E-Mail on iPhone problems

E-Mail on the iPhone is useless! Setting up the POP account was a breeze. I can now get E-mail to show up in my iPhone inbox. The problem, “This message has not been downloaded from server.” Next message, “Cannot Get Mail. The user name of password for the “pop.XXX.com” is incorrect.” Good, now we’re getting somewhere. I have modified, re-entered, and changed the login info several time, only to see these messages again! I also have received a message that says, “This message has no content.” Pair these errors with those seen by others in this forum and why even have an e-mail app!? They have made it so easy that they have taken out all the settings that could be useful for making the app work.
And how do I get iTunes to actually sync my e-mail with my phone?? With my Treo I was able to sync all of my mail in my PC inbox. This is useful for reference and meetings. The iPhone only displays and syncs new messages. And, see above, I can’t send myself the messages again so that I have them in the iPhone!
I am so frustrated! OK, so now someone tell me how stupid I am and all I have to do is…is…

ePhone,
I would like to apologize that your feel frustrated, and try to explain what I believe is happening in your situation.
The limitation you are running into is because of two things. The POP3 server you are accessing is configured to only allow 1 connection per account at a time. That is why you are being prompted for your password. Not all POP3 servers are configured this way.
One way to look at a POP3 server is similiar to a PO Box. If both clients try to grab your mail at the same time, sometimes things get stuck. Some POP3 servers go into a "pop lock" or "pop.lock" for that account when this happens, others require reauthentication. By requiring the password again it knows which one you are actually checking "live".
As for the "This message has no content" or "This message has not been downloaded yet", it is because your computer is removing the messages from the server when it downloads them. This is a setting you can adjust on most mail programs on your computer.
The iPhone downloads them as needed, and normally just pulls a list of messages from the server first. If they are removed by your computer before the iPhone can get them, the iPhone can't download them. Going back to the PO Box analogy, your computer is removing the mail from the PO Box. The iPhone gets a list of the email, and then brings you the ones you go to read. If your computer shows up and removes the mail in the interim, the iPhone can't get the email.
If you want truly synchronized mail on multiple devices you may want to consider an account that supports IMAP. While this article is specific to .Mac, it does a good job of explaining the differences between POP and IMAP mail protocols:

Hope this helps,

  • Yahoo Mail on iphone problem

I do have yahoo mail on my iphone for a while and it was working perfect.
    Few days ago I got:
Cannot Get Mail The user name or password for "[email protected]" is incorrect.
I do not have any problem when I login from my PC with same User name and password.
When I try to set up my email from I phone again. Here is what I got:
Cannot Get Mail The user name or password for “imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com” is incorrect.
I can make all my friends’ yahoo mail work on my I phone but only the one mail account used to be working fine does not working now.
    Can someone help me?

I've had Yahoo Mail Plus for over 5 years without any problems (Yahoo Mail "Plus" means you pay $20/yr to get POP mail access using a standard mail clients). But since I got my iPhone 3GS, I've been having frequent problems accessing Yahoo Mail from my Mac Mail client, via web browser, etc.. My iPhone replaced a Treo 700p, and I used to have no problems, even with two Mac Mail clients and the Treo accessing my POP mail every 5 minutes. Now, since my frequent problems started, I've cut way back on the POP access on all my mail clients (which Yahoo Support told me to do), but the problem persists.
QUESTION: Do you guys with problems have the standard (free) Yahoo Mail, or Mail Plus with POP access?
THEORY: When I got my new 3GS, it automatically imported the mail settings from my Mac Mail client. However, instead of keeping my POP settings for Yahoo Mail, it changed the setting to the Push/IMAP for my iPhone. The Push settings would be great for most people, but not so much for people with Mail Plus who access mail with POP settings. The problem is, when an email client accesses POP mail, it tells the IMAP mail client that all email has been read (when it's simply been downloaded). I think Apple should not, by default, import Yahoo Mail settings which are set to POP, and then change the settings to IMAP on the iPhone -- at least ask the user before making this change. Anyway, my uneducated theory is that the simultaneous IMAP and POP access to my Yahoo Mail Plus account screwed something up, and now I keep having problems accessing mail. I've since deleted the default Push Yahoo Mail account from my iPhone, and set it up from scratch as a POP account. But my mail problems persist.
Also note that, a detailed debug message I get sometimes (usually with error code 5, though once with error code 20) always list the same date/time, which is really close to when I got my iPhone, and also when my problems started. In my mind, that supports my theory. I've been waiting for Yahoo Support to address this detailed debug report, but they keep on giving vague responses (basically telling me over and over that my issues are due to accessing my mail too frequently).
Here's the error code details I've received when trying to access my Yahoo Mail via web browser (note the date in line 3):
    Error #5:
    0: ListMessagesFromIds
    1: SOAP-ENV:Server.MailboxOpenFailed.Busy
2: Error opening mailbox: mailbox busy
    3: V2.1.0 B1357.22 06/18/2009 07:28 AM

Hi were you able to resolve yours?
I was very worried losing all my medical stuff on my iPad Air 2, plus i have nothing to use for the next day! So i have to try all the possible things i read on the internet!! And this worked on my part (Thank God, and thank you Google)
    Perform a hard reboot
Hold down the Home button and Power button on your iPhone or iPad and keep holding them until you see the Apple logo. Once you do, you can let go. When your device boots back up, go ahead and check to see if the apps have started re-downloading. If they still appear to be stuck, continue on.

  • Having trouble receiving Yahoo mail on iPhone 6 sending mail is no problem?

Having trouble receiving Yahoo mail on iPhone 6 sending mail is no problem?

Any chance you use two step verification on your Yahoo account? If you've ever had to enter a code that was text messaged to you when you log into your Yahoo account on a new computer, then two step verification is probably on.
If that is the case, you'll have to generate an app specific password in the Yahoo web mail page and enter that as your password on your Apple Device instead of your standard password in Mail Settings.

  • Can't send document attachments from Mail to iPhone

...well I can but not very well.... When using Gmail IMAP to sync everything, document attachments sent from Mac Mail to iPhone mail arrive as a bit of mess.. i.e. not as attachments but as text within the email itself, plus lots of garbled numbers and letters. Strange because if I send the same message from the iPhone back to itself or from webmail-Gmail it works fine. Its also just fine with photos and Pdf's. Help!

    No, sorry. false alarm.
I just received a message, sent by Apple Mail 2.1.2 from OS 10.4.11, through POP, to an email-forwarding address, to my imap-gmail, and received from there (by IMAP) with Mail 2.1.2, too.
Details of what got garbled below, just to say that sending the email not to the forwarding address but directly to [email protected] did not help either.
the email was constructed like so:
    - some text, readable.
    - an attached PDF, space characters in name. this entire pdf was just printed in the email, meaning the postscript code and what have you.
    - some more text, that was still readable
    - an attached image that was probably pasted into the email, the name was "pastedGraphic.png". The image survived.
    - text, readable.
    - another PDF, raw contents printed into email body.
    - a zip file, spaces in name, made with the built-in archive maker of Tiger. Also here, the entire 'source code' of the zip is printed in the body copy.
    - some final bits of text. readable.
On another computer, this email was not routed through a gmail account and was received by POP. not a single problem there. In fact, not ever.
    This is not very cool

  • Mail not showing up in Mac mail and iphone (Sky email UK)

    Hi,
This relates to a post from yesterday which I thought was solved, if only… !
If I check my mail on iphone it doesn't show up later in Mac mail. I have 5 accounts set up. 3 work fine, 2 don't. My Sky email account and a domain account that is set up for forwarding via Sky.
It seems to be a problem with Sky. This other forum suggests putting "recent" into the Mac Mail user name, doesn't help. It also mentions setting up a IMAP Sky account. I have never used IMAP, always POP. If I set up IMAP on phone can I still get POP mail on my Mac?
    http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-email-portal-log/17836-iphone.html#post158522
This other forum suggests unlocking the email account, never heard of that. Sounds dodgy?
    http://customerforum.o2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1285&highlight=sky
Thanks in advance, I've spent hours going through all this!
    Cheers!

I had to make an IMAP account instead of POP. Now SEEMS to work…

  • Sync RSS feeds from Mail to iPhone?

All I want to do is read my RSS articles on my iPhone... as far as I can tell the only way to do it is to completely change how I read RSS articles... and pay for an iPhone app.... Surely OS X using Mail and iPhone OS 3 can achieve this without too much pain? No?
The best way I've seen so far is to have a new application on my computer and NetNewsWire seems to be the only thing I can find where I can sync the same rss articles on both my computer and phone.
Please help... or please give me some good news that iPhone os4 will have native support for rss and osx mail. Coz I like Mail's RSS, but it seems a bit pointless now that I can't read them on the move.

Try this, it is on another post but seems to be a work around, no worries though the iphone has limitations but those limitation come with a better product (in total) thank others.
"After about a year of searching and thinking, i clicked my way into the solution.
    1) Subscribe to a feed if you haven't already and make sure they show in inbox.
    2) Go to Mail>Preferences>Rules
    3) Click "Add Rule"
    4) Fill in the description how you like
    5) Leave the any drop down menu alone
    6) Click the "Any Recipient" drop down menu and select "Message Type"
    7) Click the "Mail" drop down menu and select "RSS"
    8) Leave the "Move Message" drop down menu alone
    9) Click the final drop down menu and select the mailbox in the level under "Inbox" for example mine is "MobileMe."
    10) Press Ok and Apply.
So by the end, my rule sounds like this:
" If any of the following conditions are met: Message Type is RSS Article. Perform the following actions: Move Message to mailbox: MoblieMe."
You should see your RSS feeds fly magically out of the RSS mailbox and into your email mailbox, which syncs with your phone.

  • I can only see the welcome to mail screen (iphone 5).  I have set up mail successfully because it shows mail icon with messages.  But I cant get into the mail box!

I can only see the welcome to mail screen (iphone 5).  I have successfully set up the mail because it shows mail icon with messages (104 messages).  But I cant get into the actual mail box to read them.  Pls help!

The received emails should show in two locations:
    1. In the All Inboxes tab of Mail.
    2. The Inbox for each mail account,
If your emails are not showing in these locations try quitting the mail app and then reset your iPhone.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal.
To reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

When I try to open my mail on my iPhone 6, says I've entered wrong password.  Not true.  Opens with no problem with my iPad.

    Hi timmy2g,
It may help to remove the affected account from your iPhone, then readd it.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Tap the affected email account.
    Tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.

  • Since 2.1 I cant use Mail after having checked mail with iPhone

    This is totally weird.
My Mail OS X application is working just fine. So is my iPhone mail app. However,
If I check my mails with iphone (Everything works fine) and then open Mail OS X within the next 3 minutes when I try to check for mail all accounts besides Mobile turn gray and I cannot do anything till after about 3 minutes.

    Update...
If I open mail right after having checked my mail with the bugphone I get the grayed out mail boxes. However, if I go in and toggle SSL on advanced, save the account settings and then toggle back to SSL and then save again then everything is fine.
Looks like this is a bug... Just yet another in the mile long BUT SHORT history of Apple's iPhone 3G.
Spoke with german telekom today. They told me and you can quote me on this:
"Since the 3G iPhone and all it's bugs we dont even try to help out customers but direct them directly to Apple - Free of charge"
Then you wait a minute and then Apple Care appear on the phone but DO NOT represent themselves by "Apple Care Hello" but only state their name... After asking MANY questions the poor guy finally admitted that I was at Apple Care and that Telekom were not able to handle all the problems.
