E-mailing AppleWorks files as attachments to non-Mac PCs

Assuming the poor devils are (a) using windows and (b) do not have access to AW for Windows, there are a number of ways to do this.
Firstly if the recipient needs to be able to edit the information in the file you will need to save your AW file in a format they can read AND edit, often RTF or Word for Windows for word processing, Excel or CSV for spreadsheets, JPEG for Draw or Paint and ascii text for Database (although here you will only send the data not the layouts). Use File / Save as to do any of these.
Secondly if they only need to read or print the information you can save it as a pdf file (via print preview).

  • XI: Mail - XI - File, all attachments in folder

    Hello Group!
I am working on the following scenario: Mail -> XI -> File (XI NW2004 SP19)
The mail adapter picks up the mails form the mail server and the file adapter should save the files to an existing folder. Basically the adapter works fine, but I have problems with attachments. The file adapter only save one file (the mail) to the folder. The attachments won´t be saved to the destination.
Then I found the Module PayloadZipBean (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/de/45/da9358a1772e97e10000000a155369/frameset.htm). In the monitoring I can see all attachments in the payload. So I tried this module to zip all payload contents (as described in: /people/stefan.grube/blog/2007/02/20/working-with-the-payloadzipbean-module-of-the-xi-adapter-framework).
But it doesn´t work. No zip file will be created. Do I have to install the PayloadZipBean?
    My settings:
    Reg. Parameter:
    Transport Protocoll: NFS
    Message Protocoll: File
    Adapter Engine: Integration Server
File name scheme: example.zip  (it just works with .dat - but then only the mail)
    File construction mode: Add Counter
    Write mode: Directly
    File Type: binary
    Reg. Module:
    Nr____Module Name________________Type___________________Module Key
    1 - - - - AF_Modules/PayloadZipBean - - Local Enterprise Bean - - - - 1
    2 - - - - CallSapAdapter - - - - - - - - - - - - Local Enterprise Bean - - - - 0
    Module Key__Parameter Name__Parameter Value
    1 - - - - - - - - - zip.filenameKey - - contentType
    1 - - - - - - - - - zip.mode - - - - - - - zipAll
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Martin

    Hi Stefan!
    Hi Group!
Now the PayloadZipBean works. The reason was, that I try to use variable substition. Without this, it works.
But unfortunatelly, I need the variable substition. The name of the zip or of the target folder should have the name of the mail subject.
    In your great blog
    /people/stefan.grube/blog/2007/02/20/working-with-the-payloadzipbean-module-of-the-xi-adapter-framework
you use no variable substitution. Do you know how to handle it?
When I use the variable substitution, the following error appears:
    com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.DeliveryException: Error during variable substitution:
    com.sap.aii.adapter.file.varsubst.VariableDataSourceException:
Caught SAXException while parsing XML payload: Fatal Error: com.sap.engine.lib.xml.parser.ParserException: XMLParser:
    No data allowed here: (hex) 50, 4b, 3(:main:, row:1, col:3)</
    Settings of variable substituion:
    File name scheme: %subject%.zip
    Variable substitution: subject = payload:Mail,1,Subject,1
    (this works without the PayloadZipBean)
In my opinion, the reason is the order of module and adapter.
At first, the module PayloadZipBean starts to zip all payloads in one zip. Then the file adapter starts and tries to use the variable substitution. But then there is no access to the first payload anymore --> error.
Does you or somebody else know, how to handle this?
Maybe there is a better solution without the PayloadZipBean. I just want to save all mail attachments to a file system with the name of the mail subject. Unfortunately with the file adapter only the first payload will be saved to the file system - maybe there is a better solution.
    Thanks,
    Martin

  • File structure question for non .Mac hosts.

I am a support person for a labour union that host web sites for its locals. The technical knowledge level of these web masters are very low. A couple of them uses iWeb to design and publish their web sites. My question is, do iWeb forcibly put all files inside a sub folder instead of publishing to the root folder?
Users will be locked into their home directory after logging onto our FTP server. The index file should reside in this directory. However, the users who uses iWeb seem to always get their files published into a sub directory instead of the root folder.
Since the office I work out of is a Windows based work environment, I do not have easy access to trouble shoot iWeb software. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

When uploading to a server, the inclusion of the file and the folder causes the problem. If they exclude the "extra" index file and upload the contents of the folder (i.e. not the folder itself) to the root folder on the server then all should be well.
If they exclude the "extra" index file and upload the contents of the folder (i.e. not the folder itself) to the root folder on the server then all should be well.
This is not correct, Roddy. (Sorry) The published Site folder that iWeb generates should be uploaded as is. You cannot open the folder and upload the contents inside individually--this will break the site structure.
The Site folder provided by the iWeb application must be uploaded as is--i.e., by dropping the entire folder into the directory. The index.html file must also be uploaded into the same directory--not excluded. Both index.html files, (inside and outside of the Site folder) must be included.

None that I'm aware of but with the iPhone SDK - software developers kit being released at the end of next month, a 3rd party software developer may provide an avenue for this function and you can leave Apple feedback about this here.

  • Pdf files as attachments in Mail

Sometimes pdf attachments in mail are saved as a pdf file with icon other times the document is visible and fills the whole page - How can I ensure only the pdf file is attaced and not the open document - seems to be there is no reason as to why this is ?
Using Blackbook + Leopard latest updates

Don't understand the reply above; I assume it's for another thread.
Not to worry: Mail will show you the pdf if it can but when you send it the file will be attached. If the other person's mail reader can view attachments inline then it will and there's nothing you do about that.

  • Problems with Adobe pdf files as attachments in Mail

I have 4 Adobe pdf files that I can open and view without a problem.
The minute I try to attach them to an email to send to someone else, they show in the email as blank pages with the message that in order to be viewed, a more recent version of Adobe needs to be downloaded. It doesn't make sense - if my Adobe is up to date enough to open them normally, why can't Mail open them as attachments?
    Flummoxed!

I have sent you an email reply with the following text:
I would not say things are exactly OK, but here is what I found out:
The two documents were produced by the program described at the link below:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/designer/
The forms, which would open in Adobe Reader 9, are filled out -- typically forms that you file out on such agency sites are only printable, and cannot be Saved in a filled out form -- yours are filled out with data -- data that could be sensitive. I will delete them very quickly, as soon as we have concluded any discussions.
Neither file could be opened with Adobe Photoshop CS3, except to show the same error message, which is pretty unusual, nor could they be opened with Graphic Converter any differently, which is equally unusual.
The file header, when observed in Raw Source, says the application that produced it is unknown -- a good reason Mail nor Preview could open. I am pasting in one of the file headers from Raw Source view:
    --------------090301040801050804080205
    Content-Type: application/x-unknown;
    name="09.02.06 FKR IT34 Assessment 2008.pdf"
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
    Content-Disposition: inline;
    filename="09.02.06 FKR IT34 Assessment 2008.pdf"
All-in-all I would say these are very unusual files.

  • How can one send email-sized photo files as attachments in Mail, without the photos appearing within the email?s

How can one send email-sized photo files as attachments in Apple Mail, without the photos appearing in the body of the email?  If it can be done, it's not at all obvious, at least not to me.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

The "View as icon" option shrinks the photo to an icon in the sender's Apple Mail, but how it appears to the recipient varies dependingy on what e-mail client he/she uses.
Using Apple Mail 5.0 (the Lion version) at both ends, the sender can use the "View as icon" option to shrink his view of the photo to an icon, but the recipient also using Apple Mail 5.0 still sees the full photo in line with the message text. The recipient can then use the "View as icon" option to shrink it to an icon, but I don't think that's not what jackofarabia is looking for.
As far as I know there is no way in the current Apple Mail to do what jackofarabia wants. There should be, but there isn't.

  • How to open transferred IIgs appleworks files on Mac?

My cousin has many years of Appleworks files authored on a IIgs that she needs to bring into Appleworks on the Mac.
We can get them to the Mac, but cannot open them in Appleworks on the Mac.
    All suggestions are appreciated!
    TIA

OK. When Keith posts back we'll go from there. I'll do a little more "digging" & see if I can find what I wrote before. I'm sure I saved it. I'm hanging on to at least one older Mac with System 7-something & a functioning floppy drive to move files back & forth.
I found it. It's from February/March of last year.
The biggest problem is getting the files from the Apple IIgs to the Mac. I'm not sure that OS 9 is able to read ProDOS disks. I think (but I'm not positive) the last was OS 8.1. If you do have access to a 3.5" drive for the Apple II, you can transfer the files. The problem is that Apple II disks are 800K (double-density, not high-density) disks. There were HD 3.5" drives made for the Apple IIgs, but very few users had them & they required GSOS 6. None of the USB floppy drives available can read these older disks. If you have access to an older Mac or can e-mail the files from the IIgs, this will solve that part of the problem. An elementary school might be able to help you. Or, perhaps, one of the few Apple II User Groups still in existence.
Although both programs are named AppleWorks they are not the same. AppleWorks 6 for the Mac does not have translators for classic AppleWorks or AppleWorks GS for the Apple II. Earlier versions of ClarisWorks & AppleWorks 5 for the Mac do have translators for classic AppleWorks word processing, spreadsheets & databases as well as AWGS word processing. To transfer AWGS spreadsheet or database files, the best option is to save them as ASCII text (SS or DB), SLYK (SS) or DBF (DB) on the IIgs before transferring them to the Mac. It is also possible that MacLink Plus by DataViz has the translators.
For inexpensive options to buy AppleWorks 5 or ClarisWorks 5, try eBay and do a search for "Clarisworks", "Claris Works" or "AppleWorks" (some people put a "space" in the name). However, AppleWorks 6.2.9 cannot open a lot of ClarisWorks 4 or earlier files.

  • How can I convert the old AppleWorks files into a modern useable format?

I've been using Mac computers for many years. The most important application (to me) was AppleWorks. But now I have learned that if I upgrade
to Lion all my Appleworks files will be lost.  I have searched in many places for the "How to convert AppleWorks files to some format that WILL
be supported by Apple.  I see no information on the Apple website and when I speak to a support person, I am always told that AppleWorks is
so very old, it was not included in their training so they cannot tell me anything.  The little bits of advice I did get caused all my 20,000 AppleWorks
files to be moved into my LaCie terrabyte external storage file, and at the same time the old files remain in my Macintosh Hard Drive. But in both
places, those files cannot be read any more, and the nicely organized work I had done, was all gone. I mean - my AppleWorks files were always
grouped by folders into special interest sections.  Now those folders don't exist and everything is in disarray - and unreadable. The titles of each
file is now greyed out.  I have tried
to make the transfer in Bento3 but mostly in iWork06.  I was told by Apple staff NOT to buy a higher iWork such as 09 because they are too
far removed from the old AppleWorks to be able to do anything with it.  So I've stuck to iWork06 with no success.  Also, I went to my favorite
privately owned Apples store and found all their instruction manuals and DVD application files MISSING. Their shelves are empty. I was told
the new way is to order off the internet but....I'd far rather go into a shop and see all they offer for sale.  If I had gone there to buy ONE item,
I'd drive away with THREE items, because getting my hands on items was the important way to understand what the value and purpose
    of that item is.
To summarize: I have installed iWorks06 with no written information about it.  I have iWork08 with an instruction book which never never
mentions AppleWorks, so I have not installed iWork08.  I have Bento3 installed, but no instruction book.  So I haven't learned or tried anything
because it too never speaks of AppleWorks transfer.  Some of my AppleWorks files are extremely important to me. Not just personal or
social but BUSINESS!  I won't be able to answer the tax man should he come a-knocking on my door.   HELP!!

So what kinds of files are they? Word processing docs, from the painting Appleworks app, or spreadsheets?
This is how I've handled it:
Anything word processing: should be able to import them (drag them in or import) into Pages. Worked here.
Spreadsheets: Used File > Open to open an AW spreadsheet. Needs a few adjustments, but I was able to tailor Numbers to get my spreadsheets the way I wanted them. Just experimented for a while with a non-essential spreadsheet until I figured out what to do.
Painting: That is the one I used the most (and continue to do so): Cannot be read by any iWork. If your doc is a finished product, simply save it as a .pdf or .jpg and then you can drag it into Pages. If it is not, then you are out of luck. I am keeping a partition with a bootable Snow Leopard system with Appleworks on it in order to be able to keep creating my stuff because I've not been able to find a somewhat equal substitute.
So, keeping SL on a partition and/or an external drive is one option if necessary.

  • After update to OSX 10.9, Mail won't send attachments

Since upgrading to Mavericks (OSX 10.9), Mail (7.0) won't send email attachments using my employer's MS Exchange account.  All other messages (without attachments) send just fine, and no Exchange server or account settings were changed.  Attachments send just fine via the exchange web application, so it's not an account or mailbox size issue.  The problem happens even with small attachments (I just tried one that was 173 kb).
After I hit send, the activity window says "adding message" for a time, then an error comes up "Cannot send message using the Exhange server" then give me an option to use my gmail or icloud which work fine.
    Any ideas?

I actually was able to solve the issue using some info gleaned from other posts.  I think it had to do with some exchange account settings from a prior version of Mail that were still on my machine and interfering with the new Mail app.  Here's what I did to fix the issue.
Make sure I had a good backup in Time Machine (including system settings) in case something goes wrong
Delete Exchange account using "system preferences > internet accounts"
    Close Mail
    Show hidden files
Terminal command:  defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    Terminal command:  killall Finder
Using Finder, locate and delete the file:  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Using Finder, locate and delete the folder(s) and all their contents:  ~/Library/Mail/V2/EWS-(your exchange acct info)I actually had a couple of these "EWS" folders in there from prior times that I had setup my exchange account.  Not sure why ... I just deleted them all.
    Empty the recycle bin
    Reboot the computer
Hide hidden files (not necessary, it's just my preference)
Terminal command:  defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    Terminal command:  killall Finder
Open "system preferences > internet accounts" and setup Exchange account as if it were the first time.
It took a while for all my mailboxes to rebuild and everything to come in, but after the initial sync, Mail 7.0 now works perfectly with my Exchange account including sending mail with file attachments.  It's actually a lot quicker to receive and send than the prior version of Mail.
It doesn't seem like a widespread problem, but I hope this at least helps you (eprasek) with your issue.  Best of luck!

  • Mail is corrupting PDF attachments

about 25% of the PDF files I receive as attachments show as an icon in the top part of the msg, but also show as unreadable hex "text" in the bottom part of the msg.
If I click on the PDF ICON in Mail.app, it opens fine in PREVIEW.APP
IF I forward any mail with this sort of PDF Attachment (showing as "text" at the bottom) to a windows user, they can NOT open the file... Adobe Acrobat Reader says the file is corrupt.
A corollary is - a LOT of the PDF files I receive from an e-fax service as PDF files show as CORRUPT on the Mac, but open FINE on Windows (Adobe Acrobat Reader).. saying the file is not "correctly encoded"
This is a SERIOUS PROBLEM... If I can't get mail to reliably open and forward PDF files to Windows users, I have no choice but to give up on Mail.app and use Windows...
I have to deal with way too many PDF files as attachments to worry that every one I send may be corrupt to some windows user.
IF apple would give us a way to submit one of these files, I would gladly do so... but apparently from MAIL.APP they do not!
    Any ideas?

    Keith,
    I saw your other post.
With problem Forwarding, try this again, but before sending, click on Format in the Menubar, and choose Make Plain Text. Then let me know what happens.
I do not you have a transmission problem. The problem in the other topic, with Walter, is still under review, but has been traced to only be with that one IMAP server, and regardless of which network you are connected to.
The text at the bottom may be a clue that that Rich Text is being converted to HTML at some point, and the HTML has compromised the content of the PDF.
Feel free to send me an example, by email. My address can be found by clicking on my name.

  • Attaching files as Attachments, not INLINE attachments

I'm sending images to a client who's on Lotus Notes (7.02). We have discovered an issue with inline attachments in Lotus, where attachments can only be drag and dropped out of Lotus if the attachment was NOT sent as an inline attachment.
This was tested in Thunderbird by changing the mail.contentdispositiontype preference as per this article:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sendattachments_as_realattachments
In any event, the client is not able to switch from Lotus to OS X mail or any other client– as this is a large organization.
The issue is easily fixed on my end by using Thunderbird– but that's not the path that I'd like to take–I'd like to know how to address this in OS X Mail.
I've already clicked on windows friendly, send at end of message, and tried right clicking and setting the attachment to 'show as icon'– all in an attempt to get OS X Mail to send 'real' attachments, as opposed to inline.
Does anyone know of a .plist file, or a hidden preference that can be enabled to address this?
    Thanks!

exactly the same with on of my clients (Lotus, blocker, large org...). I have filed an problem case on this.
    http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2183.txt
    http://www.iana.org/assignments/mail-cont-disp
My understanding is Apple Mail has no outgoing option (GUI) to set the "Mail Content Disposition Value" to "attachment" (RFC2183 2.2) to have an "user controlled display" as opposed to "inline" (RFC2183 2.1) and "displayed automatically" on the side of the recipient.
In short the Summary (RFC2183 4.):
+"Content-Disposition takes one of two values, `inline' and `attachment'. `Inline' indicates that the entity should be immediately displayed to the user, whereas `attachment' means that the user should take additional action to view the entity."+
I also suggest we should also have a preference for incoming mail to not display content at all as "inline" regardless of the Content-Disposition Value if we want to.
Btw. I am also missing the option (MDN) to request a notification that a message is delivered/read.
