E-mail 'PUSH'

I am trying to find out how to set my phone so that e-mail automatically pushes through to my handset as soon as it arrives on the server.
I spoke to someone at Apple technical support, no offence to her but she did sound a little clueless! I remember on my iPhone 3G that when e-mail arrived on the server it automatically came through to my phone instantly, the phone would make a noise and vibrate and a number would appear above mail indicating how many emails I had received.
The lady at Apple told me that I can only select between four options - Manually, 15 minutes, 30 minutes or hourly. Bascially, (what she told me) the manual option means e-mail will only be retrieved when I go into the Mail application, and the timed options will obvisouly push my email through to me at the selected intervals.
Is this correct? Or am I mistaken?
If anyone could shed some light on this that would be brilliant.

You're welcome.
You can access a Hotmail account as a POP account with the iPhone's Mail client, and Push access is not supported at the incoming mail server with any POP account.
If an email account does not support Push access, the account can be automatically checked for new messages at the available automatic Fetch intervals (this is Fetch, not Push), and/or manually checked for new messages in between the automatic check for new messages.

Any same case or any solution?

Doses the iPhone has that option?
    Unfortunately, no.

  • There's no mail push function on ios7

I just bought a new iPhone, and I realized that my iPhone does not have mail push function, it only can choose fetch or manually, how can I solve this?

    As already provided:
The type of account you have has to support Push...like an Exchange Account. What type of account, & who is your provider?

  • Lion Server and mail push notifications stop after reboot

Hi, I have a Lion Server mail server setup with push notifications to iOS devices.  Everything works fine until I reboot the server.  At that point none of the iOS devices receive push notifications until I kill their Mail app; once I relaunch it, push notifications start working again to that device until the next reboot.  Has anyone else seen this, and know how to solve it?  Thanks.

You don't believe me but I just start to close the tons of opened in background apps on my iPhone and when I close all apps the mail push start working just great! Checked it several times!

  • Yhoo mail Push Not Working?

    He,
iPhone 3GS OS 3.1, Yhoo mail Push Not Working?
    thanks

I have also been having the Y!Mail push issue. I noticed it several weeks ago. It used to be that I would get the email push almost immediately after Y!Messenger told me that I received an email. I now will receive the email push sometimes 30 minutes later, sometimes 40 minutes, sometimes hours later. And sometimes never, because I opened up the Mail widget and it does the fetch. Here is what I have done so far (I do hard restarts each time I make a change): I deleted my Y mail account on the iPhone and added it back. No workee for me. I turned wi-fi off so that I am on 3G. Nope - no pushes. I turned on all of my secondary mail servers. Still no workee. I removed all my installed apps, thinking one of them might be causing interference, but no difference. I have performed Restores on the iPhone with no change. I contacted Y!Mail Tech Supt. We swapped emails a couple of times; still don't get the email pushes. Last email from them requested that I send some information to an AT&T employee who would be working on this issue. Well, I sent the info but haven't heard back from him. Very frustrating.
So just to see if it was my iPhone or a system problem, I sent a test email to my wife's iPhone 3Gs. I sat with the phone for over an hour and no email push. I asked my brother(iPhone 3G) if he gets his email pushes. He says he has never received an email push from Y!Mail since he got the phone last spring.
So is this an Apple issue? Or Yahoo? Or AT&T? Should I make an appt at the Apple Genius Bar and see if one of their gurus can fix it? Maybe one of the Apple iPhone techs that monitor this forum can chime in.

  • Yahoo Mail push problem with stock email app

It is nice to see that Verizon is offering push services for yahoo mail (and possibly for others as well, I only tried yahoo) on select phones now, the Droid Charge being one of them. If you add a yahoo account in the stock email app, it configures it through "Verizon email gateway server" and the messages will be pushed to the phone just like gmail had been, and you will get your new messages almost instantaneously.
I previously had an htc incredible and that phone did not have that feature. My e-mails were being checked at an interval that I could select, but not pushed.
What this email gateway does is (as I understand it): 1) your phone sends your credentials to the gateway server where they are stored, 2) the server connects to yahoo mail servers with your credentials, and 3) whenever there is a new message, the gateway server retrieves and pushes it to your phone, in other words it pretty much acts as the middle man that has a notification capability. The gateway server only accesses your inbox folder and it only does incoming services. For other things such as sending messages or checking other folders, your phone connects to yahoo mail servers directly. My incredible on the other hand used to connect to yahoo mail servers directly for everything including inbox access and unfortunately those servers do not have the push capability to mobile devices.
I got the Charge over two weeks ago and enjoyed push on yahoo for about ten days. But then suddenly it stopped working. It would no longer update my inbox even when I selected refresh through the menu. If I went into other folders, they would update and I could send emails. However, my inbox would not update. I waited a day, then I went into settings/apps/manage apps and deleted the cache and data of the mail application to fix a possible glitch. (It works on the market app when all of your downloaded apps disappear from the list every once in a while due to a glitch)
I ended up with a blank inbox that couldn't download any of the messages. Then I removed the yahoo account and tried to readd. Now I get the "Fetching mailbox failed, retrying. . ." error and sometimes it retries for up to a half hour (until I manually stop it) or sometimes it says "Unable to connect to server" after a couple of minutes.
Following is a list of things I tried:
    1) Set up a different Yahoo account:
Works without a glitch, push enabled
    2) Try the original email account with wrong password:
Gives a credential error, so password authentication is not the problem
    3) Manual configuration through selecting "Others" rather than "Yahoo Mail" in the add account menu:
Unchecking "Use Verizon email gateway" makes it work, but without push. My phone is able to connect to Yahoo servers directly with the same exact settings
I am pretty sure the problem is with the Verizon gateway server having a glitch with my email account. So someone in charge of that server has to go through the list of accounts set up and either reset or delete mine, so I can set it up again through my phone.
I called Verizon support the other day and finally talked to a level 2 rep after having to do the restart, take battery out and all that nonsense. It took them a while to understand the actual situation. It's not their fault really, my problem is complicated and a level 2 rep simply does not have that kind of knowledge. They tried to connect me to Samsung representatives, which was a waste of time, because there is nothing wrong with the hardware as it works with a different yahoo account with no problems, and it also works when connecting to yahoo directly. After spending two and a half hours on the phone, and after the rep talked to her supervisor and the samsung reps to learn more about the verizon gateway server, she finally told me I was right about the issue, and assured me that they would fix it and call me within two hours.
It has been two days, I haven't heard a thing.
What frustrates me is that there wasn't a single person there who could even grasp what could be causing the issue. They had never heard about the email gateway, I had to explain to them. I am not mad that the level 2 rep or her supervisor didn't know, but I am pretty **bleep** that they could not put me in touch with a person who did.
I know there is at least one person at Verizon who manages the gateway server, but the question is how can anyone contact him???
Verizon keeps offering these new services that are really cool for the most part, but their support system is very disconnected from their engineers/technical staff. The customer service is unable to fix problems other than billing issues, and their answer for everything else is to "take the battery out and restart the phone".
For now, I set up my account manually, without the Verizon email gateway, so I don't have "push" working. It's a shame because it is such an easy thing to fix only if I could get in touch with the right person.

    UPDATE:
After waiting for about ten days, I tried setting up my e-mail the regular way (by selecting yahoo mail) again yesterday. To my surprise, it went through without a glitch. I guess the cache of the gateway server must have been reset.
I have been enjoying push for yahoo mail for the last 24 hours again. But I just noticed now, that the problems might be starting again. There are recent e-mails that don't show up on my phone, but do through yahoo's web mail page. When I select "refresh" through the menu on the phone, I see the circle in the top corner spinning for as long as I wait, but the e-mails don't get downloaded. That is exactly how my problems had started in the first place. I will give it the benefit of the doubt and wait and hope that it fixes itself.
There might be a compatibility problem with yahoo servers and the verizon email gateway because I have two gmail accounts set up with the stock e-mail the same way, both using verizon's gateway server for push, and they have both been working with no problems for almost a month. (Even though sometimes the "push" is delayed by up to 5-10 min, most of the time it is within a couple of minutes and that's fine, I'm not that picky) And when I do "refresh", ti only takes a few seconds to complete the request.
And I still haven't heard anything from Verizon.

  • Mail Push Not Working:  Keeping Work and Personal Separate but together!

My understanding (and a big reason I dropped by Blackberry) of Mobile Me was that if I READ an E-mail on iPhone and then deleted it, it would delete it from my iMac at home (or MacBook for work). This does not seem to work? I know there are some issues still with MobileMe so I am trying to be patient.
Do I not have my synche preferences set up right? I want to keep my work (MacBook) mail and contacts separate from my personal (iMac) mail and contacts while receiving both on my iPhone. I want the calenders to merge. Is this possible? How do I set up my preferences on each unit to get this work?
I would imagine there are others out there like me (anyone? anyone?) so hopefully this will be something someone can answer. Thanks!

Having the same problem with yahoo mail not pushing.
I tried endangeredpeople's solution but it didn't work for me.
Has anybody had success with this solution?

  • Mail pushes, Contacts & Calendars disappeared

iPhone first generation worked fine with "pushed" mail, calendars, contacts etc.
After the iPhone software upgrade (but I cannot say that it was linked to that upgrade. thpugh I did not see it before), now all my contgacts and all calendars are gone on the iPhone. They are still there on my computers and "in the cloud" on www.me.com, but not on my iPhone. I visited the Genius Bar at the London Apple Store, and at least the showed me how to go back to iTunes syncing of calendars and contacts (switching off syncing under Accounts on the iPhone). so now I got the important stuff back. But switching on Mobile.me synching again will very nicely sweep away all contacta and calendars in front of my eyes...
Mail is working nicely with mobile.me synching, though.
    Very frustrating.
Happy if anyonw has a clue.
    Thanks
    Uno

Try double clicking the home button. This should bring up a single row of apps. Hold down on one of them until they all start to wiggle with the little red circle with a minus in it. Find the mail and contacts apps and tap on those red circles. It's kind of a force quit for the app. Then try to reopen your mail and see if it'll let you in.
You can also look up on the right of this screen and see if there's any answers in the 'more like this' box.

  • E-mail/Push App?

    Hi,
I am looking for a good e-mail client for the N97, I don't want to use the Nokia one,
I would like something close to Outlook, supporting unlimited number of mailbox
as I look after several businesses and need to monitor several mailboxs
possibly with auto send=receive on all of them unlike the Nokia one,
that use to be limited to only one auto send-receive
    Thanks
    PS:
Or even a push e-mail software, as long as I can install a server on my PC and a client on the phone with no middle sever...

I'm using the built in email client on a 5800XM, I have multiple mailboxes, on different domains.. some pop, some imap, and all of which are configured to connect every 30 minutes.
    Works perfectly for me.

  • N72 e-mail push work and personal not working

    To Whom It May Concern:
As of Friday of last week I have been unable to push e-mail to my phone either through my works account (POP3) or Yahoo, via IMAP.
I've checked my settings and all seems fine, I even tried to reload and it isn't allowing me to do so.
Is there issues with Nokia messaging??

Guys, please, let us continue there …
By the way, if do you really want Nokia Messaging? If you enter a email address like [email protected], you are able to access the native (direct, without proxy) email client.

  • Junk Mail, Pushing messages, and a mystery icon

    1) Is there a junk mail filter? the Junk filter works so well on the iMac, I'd love to have one on my iTouch.
    2) Is there a way to limit the dates of messages that are loaded onto the device? If I've been working at the office and haven't used the iPod for a week, it's a nuisance to turn it on and have 200 messages show up, either that I've already dealt with at my desk, or are junk.
    3) So, I push the trash can icon again and again. Sometimes, however, the trash can icon is replaced by a file box with an arrow, and this icon isn't mentioned in the online user manual. Does anyone know what it is?

    1- No
2 - No you can just vary the number of message to download.
    3. The icon is probably an archive .  My gmail account shows an down arrow into open box and it is an archive.  To delete I select move and move to trash.

  • Mail Push isnt working.

Mail doesnt alert me of new messages when i get them or even check for them until i go into Mail. I thought push was meant to send messages to your phone as soon as they were sent?? I have also enabled this on my phone so that isnt the problem. I expected to have an alert whenever my e-mai account received a message.
    Any help??
    Thanks,
    Simon.

Turn Push off and leave all services to fetch. That seems to work.

  • Trouble with yahoo mail "pushing" to iphone 4s

Has anyone else had problems with their yahoo mail account "pushing" to their iphone 4s?  This problem has been happening off and on for about 2 months now.  Had an appointment with the genius bar at apple, tech wiped out the phone and told me to restore at home.  Said it should fix the problem which it did for about a week.  She said if it started happening again, it was probably the phone.  Went back last week and upgraded to 4s.  Mail worked for about 3 hours - hasn't worked since.  Tried deleting the account, restarting iphone, deleted majority of emails from inbox/trash/sent.  Nothing has worked.  It won't even fetch at the established times (15, 30, 1 hour).  Contacted yahoo mail also who said they had been advised on the problem and are "working on it"  Anyone have any experience with this?  Any help welcomed!

I have the same issue iphone 4s with iOS 5.0.1.
There is another thread here - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3378671?start=75&tstart=0. Seems like quite a few others have the same issue.  I also read in this or another forum that the push can be easily restarted by opening up the multitask bar (double click) and then close the mail app and then restart it. You can also do power down the phone and then start it up. Apparently the mail app needs to be running in the background. It seems that swithcing between wifi and 3G or a screen lock may have something to do with it (but I can't confirm this).
Nice to know Yahoo is working on it.

  • V7 Issues w/iMessage Activation & Mail Pushes

With version 7 I have't been able to activate iMessage or Facetime. I get the message "Could not sing in. Please check your network connection and try again". My network connection is fine.  Also I do not receive push notifications of my mail either in the app or in my Gmail app. Both are set properly to notify in the lock screen. Another thing...I multilple apps I get this message..."Connect to iTunes to Use Push Notifications". What does that mean?
Any ideas on any of these issues. Thanks.

  • To those experiencing Exchange mail push issues - Possible solution

For those who are having Exchange push problems, perhaps this may help:
I was having issues with Exchange push. It would work for about 20 minutes and then pushing would stop. I would have to launch the mail app manually to start syncing mail again and it would push for another few minutes. I tried the following without any help:
    1. Restore the phone with itunes (without a backup)
    2. Delete and re-create my exchange account. Sometimes, the top spinning wheel would just spin for hours after my mail was downloaded. This drained my battery within 3 hours with the wheel spinning.
    3. Try various combinations for domain\user
    4. SSL turned off - mail would not sync at all. I don't have control of the exchange server itself, so could not turn SSL off serverside.
    5. Tried turning off wifi and 3g... no difference.
    6. Used OWA and went into options, mobile preferences, and deleted the existing activesync profiles. (I had a Windows Mobile 6 device also in the profile list along with the iphone)
    7. Got my MIS department to check the min/max heartbeat interval in the xml file for Exchange 2007.
None of the above helped at all. So, I went to mail2web and set up a free account there to try and isolate if the issue was with Exchange, the phone, or the network provider. Mail2web took a couple of tries and I had to re-create my account on the iphone, but it pushed flawlessly for over a day. My MIS department had a first generation iphone they tested with and that worked well also. We even tried with a different cell carrier and it also worked.
This left only one conclusion. The issue was with my mailbox. I had asked for a mailbox move to a different server earlier, but MIS refused. Now they were willing to try it, and so my mailbox was moved from one Exchange 2007 server to another in the same segment. I had wanted my mailbox to be shifted from a UK server to one in America, but that was not allowed.
The good news is that moving my mailbox fixed the issue! We then tried another mailbox on the original server and that worked fine, so the issue was not server specific. Something in the mailbox was reset with the move and that fixed it. One thing we didn't get a chance to do is check the autd xml file that stores the current heartbeat interval. Maybe that was reset... but clearing the mobile profiles in OWA should have done that also and treated the iphone as a brand new device.
If you are experiencing the problem and don't have access to a second exchange server, maybe move the mailbox to a different store? Or, try with another test mailbox that is created fresh to see if that one also sees the problem.
    Hope this was helpful.
    N.

Man I had same problem as you and was sad that why my phone won't let me update!!
