E & recovery drive is full!

Just bought a brand new HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC. I am receiving notices that my recovery drive is full and so is my E drive *HP tools*   How do I clean these off? The computer will not let me run a backup.

Hi,
You will need to stop whatever is storing or backing-up data to these partitions - although for Vista, the document on the link below should help - as it suggests, make sure that 'Restore Points' are not being created for these partitions and also that Windows Back-up is not accessing them.

  • My Recovery drive is full.

Hi guys, i just want to ask if its normal that my recovery drive is almost full(106MB free of 15.3GB). Should i clean it? Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
That does sound a bit too full - I'd expect you to have around 2Gb free space.  See if the suggestions in the document on the link below help.

  • HP Pavilion 15t-n200 (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit) -- Recovery Drive Almost Full

    Hello, Everyone:
I just set up my new HP Pavilion 15t-n200 laptop (product number E9Z18AV) yesterday.  Other than installing software for my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium printer and a free PDF Creator, I added no other software to the laptop. To my big surprise, the D drive (recovery drive) shows that I have used 22.5 GB, leaving only 2.4 GB free!
FYI, the specs for my laptop are:
    Intel Core i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHz
    12 GB system memory
1T hard drive (of which 856 GB is free)
I would appreciate any advice or guidance from forum members to resolve this issue.
    Thank you.

That is how it is shipped. The D: drive is static. It is only used for making restore disks or restoring the system so there is no need to leave free space. The drive that is dynamic (i.e. stuff is being added) is the C:\ drive. You should have lots of space there.

  • My Recovery Drive is Full, How do I clean it up? (HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO)

Hi, I'm not too comfortable with messing around with the inner workings of my computer, but the Recovery Hard Disk Drive has been slowly filling up for a while now. It is just about full and I was wondering if there was any way for me to clean it up/restore it without messing up my programs and files? I did it once before, but I can't remember how and I'm too scared to mess with it without some kind of instruction.
I have a USB hard drive for making back ups that I use now as a precaution if something goes wrong with cleaning the Recovery Disk.
My computer is a HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook PC running on  Windows 7.
If someone could give me some advice, that would be wonderful.

    Hi,
See the HP document on the following link regarding this issue - although the document refers o Vista, it also applies to Windows 7.

  • My recovery drive is not visible in my hp pavilion g6-2137tx

My problem is very big. I installed ubuntu alongside with windows 7.For that ubuntu created a special drive of  83 gb. After installing ubuntu my recovery drive was just shownig some text files but the recovery drive was full and still there..
so i decided to delete ubuntu so i went to disk management and formated that 83 gb partition but after that my laptop was not able to boot...It was not starting and just showed an error" no such partition".So i installed windows 8  from a disk. After the installation recovery partition is missing and it is not visible on "my computer".I think that i still have my recovery drive because my total partion is 463 gp and since my laptop is equiped with 500gb hard disk. Is there any way so that i can recover my partition and get back to original windows 7 which came with my laptop in the begining..
    pls help

    HI mohit12393,
    Thank you for your query.
Reo is correct, your Recovery Manager was wiped when you  installed from the disk.  You do have the option to use your Windows restore, for your backups. Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)    You can also use third party software, to create an ISO image, which could be  used to restore the computer, back to the time you created the image Here are some examples of ISO backup software.ex amples of ISO burning software.

  • Low Disk Space Recovery Drive D

My computer is an hp G60 121WM, which is Vista Home Premium running windows Vista 32 bit OS.  I messed up while in 'backup and restore' and sent the backup to the partitioned drive (D) used for system recovery.  Is there any way to access this drive or remove the mess I sent there?  It won't let me in by the simple route of trying to open it from the 'computer' dialog.  I can't use backup and restore now, and every time I boot up the computer I get the message that I have low disk space in drive D.  It's not a real problem (so far), but is very irritating.  And if I ever do need to do a restore (back to a previous automated backup) I'll be unable to do that.  I'll appreciate any help from more seasoned users.  Thanks
ps.  I don't quite understand why hp recovery drive being full impacts windows backup and restore, so the problem with that may be coincidental.  You tell me.  As you can see, I'm not well versed in computer use!

A useful utility for viewing all the files on your PC is called Free Commander, on the link below, as it displays folders that the Operating System normally hides and has a good search function.
    http://www.snapfiles.com/php/download.php?id=107872&a=7122339&tag=601108&loc=10
This is a zipped file.  If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.
When installed, launch Free Commander, click the D partition in the toolbar and look for any files that obviously don't belong here, cut them out and paste to a location of your choice on the C Partition.
After doing this, make sure that Windows Backup and Restore is directed to a new location.

  • Recovery drive (d) too full??

The storage capacity of my recovery drive (d) shows that it is almost full with 14.7 GB used space with a total capacity of 16.7 GB. This only leaves me with just over 1 GB remaining. Is this normal to be so full? If not, how can I remove un-needed data drom this drive? Also, how does this data get accumulated? I have searched all the recovery options I can think of and can't seem to find anything that might be causing my system to be performing backups to recovery that I have not programmed. I have cleared System Restore to just the most recent point. Cleaned System files, disk cleanup, etc. The D drive shows that it has been compressed to save space
I have 64bit HP Pavillion Desktop, running Windows 7 Premium. My C drive conversly has 37 GB of used space with 411 GB of free space remaining. I'd appreciate anyone shedding some light on this for me. For all I know, this condition may be completely normal.

    eyemchase,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
Don't worry about it.  Do not add anything, delete anything, or edit anything in Recovery.
The Recovery Partition is best and happy the way it is.
Recovery is used to restore your computer should it fail; the partition has within it all the tools necessary to rebuild the main Operating System the way it was when the computer was new and clean.
What is the Recovery (D Hard Drive?
    Commentary
Unless you really need to, I recommend that you do not remove the Recovery partition, that is, do not delete it.  Sometimes people do this after having made their Recovery discs (you have made your Recovery backups, right?) -- and then, these same people regret having removed the partition later.  Sometimes people delete the partition by accident before having  made their Recovery backups.  Sad.

  • HP recovery drive "D" nearing full.

I recently installed a 500mb SSD drive in place of my old hard drive.  I did a system restore to factory oringinal.  After doing this I noticed the recovery drive "D" partition was almost full and in red. I deleted the restore points and that took the "D" drive back to green/blue.  How do I redirect the recovery points to another drive so I don't get the same problem? Or, is there another solution?

Hi, Windows should not be creating System Restore points for the Recovery D partition, so you can just turn this feature off for that particular partition.  See the document on the following link for a walk through on this procedure. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03736755 Regards, DP-K

  • My recovery D drive is full.

A window keeps popping up lately, saying my recovery D drive is full.  Can I remove anything that doesn't belond
there, and what would those things be?  Maybe accidentaly back up files?

When installed, run the program, click on the D Partition in the Toolbar and look for any file that obviously shouldn't be there.  Norton backup has been known to save files here.  If you are unsure, post a screenshot of the contents of this partition.

  • Can I restore Yosemite Public beta from Time Machine with Mavericks bootable recovery drive

I had Yosemite beta running on an SSD in my Mac Book Pro. This drive has failed and is no longer recognized. I do have a Time Machine backup of this drive. When I restored it to a new SSD it would not boot.(formatted to MAC OS Extended (Journaled) with a single GUID partition)  I do not have a Yosemite recovery drive. My question is, can I boot to the SSD using the Mavericks recovery USB drive and do a full restore of my Yosemite drive from Time Machine? I am unable to re-download the Yosemite beta as my code has already been redeemed.

Yes, this did work. I booted to the Mavericks recovery drive and pulled the backup off of Time Capsule and resolved the issue.

  • Can i delete my recovery drive and create a new one? (HP Envy m6 ko25dx)

Hi, I have an HP envy m6 ko25dx that I had some issues upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1. I was getting stuck at a black screen on start up. I had to contact HP support by phone and they ended up sending me a flash drive with factory recovery data. When I went through the process of getting my computer working again, one of the steps affected the recovery partition on drive D: to store the data from the flash drive in order to proceed. I finished the process and got my computer back to Windows 8. After completing that, I now have a problem. When clicking on file explorer, the D: drive shows as almost full but when I click on it to view files, it says "this folder is empty" . When I go to computer management-storage-disk management, I have 2 recovery drive D:'s. One shows NTFS for file system, while the other has a blank and they are both 11% free (89% full). Also, there are 3 other un-named volumes; 2 have a status of "healthy (recovery partitions)" and 1 has a status of "healthy (EFI system recovery)". Those un-named volumes are a total of 1,100 mb's (1.1 gb) and they are each 100% free. The only thing that shows when i right click all of those volumes, D and un-named, is help and when I click that, it is in fact, not helpful. When I right click the C: drive, it shows: open, explore, mark partition as active, etcetera... Is there a way for me to access and move the un-named volumes back to C:? And is there a way for me to delete the D: drive data and re-create the recovery data from this point?  A week ago I dared to try upgrading from 8 to 8.1. During the process it was recommended that I create a recovery set but was unable to so due to the full D: drive and the fact that i didn't have an external storage large enough. I decided to update the drivers and proceed without creating the recovery set or creating a volume large enough from the space I have on C:. When the computer was done with installing and updating everything it could, it got stuck on a black screen again, this time with the cursor and the ability to access the task manager with Ctrl+Alt+Del. I had to use that to manually download the Windows 8.1 drivers since it wasn't possible to do it from 8. 8.1 is now working. I keep getting warnings about D: being so full and I understand having a nearly full drive affects computer performance. If more information is needed, please let me know. Thanks for reading if you made it this far!

    All the "drives" you see are part of Windows 8 and HP's factory installation. The recovery partition is designed to return the computer to a factory like state and nothing more. You cannot delete the D: drive "HP Recovery" partition and recreate an updated recovery image. The following image shows the factory installed partitions on my HP 13 Split x2;

  • My hard drive is full, and it will not let me delete anything... :(

hello, so here is the story...
i bought my iMac about a little more than half year ago and i really like this mac. About 3 months ago, my computer started popping up me hard drive is full messages, and i did not really bother to delete any files. Because i have been using computers before this one, and i have never used up all the spaces before and the computer i have used before had even smaller hard drives. At the time i did not think it is going to effect my usage of this computer so i kept on using it. After about a month, while i was using my computer, it suddenly shut down and when i restart it my desktop is a plain blue background, with no wallpaper or any icons. Then i tried to delete some files, but when i try to do so, i can not even open up my applications or any kind of window. The only thing that i can open is safari, so right now i can only serve the internet, can not even watch any videos or movies online...
can anyone tell me how to delete files right now, because my hard drive is so limited right now, i can not even open up anything, so there is no way to delete any files

In all your use of computers, did you learn how to recover your backups and have a good backup strategy in place?
Or are you going to need help now on backups, recoverying files (already some good threads to just re-read), and rebuild your hard drive.
For starters you will need one or more external drives, and install OS X on one of them and use one or part of one for recovering files.
You should be able to free up space. Just go to your home account folder / library / caches and trash anything to do with Safari like Metadata cache folder to free up a little.
You don't need to "open" anything other than Finder. And you probably want to boot with SHIFT KEY at the least on startup - continue to hold shift key until you hit the desktop.
But you really should not or limit any use of this hard drive, and work from and boot from another hard drive for now.

  • HP Pavilion Laptop: Unable to open files, error message and "Recovery" drive appeared

My fairly new HP Pavilion AR5B1425 laptop suddenly displays a big red x and an error message "documents.library-ms (or whatever file I'm trying to access) is no longer working" and is displaying a "recovery" drive listed as "D."  My kids were using my computer, and hubby thinks they inadvertently reset my hard drive or something.  Any ideas?

    Hey reedmiarecki,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
With the error message that you are getting, your only option would be to do a factory reset of your computer. If you do need assistance on how to complete a factory reset of your computer, please provide me with the full model number. This will allow me to provide you with specific steps. If you need assistance in finding the model number, please take a look at the following document Guide to finding your product number.
