E-MU 0404 USB2 : turning on causes XP Pro to crash immediately

Hello,
I've just bought a brand new E-MU 0404 USB2 and tried to install it exactly as it is written in the "Owner's Manual". When I turn on the 0404, windows XP shows me a blue screen, with some error messages concerning "emusba10.sys" and error 0x0000007E, Physical memory dumped.
Here are the details of what I did :
- I plugged the 0404 in the USB2 port of my Thinkpad and turned it on. Windows detected a new hardware, opened the wizard, and I clicked 'cancel', exactly as written in the "Owner's manual" on page 8.
- I installed the driver following the "Owner's manual" step by step.
- Then Windows XP has seen a new hardware, but was not able to install the appropriate drivers. Strange. But I got no error message during installation.
After this, I turned off everything (my thinkpad AND the 0404), and then turned the computer on. Once Windows hase finished its startup, I turned on the 0404 and after three seconds, Windows XP hangs up and shows the blue screen with some error messages concerning "emusba10.sys" and error 0x0000007E, Physical memory dumped. Then the computer immediately reboots.
If I turn on the 0404 before the laptop, the startup sequence of XP hangs up with the same blue screen, and reboots.
I'm using the following material : Thinkpad X31, Centrino 1.4Ghz, 768Mb Ram, Windows XP Professional (english) with SP2 (it was installed when I bought it), 1 hi-speed USB2 port. This configuration is higher than the minimal configuration required in the "Owner's Manual" on page 7.
I did not plugged any other USB material : the 0404 was alone and plugged directly into the hi-speed USB2 port (ie. without hub). The Intel AC'97 onboard soundcard is disabled in the control panel. The is no entry in the BIOS allowing to disable the onboard soundcard, I checked this many times.
In the control panel, I chose "Always on" and disabled all economy things in windows (well, I think so).
I installed all of the Windows XP updates and deactivated the norton anti-virus.
Could you help me ? I don't know what to do/try...

Just got my 0404 USB couple hours ago. Been having the same problem (on different hardware though), BUT the final solution that helped was going to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers and changing driver "Standart Enhanced PCI to USB host controller" to my Nvidia's one (I've got an Nvidia nForce 2 mobo). So I recommend you changing this driver to the mobo manufacturer's one.

An apple care agent walked me through the solution, and I am in backup mode now. Hopefully the problem is resolved. The fix is involves moving the existing sparsebundle on the TC disk (access via finder) into a new folder and starting a new backup in time machine, which creates a new sparsebundle. The old one can be deleted from the TC following a couple of successful backup iterations. Hope this helps and works.

USB causes Mac Pro to crash.

Hi Guys,
I've got a MacPro1,1, I have an issue with the USB on it. Now and again, when ever I eject my USB it totally locks my Mac Pro up and I have to cold reboot it (I.E turn the power off). The USB was formatted with the Mac file system, and I always make sure I eject it before removing. It's at the point of removal that it crashes.
Anyone else had this before?

Do you get any information about the crash....if you open up console and look in System Diagnostic Reports is there a Kernel Crash corresponding to the date?
I've not used an external card nor can I offer help interpreting logs but you might narrow it down to the sound card driver if that file appears somewhere in there.

After Effects CC causes Macbook Pro to crash

I have had this issue on multiple machines. About 1 out of 10 times, when I choose After Effects CC my Mac book Pro Crashes. I am running OSX Yosemite. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it with the same effect. Attached is a picture of some of my system information.

I will select Ae and the entire computer will freeze until I turn it off and back on. The message states "A graphics problem has been detected." and the usual click here to report language. This is the second computer that this has been happening to me with.

Final cut causes mac pro to crash

Hi, I have been editing hd footage on my macpro, which is only two months old, and it can't handle final cut pro or motion. It crashes constantly when ever I try to play the timeline back. The timeline is set to safeRT and it is always rendered.
Is there somthing wrong with my mac or is there somthing that I have not configured?

un YASU to purge your system from tme to time
also make sure your sequence settings match your capture presets, and your hard drive (external to your system HD I hope) is not too full (80% capacity at most)

Exporting to WMV causes Premiere Pro to crash

Hi there all,
Was wondering if you could help me here. When i export to WMV PP crashes. Now I thought i could get around this by rendering it as another file type and then using Adobe Media Encoder to code it to WMV... BUT! when i did this Adobe Media Encoder only gave me 1/2 my video!!! It too crashed!!! :-( . The video site that my work uploads to only accepts wmv unfortunatly

Can't find plugins causing AU Pro to crash on startup

To get 32-bit plugins firing on all cylinders inside Logic X i opted for the free approach which involves AU Pro. The only problem is i can't get into AU Pro because of some old buggy plugins still hanging around my computer.
It tells me which one & their file location but i cannot actually get to the file location to delete them. See below, the file location is /Library... I've un-hidden the /Library folder but navigating through the plugin path below, the /Components folder looks empty! despite AU Pro telling me that's where my problems lie.
I've tried spotlight searches etc to find anything at all on my Mac with the word 'Sonnox' or 'DeBuzzer' but they return null.
Any idea how to actually get into this folder & delete old plugin remnants?

You are looking in the wrong library....
You are looking in the User Library....
You need to look inside the System Library which is located in the root of your System drive.....
Example:
You need to look inside <System Drive name>/Library/Audio/Components
and not.... <System Drive name/Users/<Your user name>/Library/Audio/Components

A problem with E-MU 0404 USB2

I've been using E-MU 0404 USB2 for about a month. I don't know much of computers and this is my first soundcard ever.
After installing 0404 USB (with its drivers) I have encountered a problem. I use Acid 2006 and every now and then the application freezes and Windows tells me that the application (Acid) does not respond. Also when that happens I try to listen an mp3 with Windows Media Player (having closed Acid) but it (the WMP) can't playback because it says there are not any sound devices connected to the computer.
To solve this, I turn off for a while 0404 USB and then open it again. Then it's ready to playback.
Due to the above fact I have come up with the conclusion that the problem might be related with e-mu's driver.
I don't know. Does anybody know anything? Is there a compatibility problem with Acid?
I have also a few more problems but I think one at a time is best.

To be honest at present I have installed only Acid in my pc. I have also used Adobe Audition 2 , but with Adobe the problems were more rare.
With generic player software the problem has happened but very few times. For example, I wanted to hear an mp3 and I tried every single application I had (WMP, Real Time...) and it wouldn't play. I had to solve it with the way I described in the first message.
Sometimes Acid freezes or closes (by itself) when in the preferences dialog I select the e-mu's driver instead of soundmapper that is Acid's default (and at that point without having opened a project, Acid closes or freezes). With soundmapper works good until, while still in the program, I select e-mu's driver. However I have selected the e-mu's driver as default for Acid. I'll see if there is a problem with this arrangement. And this problem also happens when I do nothing else but playback or record.

What is causing my Mac to crash during the sleep mode?

I would to have your help on this situation that i am having for a month or so... Ok... it started about a month ago, I turned it on and all of the sudden, it shut down, then rebooted on its own... (actually it rebooted like 3 or 4 times before running the system) I thought that it was odd. I had my Tech to look over and see what was causing to crash and all... he could not find anything then we all decided to leave it running all time... so we did. a week or two later, it just crashed when i woke the sleep mode and it went on the usual route as crashed and rebooted two or three times before going back to normal.
sound familiar to you guys? after that happened, we turned off the sleep mode and so far, it is doing good... decided not to update the system's Security software because it may have something to cause the mac to crash down...
the mac is 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 8 Gb 667 MHZ DDR2 FB-DIMM, running on 10.6.8
appreciate your help on this.

One more thing.... it makes weird sounds as well... very high pitch sounds that you hear in movies where UFO flying by while it is doing the rebooting...

since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).

I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

Blackberry Software Consistently Causes Latest MacBook Pro to Crash

I¹ve used the Mac Blackberry desktop software for a couple of months now and
would like it on the record that this software is very temperamental. While
it upgrades my Blackberry successfully, it causes numerous crashes when it
is left up for some time (probably more than 5 minutes). I have one of the
latest MacBook Pros and am constantly running programs such as Disk Warrior
to ensure that the machine is running smoothly. The Blackberry software is
unique in that it is one of the few pieces of software that causes my
computer to crash.
Please also note, that for users using MobileMe to update their calendars,
the MobileMe calendar file cannot be read by the Blackberry updater. Thus,
another file ³On My Mac² has to be created in order to update. Please note
that I am not currently using a data plan and that my Blackberry is updated
only by plugging it directly into the computer.
Since I am able to update my Blackberry data reasonably accurately with this
software, this is currently a workable situation for me. However, if the
problems persist and the bugs in the software aren¹t resolved, I will be
more and more tempted to get rid of the Blackberry and go with something
more reliable such as the iPhone.

I have an HP Pavilion dv9843cl Entertainment Notebook PC
...and when I tried my HDMI it fails and fails badly with a Vista (64) "Blue Screen" crash, dump and system halt.
Any ideas of what may be causing this ??? ...and better yet, a fix ???

as far as i know this is caused buy the chipset settings....
i bet your nb runs in Intel right?....
Do the ff.
1. Remove the hdmi cable
2. Go to hp.com... go to support and drivers.. click download drivers and software.. put your product number.. select windows vista os 64 bit..
3. under driver chipset.. install that.... make sure you would save it to the desktop first then run it...
4. under driver graphivs install Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family Driver.. save it to teh dektop then run it..
5. under driver storage install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager
6. under bios install bios update.. it will turn off your system thus turn it back on afterwards
7. plug in the hdmi cable back.. observe it the nb wil have a blue screen again

It turns out that iCloud caused this issue. When I turned iCloud off my login screen was completely normal.

RH8 causing other apps to crash?

Hello -
I have a colleague (working in another office, so I can't really see this problem first hand) who is trying to install RH8 on a Win7/32 machine (new install, not an upgrade). A member of her IT dept is performing the install.
After the installation of the app and patches is finished, RH seems to work more or less normally (she's new to RH, so her sense of "normal" is rather limited at this stage). The problem is that other applications lock up and crash (she mentioned MS Office apps in particular, but that could be because those are the ones she tends to use the most).
After un-installing RH, the other apps no longer crash.
I've recommended re-installing but skipping the "RoboHelp for Word" piece, but I can't think of anything else.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen a similar situation? I've found other threads that deal with RH crashing or the RH install failing, but I couldn't find any in which RH caused other apps to crash.

Thanks for the suggestions. Like some of the other threads I've found, these seem to deal mainly with RH crashes rather than other apps. But your first link possibly has some overlap as the menu issue it describes also pops up in a thread I found:

This thread includes a scenario in which Outlook and other apps are failing. Additionally, some users were having RH crashes related to the menu bug. Some users found relief by uninstalling source control, others did not. Finally, An Adobe employee posted a fix that corrects issues related to Oleacc.dll which helped some users.
To be thorough, I'll mention that the problems are occurring on a laptop (another thread traced RH crashes to a BioMetric service running on their laptop). And my colleague has the FoxIt PDF utility installed (I don't think this should be the issue here, but perhaps worth a mention.)
I'm going to suggest that they try:
1a. Check the registry to ensure traces of the previous RH install are gone.
1b. Reinstall but omit source control and RH for Word (I think you can skip these during install? I'm no longer allowed to to perform my own installs, so I'm less familiar with the process than I once was.)
2. Ensure patches are installed (version should be 8.02.208)
3. If that doesn't work, try the Oleacc.dll fix.
4. If that doesn't work, try another Win7/32 machine (preferably non-laptop).
5. If all is well on the other machine, I guess it is time to start looking at which non-essential services might be causing a conflict.
