E1 and leased line.

Hi All,
Can we say E1 an a leased-line is both are same / any difference is there.
If my company take E1 from one Service Provider then how can we get Internet, from where shall I took this service.
Experts can anybody see about it.
Regards,
Naidu.

Leased lines (LL) are available with a wide range of bandwidth starting from Kbps to high speed Mbps lines. E1/T1 are a part of it.
They can be either used to connect sites within intranet or to connect directly internet. Internet leased lines can be again be categorised as dedicated LL to a specific organisation or shared LL between a No. of companies.
So, the criteria of selection would be Bandwidth & Internet LL or intranet LL.

  • E1 Link and Leased Line

    Dear Professional,
My existing customer wants to use the existing leased lines as a backup and use the new 4 E1 lines (bundled) as an active links to their current VOIP network.
Any suggestion and sample config is a big help and appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Currently, my customer has an existing VOIP network. They have around 22 different sites and connected via leased lines. In the main sites, they have 2 3660 routers and the 22 remote sites are distributed to these routers accordingly for load balancing. The routing protocol they are using is OSPF.
Since they requirements are increasing they decided to expands and upgrade the existing 3660 routers to 7609 router, while the existing leased lines will upgrdae to E1 links, some of the sites with low requirements will use the same links and those sites with higher demands will upgrade to E1, but the customer are insisting to keep the existing leased lines as backup and the new E1 links as the active.
    Thank you and regards

  • Metro E'net vs Lease Line

Hi, I want to use Metro E'net and
Leased Line effectively within 4 campus
All the centers are having L2/L3 Switches and routers & WAN Links are running on OSPF as on date.
    Existing Setup (2500 Desktops + 250 Servers)
    1. Seperate Network ID / Internet connections / Servers for all places
    2. Seperate VoIP PBX for all the places (This will work for IP / Trunks over WAN)
    3. Seperate WAN Links for Connecting Different offices
    4. Seperate Adminstrators for all the places
    5. Seperate VLAN/VTP Server/Clients
    6. Seperate Firewall for all the places
    After Commisioned the Metro E'net,
    Option: 1
    1. Will Metro E'net be reliable having a single vendor ? If not, do we need to get from second vendor also ?
    2. Can i merge all in to single network ?? Will this is reliable ???
    3. Can we use VLAN/VTP information over Metro E'net ?? If so, is that secured ?? If not, to secure what needs to be done?
    4. All the L2/L3 become VTP Server and rest all switches become Client mode
    5. Can we forward VoIP Traffic over Metro E'net ?? (For IP we can propogate for Trunks required only WAN.. How do we do that?
    6. Will Metro E'net can be used for L2 and L3 Functionality ? (If not, is it possible for split 8 MB to 4MB for 6 MBPS for L2 and 2 MBPS for Routing ?
    7. Will QoS can be enabled on Metro E'net ?
    8. Can we forward all the centers Internet traffic to single center?
If the above case is worked out, we will not use Leased circuit at all.
    Option:2
    1. Metro E'net will be used for VLAN/VTP's only
    2. All the L2/L3 Becomes VTP Server and others will have Client Mode
    3. routing will be used for Routers
Please advise which is good for a Corporate network and how can we impliment

  • Cable vs Leased Line which is better

Looking for info on what service would be better to use. I'm controlling 18 sewer pump station with radios now but want to make it faster and do some real times. At this point i'm polling each location once a minute and i want to see it in realtime.

We have worked for two seperate customers where we installed ethernet modems on lease lines and connect to the remote PLC's using a Modbus driver and selecting Modbus ethernet mode and  have had good luck with that.  The poll rates we have set are between 1 to 3 secs.  The server on one site currently is looking at 9 sites.
We had some situations where the lease lines were being abandoned so we have now switch most of the sites to wireless ethernet radios and are having excellent results.
We have not tried cable but using the radios and ethernet have worked well.  Previous to the conversion to ethernet modems we were using serial modems.  With the serial modems we needed to transfer all the data to a master PLC and then have Lookout Poll the master PLC.  The poll times there were longer due to the nature of the polling updates.

  • Which is better lease line or VPN??

Hi..I need to connect 10 sites with no web portal, public users...which is better between lease line or VPN ..is there a need of firewall?...Does VPN also covers the L4-L7 securities ??..should I go for lease line or VPN ??
When I go for VPN, still there is a need of Firewalls to provide the L4-L7 securities if Web servers are there ...??
    Please suggest me ..
    Regards,
    -Sanjeev

Yes for sure VPNs and firewalls are complementary technologies and both are required on most networks. To simplify you could acquire a UTM box that could offer you all this on the same hardware unit, resulting in reducted TCO.
Leased lines vs. other medium discussion is not about the 'better' or worse. You have to balance between reliability/availability and COST. A properly desgined MPLS VPN (ISP) could offer a pretty decent uptime (just make sure you have an appropriate SLA with the ISP).

  • Options for QoS on 2 meg PPP lease line.

    Hi,
I have a 2 meg PPP data lease line bet my HO and BO. I need to know the Qos options, I can configure to run voice over the same link. I want to reserve 384K to voice traffic.
Will auto qos be of any help ?

This may help you. Multilink PPP for fragmentation and LLQ will give you what you need.

  • Load balancing with Serial Leased Lines & Etherdrops

This problem is a unique one.
I have 6 Internet Leased Lines of 2 Mbps each. Keeping in view of the increasing thirst for Bandwidth, I ordered Etherdrops for the ease of on the fly upgrade, as & when needed.
To my surprise, when these Etherdrops were terminated on router, there was no trafic flowing over these etherlinks. I had to forcefully put traffic on these links using PBR.
I want to use all my links i.e. 6 serial + 2 etherlinks for per packet load-balancing.
    can some1 help.
    Regards,

    Hi
are you running any routing protocols with your ISP ?
also you can have a max of 6 equal cost route in routers.
Thats the reason i feel you are unable to use the etherdrops.
Y dont u think off going on upgrading the E1s into Fiber and take them as single ethernet output or a E3 output ?

  • How does BT leased line work?

I mean, BT Infinity is Exchange, Cabinet then to your home but the line between the cabinet then exchange is obviously shared with other users. Is BTs leased lines a fibre optic line straight from the exchange into your home? And can you even have BT leased line foir a home or is it only for a business

You can get a fibre optic leased line from many ISP's prepared you are willing to pay the price.
Due to the cost per year it is only usually companies who have them. They are totally different to residential FTTP or FOD offerings have a different SLA and provide minimum guaranteed service.
A simple Google search for "fibre optic leased line" will lead you to the companies that provide them.
Be prepared to pay thousands for the install and yearly cost. If you have money to burn it is the way to go.

  • Metro Ethernet vs Leased line

    Guys,
I'm setting a proposal for WAN link. there will 2 option, 45 MB leased line and 100 Metro ethernet. I need to know what is the pro/cons for this 2 technology as i need to explain to the customer.
Do anybody have a link or explaination on this?
    Thanks
    Rezzo

    WAN vs Metro
    1) Future BW Expansion : Metro-E BW expansion is as very easy compared to adding leased circuits to the WAN.
    2) Service levels : Since Metro-E is a service it has better service levels than a traditional WAN link.
    3) Finally Cost: In most cases the BW cost derived per Leased Circuit to that of Metro-E Link is higher in most places.
What may make the choice of WAN more practical is the availability of WAN only and no Metro service in a area.
Plus if the customer is not at all comfortable with a shared infrastructure link like Metro-E.

  • 1Mbps leased-line

We are having a 1Mbps leased-line, i want to know, what kind of technology that can be. Thank you in advance.

    Hi ,
Leased line( WAN tech.) is nothing but permanent path to reach the destination. It is a dedicated line which has a bandwidth limit of 1 Mb in your case.
Telecom personal will take care of these
    leased lines and ISDN lines.
Usually the setup will be as follows for leased line.
    RTR A(Seraill)--V35 modem -----G703modem (local exchange) -------------G703 modem (remote exchange)--------V35 modem ---(serial)RTRB.
Most of the organization will use either leased line or ISDN as a back up for the primary leased line.
    Thanks,

  • From leased line to individual laptops

execuse my ignorance , I need help .
I ordered a leased line to my building , will be available in 3 months , I wonder what equipments I need to allow my tenants log to internet using wireless connection from the leased line , I have no idea about the equipments needed , I highly appreciate your advice and sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

You don't want to do this with Linksys devices. Linksys is for consumers. Providing a wireless network with Linksys devices for 40-60 clients which all most likely expect a certain quality of that wireless service may be possible if you know really well what you do and how to handle and troubleshoot the equipment.
Otherwise I would highly suggest to look at Cisco Small Business devices. Check here https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/small-business
And honestly: considering your first post I would highly recommend to get a professional company to buy, install and operate the network for you.
If you are trying to operate it yourself I would expect that you will be busy troubleshooting complaints of your tenants during the next couple of months. Clients are picky and often you will get complaints about nothing. Some are more serious and really involve your equipment.
Thus unless your tenants don't expect anything and would happily accept even downtimes of a week or longer until you have got it fixed yourself I would really suggest you look for a company to handle this for you.
Put the costs of that company in relation to the 100s-1000s of hours you will spend the next months for choosing the right equipment, buying it, find the best locations for the access points, configuring the equipment to give each tenant a good quality connection and fare share of the available bandwidth (otherwise two people streaming videos from the internet could bring down the whole internet for all others...), troubleshooting tenant's devices and your devices, find problems, replace and RMA devices, etc. etc. etc....

  • Leased line setup

    I have a Cisco 2500 router with IOS version (C2500-I-L), Version 11.2(9.
cisco 2500 (68030) processor (revision L) with 14336K/2048K bytes of memory.
Processor board ID 07094315, with hardware revision 00000000
    Bridging software.
X.25 software, Version 2.0, NET2, BFE and GOSIP compliant.
    2 Ethernet/IEEE 802.3 interface(s)
    2 Serial network interface(s)
32K bytes of non-volatile configuration memory.
8192K bytes of processor board System flash (Read ONLY)
I have request to configure the router for leased line with speed of 128 kbps.
The serial cable v.35 is connected to its serial interface.
The provider has put the line and TA, DSU is there in the site and bot are connected.
But the router serial interface is not connected to any device is the info I got.
With this information, what is the configuration need to setup in router?
    How to configure it?
    Thank you.

    Hi
Just logon to the router and enable the port on which the leased line is connected.
Once you are connected to the router either through console or telent give no shut on the interface to enable the same.
You need to have the IP Space information from your SP side so that you can configure them on your router.
Or you need to check out the ip space which you can configure between your locations if its a point to point between your locations.
once you are done with the ip config you can verify the connectivity using normal ping command.
if you have the reqd info on your local lan address space you can configure accordingly on your ethernet interface and define the routes accordingly on your router or else a default route via the leased line will do..

  • Leased Line Redundancy

    Hi
I'm just wondering what would be the best way to implement leased line redundancy using serial connections.
I have Site A (Main) and Site B (Branch). I have two links between both but am currently only using one of these links. If link one failed I want link two to kick in.
I am currently using static routes on the routers.
I will attach a network diagram showing the current setup.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
If you want to achive only active/standby configuration then configure one router as active and other one as stanby for lan traffic going out using HSRP implementation in lan side of both the routers making gateway as virtual ip of the group for lan subnet and also configure tracking along with IP SLA so in case of failover of the link automatically the standby router will be become active for lan user as tracking will decrement the pirporty of active router.

  • Same client's address for DDR and Dedicated Line

I need a help with client's access and routing.
On my side there is a 3845 router with Async module.
Clients are of 2 types: dial-up clients and dedicated line clients. All them are authenticated on Radius (chap).
Dial-up client has a computer, they dial on Group-Async (ip unnumbered GigabitEthernet0/0) and receive ip address from pool, configured on cisco (not on Radius). Thats' work perfect.
Now about leased (dedicated) line clients. They access from cisco (mostly 2610).
On my side they have configured ip on LL interface and static routing to that ip.
If this LL connection is broken, they have DDR access (call from their cisco to my Group-Async interface, same as for dial-up_only users).
What I need is to set one (only) ip address to clients with leased line access thus, that it would work for DDR-connection as well as for LL connection.
What I tried and it was successfull is:
    interface Async1/0
    description DDR
    ip unnumbered GigabitEthernet0/0
    encapsulation ppp
    async mode dedicated
    ppp authentication chap
    interface Async1/5
    description LL
    ip address 192.168.1.134 255.255.255.252
    encapsulation ppp
    async mode dedicated
    no peer default ip address
In this case I could ping 192.168.1.133 in both LL and DDR connection.
But if only I configure Async1/0 as a member of Group-Async0, I cannot ping 192.168.1.133 (client's side), interface comes to up though.
    interface Group-Async0
    ip unnumbered GigabitEthernet0/0
    encapsulation ppp
    async mode dedicated
peer default ip address pool POOL1
    ppp authentication chap
    group-range 1/0 1/1
    ip local pool POOL1 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.11
Because cisco3845 give to client ip from pool:

One important thing is that I need to configure ip addressing for client without involving RADIUS (it will only check username and password).
Or explain me someone that its impossible and stop my sufferings...

I cannot agree more with your comments! What a way to frustrate your customers!
I have been having an issue with iCloud on Mac where it kept asking me for my password and sometimes would, sometimes would not continue to access my iCloud mail. Today it just refused to connect to iCloud mail.
I looked in the Mail, Contacts and Calendars in my MacBook Pro settings and discovered that 2 iCloud accounts were present. One with my original Apple ID (a gmail address) and a second with my new iCloud email ( an @me.com address). Having deleted the second account, using the new @me.com address everything is working fine.
So from my viewpoint when I moved over to iCloud I was asked to sign in with my Apple ID (the gmail address) then to create an @me.com address. However, as far as I can see all sign ins to the new @me.com account on Macbook, iPhone and iPad need to be done through the old Apple ID (the gmail address). Is that confusing and just plain crazy???
Further, after creating the new @me.com address I soon found out that this is apparently now forever bound to my old Apple ID and cannot be changed. I mean why can't I delete the iCloud account and start anew with a different @me.com address??? Also, as everybody using iCloud must create an @me.com address why on earth can I not get rid of my old gmail address and have my entire Apple ID accessed through the new @me.com address? Creating a whole new Apple ID will not solve this as we are unable to transfer purchases between accounts.
Apple products are great IMHO, but they do seem to not think things through in a very big way sometimes......
