E-mail vs contacts
What's the difference between e-mails that Mail memorizes contacts in the address book?
Where do I edit the e-mail addresses that Mail memorizes
Steve
i found a file called 'mailrecents-v4...' whitch is stored in 'user -> library -> application support -addresbook'
Not necessarily. You can send email from Address Book, at which point that address would be added to the Previous Recipient list, but "MailRecents" doesn't imply the same thing as Previous Recipients. And even if it were the same, it doesn't apply to OS X versions prior to 10.5.x, so the question remains as to where that data is really kept.

After IOS8 upgrade IPhone5s syncs with exchange but IPad2 syncs ONLY Mail and Contacts, NOT Calendar.
Also, my other tablet - Samsung TabS - has same issue - calendar wont sync. My IPhone and my desktop (windows) synch just fine.
Google calendar syncs on all devices. Totally stumped. Ideas anyone?
THANKS1. Log onto Outlook Web Access
2. Top right hand part of the screen select "Options"
3. Select "See All Options"
4. Select "Phone" menu
Check if you have 10 Devices registered.
If you have, you need to delete one of them to add your new Smart Phone to Exchange for synching
Check the "Last Sync Time" to indicate if this device is still active or not. -
Unable to open "compose mail/settings/contacts" in standard view in 2 out of 3 Gmail accounts. When "compose new mail" is selected "loading...." appears at the top then the page is frozen. ie you can't select inbox etc. Changing from standard to basic h/ml then clears the Loading... and gmail can be used (without spellcheck etc).
This might not be Mozilla, but I can access these accounts in standard view on another computer.Your Gmail account may well be an IMAP account, just like the iCloud mail account. In which case it will work in just the same way as iCloud mail, except that you will have to set it up manually on each device, where as iCloud mail adds the account itself when you log into iCloud.
Whilst it works the same as iCloud mail it isn't iCloud that syncs it for you. -
Calendar does not sync via ActiveSync. Mail and Contacts work fine.
I recently started using ActiveSync to connect to my corporate Exchange server. Mail and contacts synchronize properly, but calendar items are not downloaded from the server. The iPhone can write to the calendar by adding a new appointment of accepting a new meeting request. I can also see the full list of calendars in my Exchange mailbox when using the iPhone. Simply put, the calendar items are the only part that's missing.
My IT team has confirmed that calendar items will sync to Windows Mobile devices using ActiveSync.
Here are the steps I've taken to solve the problem:
1. I enabled and disabled calendar using the On/Off slider.
2. I removed and reconfigured the Exchange account on the iPhone
3. I confirmed that all calendar items in Exchange had the Message Class set to "IPM.Appointment"
4. I restored the iPhone to factory settings and used a new test Exchange account to confirm that corrupted calendar items were not an issue.
5. Confirmed that the capitalization of my e-mail address in the Exchange Account Info on the iPhone matches the primary SMTP entry in the Exchange GAL.Guys, I did a bit of research with my other iPhone/Exchange - buddies and this is what we found out:
1. Friend sends me an calendar event from his PC / Exchange Account
2. Calendar event displays as tentative on both my iPhone and on my PC / Exchange Account
3. I accept the calendar event on my PC / Exchange Account
4. Calendar event turns to "busy" on my PC / Exchange Account
5. Calendar event disappears from my iPhone
6. I double-click the event on my PC / Exchange Account and click "Accept" again
7. Calendar event reappears on my iPhone
Funny enough, this does not happen with all events - it seems to depend on the Exchange server and/or Outlook version in use. For those affected: Is your Exchange Server 2003 or 2007, and what version is the Exchange Server of the person who sent you the event in the first place? -
Exchange Sync works for Mail, Calendar, Contacts - but not for Notes
Hi,
I am using an iPhone 3G (16GB). The sync with my account on an Exchange Server (I think 2003) is working just great. Mail, Calendar, Contacts are all in snyc, but there seems to be no way of synchronising the Notes between the iPhone native app and the Exchange Notes.
Is there any way to make that happen?Notes syncing is only supported via USB/iTunes sync with Outlook (Windows) or Mail (Mac), not via Exchange. So, there is no way to sync the native iPhone Notes app with your notes on Exchange. There are 3rd party apps that can access your Exchange notes, though.

Mail pushes, Contacts & Calendars disappeared
iPhone first generation worked fine with "pushed" mail, calendars, contacts etc.
After the iPhone software upgrade (but I cannot say that it was linked to that upgrade. thpugh I did not see it before), now all my contgacts and all calendars are gone on the iPhone. They are still there on my computers and "in the cloud" on www.me.com, but not on my iPhone. I visited the Genius Bar at the London Apple Store, and at least the showed me how to go back to iTunes syncing of calendars and contacts (switching off syncing under Accounts on the iPhone). so now I got the important stuff back. But switching on Mobile.me synching again will very nicely sweep away all contacta and calendars in front of my eyes...
Mail is working nicely with mobile.me synching, though.
Very frustrating.
Happy if anyonw has a clue.
Thanks
UnoTry double clicking the home button. This should bring up a single row of apps. Hold down on one of them until they all start to wiggle with the little red circle with a minus in it. Find the mail and contacts apps and tap on those red circles. It's kind of a force quit for the app. Then try to reopen your mail and see if it'll let you in.
You can also look up on the right of this screen and see if there's any answers in the 'more like this' box. -
Hi!
I've just migrated my old system (PowerMac G5 running 10.5) to a new MacBook Air (11'' Mid 2013) using the migration assistant. I've had problems with crashing applications (as far as I can see only Apple software has been affected: Mail, Preview, Contacts, TextEdit) since I've completed the migration.
I've already done the following: reinstalled 10.9.1 update, repaired permissions and checked volume through recovery. Reset SMC, PRAM and done a safe boot. Rebuilt the Spotlight index. Nothing has helped thus far.
Console is flooded with the following, repeated messages:

I guess that migration assistant moved something over that interferes with the new systems. Do you have any ideas what to do? My next step would be to reinstall the system from recovery. Any other suggestions?
Thanks!Solved. Threw away the only Imap-Account (Folder [email protected]) and it worked;

Mail and contacts not showing in application switcher
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, mail and contacts are not showing in the application switcher.
So, I have to re-open mail and contacts if I switch screens - it is absolutely infuriating because I constantly switch screens when I work.
Does anyone else have the same issue? My mail and contacts are on exchange server, which may have something to do with it?Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. -
If I upgrade to Icloud will I lose all my mail ? contacts etc.. Im on lion.
No, but that does not mean that you should not backup first, unless you like taking chances that is.

My 3G unlocked iPhone is not syncing mail or contacts from my mac book pro, using Lion. I am able to get a calendars and music, only. I get the message that I need to reset the password which I have done 3x's on the phone and on the Apple server.
Good to know that, but what can I do to get the mail and contacts downloaded from Icloud onto my Iphone? I am told that the password needs to be reset and I have erased and reset it 3x's already? Should I Restore All Settings or Restore Network Settings or will that result in a situation where I have to have it re-unlocked again? GRACIAS!

Mountain Lion LDAP for Mail and Contacts fail
Both the Mail and Contacts application fail in the same manner.
The System Console spits out continuously
if using the Contacts app:
Contacts: unhanded case: 115
Or if using the Mail app:
Mail: unhanded case: 115
Does not auto complete and have tried all the remedies in the forum currently. Including the removal of com.apple.mail in the ~/Library/Containers
This worked previously in Lion and Snow Leopard..
LDAP is configured for SSL(636), subtree (4 levels), and simple authenticationI have no updated to 10.8.2 as of last week and this issue still exists...Is there nobody that has seen this issue?
Thanks -
Mail, Calendar, Contacts System Preference problems
I am having trouble updating account informtaion in the Mail, Calendar, Contacts System Preferences.
I can update account information but when I close the System preference panel and reopen it, the changes are not saved and revert to the previous state.
I can change account information in Mail, iCal and Address Book but any changes are not reflected in the Mail, Calendar, Contacts System Preference panel.
A Lion bug?
Any insight or advice is appreciated.I have this exact same issue!
I was on 2.0.1 running fine until late last week, noticed emails would not show up unless I had opened them in outlook. I thought I ran into a bug so I upgraded to 2.0.2. Now I can sync my email if outlook had them opened previously, but no calendar or contacts at all. I don't think my exchange admins will move me to another server, any other ideas?
I love my iphone but if these features don't work I can't use it. I would appreciate any ideas. -
Office 365 REST API - Mail, Calendar, Contacts Update
UPDATE: We have announced General Availability of our REST APIs. The refreshed documentation which covers all the changes and much more is now available
here.
I wanted to share an update on our Mail, Calendar, Contacts REST API. Over the last few months we have been heads down updating the APIs. Most of the changes are a direct result of all the great feedback that we have received from
customers like you and we are very excited about sharing these changes.
These changes are starting to light up in the service and we have already received questions/comments about them from some of you.
Some of these changes are not backward compatible.
Due to versioning not yet implemented (but coming soon!), and these API’s being in preview, they might require simple updates to your code.
Once versioning is in place, introducing non-backward compatible changes won’t impact your existing code.
Stay tuned for a full list of these changes along with the refreshed documentation and client libraries.
We have received a number of questions on some specific changes which I wanted to share a workaround for:
1. Folder names after ../ews/odata/Me, such as Inbox, SentItems, DeletedItems, Drafts will additionally require a “Folders” in front of them in the URL.
REST URL:
Before :
https://outlook.office365.com/ews/odata/Me/Inbox
Now :
https://outlook.office365.com/ews/odata/Me/Folders/Inbox
.Net code sample:
var messageResultsBefore = await (from i in client.Me.Inbox.Messages select i).ExecuteAsync();
var messageResultsNow = await (from i in client.Me.Folders.GetById("Inbox").Messages select i).ExecuteAsync();
2. The Namespace has been updated from "#Microsoft.Exchange.Services.OData.Model" to “Microsoft.OutlookServices” and hence the fully qualified type names have to be updated to reflect that. In most cases though, you do not need to provide the odata.type
property as we can infer it based on where you make the post. For example, if you POST to ../Me/Contacts, we know you are trying to create a contact.
3. Contacts changes: To make the API easier to use, we have replaced EmailAddress1, EmailAddress2, EmailAddress3 with a collection of a new type called EmailAddress. We have similarly also changed BusinessPhones, HomePhones to collections.
Sample payload showing how to create a contact with EmailAddresses and BusinessPhones:
"GivenName": "John",
"EmailAddresses": [
"Address": "[email protected]",
"Name": "John"
"BusinessPhones": [
"123-456-7890"
4. Event Changes: The property Attendees now includes the type “EmailAddress”.
Sample Event payload showing how to create an Event.

"Body": {
"ContentType": "HTML",
"Content": "I think it will meet our requirements!"
"Start": "2014-07-02T18:00:00Z",

"Name": "Anne Wallace",
"Address": "[email protected]"
"Type": "Optional"
"EmailAddress": {
"Name": "Conference Room 1",
"Address": "[email protected]"
"Type": "Resource"
5. We have introduced a simple API for sending email called SendMail, and have removed the custom parameter MessageDisposition which was difficult to understand and discover.
The sendmail action, takes two parameters, a required parameter which is the Message itself and an optional parameter, "SaveToSentItems" which by default is set to true.
Sample Request to create and send email with one call:
POST:
https://outlook.office365.com/ews/odata/me/sendmail
"Message":{
"Subject": "Have you seen this new Mail REST API?",
"Importance": "High",
"Body": {
"ContentType": "HTML",
"Content": "It looks awesome!"
"ToRecipients": [{
"EmailAddress": {
"Name": "John Doe",
"Address": "[email protected]"
If you are running into any issues please post on stackoverflow here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/office365
We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued feedback!Hi,
I was trying to create and update the calendar event using [POST] https://outlook.office365.com/api/v1.0/me/events and [PATCH] https://outlook.office365.com/api/v1.0/me/events/<eventId> respectively.
When i try with poster or postman, I get this error
{error: {code: "ErrorInvalidRequest" message: "Cannot read the request body."} }
its not working . Any help will be appreciated.
Note: GET events and DELETE Events are working. I think the API with payload is not working. -
