When composing a new e-mail the address of the recipient no longer comes up when I type the first few letters.

If you recently did the upgrade to ios5 the email used file may have been wiped. See if it rebuilds over time.

3. Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't work, try these steps:
1. Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
2. Tap Settings > iCloud and try to sign out.
3. Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
4. Tap Settings > iCloud and sign in with the new Apple ID.

Attachments in Apple Mail not received by addressee. Same attachment sent via Google mail received ok. Why?

I sometime need to send attachments such as pegs to a Uscg.mil address. The attachments do not show up to the addressee, and it is probably due to a security firewall on the military side. However, the same attachment goes through fine if sent using web mail (Gmail). There must be some difference in the way Apple embeds an attachment that causes it to be rejected by the military security firewall. Any thoughts on this?

Did you ever find a solution to your problem sending email with attachments? I am getting the same message - "please select a different server" when I try to send emails with attachements...VERY FRUSTRATING...!

Here's how this has progressed.
Problem: Poor cell phone reception at my house.
1. I signed up for FiOS with home phone service in order to have a way to talk on the phone at my house.
2. The new phone is constantly bombarded with tele-marketers. The service is horrible (faint sounds and voice pickup).
3. Tech support could not fix the problem. 2 calls did not fix the problem.
4. In the mean time, I attempted to combine my wireless and FiOS onto one bill. I'm told that's not possible. Is VZ really just one company?
5. Also in the mean time, I attempt to get a Government Employee discount on my residential service. I've enjoyed one on my wireless service ever since I've had a cell phone thanks to the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act. I made 2 attempts online, through my .mil address and ultimately on the phone with the company. No resolution. I'm convinced it doesn't exist.
6. Since the phone doesn't work, I wanted to save a little money and just disconnect the service. I should have read the fine print though. I was charged $220 to disconnect this service.
Conclusion: I should have left well enough alone and stuck with Time Warner Cable and suffered through the bad cell phone reception at my house.
I assume that there is no resolution to any of this. I looked for a way to provide the company with feedback but there didn't appear to be any. At the very least, maybe this can serve as a warning to other unsuspecting people thinking about switching to more VZ service. At least in this part of California, less is definitely better.

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". Nslookup output changes between Solaris 8 and 10

I have a customer that has asked why and if the output can be changed to match?
We have noticed a difference on the nslookup reverse lookup with
Solaris 10.
On Solaris 8 we get:

On Solaris 10 we get:

SPARC doesn't need a split boot loader like BIOS/x86. The OBP can directly load from any slice. So 'boot disk:a' would boot from slice 0 and 'boot disk:g' would boot from slice 6.

GPS locating me about 30 miles away, at the same address every time.

Since I've upgraded to iOS4, I've had issues with my Maps app and Location Services like Foursquare placing me about 30 miles away from wherever I am, but always at the same address (which I've never been anywhere near). I understand there is inherent interference and the signal won't always be reliable, but for there to be a single point the phone believes it constantly is makes me think there might be another issue. I have a third-party turn-by-turn app and that finds me correctly (although there's a significant delay between when I get out on the road and when it picks up signal), so I'm not sure if it's the GPS itself, or a glitch in the new location APIs. Has anyone else experienced this?

No clue, then. There's a Reset Network Settings button in Settings, Reset, which people report helps with various glitches.
If this is the iPhone 4, we're still all within the 90 days of free phone support--call AppleCare? I think people may also have reported AT&T resetting stuff that speaks to the location info sent through the cell towers, so maybe worth a call to them.

My IP address is listed as being 250 miles away

My IP Address is listed as Harrogate, Yorkshire some 250 miles away from me, is this normal?! It's usually Southampton or Bournemouth, I live 10 miles from Southampton.

perfectly normal IP addresses are registered in various places it makes no difference to your connection

That way if I select a Contact entry it will still come up on the map in the right location.

Both my location on my iMac and my iPad are showing me 1500 miles away in Casper Wyoming at my previous address, how can I reset this?

I stupidly had the computer store set up my computer this last time when I made the transition to Mac. I have never donew this before and at the time bought the whole set up with a Time Capsule Airport, Wireless Printer and my iMac. We have since moved 1500 miles away and everything that want's to utilize my current locaiton places me back in Wyoming. How can I change this? I've tried resetting the wifi and done multiple other things to no avail. I know, why did I let someone else set up my system when I should have used that time to learn more about my Apple set up?

This probably has nothing to do with how the system was set up. For WiFi-only devices such as a Mac, Apple's location services go by the location of the WiFi router, not your actual location (since they have no other means for determining your location), so it seems probable that Apple's database still shows your router as being in the former location. You may need to find a friend with an iPhone and have him/her connect to your WiFi router to update Apple's database to your new location.
If your iPad is a WiFi+Cellular model and it's still showing the old location, though, then something else is amiss. Post back and we'll go from there.

Help. My old @us.army.mil email address was terminated by the army. I used that address to register my first apple id account on my iPad. I can't remember my original Apple ID number and if I ask to reset my password, Apple sends the reset link to my old non-working email address. I have a new gmail address and a new Apple ID number associated with that address. How do I get my iPad to use my new gmail address and new apple ID number? Remember, I can't log out of my old account because I can't remember the password. Amd Apple will only reset the password by sending a link to my old, non functioning army email account. ( I hate army webmail for canceling all retired military email accounts). John Marc

Business address points to wrong location on map

When entered into the Apple maps app, the address of my business sends my customers 15 miles away into the boonies. I have done the report a problem and moved the pin in the app NUMEROUS times over the last 6 months. Is there any way to contact someone that can actually do something about this? It is beyond frustrating for me and my customers.

Is there a way to modify the variable that windows GPO uses? In the GPO configuration window for shortcuts the target location is a drop-down menu and when you select desktop is uses the %DesktopDir% variable even though this isn't a valid.

Why is it that when I call my MIL with FaceTime I end up calling another person?

When I call my mother in law with FaceTime, I end up calling a total stranger. I use her number from my contacts and it is the right number, it works just fine if I make a regular phone call. Today, I called her and talked to her for some time and after a while we decided to switch to FaceTime. While on the phone with her, I pushed the FaceTime button on my screen, the call ended, FaceTime started and instead of my MIL it was a complete stranger that answered the call. What can I do to fix this problem?

Check to see if you have an old phone number associated with this person in your address book. When you call someone on Facetime it calls ALL numbers/emails associated with that persons contact sheet! This was my problem, this stranger has my husband's old phone number!

DSL service is only 1 mile away, how can I get Verizon to service my house?

I just bought a house. Unfortunately, before I bought it I talked with Time Warner Cable and they told me service was available. Once I moved in I called to get it hooked up, they then proceeded to tell me service is NOT available. And to get it, I'd have to pay $24,000 for them to run cable 1 mile. They say it is not profitable for them to do it, because in that stretch of one mile, there are only 12 houses, they require 24 houses per mile to justify the expense.
Verizon DSL is also 1 mile away. I called on 11/2/09 and gave them my address, as well as the closest address to me that has the service. I was told to call back with this info and ask for an engineering work order to be put in to determine the viability of stretching the service 1 mile. I was supposed to hear back on 11/5/09, but never did. The support person never gave me any reference number, and I neglected to ask for one. I guess I will try calling back today, giving all my info to see if there has been an update to my request.
Has anyone ever been successful in getting Verizon to accommodate them and their neighbors in a similar situation? Feels like a David vs. profit hungry Goliath thing going on here.

I suggest you visit DSLreports.com and put in a request with the Verizon customer service forum - it is called Verizon Direct - where real Verizon employees work to get things done in a fast and efficient manner. I have often used this service and have always received top notch service.
