E-Tester Script Programming Interface Reference Guide - question
Hello,
I just came across this question posted as a Comment for this Knowledge Base document http://qazone.empirix.com/entry.jspa?externalID=34&categoryID=18, so I am adding it to the Forums for additional visibility and replies

To get the current workspace in a Job Scheduler job I used the following code from the reference
Private Sub ThisJob_JobBegin()
Dim location
location = application.currentResult.workspace
End Sub
As a result the value of the variable location changed from Empty to "".
What can be the reason for this failure?
We had a similar problem. You actually need to do this in job end or script end event. The application.currentResult object does not have any data until the end of a test.
I hope this is helpful.

Question of SAP Methodology of Implementation esp. System Testing and Test Script
Dear SAP Member,
As a very new and inexperienced customer to the SAP and the business. My company is preparing for the retail shop establishment which part of the preparation includes SAP implementation.
At first, we strongly believe SAP can fit and serve our business need well. Also, the standard methodology of implementation will be able to deliver the system with expected quality. However, the local implementor disappoint my firm with poor quality delivery and control that result in the perception of uncertainty of the system to be lived.
The methodology proposed by the implementor composed with
1) Preparation
2) Blueprint
3) Realization
a) Program development and unit test by vendor
b) Training
4) Final Preparation
a) Integration test by Users
b) Data conversion preparation
5) Go-Live and Support
My problem comes up with phase 4-5
Problem 1: Unit/functional test performed by implementor . For this activities, how could customer ensure that every single function has been developed or implemented according to the requirement and without error?
Problem 2: Vendor provides slot for integration test for 7 days. Is it normal practice that test can be done within this short period?
Problem 3: Does SAP methodology has the standard quality control, test enter and exit criteria and issue/incident management?
Problem 4: How should the standard test script look like? What i received from implementor was like functional list rather than script.
Problem 5: what should be step for conversion apart from the data preparation by users? The local implementor does not explain/elaborate the detailed activities.
Last but not least, as the customer do not satisfy with the SAP partner (local implementor quality). What should be the process for feedback as to prevent other new customer to face the same problem?
SKSK,
Thamil has given his view. Here is another.
how could customer ensure that every single function has been developed or implemented according to the requirement and without error?
If this is an issue to you, you can insist that members of your test team participate in unit testing. You are, after all, the client, and it is your money being spent. As long as you can furnish testers, who are competent to evaluate unit testing scenarios, you can have them work with the vendor during unit testing.
Vendor provides slot for integration test for 7 days. Is it normal practice that test can be done within this short period?
It depends on what is being implemented. I have seen implementations which contained over a hundred test scenarios and over 2000 test scripts; each of which must be tested by multiple functional groups. 1 week is not enough to complete Integration testing in this case.
Also remember that it is necessary to allow time to correct 'bugs' found during integration testing, and then to re-test after the bugs are fixed. Except in the simplest of implementations, 1 week may not be enough to accommodate the bug fixes and retests.
Does SAP methodology has the standard quality control, test enter and exit criteria and issue/incident management?
Which 'SAP methodology' are you talking about? Bottom line, the client must insist that the vendor incorporate any methodologies that are required for his business. Don't assume that your vendor will automatically bring these items to the table, YOU may have to bring them to the table.
How should the standard test script look like? What I received from implementer was like functional list rather than script.
????? It should look like whatever you want it to look like. Many companies have existing templates. If your company doesn't have such a template, ask your vendor for one. Go over it together with him and make appropriate modifications that meet your business requirements.
what should be step for conversion apart from the data preparation by users? The local implementer does not explain/elaborate the detailed activities.
It is impossible to say at the beginning of the project. Sometime during realization, the client and the vendor will jointly develop a detailed cutover plan. More importantly, the client will develop a change management plan for the client company, in which all stakeholders in the client company will come to understand how and when ALL of the client's business processes will need to change, and to develop plans for all affected groups.

Question on F.R.I.C.E.and test scripts
hi all,
i am knew to SAP and i heard the word FRICE from the people who are working in implementation projects
so that i want to know what is mean by FRICE and who will do it....?
and how much effort i need to put on it, for my 1st project.......
and who will prepair it means either functional consultent or technical guy....?
what is the use with test scripts adn who will make it.....
i dont have any experiance on any project like support or implementation... i fresher to the SAP
so plz help me......
thanks in advance.....?
regards,
gunnuHI
Its majorly a ABAP Development. And also its depends on client requirements ans may vary from client to client.
FRICE
F- FORMS: These include SapScripts and SMARTFORMS.
R- REPORTS: These include classical reporting and interactive reporting.
I- INTERFACES: These include ALE/EDI. Both of these interact with SAP R/3 using Idocs.
C- CONVERSIONS: These include BDCs and LSMWs. Uplodaing data into SAP R/3 is usually called a conversion. Think Direct transfer workbench (DXWB) also comes under this category.
E- ENHANCEMENTS: These include User-exits and BADIs. They provide the hooks to alter the standard SAP functionality. BADIs are again object oriented implementation of User-exits.

How to use the RFC SDK as part of a QTP test script
Hi there,
after having recorded some business transactions, I want to insert some checks into the QTP test script: an easy example would be an existence check in a database table. Instead of recording a SE16 or SE16N, I would find the approach much more elegant and much more efficient to use a (VB-)programmed RFC call for this purpose.
Unfortunately, I didn't find a way to address an RFC using the actual connection that QTP is working on. Creating a new connection would probably be possible but is not what I want.
Any idea how I could proceed? Does anybody else have experiences in this area?
I think this issue is not restricted to QTP but shared by any tool working on top of the SAP GUI Scripting API.
Thanks and regards

how it works
As all three of us indicated you use array notation for this
type of
requirement. In ColdFusion you can use array notation or dot
notation
to access structure data. Almost all data in ColdFusion is
now some
type of structure.
I.E. #Form['myField']# is the same as #Form.myField#.
The advantage is that with array notation you can do things
you can not
do with dot notation. You can reference elements that have
keys that
are illegal variable names such as one with a space.
I.E. #url['my field'] is allowed, #url.my field# would fail
or course.
And you can concatenate the key string as we did with your
example.
I.E. #Form['aString' & aVariable]#
There are many powerful things one can do with this
knowledge. One can
access record sets with array notations. This can allow for
very
sophisticated parsing of a record set.
I.E. #myQuery['column'][row]#
You can dynamical call a variable. Thus creating dynamic code
that does
not even need to know what variables exist until run time.
I.E. #variables[anyName]#
This just scratches the surface. -
How to use Labview 7.0 to make program interface?
Hellow!
Will Labview 7.0 be able to make the program interface? just like some application software made by VC++,VB?
The program interface should have the menu,button,...
Thanks! You can use LV to create a fully working program with an interface of your design, just like you would in any other compiler. LV actually serves as a compiler for a graphical language called G, which is based on dataflow instead of text based execution (the data "flows" through wires from one function to the next, controlling execution order and filling the role of variables).
Since LV is multiplatform (and not MS), its default controls are not identical to those in VC and VB, but those can be accessed to. Actually, in many ways, it's much easier to build an interface in LV, because building the interface actually defines your "variables" and your interaction with the code.
An interface would be no good without a program, so you will have to know how to use LV. It's much faster to learn than other languages, but you will still need some experience to write good programs.
To learn more, I suggest you start by reading the LabVIEW user manual. Also, try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide.
If your question was only about MS buttons, like in VB and VC, you can find them in the Dialog Controls palette, or you can use ActiveX to embed them into your program.

Hi Team,
Kindly can you let em know what is the difference between Test Scripts and Test cases with example if possible.
Regards,
VimalHi Vimal,
A test case is a set of conditions or variables under which a tester will determine if a requirement or use case upon an application is partially or fully satisfied. It may take many test cases to determine that a requirement is fully satisfied.
Test cases are often incorrectly referred to as test scripts. Test scripts are lines of code used mainly in automation tools.
Test script
A test script is a short program written in a programming language used to test part of the functionality of a software system. A written set of steps that should be performed automatically can also be called a test script, however this is more correctly called a test case.
Any test that is written as a short program is regarded as an automated test. Test scripts written as a short program can either be written using a special manual functional GUI test tool or in a well-known programming language (such as C++, C#, Tcl, Expect, Java, Perl, Python, or more recently, Ruby). Automated test tools can test many areas of system functionality such as the user interface, performance of the system, the system code and the requirements.
Automated testing has the advantage over manual testing in that it is easily repeatable, and thus is favoured when doing regression testing. This however is not always the case as automated tests may be poorly written and can break during playback. Since most systems are designed with human interaction in mind, it is good practice that a human tests the system at some point.
Test Script defines the actions and pass/fail criteria. For example, if the action is "to enter a valid account number," the expected result is that the data are accepted. Entering an invalid number should yield a particular error message.
Award Points accordingly.

Hi All,
We are going to develop an interface that will import some data from a third party system to GL.
For this Im required to design some functional test scripts.
01) What are functional test scripts
02) Further let me know how do develop functional test scripts, since I am new to this area.Further let me know if this involve any technical areas, since Im a functional person. Is there a way to get sample test scripts
The way I have tested these interface programs is by getting a sample data file and transfer them to relevant application. In that process I identify the issues or error resolve them till I get the desired result. But I havent ever gone through a formal procedure in testing, such as developing functional test scripts.
Please explain.
Thanks,
MPHFunctional test involves making sure the functionality of the overall application works fine.
So in your case, it will involve making sure the interfaced file works well with all types of accounts, that a trial balance can be generated.
It may also involve error handling in case some records in the file error out. In that case, proper notifications should be sent out.
Since you are using an interface/api, the functional testing need not be very complicated.
Hope this helps,

Error opening a Test Script inUFT from Solution Manager
This error is the subject of a call with SAP and HP but I wondered if anyone else has come across this problem.
We work with Solution Manager 7.1 (SP11) and HP's UFT 11.53 to create automated testing. We ustilise the two free seat licences for UFT that are provided via enterprise support. We do not use HP's Quality Centre.
On some occasions when trying to open a test script for editing UFT tries to open and then closes again. The error message below is displayed in solution manager.
“External Test Tool Quick Test Professional Is Busy and Cannot Create a New Test Script”
When this happens the local cache files are wiped. We have managed to salvage some of these scripts by pasting in copies of the cache file from another PC but some we had to recreate from scratch. If you don't have one already create a gateway instance on your Content Server.
Change or create the RFC destination : SAPKPROTP type = T
Check the radio button to start on Expicit Host
Enter the program = c:\winnt\sapkprotp.exe
Enter target host - use the hostname of the server for your Content Server
Enter the Gateway information

Hi guys,
Ive done everything suggested and my PS is still crashing. I will attatch my crash report to see if it helps with anything. I used Font Doctor and Font Book to check for bad fonts and removed the two that came up. Tried again and still nothing. What should I do now? I really need to use the type tool for a project Im working on. I can edit pictures and use the program just fine up until the point I hit the type tool. I try to run the font test script I found here on the website and the program crashes before the scrip starts running. Its getting a little frustrating.

Also, sometimes you need to restart the machine after removing bad fonts because apps can hang onto the fonts while they are open.
There is nothing more we can do on the Photoshop side - this is an aknowledged Apple bug, that we cannot avoid (it even happens sometimes when we aren't touching type code directly, because other OS code touches the type code). -
[JS,CS3/4] ANN: JavaScript Reference Guide
Looking for the JavaScript Reference Guide for CS3 or CS4? Adobe no longer offers separately downloadable documents, as they did for previous versions; instead, it's all integrated in the ExtendScript Toolkit Editor. Just look under 'Help', then choose a program. Not using the ESTK? Or perhaps you just want a prettier display ... :-)
So I reformatted the reference guides into fancy HTML, and I was even able to wring some additional information out of it, such as more comprehensive hyperlinks, a full index, and -- the best feature! -- a visual Hierarchy of each object and its place in the application.
The HTML version works with any web browser, but full text searching may be difficult. Windows users are advised to download the CHM (Compiled HTML) version, which offers free full text search, as well as a comprehensive Table of Contents and an index.
Available for CS3 and CS4, from http://www.jongware.com/idjshelp.html
"You can copy it but you cannot top it."There is no limit of improvement, isn’t it?
I'm rapidly approaching the limits of XSLT. I thought it a good idea to insert both JS Base guide and ScripyUI into the main reference guide. Unfortunatly, when I did, generating the links, contents, and index broke spectacularly. So I decided to cheat and just paste the XML source files together. Now some objects are duplicated, courtesy of the ScriptUI (Window, Button, Panel .. maybe some more). I decided to just append "(SUI)" to those names.
Fortunately, there are two enhancements to be savoured as well:
A version number :-) It's at the bottom left of each page
The 'any' classifier is now written out in full, with the acceptable values. For example, "Swatch merge (with: {Array of Swatches | Swatch | String} )" instead of just "(with:any)"
The CS4/CHM version on the web page is updated; the HTML version will follow some time later.
[Edit] It's now some time later, the CS4 HTML version is updated, and the CHM version as well. The version number has gone from 2.1 to 2.1.1 because of a few boo-boos and slightly more links. -
Coded UI test script works in VS2010 but not in VS2012.
I have a test script for an application that adds 3 part numbers (i.e., rows) to a table displayed on the AUT web page. Each row in the table also contains an
HTMLInputButton called View Audit Trail. The purpose of the test script is to select the correct button, which then calls up the
Audit Details page for the selected part number. The code used in the test script driver is as follows (the same code is used for clicking on either an action button or a hyperlink contained within a table):
case "ClickTableItem":
// Note: An input example would be
03-0024-0-0001:Button>View Audit Trail

In VS2010, the correct button is always selected, and the correct audit page always appears. In VS2012, though, the correct button is always selected, but the green progress bar speeds across the screen and the test crashes, even though the message
log records the correct action. (It crashes because it can't find the verification information that the correct page was displayed, seeing as the correct page doesn't appear.) If I manually re-open the application, the table containing the added
part numbers is still displayed, and I can click on the appropriate View Audit Trail button and go to the correct audit page.
What really has me stymied, though, is that the script actually passed twice. Both times, though, either VS, the test script, or the app itself hiccupped, and only added 2 of the 3 part numbers to the table. As always, the correct button was
selected, but in these two cases the audit screen actually appeared, so the rest of the test passed successfully.
I've tried removing one of the part numbers, but the script still failed despite once again selecting the correct button. The first thing I thought of was re-mapping the web page objects using VS2012, but it turned out that they have the same properties
as with VS2010. Unfortunately, it didn't help. I've also tried changing the following parameters:
HtmlInputButton to HtmlButton
<PropertyCondition Name="ControlType">Button</PropertyCondition> to
btn
<PropertyCondition Name="Type">button</PropertyCondition> to
submit
<PropertyCondition Name="Class">PageButton</PropertyCondition> to
Button or btn
The only other thing unique is that the AUT for the VS2010 test script uses a different login screen than the AUT for VS2012 (different URLs for the login screens). Other than that, though, once the login screens are passed, the web pages accessed
are identical (i.e., the same URL).
Has anyone else run into a similar situation?Hi Jack,
Here is the applicable part of the error log. Unfortunately, it doesn't explain why the Audit page doesn't appear when you click on the View Audit Trail button. It only fails because it can't find the Return To Search button (which makes sense,
because the page wasn't opened). As you can see, I stuck a 60-second Wait step (Step 14) to see if the page would eventually appear, but it didn't.

Test Script Status: FAILED 'Test_Click_Table_Item': Execution Time: 00:02:03.7293717
The calling page is given a specific key value (M&E Part Number) which identifies the table row containing the correct
View Audit Trail button to select. The key for this test is
03-0024-0-0001, indicating that the test is to select the
View Audit Trail button in the third row of the table.
Without fail, the correct button is selected. Selecting this action button is
supposed to call the appropriate Audit page.
While there have been several test runs where the correct audit page does get displayed, most of the test runs will
not display the page, even though a significant Wait period has been inserted to allow the application additional time to process the page request.
I tried to attach the screen shots of the two pages in question, but wasn't allowed to because apparently my account hasn't been verified. If I can upload them or email them somewhere else, let me know and I'll give it a shot. -
Some one please let me know what a test script is.....and how it is written...I need to write it for the HR modules....This is in context with support stacks being applied to SBX. ...and for testing that....Please also let me know if it is the responsibility of a functional consultant....

Anu RajagopalHi,
normally a test script contains information like; logical steps per given situation (input), per step an expected result (output), pre-conditions for execution of the test script, reference to requirement / design document. A separate area for test script final result incl. name of tester and sign-off the test result is required. The test script can only be marked as passed if all logical steps are finished succesfull according to the expected result(s).
(example: [Input] Go to menu x, click on y; [output] y runned succesfully)
The test-script is used to examine whether the system displays the desired behaviour under specific (in your case HR specific) circumstances.
And (from my point of view) a functional consultant can be responsible for test script creation and execution. It depends on (test-) organization.
Best regards,
Maurice
