E1550 USB Permissions trouble

I'm trying to setup a 3TB drive on my network with the E1550's USB port.
I've had absolutely NO luck, until I enabled "Anonymous Disk Access" under the sharing preferences of the E1550.
I made a specific user, a member of the admin group, and made sure that the admin group and the "guest" group had permission to access the drive, but it doesn't seem to matter.
Every time I try to map the network drive, I check "Login as different user" (Win 7x64), and no matter what I put in, the permissions dialog comes back, until it fails to connect.
I've tried connecting as linksysE1550\admin, [usergroup]\admin, linksysE1550\[username] and [usergroup]\[username], where [usergroup] is The Workgroup Name specified on the Storage Administration page, and [username] is any one of my custom-added usernames.  Obviously, I've tried resetting passwords and the like.
Any suggestions?  I'm very frustrated, and DO NOT want unrestricted write-access connectivity.
Thanks!

It would be best if you start from scratch and upgrade the router’s firmware if there’s a new update available then reset the router afterwards. When you create users, just make sure that the user is part of a group that has either r & w access or read-only access. When you create share folder, make sure that there groups that could access it. Disable “Anonymous Disk Access“ because if you don’t then there will be an unrestricted access to the mapped network drive. Once thing to consider is you can’t use two users to map the network drive on a single pc login, you need to restart the computer in order for you to use another user. To know more on how to create groups or users on storage devices using the Linksys wireless-N routers then click on the link below.

  • Openbox + Thunar + USB + Permissions

    Hello,
I cannot seem to solve permission issues associated with mounting a USB key with Thunar in Openbox. First up, I am part of the storage group:
    $ group daniel
lp wheel network video audio optical storage users
    My ~/.xinitrc is:
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc
    exec dbus-launch openbox-session
I've also included ck-launch-session for the automount option, but that didn't help either.
Yet even with this setup, I still see the following permissions when I insert my USB key:
    $ ls -ld /dev/sbd*
    brw-rw---- 1 root storage ... /dev/sdb
So at this point I'm not sure what else I can do to successfully mount my USB key. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Permissions Trouble on a Shared Drive

    Hello out there,
I have setup a Lacie Ethernet Big Disk on an ethernet network connected through a Netgear GS748T switch. I am asking people to use it as a shared backup-drive among other things. I wanted to do a complete backup of all the files on there friday to take off-site and it had a lot of trouble with permissions which were basicallly looking like this:
    Name Privilege
    (unknown) Read&Write
    everyone No Access
When I log in as admin and try to change these permissions and then propogate them to the items inside, it appears to be happening but the new permissions don't stick.
This is just a temporary situation until we get our backup systems automated and done properly but in the meantime is there a way to set up permissions to be read and write for everyone on that disk?
Thanks for your help out there,
    Andrew
ps The shared drive has a static ip address, name and password and the computers that save to it run the gamut of OS 10.4 to 10.6 and even some windows PCs

Is anybody out there? Can anybody hear me?
Have I posted in the wrong topic?
    Do I smell?
Just trying to refresh my topic to see if there are any bites. Any info would be appreciated.
If you need to know more to answer, let me know.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • USB Permissions

    Hi,
I have HAL all set up and working for USB drives, it works and mounts them fine for my standard non-root user.
But im trying to use a program (Gnomad 2), and this gives an error that it cannot find the device on the USB Bus, but it works perfectly as root.
Are there some permissions i need to set to allow non-root users access to the USB bus?
    Thanks
    Jack

gnomad2 is for mp3 players by creative or dell jukebox i believe also works with gnomad2
is this the device you want to use?
if so yes it is a permission problem which can be fixed via udev rule
    there is this thread
but since the format of udev rules have changed
so you need to make it look like this
    BUS=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="041e", SYSFS{idProduct}=="4110",
    SYMLINK+="njb%n", GROUP:="audio"
    ACTION=="add", BUS=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="041e", SYSFS{idProduct}=="4110",
    RUN+="/etc/hotplug/usb/nomadjukebox"
    SUBSYSTEM=="usb_device", SYSFS{idVendor}=="041e", SYSFS{idProduct}=="4110",
    GROUP:="audio"

  • Permissions trouble with new MacBook Pro

I had previously upgraded my MacBook Pro (original unibody model) to Mountain Lion with no apparent issues. I have two Users, both with Admin status and everything appeared to function as before.
I just traded in my old MacBook Pro for a new current model Retina MacBook Pro, using Migration Assistant upon first startup to move everything over from the older machine. Most everything has been seamless - except for Permissions.
I started seeing messages appear indicating I didn't have permission to open files, run apps, delete files, etc. Looking at Get Info, I found Sharing & Permissions was only set up for (if I recall correctly) Admin, Administrator and something called Wheel. I solved the permissions issue while logged in as the primary User by adding both Users to the Sharing & Permissions section of the Info screen for the entire hard drive, giving them Read & Write access, and selecting Apply to enclosed items... That seems to have solved the issue for the primary User.
But then I tried working logged in as the secondary User. I started getting messages indicating I could not save a file I had just modified because I did not have permission, and that I should contact the Administrator. Well, that's me. So I tried the same thing that I did logged in as the primary User, but there was no change. I still can't save a modified file logged in as the secondary Admin User.
I haven't found anything that addresses this - except to learn where the Wheel User originated. Can someone point me in the right direction to where I can learn how to gain full, unlimited access to my own computer - under bothe User accounts?
    Thank you.

You corrupted the permissions of every file on the volume. Restore everything from the backup you made before doing that. Then do as follows.
Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Rs-232 to USB converter trouble

    Hi, everyone
I have developed an application in labview 6.1 for communicating with an instrument via serial port, using serial compatibility VIs. the software works ok in the development machine which has a rs-232 port, but i can´t make it start in other PCs using USB to RS-232 converters (since they don´t have a serial port, only USB). I simply can´t stablish communications, BUT if I open hyperterminal (just open it, i don´t send any commands or anything else) and then close it again, the application in labview works ok!!! it´s just like hyperterminal "wakes up" my instrument! does anybody has any idea how can hyperterminal do this???

Are you using the Serial port init vi? Is there any error code coming out?

  • USB stick troubles

I'm trying to get USB sticks up...just one problem: every time I plug in my USB stick, it mounts somewhere else. I set
    /dev/sdb1 /media/usb vfat default 0 0
in my fstab, but the next time I plugged it in, it registered at sdc! Now, I'm no expert, and I know we're supposed to do things on our own, but this isn't working. what's the accurate fstab setting for this?
Also, when I get it right (like if I changed the above code to sdc1), and select "open in new window" in the KDE dialogue, I get an error message "Only HAL can do this." UPDATE: The same happens when I insert another medium, such as a CD.
And I've been over the HAL wiki page as well as the forum post it leads to. The post didn't really help me because the poster once had the feature working fine.

One more question. I get an error when ejecting my iPod, be it from Amarok or from the Desktop. It successfully unmounts, but fails to eject. For those familiar with iPods, the screen persists with the "Do not disconnect message" and the flashing circle. Has anyone else run into this, and if so, where can I find a fix?

  • Permissions trouble moving files -Help

I am trying to copy a large folder to my external hard drive. I have done this many times before. However, today, it is telling me that I do not have the permissions to do so.
What does this mean? How can I correct it?
When I click "Get Info" on the folder it lists me, staff, and everyone. What is "staff"?
I am a sole user, and I do not use my computer in a corporate environment.
    Please help!

From the Apple support article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963
    Owner, Group, Others
Abbreviations like "rwx" and "r-x" describe the permission for one user or entity. The permissions set for each file or folder defines access for three entities: owner, group, and others.
    * Owner - The owner is most often the user who created the file. Almost all files and folders in your home directory will have your username listed as the owner.
    * Group - Admin users are members of the groups called "staff" and "admin". The super user "root" is a member of these and several other groups. Non-admin users are members of "staff" only. Typically, all files and folders are assigned to either "staff," "admin," or "wheel".
    * Others - Others refers to all other users that are not the owner or part of the group for a file or folder.
Check to see that you have Read and Write permissions on the folder in question AND that it is applied to all enclosed folders. (Click the Gear symbol at the bottom of Get Info window to apply to all.)
Also Get Info on the external drive and tell it to "ignore ownership on this volume."

  • USB headset trouble with Skype

*I have a pair of "Skype certified" headsets (Typhoon) and a LogiLink USB splitter. When using it with Skype, I can hear fine, but the headset microphone does not work*. I've changed all the preference settings on my computer and with Skype and I've even downloaded SoundSource to make it easier (recommended in another forum). But nothing works.
I had this problem about two years ago when I first bought my computer and tried using a Bluetooth headset with Skype and that didn't work either.
Oddly, the headset mike works when testing it with the Apple system preferences (at least the blue bars seem to move) but not when dialing up the Skype sound test.
Any ideas? I'm rather frustrated at this point and would appreciate any advice.
Like I said, I've already tried all the basic things like: 1. toying with the Mac and Skype sound preferences; 2. updated with all the newest software (at least for 10.5.8); 3. downloaded Sound Source; 4. double-checked the USB connection, etc.

I'll give that a try. But I find that in these sorts of situations, I get tossed back and forth between the interested parties (i.e. Apple, Skype, headset manufacturer, etc.) with no one really taking responsibility nor having a sense of the whole picture (what's really behind the problem). But I will definitely give it a shot. Thanks.

  • USB mouse trouble and dissappearing program

I just bought a new MacBook and started using it Monday. When I close the lid it goes into sleep mode. Whe I open the lid back up it wakes up all things normal. However, the mouse won't function. I have to unplug and plug it back in and it's working again. The computer will go to sleep in its own within 5-10 minutes (I assume it's preset to this). When I wake it back up the mouse won't function again and this time the red optical light starts blinking rapidly.
Another thing I noticed... I have the gmail notifier installed. The Gmail icon was displayed right next to the bluetooth icon. Today I opened the lid and the gmail icon was nowhere in sight. I waited for a while still did not appear. It was like the program just dissappeared. I had to download and re-install the Gmail notifier.
What do these things mean? I have had duds in the past. This is my 3rd laptop in 3 years. I'm trusting this one will not give me problems cause I like apple's products!

Here's the page for the mouse on amazon.com
    http://www.amazon.com/Targus-PAUM01U-Ultra-Retractable-Optical/dp/B00007LTAQ
Several Mac users reported using it with no problems, and it did not require installing any software.
There have been some USB issues reported on these boards with OSX 10.4.10 -- so perhaps that is the problem.
It might be worth playing with the mouse/trackpad settings that control whether or not the trackpad is active when a mouse is attached.

  • USB Keyboard Troubles- Help?

So weird. First it worked. Now it doesn't.
This is my second Windows 7 installation (I had to re-install due to a password glitch).
Both times I created a BootCamp partitian (200G) via BootCamp Utility, and had a relatively uneventful install.
The first time my USB keyboard worked immediately. I didn't even have to install the drivers!
But then I had to re-install due to a password glitch.
So I erased the partitian, and used BootCamp Utility again, and went through the process again.
This time I had borrowed a wired keyboard just to make sure everything went smoothly.
But my Apple USB Keyboard wont work. At all.
I've tried reinstalling, uninstalling, and reinstalling the drivers again and again.
    But no luck.
It works FINE here in OSX (duh), but I can't even get the CAPSLOCK light to come on in Windows 7.
I've checked DEVICES and it doesn't come up there.
    Any ideas?
    Help?

If you checked devices, I guess this time you got a password keyed in with whatever keyboard.
In Windows, you need to run Bootcamp update from your OSX install DVD to update video, mouse, keybd, bluetooth, etc. drivers, install Bootcamp in Windows.
You should do this when you have the keyboard that you are going to continue using attached to your computer.
    Password Idea:
Because there are a number of them for iTunes, various Mail apps, Windows, Mac etc., key or copy/paste them into a (.Txt) file on Mac, Windows, Flash drive.
So, if you could not get into Windows for example, you would be able to see what was keyed from other OS.

  • Faxing with usb modem trouble

I found out the you could fax right from the Mac and was thrilled, but hit a snag when I discovered that you could only do it through a analog modem that connected directly to your phone line (DSL or ADSL doesn't work) so I bought the apple usb modem, at first I could send faxes just fine but couldn't receive them, so I tried attaching a 2wire filter on the phone line too filter the DSL out. Now I can receive part of the fax, but only part of it. Some times half the page and sometimes jst one line. what am I doing wrong now????? Please help I've been trying for 2 weeks to get this going, and I'm so close, but this ain't horse shoes. Going Crazy.
    Thanks.

What happens if you take the DSL modem out of the picture altogether (unplug it and any DSL filters from the phone wall jack) and plug in the  USB modem into the phone wall jack all by itself? Can you send/receive faxes okay then?

  • Usb audio trouble

    Hi,
after upgrading to 10.4.6 I can no longer use my external audio device (Extigy). It worked just fine before the upgrade. Now I get some garbled sound coming out of the speakers, (occasionally I get a second or two of the actual song).
Since there are no drivers from Creative Labs for OS X, I have been googling for info but can not find anything that would help me.
Is there a way to do a rollback of some sort? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Max

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The only rollback possible would be to recover from your backup. You can theoretically can try to archive and install and apply the earlier combined update, but that doesn't always work right because of newer preferences that don't work with the older applications.
A better thing might be to repair permissions, apply the combined 10.4.6 update without any peripherals except keyboard and mouse attached and see if it fixes it the issue after repairing permissions again.
If that does not work, try zapping the PRAM which can reset audio settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
And if you aren't backed up, in the future always backup prior to an update in case you find something doesn't work after an update. That's probably the most important step for upgrading, and is among others I list here:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html

  • USB mouse trouble.

I plugged in my old mouse to my new laptop here and it cuts in and out. The computer makes that little chime noise and then again and again cutting in and out. It has done this 2 two other mice. One of which was brand new. Is there anything I can do. I just got the computer 5 days ago for gaming and I can't use the mouse. It is pretty much useless without it.

Have you tried another usb port??? , also try another device in that usb port, it sounds like there may be a loose connection on the port, what OS and mouse are you using they may not be compatable.
