E-mail now back

Hello, I had posted in another thread that I was having trouble accessing my e-mails via web access. Just tried going into e-mail again, and it is back up and running. I am able to get into my acct. and get my e-mails, they started coming in at 1:45PM.

I have seen a couple of reports now but have not observed it in any of my yahoo groups.
Could you please forward as an attachment [message menu (ALt+M) > forward >as attachment] a mail from such a list so I can examine the headers. Email unicorn dot consulting at gmail dot com

I have two computers one IMac 10.5.8 one MacBookPro 10.6.8.  Updated the MacBookPro 10.6.8 and now my mail has disappeared on that computer - do I sync account to get all my mail content back onto the MacBookPro?

You can do it. This article from Macworld will be helpful to you:

    I recommend the "brute-force" method.
Just make sure you have your data backed up properly!

  • Where did my file directory go?  I thought my mail was backed up in my .me account and now that my computer was stolen and I need to restore my emails all I can find are the ones in my inbox

I thought my mail was backed up in my .me account but when my computer was stolen and I went to restore my email in my new one, all I had were emails in the inbox.  Is there any way I can retrieve the saved file directory?  I did not back up the mail because that was being done by the .me account (I thought)

If her data was not backed up or synced to something, it's gone. Sorry.

If you cannot get mail to quit/force quit, you can always remove power from your Mac.
NOTE: removing power is a bad idea, and can result in data loss, but sometimes it is the only thing left to do.
Press and hold the power button for 5 to 10 seconds, and the Mac will power off.
When you power back on, the Mac should reboot.

  • I really messed up Mail, now how do I fix it?

    (Please pardon the long explanation)
    Where I was:
    PowerMac G4, running OSX 10.3.9, Mail 1.3.11
    All working well.
Burned a back-up DVD of my Mail Library and preference files.
    Where I went:
    MacPro G5, running OSX 10.5.8, Mail 3.6
    How I got there:
Started the brand new G5, ran through multiple updates, installed files from DVDs burned off the G4. From the back-up DVD, dragged the contents of the Mail Library folder and dropped them into the G5 folder Mail user's library. When a dialog box appeared, asking if I wanted to replace identically named folders, I clicked 'yes'. Dragged and dropped the preference files in the same manner. Internet access through Airport, and Safari work just fine, happily.
    What happened:
When I first opened Mail, a dialog box said it needed to input files from previous Mail or something, after about two minutes, it opened, showing the mailboxes from the previous Mail in the G4 (Yeah!). Within twenty seconds, an alert requesting the mail server password appeared, and ten seconds later, Mail crashed.
    Where I am now:
When I open Mail now, it opens showing no previous mailbox folders, then quickly the dialog box asking for a password appears, and seconds after, Mail crashes.
    What I think happened:
I most likely messed up by mixing old files into the new system. Looking at the Mail folder now, I have no idea what is corrupted and what is good. There are some duplicates by name. Deleting some of them hasn't helped.
    What I want to do:
Re-install a new Mail system, get it working, than input all my old mail from the G4 in some fashion.
I would like to have all my email from the last five years on the new system.
Questions: How can I fix the mess I have now? How can I get a fresh Mail system, and then transfer the previous emails from the G4?
    Thank you sincerely, Isshi.

    1) Can I import my previous signatures by dragging and dropping in the Signatures.plist file, or do I have to re-write all the old ones? The file in the new Mail is named SignaturesByAccount.plist so it's named differently.
    2) Can I import the previous address book somehow?
    3) How can I import the filter preferences?
    4) Do I really have to re-construct all the mail mailboxes in the new system (now they are nestled in the 'import' mailbox)?
Despite my earlier suggestion I'm not an expert in mail importing, so others will have to contribute their ideas on some of your questions. Here's what I can tell you regarding your first two questions:
    1) I'd avoid trying to use that Signatures.plist file. I agree that it seems to be organized differently from the earlier version.
    2) Address Book can import an "Address Book Archive". I'd go back to your 10.3.9 system (if you still have it) and see if you can create such a thing.

  • Why does "remove attachments" in Mail now remove entire e-mail?

This is just one of numerous problems with Lion after installing it on MacBook Pro.  Every time I choose "remove attachments" in Mail, it deletes the entire e-mail and I can't bring it back.  Additionally:
    1.     I-Cal entries take forever (delayed entry) and assume I have an all-day event so I now have to enter the event and then open and edit it - additional steps.
    2.     Airport (Wi-Fi) now shuts off without warning and cannot, under any circumstances, be restarted from any of the several screens and buttons that supposedly offer that option.  Therefore, when I switch from Wi-Fi to Ethernet and then back, I have to do a restart.
    3.     The Address Book now has a stylistic but non-functional interface that requires several additional steps to look at anything and there is no longer an option in Mail to "Open in Address Book" without first opening the v-card, once again complicating my life.
    4.     The removal of arows on scroll bars means that I can no longer gradually look at a large file line by line but, rather, have to use the trackpad (which is also jumpy) try to focus in on the area I want by trila and error.  I hate the trackpad for these reasons and now that I have lost the arrows, I have essentially the same problem with the mouse - very cumbersome for anyone doing production type work, rather than just playing.
    5.     My Carbonite no longer works and I see there are compatibility issues with all kinds of other software.  Worse some of my favorite old programs (e.g. Fetch) no longer work in Lion.
    6.     The conversation function in Mail now groups things I don't want grouped (e.g., totally unconnected e-mails with the same words in the subject).  I had to turn that off for this reason.
Overall, Lion is a huge disappointment.  It's all bells and whistles with actual losses in functionality for basic work - style over substance.  This is the same thing I've seen happen with Microsoft Excel as basic issues that needed addressing have been ignored while all sorts of pretty stuff that is pretty much useless has been added.
Even more frustrating is the message I got from Apple Support, which was to re-nstall Lion.  That took 6 hours and resulted in not one correction of any of these issues.  What has Apple done?  This OS was not ready for primetime.

The "feature" I experience is that the message disappears, just as shown in Herbert's video (good work), and that it comes back after a quick mailbox switch. It has nothing to do with message sorting or anything. All my Mail settings are the same as in Mail 4.x, and everything worked fine there. Must be a bug in Mail 5. (Yes, I have reported it.)
The "explanation" that Mail creates a copy without the attachment, instead of keeping the old message without the attachment, doesn't really solve the problem. (Sorry for my extensive use of smileys, it's not my style but sometimes convenient.) The copy should come up without the mailbox switch either way.
    Edit: spelling.

  • Safari and mail now won't launch

    Hello
I have done something very silly. I run 10.3.9 and downloaded and installed Safari 3 not realising it wasn't compatible. It was allowed to install indicating the install was successful. However Safari and mail now won't launch. Have I lost the apps and is there anything I can do to get them back, particularly mail?

    Hi Again Christine

  • After adding SPF records for Hybrid Development some external mails bounced back with error SPF Unauthorized mail is prohibited.

Added v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all and the txt token for the Exchange 2013 hybrid configuration, now some mails bounced back with the error "SPF Unauthorized mail is prohibited". What could be the cause? Should I customized
the SPF record but it is not mentioned in the procedures for Hybrid configuration to do that.

  • Had to reset my Mail now I can't see old messages anymore.  How do I retrieve them from my files?

My Mail suddenly stopped downloading mail from my sbcglobal (yahoo) account.  I followed the suggestions found in another thread here.  Essentially I copied the Library/Mail folder to my desktop, removed the plist file to my desktop, then reset my account.  Mail now downloads from the server but I cannot retrieve the messages that were already in my inbox before I followed this process.  Can anyone tell me how to get them?

You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it.
If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
(For info you've posted in the Using iPad forum.)

  • My mail now says I have thousands (24,931!) of messages in my inbox

I let my inbox creep up towards ~2,000 over 8 years (I know not good) then one day the system went crazy and now says there are 24, 931?? I am not sure how many are actually there! Also, possibly related, when I send a single email, the system says something in the order of sending 30 of 30 outgoing messages! My computer has become very slow!
    Late 2012 iMac
    running OS X 10.9.5
processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Please help!

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Cannot get mail now on iphone4

Why can I not get mail now on my iPhone ever  since  I downloaded mountain lion on my macbookpro?. It says "username or password incorrect"
I have re entered the data , no change.

This is not a known problem. What you might want to do is delete that account from your iPhone. Resynch your phone to get the account back on, rather than entering it manually.

    Hello,
I would recommend clearing your Service Book database on your BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and click on Backup and Restore, connect your BlackBerry smartphone to the PC and click on Backup to create a backup. Now click on the Advanced button and scroll to the Service Book database on the right hand side and click clear. Now disconnect your BlackBerry smartphone and remove the battery to restart it.
You will now need to log in to the BlackBerry Internet Service Website for your carrier to resend your service books.

  • Okay so I set up my Time Capsule already and is now backing up 2 of my iMacs. Works great. What I want to know is how to use the TC to directly store files? I want to do this to delete some files but still have them on the TC for future reference..

Okay so I set up my Time Capsule already and is now backing up 2 of my iMacs. Works great. What I want to know is how to use the TC to directly store files? I want to do this to delete some files on iMac 20inch but still have them on the TC for future reference..eg some movies on iTunes. I want to directly save them on the drive so I can delete them from iTunes and gain some storage. (Ps on iMac 20 inch (it's almost full - 320 GB) when I enter time machine, a tab comes up on finder which reads "Time Machine backups" it's able to be ejected like a disc or a connected device. On the iMac 20 inch, I dragged some files onto there as if using it like a hard drive. Is this the correct method? Then I went to my 27inch iMac and saw the "Time Machine Backups" hoping to see the files I dragged from the 20inch iMac. But the files were not there except a folder that said "Backups.backupdb". Can someone help me?

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things.  By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files.  I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule.  The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac.  That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.
