E-mail issues after converting to Leopard.

Good morning,
I converted to Leopard on 10-26 and have been noticing a problem ever since. When my Mac Book Pro goes into hibernation, with mail open, when I bring the mac back out of hibernation my mail server is frozen and will not reconnect to the server. This is also true for Safari. I then have to shutdown and restart the system for any internet connections to re-connect. I am on Comcast Cable with a Linksys Wireless server.
Has anyone else found this and if so is it correctable?

Hunter,
This is the OS X Server forum, for troubleshooting and discussing the Server version of Leopard. You will probably be able to find more information regarding workstation and laptop issues with Mail over in the following forum: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223
There are many threads concerning Mail connection there, so you may find more answers in that area. Check it out.

  • Audio issues after converting a media file to WMV

    Hello,
I am using the Adobe Premiere Elements 11 version, on a PC (windows Vista).
An issue often occures after converting a media (video + audio) into Windows Media format : once the conversion is over (after 2 - 3 hours for a 1 hour media file), the audio cannot be heard : we can only hear a very annoying bip all along the video.
This is currently the third time I am trying to make this conversion, each time I have to wait for the end of the conversion (3 hours) to notice that the sound is not correct, so I have to run the conversion once again.
Do you have clues concerning this issue?
    Thanks in advance,
    Thomas

    Thomas Drouault
If you are using Premiere Elements 11 on Windows Vista 32 or 64 bit, it is a 32 bit application running in the 32 bit compatibility mode of the 64 bit system and a 32 bit application running in the 32 bit system. As such, the maximum supported installed RAM is 4.0 GB of which 3.0 GB or less are available. But we will put that aside for now.
What are the properties of your source media and what project preset are you setting? Please give the details of the Publish+Share/Computer/Windows Media preset as well as the settings under the presets Advanced Button/Video and Audio tabs. Of specific interest are the combo of video and audio codecs.
Please confirm that you are saying that the problem does not exist for playback of the rendered Timeline in the Edit Mode Monitor prior to the Windows Media export.
    Thanks.

  • Duplicate mail accounts after converting to icloud from mobile me

Anyone else having problems with their iPhone 4s after converting from mobile me to iCloud?
I did the conversion and everythign works, except I cannot get my old mobile me mail account to go away on my iPhone.
I've deleted it from the accounts section of settings, but I still have an old mobile me mailbox that is showing the exact same thing as my iCloud mailbox.
It's like a mirror mail account that won't go away!
I just did a complete factory reset and updated to iOS 5, but it's still showing up.

Many thanks for the suggestion, I copied the messages in the iCloud mailboxes to new boxes "On My Mac".
As suggested here I then unchecked the "Mail and Notes" item in the iCloud pane in System Prefs on the iMac, iCloud then disappeared from my mailboxes. I then unchecked the "Enable this Account' box in Mail Prefs for the Mobiel Me a/c.
After checking the "Mail and Notes" item in the iCloud pane in System Prefs the iCloud boxes reappeared in Mail. I then deleted the Mobile Me a/c in Mail.
Seems a bit of a rigmarole! but it worked!

  • Issues after returning from Leopard to Tiger, icons and iworld apps!

    Hi
After headaches with Leopard i decided enough is enough and returned to Tiger to finish producing a music project.
I did erased teh drive 7 times pass, re installed Tiger and now it does hting i never seen before.
After several hours te icons get all fuzzy, some times i see the last application in the side bar as the icons for music, photos etc, even the drives look like iTunes or whatever app i last used.
Side bar also does not show hard drives at times yet they are on the desk top.
at some point its all nothing but the desktop, applications folders etc, not hard drives at all.
    please advise anyone.

From your cell it is very expensive when you wait 25 minutes, i think all 902 are charge by the minute.,
The irony of Spain is that stores now use a 902 number to charge if you ask whats in sock as well! while the average person makes 1000€ and the costs of eveyrthing electronic is not converted from Dollars!
a $1500 mac a is 1500€ which really is 2000€, no tax breaks from shipping to another state, there are no other states but countries!

  • Keyboard issues after upgrading to Leopard

Seems there's been quite a bit of discussion about this topic already but it's been confined to laptops and I haven't seen a solution yet. I'm seeing the same problems on a desktop computer using either a wireless or USB keyboard.
After upgrading to Leopard, my keyboard would occasionally stop responding to keystrokes. I have seen this happen on both an Apple USB keyboard and my Logitech wireless keyboard. With either keyboard, the letter and number keys would stop responding but keys like the CapsLock and Delete keys would still work. I have seen this happen when using Mac Office 2004 (Excel and Word) and Safari. With Excel, when the keyboard stops responding, if I click on a different cell, the keyboard comes back. I did update to 10.5.2 and I do have the latest version of the Logitech software but the problems still persist.
Strangely, I have only seen this happen on my MacPro but NOT my MacBook. There is a difference on how each machine was upgraded to Leopard though. On my MacBook, I did a clean install of Leopard on a new hard drive and then migrated my docs and apps from the old drive. On my Mac Pro, I did an upgrade installation over Tiger. Fortunately, I cloned my hard drive prior to installing Leopard so going back is an option and so is doing a clean install followed by a migration which is what I did on my MacBook.
Is there a fix for the keyboard problems? Am I going to have to downgrade back to Tiger?

Thanks for posting this. I thought I was alone in the universe. I have the problem with my mini, which came with Leopard installed. The USB keyboard will stop working in Word or Entourage ('04) and I have to close and reopen the document to get the keyboard going again. Thankfully, my mouse still works when this happens, so I can use it to close and save.
It seems to sometimes be triggered when I switch between applications, but I haven't been able to replicate it consistently. It is particularly bad when using find in Word. The find window will go dead and I have to close it and reopen it to do another search. (Though interestingly, I don't have to close the Word doc.)
    It's irritating.

  • Apple Mail Issues After 10.10.2 Security Update

I've had outgoing mail issues in Apple Mail in Yosemite on my macbook pro consistently since the Yosemite update. I've tried multiple recommended fixes including deleting and resetting all accounts with the latest instruction from bluehost. Over the last several months, some "fixes" had seemed to work for a while, and then the problem would resurface. The "on the fly" fix is always to quit mail, cycle my wifi off and on, and then reopen mail, at which point, the hung-up emails all send and things work fine for some period of hours until the problem comes back.
Interestingly, the problem seemed to finally disappear on its own a couple of months ago! No problems for that period of time! UNTIL I updated my macbook pro with the latest Yosemite security update a couple of days ago. Now the problem is back with a vengeance!
    Any help would be appreciated!

I have tried to quit mail and turn wifi on and off with no results whatsoever. This is really frustrating, I can't work!

  • Weird outgoing mail issues after snow leopard upgrade

After upgrading to snow leopard a couple of weeks ago (then immediately to 10.6.5), I have been having trouble sending mail from my work machine on one account. After reading these forums and trying several solutions (listed below), the thing which seemed to work for me was deleting the outgoing mail server entry in the preferences pane and re-entering the information. However, this solution does not always work for me, and is only temporary; after some amount of time (variable? on the order of minutes?) the problem recurs.
If I open connection doctor the server in question displays a "Connecting to server..." message for a long time (minutes) and then "Could not connect to this SMTP server. Check your network connection and that you...". I get this behavior even just after resetting the smtp server, while I am successfully sending test emails.
As with others here, the same account works fine on other machines.
Things I have tried, on my own or based on advice read in the forums:
    1) specifying the port for the server in advanced settings
    2) Deleting and re-adding both the smtp server and the imap account
    3) Setting mobileme to manual sync
    4) "cd /var/log;touch mail.log;sudo chown root:admin mail.log; sudo chgrp 644 mail.log" (which doesn't produce any logs for me).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I for got to add
    5) repair permissions in disk utility
    6) reboot

  • Mail issues after leopard upgrade.

I upgraded my dual processor G5 tower to Leopard and have been having problems with mail since then.
    1. Periodically mail simply fails. The window disappears and then I get an error message that Mail has unexpectedly quit, ignore or restart.
    2. When mail checks messages, the spinning wheel icon next to each box is very choppy or stops completely. Sometimes checking mail takes a long time.
Anyone else seen these issues post upgrade? Is there a fix for it?
    Thanks

  • Mail broken after upgrade to Leopard

After upgrading my G5 from 10.4 to Leopard, everything works fine except Apple Mail is completely broken. All of my folders were transferred, but they are empty and can not be rebuilt. My old folders are intact and located in the User/Library/Mail folder. All of my accounts (2) transferred correctly, but I can not send or receive mail. Most of the menu items are grayed out, and the application will not quit–except by using force quit. Connection Doctor shows all servers as green. I have completely run out of ideas.

Had the same problem. There is an apple support note with another simple solution: TS2537.
    Resolution
    1) Force quit Mail if necessary: From the Apple menu, choose Force Quit, select Mail in the Force Quit window's list of applications, then click "Force Quit".
    2) If the issue persists after relaunching Mail, follow these steps while Mail is not running:
    3) From the Finder's Go menu choose Go to Folder. Go to this location (type or paste the following, then click Go): ~/Library/Mail
    4) Move the items named "MessageRules.plist" and "MessageRules.plist.backup" to another location, such as your desktop.
    5) Open Mail. Note: At this point you can either set your Junk Mail settings and re-create your Mail rules manually in Mail preferences, or follow the next two steps (if you re-create rules and Junk settings, do not perform the following steps).
    6 ) Quit Mail.
    7) Place the items named "MessageRules.plist" and "MessageRules.plist.backup" back in the ~/Library/Mail folder (replace any copies that were added to ~/Library/Mail when you opened Mail).
    Second issue
I had another problem in addition. My mail came back up by using the individual remove commands listed above, but they buttons in my new mail application still reflected the old 2.x layout and not the new mail 3.x layout. Only clearing all the settings by running
    defaults remove com.apple.mail
    solved the issue for me.
    Thanks everyone for their help!!
in a terminal window cleared everything. Now the buttons are in the right spot.

  • E-mail issue after using Desktop Manager

I am a new BB user (Curve 8530). So I am confused with this issue. Couple of days back I connected phone to my laptop and used desktop manager (ver 5.0.0.11). I just wanted to explore the features of DM. After I disconnected from laptop, the company account emails stopped coming to the handheld nor I could send any from the company mail-id from the phone. I have configured gmail and hotmail on the BB. These were operational perfectly. Only the official mail-id was not getting synched. And I started getting mails with etp.data files in my outlook. The company BB admin guys resolved the issue. So everything was fine. But no one could tell what was wrong. So today I again connected to the phone to DM cause I wanted to move contact from outlook to phone. Now again, i have the same issue. No official emails on my phone. I am sure the admin guys will again solve the issue. But I need to know why is this happening, else i won't be able to use DM at all. can some one explain as to why this could happening. should i check/change any setting on phone or DM.

I am not sure this could help, but when you first intalled DM, did you onfigure it for Enterprise Use? Are you running 5.0.1 or 6.0? In the 5.0.1 version, you had to set it up for BES use when first installing the software.
Also, validate with IT the email and other security policies they have in place for BES users...
I know I am providing more questions than solutions, but hopefully they will steer you in the right way...

  • Mail issues after Time machine restore.

After making some changes as suggested by BT for their move to BT mail I had issues with mail settings. Maybe inadvisable I decided to restore a few days prior and use Time Machine with a hope to restore back.
Unfortunately when it opened mail an upgrade started which them didnt complete and wiped all my mails. Any idea what went wrong and how to restore back the historic mails I need.

looks like others are having the similar issue but not the solution for me so far

  • Mail Crashes After Upgrade to Leopard

After upgrading from Tiger to Leopard I have found that Mail crashes every time I start up. For a start I need to select New Viewer Window to even see the application. When I do, I can see my old message folders but there is no content in them and although all of the account settings are correct, it won't download email. Then it won't let me quit unless I force quit. The problem persists after restarting.
I do have my mail backed up but Mail isn't working at all.
    Please help!

Try this, make sure Mail is quit first of all.
    1. Go into your users library (Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library).
    2. In here you should have a folder called Mail, drag this folder to your desktop.
    3. Now open mail, it will give you a window saying you have opened mail for the first time. DO NOT click continue (yet), leave this window open for now in the background.
    4. Go back to the users Library Folder (Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library) where you just dragged the Mail folder from. It should now have created a new mail folder. Rename this NEW mail folder something like 'mailold'.
    5. Once the new Mail folder has been renamed drag the Mail folder which is on the desktop (the one moved in step 2) back into the user Library folder. Now click continue on the Mail application window (step 3) and hopefully it will re-import as it was before.
I would backup your Users folder before you attempt any of the above steps just in case.

  • Mail problems after upgrading to Leopard 10.5.6

To day I upgraded my daughter's MacBook to Leopard 10.5.6 (from about 10.3 ?)
During the install the only problem was at the very end, the configuration wizard failed to make connection with the internet because Airport had lost the password for my wireless router. Once this had been reinserted we had instant internet connection, but by then I had closed the wizard.
Everything else went well except for Mail, the most important application!
When you click on Mail in the docking area it appears in the bar at the top of the screen but no window opens. To get one open we had to click on file> new viewer window. But this window was blank. Clicking on get new mail did nothing. No emails of any kind were visible. Checking the account details showed that they had transferred correctly, and the diagnostic window showed that it was connecting to the server and logging into the IMAP mail account OK.
Rebooting the Mac did not help.
The Mail program has to be forced to shut down, it won't exit gracefully.
I could not get it to send a message either, click "send" and it just sat there spinning its wheels.
At no point did we get any error messages.
We took a backup of the entire system to an external USB drive before the upgrade and all the files associated with Mail appear to be in the same place as before. There still seem to be hundreds of emails on file, we just can't see them. Clicking on one of there email files does nothing.
Is this a known problem? Is there some new feature of Mail we are not using? Has Mail failed to upgrade correctly? Any ideas how to fix this?
I've just found a note on theappleblog.com that suggests that Mailbox > Rebuild will solve this problem, but on this machine "Rebuild" is greyed out.

    Hi,
Please note that this upgrade related problem would very likely be what has been covered by the support document at the link below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2537
If you also find any files named to include MessageSorting (which would mean you once have upgraded from a version of OSX earlier than 10.4, which is clearly the case for you), remove those, also, but never restore those.
Often this is all that needs to be done, but you might then need to force an overall reindexing via the removal of the Envelope Index. Note the special instructions when forcing the reindexing of IMAP or Exchange accounts in the following:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/14019.html
This will force the reindexing of all the POP mailboxes and all On My Mac mailboxes. With regard to any IMAP accounts if you have any, the practical result of this action of removing the account folder, is that with the IMAP account still set up in the Preferences, Mail will connect to the IMAP server and create a new account folder, and while doing so will index the messages in the mailbox folders of the IMAP accounts on the server.
    Keep me posted.

  • Mac Mail issues after latest Security Update

After installing the latest update my Mail is acting very strange. If I open my Mail app it spins like it is retrieving mail but never gets anything and eventually acts like I am disconnected from the internet, which I am definitely not. In addition when Mail is open my Safari suddenly acts like it is disconnected from the internet, which it is not because if I close Mail and refresh the screen in Safari everything is fine and I can surf anywhere as expected, but as soon as I open Mail again Mail will just sit and spin and Safari goes back to acting like it has no connection.
Anyone else have this happening? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

It looks like either something was amiss in your system and installing the update just made things worse, or you didn't install it properly. You should start by verifying/reparing your disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Read the following article for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:

  • Login "Loop" issue after upgrading to Leopard from Tiger-iBook G4

    Hi Guys,
I've the same login "loop" issue as described in *Apple KB article #306965* only on an iBook G4, unfortunately the solution offered in the KB article does not help.
There is one slight variant being that the user desktop appears for a second or two after the blue screen following login before it returns (loops) to the login window. It happens on all (2) user accounts.
The interesting thing is it doesn't occur on either account when booting in 'safe mode'.
Apart from deleting these accounts and saving/transferring the data are there any other ideas, suggestions or solutions?
    Regards,
    BB

Did a clean install, cloned the HD with SuperDuper and then used Mig. Asst. to restore data back to the original HD. All now OK.
A & I was done in the initial upgrade from Tiger.
    Cheers,
    BB
