E-mails and websites all down this AM

Hello. I am on vacation and went to update my websites and send some business e-mails home. All of my websites are down. Someone said it might have to do with needing to buy an icloud device but I have no idea what that is -- is this some sort of thing like an ipad or ipod? I hope my computer just did not become unusable. Please advise. I just want my e-mails and websites back up as I have been sending people to view my websites (mostly charity events I organize).
Thanks!

My e-mail is also down and it won't recognize the password I have been using since 2008! I have no idea what is going on! Thanks!

If you cannot get mail to quit/force quit, you can always remove power from your Mac.
NOTE: removing power is a bad idea, and can result in data loss, but sometimes it is the only thing left to do.
Press and hold the power button for 5 to 10 seconds, and the Mac will power off.
When you power back on, the Mac should reboot.

I heard someone once talking about the NY app - it's the best selling one in the publisher's line (Conde Nast?), and they deliberately kept it as simple and "untechy" as possible - the closest in their line to the actual print edition. The discussion was on how it was surprising that the magazine with the least amount of "bells and whistles" was their best seller... and a speculation that it was because it was so simple and uncluttered. Perhaps their decision to remove pinch & zoom was related to that idea.

    Hello lclaunch22
You may need to validate the account with Hotmail. When logged in to the Hotmail account on a computer, there are instructions on how to do this.

  • Installed 10.5; updated Mail and lost all items in mailbox folders

I rushed out and bought OS 10.5 yesterday ... home and installed it. Opened my Apple Mail application and it automatically prompted me to update it, so I did. However when all was said and done, the items in my mailbox folders disappeared.
I suppose I could go back and do a manual import to restore the files. However isn't this something that apple should have thought of? Also is there an easier way?
    Thanks

If you tried all this an nothing worked i would back up my stuff quik as "¤#% and erase and instal.
    Regarding your emails:
If you have IMAP you will still be able to acsess them by your webmail
" E-mail clients using IMAP generally leave messages on the server until the user explicitly deletes them"
    If you have POP3
"Although most clients have an option to leave mail on server, e-mail clients using POP3 generally connect, retrieve all messages, store them on the user's PC as new messages, delete them from the server, and then disconnect."
This is just an idea, and it migth not work, but you should give it a try:
Try safe-boot and see if its the same problem opening mail, if you manage to open it in safe boot you should be able to back up you emails from there.
    Safe-boot:
Hold down the <Shift> during startup until you see the login window with red text saying "Safe boot"
I migth be wrong, but i think there is another way to back up your mails from some system folder-not sure what one tho, someone else here or apple support can prbly awnser that
    Good luck

  • How does cyrus flag the state of  mail and can we preserve this ?

When I restore an e-mail account the user gets his mail as unread
What i am saying here is
We use imap accounts and I had to restore the mail from a backup, all the users got there mail back, but all as unread including the folders they created.
it would be handy to know

There is no reliable way of preserving the read/unread states when restoring.

  • Safari, Mail and iPhoto all quitting...

I had trouble with iPhoto quitting after a few seconds, but now Mail and Safari are doing the same, I wasn't sure where to post this query, thanks, any help welcome.

Does the issue occur in a new user account?
If you do not have one available, you can create one by going to System Preferences > Accounts, click on the lock to unlock it, click the "+" button to add a new account, then fill in the required information and click "Create Account".
Log out from your regular account and then into the new one. Are you able to open Safari here?
    Best of luck.

  • Why can't I hover over a persons name and see address or pick "find mail" and see all eamils from that person anymore?

When hovering over a persons name in an email I receive it used to show the actual email address.
When right clicking on a persons name in an email I receive it used to show a drop-down list where I could choose "find email" and all email from that person would be displayed.

Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Mozilla Thunderbird, see this forum for support.

  • Can the iPhone only pull inbox mail and not all unread mail?

Yahoo correctly filters my mail into inbox and spam. The iPhone pulls ALL unread mail rather than just that from the inbox. Anyway to fix this?

What is unread except for what is in your Inbox mailbox?
Are you accessing a free Yahoo account with the iPhone's Mail client, and did you use the Yahoo account preset when creating your Yahoo account?
If so, the Yahoo account preset on an iPhone creates the account as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail client. With an IMAP account, the email client used to access the account keeps all server stored mailboxes for the account synchronized with the server. All messages received by the account, and available in the account's Inbox mailbox on the server, will be available in the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's Mail client - which keeps the mailbox synchronized with the server. If spam is received at the server and is available in the account's Inbox mailbox at the server, the same messages will be available in the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's Mail client. This is how an IMAP account works.
With a POP account, any messages that remain in the account's Inbox mailbox at the server will be downloaded when accessing the account with a new email client, and will be shown as unread when downloaded by a new email client used to access the account. This is also normal for a POP account when accessing the account with a new email client.
The iPhone's Mail client does not included a spam filter. Even if it did, new messages received at the server and available in the account's Inbox mailbox at the server will be downloaded - spam and all - which is the same for any email client.

  • How do I change an Apple ID payment method to 'None'? I've tried everything and the only solution is to get a new e-mail and start all over again. Any other options?

How do I change an Apple ID payment method to 'None'? I've tried everything and I found the only solution is to apply all over again with another e-mail address. Any other options?

Buy an iTunes Music Card and redeem it to your account - the "none" option should be available then.

  • Need recommendations for virus/firewall protection on iphone-i believe my iphone has a virus because i keep getting 20 no info e-mails and then all my inbox is wiped out!

Does anyone have suggestions for virus protection/firewall/etc on iphone 3GS? i believe i have a virus on my phone because several times, all my inbox mail is wiped out and also i get abot 20 bogus e-mails with no content/with wierd dates/cannot be deleted.

Unless you have jailbroken your iphone it does not have a virus.
There is no malware affecting legit iphones.
It sounds like your e-mail account has been hacked, NOT your iphone.

I don't remember seeing anyone else report the problem.
Try setting up a new user account and see if you still have the problem when logged into that.

How can I remove all my preferences and settings from mail and do a clean install of mail app?

Open mail > Preferences > Accounts

~/Library/Mail/ and move all of the items in that folder to the trash and then empty it.

  • Please settle this discrepancy once and for all re: maximum ram.

My old iMac SE DV graphite was purchased and delivered in January, 2000. The original order catalog (which I kept) claimed that it was "expandable to 512mb", as were all the 400mhz G3 slot-loading DV models in various 'flavors' including my Graphite Special Edition model. Also, both / all versions had the ATIRage 128 accelerator with 8mb SDRAM.
The only differences I can discern are that my Graphite has more ram (128mb) and had a slightly bigger hard drive (13GB on the graphite vs 10GB for the 'fruit').
Note: I have since replaced the hard drive with a 20GB since the original died within the first 2 years.
On this disussion site and other places (including MacWorld articles) I've seen conflicting statements as regards the MAXIMUM RAM my graphite should/could have. Some say 1GB (2x512) and some say 512 (2x256).
Can anyone once and for all, settle this question for me so that I can make an intelligent purchase?
(and thank you for the info re: PC100 as the way to go, not PC133)
    Thanks & Peace to all.

At the time of its release Apple certified it for 512 MBs probably because larger DIMMs weren't available. In fact you can expand it to a max of 1 GB (two 512 MB DIMMs.) You will need 2 - PC100 3.3V 168-pin SDRAMs.
I can recommend DataMem as a reliable source for fairly priced RAM for Macs. The item you want is here.
