E1000 Constant Resets Needed and Humming Power Adapter

Nearly every day, or recently more often, I need to restart my E1000 router.  I have a cable ISP, a wired connection to my desktop, a smartphone, Xbox 360 and laptop on wireless (although usually not at the same time).
What happens is that after some time, it will still show me connected to the router, but it will lose the connection to the Internet.  Unplugging the router and plugging it back in will restore the connection.  This has to be done at least daily, many times more often.
Possibly related to this issue is a humming power adapter.  It is a very low hum that of course goes away every time I unplug it or turn off the surge supressor.  It is possible that these two issues are related, as it may be sending too much/too little/fluctuating power to the router causing it o crash or lose the connection.
This may have been happening since I got the router, but I simply had not noticed it since up until recently I had always been plugged in to my UPS which I had turned off each day.  Had I noticed this, I would have returned it to the store.

I think you can try to reset the router and reconfigure the router. If you still face the same problem then it might be the issue with the power adapter then.

I am traveling to Russia in a few weeks and I need a good power adapter for my Mac Book Pro, iphone, and other small devices such as a shaver. I don't want to spend $40-50 on the Apple travel kit. Does anyone know of a good adapter kit or can lead me to a site. This is my first time in Europe and Russia and I will be there for 2 weeks and I plan to use my laptop, camcorder, and camera a ton.

  • New battery needed and possibly new adapter?

I have a Macbook I bought back in 2008 and I know I need a new battery. My condition says "Replace now." Recently I've noticed that the light on my charger has been going out and sometimes isn't charging the battery. Is this just because I need a new battery or do I need a new power adapter too?

    Hi LuckyLo,
there is one way to test to find out which one has the issue, the Charger cable or the Battery. or Both?
firstly if the battery says " replace now" I would recommend investing in a New Battery, if the battery icon at the top of your screen says " Not Charging " its more then likely that its down to the battery needing to be replaced ,
In regards to the Charger, You Could try removing the battery , and running the Mac from the mains cable directly ?
see if the light goes out in the same fashion without a battery being installed, then you will find out if you have an issue with that Cable its self too.
I have seen Mains cables inwhich the "little Light " is broken but they normally still charge the battery fine
    hope this was helpful
    thanks

  • Sleep and the Power Adapter...

I have been having iBook sleep problems and here is an example. working on ibook with power adapter in. i close the lid and it goes to sleep but wakes up and goes back to sleep then finally its asleep. ok i click on my mouse and it wakes up. another would be i manually go and click on the sleep option and while the lid is open it sleeps wakes sleeps wakes...finally sleeps. i close the lid click the mouse it wakes up... so i decided to reset the PMU and everything and did the same test and the same things happend. then for some reason i said let me try this with the power adapter unplugged. so i tried it and now the sleep function is perfect. i put it to sleep without the adapter and i press on the mouse and it stays asleep untilll i open it...weird but does anyone know what i could do to fix this when its plugged in? anyone else have this problem? thank you.
    iBook G4 14 inch. & Imac G4 15 Inch   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    Hello Steven,
I think the reason this is happening is just because of the mouse that is connected to the ibook. I have an external mouse that I connect to mine. When the ibook is connected to the power adapter, it will wake up if the mouse is clicked, because it is getting a signal, and therefore wakes up, then goes back to sleep (when closed) because of the switch inside the computer telling it to sleep. This also happens if you connect something to a USB port. I don't know exactly why this doesn't happen when it is not connected to the power adapter (Maybe to conserve battery power?), all I know is that it just doesn't happen.

  • My iPod Nano 4thgen only opens when connected to a pc and/or power adapter

My iPod Nano 4thGen. was brand new and I followed each and every step in the manual. I was able to connect to a computer/iTunes but after disconnecting it from the cable, the power just turns off, I pressed any key on it but failed to put the power on. I then attached it to a power adapter/charger having suspected empty battery but after I disconnected it a few hours later, the power immediately shuts down. What could've been the problem?

I have had the same problem with my daughter's IPOD nano. Spoke with several technicians to try to fix the problem to be told it was a battery problem and to send it in it was covered under warranty. Was told that it was a problem with many of the nanos. I sent it in to have it returned with 1 week stating that it had "liquid spill or submersion damage indicated by the pink/red color of liquid submersion indicator located inside headphone jack." It has not had liquid or submersion damage and I can't prove otherwise. It works only if it is attached to computer. Will not turn on unless attached to computer. Maybe I am wrong but it it has damaged by water would it still work plugged into computer. Now I am out $200.00. This frustrates my because my ipod shuffle quit working 2 months after I got it. Thats why I bought the nano thinking it was better quality.

  • I recently bought a mac book air (mid 2013) and the power adapter that came with it does not fit into the port.

The port has a small silver knob next to the pins that is preventing the adapter from connecting. I've never seen a port that looks like this and the tech specs say that the port should be a magsafe 2.  Has anyone seen anything like this before? I've included a picture

  • Where can I get accessories and power adapter for Powerbook 180c

My father just bought me second hand a Powerbook 180c. It looks to be in great condition. But it can't be checked to make sure as the battery is dead and the power adapter was not with it. I've looked on line at various stores, Office Depot, Staples, Amazon, Buy, etc only to find that they either do not carry Apple products or the accessories and power adapters would not work. Or the prices are disgustingly high. Due to illness I cannot work and my parents are on a limited budget. Does anyone know what sites carry accessories and power adapters that will work on the 180c without breaking the bank, atleast a power adapter for now, to see if the 180c even works? Any advice appreciated.

Hi, I'm not sure that a retail store will still carry an adaptor this old unless it's a generic one.
I just checked mine, as Jan says it is 7.5V DC at 3.0A don't get the older version which was for older PowerBooks as it was only 2.0A. The part number on my 3.0A is M5652.
This fellow on eBay seems to have lots.

  • Defective power adapter??

My iBook gave me quite the scare last night. (I'm using my Compaq Presario (w/ Vista, God help me!) to post this.)
My iBook had about 20 percent left on the battery, so I put it to sleep and plugged it in to charge it. About an hour or so later, I checked and the battery had drained to 18 percent. The plug light was amber, but it obviously wasn't charging. And here's what was flakey: There was a soft buzzing sound from the power adapter. When I shut down the iBook, the buzzing stopped and the light stayed amber. But I checked another hour later and the battery continued to slowly drain.
So, I checked these discussion boards, reset the PMU, took out the battery and put it back in, checked the power at about this mac (it was not charging and the battery had -- I can't remember exactly -- zero capacity), tried the power adapter with the 2-prong thing (without the three-prong extention), and the battery continued to drain. It finally got to the point where the iBook would go to sleep in less than a minute. I could barely power up or shut down. The iBook did nothing when I tried only the power adapter with the battery removed.
So I'm thinking do I need to replace the adapter, the logic board, the DC in board, the battery?? Then I again unplugged the power plug and checked the pin for damage. There isn't any. I plugged it in again and booted, and now IT'S CHARGING. And the About this Mac > power shows a healthy, charging battery. I shut down, and it's charging now, no buzzing noise, and I'm not touching it until the light is green.
Can somebody tell me what happened? Do I need a new power adapter? I bought this iBook new from Apple in September 2005. It has the orignial battery. I've never had any real problems with my iBook. What's going on?

Just an update, but I'm hoping that this problem is solved.
The new battery I ordered from OWC arrived today. I replaced the original battery and NO PROBLEM. I didn't have to wiggle the plug or anything. Everything is working as it should. The battery has charged 100 percent and I'm keeping the plug in for 12-plus hours, as instructed to calibrate it.
I'll know for sure if that was the problem after I drain the new battery to empty and see if it recharges as it should. But for now it looks like the 29 month old original battery was the problem. That kind of ticks me off because it still had 56 percent of its original capacity. It seems like I should have gotten another year of use out of it. When I removed it (and it was fully charged), it had 484 load cycles.
The battery from OWC ($99) was a lot cheaper than Apple's price ($129). Also, they were not overly helpful at the closest Apple store (23 miles away). I would have to bring the iBook in so they could inspect it. They would have to order the part (if it was the DC-in board) and I would have to make a second trip to the store. The part wasn't in, but even if it was, they wouldn't hold it for me, and they wouldn't order it for me until they inspected the iBook, and they wouldn't just sell me the part. I had to have it installed by them for $85. The DC-in board is $12. The cheapest new one I could find on line was $29.95 (and $9 shipping).
So ... I'm hoping the new battery fixed everything. All seems to be well.

  • Power Adapter - Moving from US to UK

    Hello,
I just bought a new hp Pavilion dv7-4295us  laptop  in the United States.
I live in the Republic of Ireland / UK however.
Do I need a new power adapter,  and if so can you recommend which one?
    Thanks,
    cmps3

No, the AC adpater will work, you just need an adapter for the wall socket to convert it to USA style.

  • Where to find the EU power adapter

    Hello,
I bought an iPad 2 in NYC last week but I live in France and the power adapter is not the same (round pins instead of flat ones).
I would like to buy only the removable part of the adapter (the one with the pins) and not the entire adapter which cost 19€ in France but I can't find this anywhere but on chinese websites ...
When I look on the Apple website (in the shop space), it's the same by the way, only the entire adapter is buyable !
Could you tell me if I can find this in an Apple store ?
    Thank you

    T.Delaune,
After reading your last post, it appears that you have a misunderstanding of the adapter plug.  The adapter plug is simply an interface between the US plug that you have on your charger and the French (Euopean) wall socket.
It should be quite inexpensive, roughly 5USD or a few Euros.  There is no concern for wattage.  Just to be clear, you will plug your US charger into the adapter plug, which would then be plugged into your wall socket in France.
So the female side of the adapter plug will have a US type socket, and the male side of the adapter plug will have the French/Euro type pins.  This is the cheapest, easiest way to solve your needs.

  • Power Adapter.. issues

I'm working on a Powerbook G4 15Inch FW-800 and due to some lightning it fried the LIO Board which is the Sound/DC-In board, I replaced it as well as the RJ-11 Jack that had some fried components on it as well and everything runs just great on it now!! Except whenever the power adapter is plugged in or removed it restarts!! So i know the battery works great, until i plug in the power adapter, and the power adapter works great, until i unplug it and try to run off the battery.. I'm at a loss here, also the Battery Backup.. I tested the battery and it has the proper voltage but it still doesnt keep the date and time when the computer is off without battery or power adapter for like 30 minutes!!! HELP! please

Charles, First welcome to the discussions.
You need to get in touch with Applecare... They will want you to bring it in and if they determine that is is defective part they will probably replace it free of charge...However if they find the cause to be misuse or abuse then I would quess you might be out of luck and will have to pay to have it fixed...Cheers..Don
