear.
This was well discussed under Snow Leopard, I see.
Restarting the App often helps for several minutes, but no more.

  • Mail problems - contacts "hacked"

    Hi,
Forgive my ignorance, however, I have had a brief scan through these pages and several people appear to be having almost the same problem as I am, but not quite.  I have an iphone 4 on iOS5.1, an ipad on iOS5.1.1, and a MacBook Pro, on OSX10.6.8.
This morning, at 0610 hours, GMT, my entire mailing list was sent a forwarded e-mail - junk of course, about bankruptcy, saying "Look here!" - which I did not send, and which does NOT show up in my Sent folder.  However, I keep a bogus email address at the top of my list, so I get MailerDaemon failure messages, if such a thing occurs (a holdover, from when I used Windows).
My problem is, I have not used my MacBook in weeks, using only the iPad and iPhone.  About a month ago, I received a similar e-mail from a family member, who also uses an iPad, which I didn't open but deleted, using my iPad.
Is it possible for any such botnet/Trojan/"virus" to have "infected" or nicked my mailing list, and, if so, how do I get rid of it?  I have an elderly relative, who has an iPad2, and he opened the email (though not the extension), this morning, so he is now in a panic that he is next!
My e-mail account is through BTYahoo, but, as they have accessed EVERY one of my contacts, it appears likely that this has come from within, rather than without.
Can any of you advise or assist?
I have installed the trial of MacScan, this morning, following recommendation on another page here, and am running it as I type.
If anyone can help, I would be most grateful.
    Kind regards,
    Scoots.
PS, I recall now I DID notice that, yesterday afternoon, my iPhone burned its way through around 60% of the battery life, while I was using Kindle, in around 3 to 4 hours.  I put it down to a glitch, or having left apps running in the background...obviously not.

There is a virus out on apple products, tha thit 600,000 macs, iphones, ipads
That is Flashback, which is now considered to be extinct. It only affected Macs (not iOS devices) that had certain older versions of Java installed. The most recent versions of Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 all have protection built-in that will prevent Flashback infections, and Flashback hasn't been seen for some time anyway. See About the Flashback malware.
As to other malware, it's extremely unlikely that your problem is malware-related, especially since only your Facebook account seems to be affected. That means that your Facebook account has been hacked. If changing your Facebook password did not prevent spams from being posted on your Facebook account, that probably means that your Yahoo account has also been hacked. Change ALL your passwords, for all online accounts. Be sure to use good, secure passwords, and don't use the same password for different accounts. This can make remembering passwords difficult, but it makes you significantly more secure. You can use a password manager (like 1Password) to keep track of all the passwords.

  • Since the iOS 8.3 update my iPad keeps asking for my old iTunes password(the account I don't use and can't reset as the e-mail address was hacked) As a result I can't update my apps because it reverts back to asking for my old iTunes password.

Since 8.3 iOS update my iPad keeps asking my old iTunes password for an account I've disabled as my e-mail got hacked. As a result I can't update any of my apps ( I'm missing out on hay day)

Any content is tied to the account that you used to buy/download it - so if you created a new account as opposed to updating the existing one, then you will need to use the old account to download updates to its apps. Can you not update your old account so as to have a new email address on it (e.g. via this page) ?

  • Mac Mail is continuously adjusting the "allow insecure authorization" option on it's own

I've already lost 3 clients due to a lack of timely email response, and I had no idea why Mac Mail was having issues connecting to my email server. I've spoken at length with my web hosting support, and it turns out the options in Mac Mail for "Automatically detect and maintain account settings" and "Allow insecure authentication" are new with Yosemite, in both the incoming and outgoing settings (see below).
Well it turns out the only way for me to be able to even use Mac Mail and have it connect to my email server, I have to have "Automatically..." unchecked, and "Allow insecure..." checked in each and every one of the accounts. I completely hate the idea of having to have anything "insecure" associated with my email, but it's the ONLY way I can get it to function properly, and I don't have the time to integrate everything to another email program at the moment. Not only is this a huge security risk in general, but the program will continuously uncheck the "Allow insecure authentication" option entirely ON IT'S OWN about every 20-30 minutes or so, completely jam up all communication I'm working on, require me to go back through and repeat the same tedious process for each and every one of the accounts, and then ALSO have to totally shut the program down and reopen it for the settings to take effect. In fact, the second of the two images seen above JUST unchecked the "Allow insecure authentication" box between the time it took me to start this post and take the screen shot!!
Something HAS TO BE FIXED with this or it could be a huge issue in a lot of ways. I'm planning on dropping the whole program altogether just as soon as I have the time to properly migrate all of my email setup to another program (which I'm looking forward to less than I would a root canal), but for now I'm just hoping and praying I make it that far without either a major security breach or losing any more clientele. As is, I've lost three clients in just the last week from not being able to correspond on tight deadlines.
Downgrade, in all meanings of the term...

    Workflow and Extended Notificaitons.
I am using extended notifications to send an email to outlook to let the user know his request has been approved.  It is for notification only - no action is required.   I create a workitem with the task description containing the text for the email.  The object.method in the task is SELFITEM.SENDTASKDESCRIPTION.  Everything works except this workitem remains unprocessed after SWN_SWNSELSEN runs and the email is sent.  The WI is waiting for the user to reserve and execute it from the BWP.  I need for the task to be completed and the workflow to continue once the mail is sent.   There must be a way around this problem, but I am not finding it.  I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help.
I tried to use a send mail task - swn_selsen does not find it.
As a temporary fix I plan to use a modeled deadline to complete the task allowing enough time for the swn_selsen sweep to occur.  This does not seem like a solid solution though.  If the batch job is down for whatever reason, the workitem could complete before the mail is sent and that would not be good.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,
    Jeff Gray

My recommendation is to scrap your solution and try again. Use a sendmail step for this purpose instead of creating a fragile solution which depends on the timing and success of various jobs.
If you have problems with the sendmail step, let's try to solve those problems instead.
If you insist on continuing with your current approach, try parallell branches. Then it won't matter if the step is never executed, and the notification will be sent whenever the batch job runs (as long as the branch hasn't been completed). But again, I recommend that you rethink your approach instead.

  • Mail account continues to ask for password

My Mail application, on both my MacBook Pro (with Lion) and Power PC G5 (with Leopard) continues to periodically ask for the password for my Yahoo (set up as IMAP) account.  My three other accounts, including iCloud, operate correctly.  I do have the password saved in the account information under Preferences. What is going on with this account?

Thanks.  I tried the Keychange update with no success.
The problem is happening on both Macs, so it likely isn't a keychain issue on one Mac.
The Mail message I receive is:   "The Yahoo! IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user [XXXXXX]."
I have separatelly tried logging into my Yahoo account, and do get in with no problem.

  • Web server continually hacked

    Hi folks,
we are running our organisation's website on a mac mail server (10.4). However we seem to be getting hacked periodically, where our index.php is either replaced or completely deleted. I have ftp switched off, does anyone have any advice on what to do to secure things a bit.
    Thanks in advance,
    Matthew

does anyone have any advice on what to do to secure things a bit.
Not without knowing more about how it's getting hacked. There just isn't enough information to form an opinion.
For one, you say that FTP is turned off. But what about other protocols? Do you know that the hacker is uploading a new file via a file sharing protocol, or are you running some insecure PHP-based system (such as a discussion board, blog software, etc.) that has known vulnerabilities and allows hackers to replace content via the web.
You should check your access logs. Very often the answer lies right there but it's amazing how many people never think to look.
Then there's the question of whether they're actually exploiting a weakness in the server or whether they're exploiting a weakness in your passwords. Weak passwords are the number one cause of such issues where a hacker with a few minutes and a shell script can try thousands of common username/password combinations and might just get lucky.
You should lock down any admin-level account on your system (whether that's the Open Directory system running the system accounts, or the web application accounts running the PHP software. At the very least change the passwords to something decent.
Without more detail, though, there isn't much more to suggest - all the above is just common sense, really.

  • My apple id password has been changed. Suspicious e-mail...Hacked?

Hello. I am the owner of an apple iPhone 5. I recently tried to update an app, to my dismay, the app store was not recognizing my apple id password. I checked my email to see if there was an email and sure enough, there was an email from apple with the subject reading "How to Reset your Apple id Password" and also "Your Apple id Password has been reset". The disturbing part is that these emails were received at 1:26 AM and 1:27 AM. The other mysterious part is that the emails do not show up in my email on the computer, but they do on my phone. However, the emails were deleated from my mailbox. I know this because i tried to access them on my phone and what I get is "Sorry, there was an error while loading this message." All feeback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    I have the same problem.
This morning received a message that my password has successfully been reset, although I did not reset this.
My password did not work anymore so it has indeed been reset.
So I changed my password again.
I did not change my security questions because I have changed them not long ago.
I also did not receive a mail of 'how to reset your password, so it wasn't hacked through my mail.
But to be sure I did change my mailbox password.
I have an apple device (iPhone 5 and ipad) since November 2012 and it had been hacked already 4 times. 2 times by someone from china who bought an app and bought for 120euros of in-app purchases which luckily got refunded.
I really don't know how they do this. I am the only one who knows the answers to the security questions and there is no way someone could guess these because some answers are fictional. I have also had to change my password a dozen times and there are no kids in my household that can tingle with my devices.
My iPhone and iPad are genuine and not jail-broken.
