E1200 - browser utility cannot set up MAC filtering

The browser-based settings utility for my E1200 can't setup MAC address filtering. I go to the "Wireless MAC Filter" page and enable MAC filtering.
When I click the “wireless client list” button, a new window opens saying “IE cannot display the webpage”. This always happens when I have a wireless connection active.
When there are no active connections, then IE properly displays the MAC address table, but it is empty since there aren't any computers connected to the router.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

greencross:
"This. Just write down the MAC addresses of the devices you want to filter and input them manually. And just as gv said, MAC address filtering is useless if you want to hackproof your network. There are tons of sniffing / spoofing software out there to get around it."
Yeah, I saw that he wrote that, but I want the wireless client list feature to work.
As I understand the situation, the E1200 firmware has an entirely useless feature, but even if it wasn't useless, it wouldn't matter, because it doesn't work the way it's supposed to anyway!

  • Disk Utility : Cannot set burn speed

I've created a DVD disc image from DVDSP3 and want to burn it to a new DVD-R at less than 8x speed, but Disk Utility has greyed out the speed setting.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!
    -Bob.

Yes, you can set the burn speed in the iDVD '08 Preferences (finally).
I just can figure out what your problem is with Disk Utility - it's probably something simple we are overlooking.

  • Time Capsule flashes amber (slow) and not being picked up by Airport Utility; cannot set up Time Capsule

Airport Time Capsule purchased in Canada, trying to set up in home in Mexico.  Connected to isp via ethernet cable, tried resets and power off/on on both TC and isp modem.  TC flashes amber (slow), and is not picked up by Airport Utility on Macbook or iPad.  Do I have a faulty TC that has to be returned?  Wireless signal from provider is strong and reliable for last 5 yrs.  Please help

Got it figured :-)  Unable to pick up TC via Airport Utility on MacBook Pro or iPad. Used iPad via Settings-WiFi to pick up TC and enter edit functions. Once WAN deselected, Bridge selected, DHCP selected got the steady green light on the TC.  Airport utility now picks up the TC no problem on both iPad and Macbook.  System now fully operational.

  • Entered incorrect MAC Filtering ID! How can I unblock Airport access?

Trying to beef-up my home network security, I set-up MAC Filtering for my AirPort Extreme internet connection, but I entered an incorrect MAC address for my computer in Airport Setup Utility and now cannot log into my own Airport Extreme. I reset the Airport, which allowed me to access it with the Airport Setup Utility, but when I try to reprogram the security, it says I am not on the access control list and shuts off access to the Airport.
Is there a way to delete the MAC Filtering and start again?
    Thanks
    NorCalJoe

MAC Filtering should not be considered any real security. The MAC addresses of connected clients are easily discovered and cloned.
If you want security, enable WPA and use a non-dictionary password.

Use SeaBeast's suggestion or perform a hard reset. KB 107451, Resetting the AirPort Extreme Base Station

  • MAC Filtering Not working

I have a Netgear CG3100D. When I try to set up MAC filtering (by loging into the Admin console), the list of trusted devices never seems to be accurate (i.e. things are missing off the list) and does not pull in the actual device names.  Can anyone help ?

    Hey blecp1,
Can you try a full default of the modem and see if it still happens?

  • When I click the iCloud button I get a browser with check boxes, not slider buttons and it does not have a "backup and storage" button.  So I cannot set up backup.

When I open my iCloud browser it looks different than "normal." It shows the list with check boxes, not slider on-off buttons.  It dos not show a "storage and backup" button so I cannot set up my backup. What is wrong?

If see something like the image below it's because you are looking at the iCloud settings on your Mac, not on an iOS device (which has sliders).  Storage & Backup isn't in the Mac settings because you cannot back up your Mac to iCloud.  Only iOS devices can back up to iCloud.  On a Mac, you can get information about your iCloud account storage by looking at the green usage bar at the bottom and by clicking the "Manage..." button on the bottom right.

  • E1200 - Ports not working and mac filtering problem

If there was a way to give negative stars to this router, I would. As it is, the minimum rating I can give this product is one star, and that's one star too many.
I was upgrading from the WRT54G, which is an ugly thing to look at, but a reliable workhorse nonetheless. I turned that in to a downstream switch in my comms hub.
On the E1200, I flashed the latest firmware, used different Cat5 cables, and different laptops before committing to hating this product.
The first time I reached out to Amazon, the Amazon rep gave me a Cisco number to call. Turns out, that's some shady mortgage refinance hotline. Try it for yourself! 1-800-666-1771.
    Now, the rant -
    1. Two out of four wired LAN ports don't work: What can be the fix for this?! The activity lights on ports 3 and 4 blink and suggest data transfer is taking place, but the wired laptop simply can't acquire an IP address and access the internet. Same result when I connect my Panasonic Blu-Ray player to ports 3 and 4. None of the Viera Cast features load.
    2. MAC filtering unreliable: The wireless routing works somewhat reliably, if and only if, one settles for the most basic security. If I only choose a password and WPA2 protocol, things work fine. If I add another layer of security (in my case, enabling MAC filtering and only PERMITTING gateway to listed MAC IDs), things break down. As soon as I disable MAC filtering, wireless access to authenticated clients is restored.
    3. Cisco customer service: The censored world we live in, compels me to criticize politely. TERRIBLE. Cisco website is unintuitive, and frustrating. There's no easy way to register your purchased product. The Cisco "registration" is intentionally misleading and deceptive. For all intents and purposes, it's just an information gathering tool for Cisco. Don't bother registering there, unless you love the idea of storing your personal information on their servers. Their phone-based customer service is apathetic and uninterested. My rep was so distrusting of my intelligence and motor control, that he simply wouldn't believe that I had selected "PERMIT" and not "PREVENT" as the option under MAC filtering. After he asked me the same question for the fourth time, I raised my voice, and he gave up the idea of checking for the fifth time.
However, this review is a tale of two companies. I reached out to Amazon again. This time, I got a rockstar in the shape of Leanne C! She was incredibly helpful, and understanding. What's more, she set up my return without any hassle and this Cisco dud is on its way back. I'm a big fan of Leanne's and my confidence in Amazon is restored.
I'm sure that i received a lemon. I've never had problems with Linksys products. Maybe others' experience is different from mine.

In your case as port numbers 1 and 2 does not work, what you could have done a loop back test. To perform a loop back test you need to take an ethernet cable, connect one end of that cable to internet port and the other end to the non-working port on the router. If you get the led to glow on both internet and the respective ethernet port that indicates that the port is working fine.
It could also be a sychronization issue between the above mentioned lan ports and the lan card of your computer. As a part of trouble shooting you can try to reduce the card speed of your lan card. Following are the steps to reduce the speed of your lan card.
START--> right-click My Network Places and click Properties
right-click on the device manager and click properties
    Click on the CONFIGURE button
Select the ADVANCED tab and in the box under the header property select "speed and duplex" and change the value on the right to 10 mbps half duplex. A restart would be recommended after performing these steps.
In the second half you said that after enabling the mac filter option the internet breaks down. Here, do you mean to say that the computer
gets disconnected from the wireless network or it stays connected with a valid IP address but without an internet connection.
Well, it is an unusual issue however you could have reset and reconfigure the router as you got the latest firmware upgraded on it.
    Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.

  • Set up MAC Address Filtering on WRT54G - now nothing connects

I set up MAC address filtering on the wireless router.  Added 5 MAC addresses to the PERMITTED list, by selecting them from the available devices.   Saved the changes.  Now, none of the machines can connect to the access point.  That includes the PC I use to log in and administer the access point.  I connected the network cable directly to my PC to manage the router/access point.  Still not able to connect.  What happened?  How do I get back in and turn that nonsense off.  I know MAC Filtering is questionable wrt effectiveness, but I decide to try it.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Reset the router back to defaults. Reconfigure it from scratch.

    Hi silvelining,
There is a help file appears to the right side of the modem screen and should assist with adjusting the settings.

10.8.4 is throwing an error with this software: "Airport Utility cannot be installed on this disk. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported"

You are trying to install a version of Airport Utility earlier than 6.0, correct? If so see the following: Installing the Old AirPort Utility (Version 5.6) on Mountain Lion | frank.is.

  • HT1998 Airport Utility 6.2 no options for managing MAC filtering

Any ideas how I can manage add a MAC address that is allowed?

The AirPort Utility does not offer an option for MAC filtering. At least not directly. What it does provide is an option for Timed Access Control where wireless clients' MAC addresses are used to determine which can connect.
You will find this option on the Network tab > Timed Access Control

I tried partitioning my HD to install linux, the installion was not successful and now I can't boot my mac, I tried internet recovery, it was not helpfull as the disk utility cannot delete the partition I created. It was only showing me an error message "EFI files are missing", I realized that it is trying to boot from the new partition I created for the installation of the linux I intended to do.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • Utility cannot find airport extrme, how can I set it up? thanks

trying to setup the airport extreme but utility cannot find the deviceto begin setup , any suggestions be gratly appreciated

Which model AirPort Extreme is it, are you using a Mac to configure it, and if so what version of OS X is it running?
In general, start with a "hard reset" - hold its reset button depressed continuously, five to ten seconds, until its LED flashes rapidly. After it restarts the Extreme will create an open wireless network to which you must connect and subsequently use AirPort Utility to configure it.

  • Cannot set up Time Machine because Airport Utility cannot find it.  What do I do now?

Sorry, I meant to say Airport Utility cannot find Time Capsule.  The TC is not listed as an available drive in the TM setings panel.  Trying to set up a MBP.  iMac TM settings panel lists TC but if I search for it from either machine, iMac or MBP it is not found.  Repeated rescanning doesn't find it.  Also trid Airport Utility from iPad and iPhone, still not found.  When I first purchased it I set it all up so I have logged into it before.  That was a couple of months ago, now I've got around to setting up TM I can't access it.  It is continuing to provide my wireless network though.

OK, turned off all devices, pulled the plug out of the TC, waited then plugged back in.  Started everything up again and Airport Utility can now find the TC.
Thanks to you both for trying to help.  Next time I'll try this first but it didn't seem like a very elegant Apple solution to the problem.
