E2000 setup via ethernet connection for a Mac?

Hello!
I recently purchased a Mac and wanted to reset my wireless router and set it up using my mac. However, when I downoaded the software to set it up again, it said it was not compatable with my Mac OS (X Lion 10.7.4). I am sure there is a way to manually set it up via an ethernet connection, but I am at a loss as to how to do that.
The wireless router is working just fine, I am able to connect to the internet wirelessly and there's nothing wrong with my internet service, however the wireless router is not secured.
I have my Mac connected to the wireles router via an ethernet cord, but have no idea how to proceed from here.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there. True, for E2000 router, there is no update for Cisco Connect that is compatible for mac 10.7. And yes, you can do it manually to secure your wireless network. Good that you plugged-in your mac to the router. Open your internet browser (Safari or Firefox). On the address bar type in http://192.168.1.1 and press enter. It will usually prompt you for a username and a password. Try admin in both fields. If it will not work it means it has been setup to something else. If you have any notes already about router log-in password then use it. Usually, when admin works it will take you to the set-up screen. From there you click wireless on the black bar and go to wireless security subtab on the blue bar. You can select WPA/WPA2 mixed mode. After selecting it, you will see an empty box for passphrase and that is where you can type your wireless password (minimum of 8 characters, no special characters no space). Make sure to save it. Now open your wifi and connect to your secured network. It means connected when it has a tick or check mark before the name and that is after you typed-in the password.
If ever, admin did not work as well as your own password to log-in to the page of the router, reset should be the next step. Reset only for 10 seconds and wait for power to stabilize. Admin should be working by then for password. By the way, if you need to reset the router in the process, everything will go back to defaults but I have links below that you can refer to on how to set it up for internet again.

Sure.. the PC connects by SMB.. the Mac connects by AFP or SMB..
But you can simply share SMB directly from the Mac.. there is no need to copy files through the TC. Go to system preference, sharing, and turn on SMB for the folder you want to share files to / from on the Mac.
Make sure you have a common username and password also helps.
If you have a TC already can you copy files to it via the windows machine??

Wireless and Ethernet connection for U330 not working - Help

I need help with my wireless and ethernet connection for the U330 notebook. I can not connect to the internet since I received my U330 and if I try to connect to a wireless router, it knocks other users off. I called customer service already and they asked me to download the driver on the Lenovo Downloads and Drivers page. The page can not be found when you try to download the drive so I was not sure if there is another place I can download it since customer service mentioned that they will send me a disk which will take some time. Your router may be knocking you due to lots of facts. Those Ensteins suggested drivers reinstall because that's the only thing they know.
Try changing your encryption mode, try adding your laptop's WiFi MAC-adress of whitelist of Route, try disabling firewall, try increase strength of signal.
Driver is located at consumersupport.lenovo.com - do not hesitate to check.

Under Network Preferences, select the WiFi
click on "Advanced..." button
Select the network you want to delete from the list and click on "-"
Click "Ok"
Click "Apply"

You may also want to delete the wireless key from Keychain.

Configure Airport via ethernet connection

Hi everyone,
Is there a way to connect to and adminster Airport Extreme base station using a physical (ethernet) connection? I could have sworn I've done this before but cannot seem to do it now and when I try, Airport Utility simply says it cannot find any base stations (its obviously only looking over wireless).
The reason I ask is that the router is apparently 802.11n capable however whenever I set it to use Wireless N my laptop cannot detect the network. My laptop uses a Broadcom 43225 802.11b/g/n wireless card.
Because I can't get the PC and Aiport to speak to each other over a phyical connection, the only way to get back on the network is to reset the router using the reset button, meaning I have to reconfigure the network every single time.
Anyway I'm blabbing on but if anyone has any theories as to why I cant detect a wireless N network I'm all ears, but my main question is can I connect physically to Airport Base Station?

You must use the older version of AirPort Utility on a PC to administer the AirPort Express devices, if you do not have a Mac using a 5.x version of AirPort Utility.
When you say that your ISP changed your sign in credentials, we assume that you mean to say that you have a new name and password for your wireless network. Would that be correct?
If yes, then you will need to reset each of the AirPort Express devices back to factory default settings and then set them up again to join the new wireless network there.
Power off the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the Express first, and keep holding it in for another 10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Express
Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
The Express is now ready to be reconfigured again to join your "new" network.
Open AirPort Utility, click on the Express, and then click Continue to follow the guided setup.
Reset and configure the other Express devices the same way.

Time Capsule and Time Machine: How can I force Ethernet Connection for the first backup ?

How can I force the Time Capsule - Time Machine Couple to communicate via an Ethernet cable for the initial backup without changing the wi-fi configuration of the Time Capsule?
I do not want to change the wi-fi configuration of the TC because it appeared that I was not able to restaure it proprerly after a first "ethernet backup".
Please note that I do not want to use my TC to extend my wi-fi network nor create a new one. But, when I disable the wi-fi on the TC, as I want to restaure it, I only can see "expend" or "create a network" options within the wirless config page of AirPort Utlity; "Connect to a network" is not shown in the list!

You MUST change the TC mode to something other than join a wireless network.. because in that mode, TC turns off the ethernet ports.
The join a wireless network is hidden option because apple do not support it and it works poorly.
You can access it by holding down the option key.
You can also save the current settings and restore them after you finish the ethernet backup.
Please note using join means double hop wireless and your TC data speed to the Mac will be extremely slow.. this will also affect your other internet connections and any other computers on the wireless network as it will use most of the capacity for much longer period than directly connecting to the TC.
Basically that is why Apple do not support it.. it is lousy way to work a TC in a network.

After Using Ethernet Connection For Months Airport Will No Longer Connect.

For the last few months I have been connecting my iMac to my Netgear Wireless Router by an Ethernet cable, as I no longer needed to use a wireless connection.
Yesterday, my son tried to connect to my wireless router with his Toshiba laptop. He connected to the wireless signal easily but his web browser was unable to connect to the internet.
So I decided to test my iMac wirelessly to see if I could spot his problem.
I turned on Airport and after a while a window appeared saying,"None of your preferred networks are available".
Yet my network was listed (together with several neighbours' networks).
I highlighted my network and clicked "Join". After a short while the message "Connection Failed" appeared.
Obviously I have tried this numerous times and in different ways to no avail.
I actually changed the name of my network a few weeks ago and tested it successfully at the time.
So my son can connect his PC to the network but can't access the internet, whilst I cannot connect to my router even though I can see it listed.
Any useful suggestions ...... mainly to get my Airport connecting first?
Needless to say when I use an ethernet connection I have no problems accessing the internet.

Sorry, didn't want to post verbose instructions if they weren't needed. Let's go one by one:
Is he getting all the right IP information - IP/mask/gateway/DNS?
Go to a command prompt (Start/run, type CMD then Enter). Then type IPCONFIG then Enter. This will give you everything except DNS. Run IPCONFIG /ALL. Note the DNS server(s). Compare this output with your Mac (System Preferences/Network).
If so, from Terminal, ping the gateway, then DNS, then yahoo.com. Where/when does it fail? If it fails at yahoo.com, does it resolve the name to the IP address?

From the command prompt you're hopefully still in (if not, run CMD again), ping the default gateway listed in the IPCONFIG output from above (type PING followed by gateway address; looks like #.#.#.#) Successful? If so, ping DNS server from IPCONFIG /ALL output. Successful? If so, ping yahoo.com. First, does it resolve yahoo.com to an actual address (i.e. 68.180.206.184)? Do you get replies, or does it timeout?

I connected the time capsule with Ethernet.
I set connect to PPPoe with "Manual" option.
I could easily control "Connect/disconnect" pppoe using AIRPORT (in the menu bar). But I could not find a way to "Connect/disconnect" via ETHERNET. (No ETHERNET icon on menu bar anyway...)

Have you consulted the printer's user manual for setting it up as an Ethernet printer? You will also need to delete your current printer in Print & Fax and when you Add the printer you will need to do so as an Ethernet printer. This means you will add it either as an IP printer using either LPR or IPP protocol - depends on what the printer supports. An Ethernet device requires an IP address that is either manually configured on the device or derived if the device supports DHCP. If the former then the IP address you configure for the printer must be within the range of IP addresses used by your router (typically 10.0.1.2-10.0.1.199 for an AEBS/TC.) This should be covered in the printer's user manual.

AirPort Express Dropping Connection to AirTunes via Ethernet Connection

I connect to my AirPort Express via ethernet using iTunes and AirTunes. I am using Windows Vista. The device works great for roughly 15 or so minutes, and then seems to loose its connection with iTunes. iTunes continues to play the music, but there is no sound coming out of the audio device connected to the AEx. If I toggle the Computer Speaker/AirPort Express output selection in iTunes it reconnects successfully with my AEx and will work as expected for a period of time, and then will eventually drop the connection (or at least the audio stops) again. I've used my AEx successfully for a couple years now - something over the last few months changed as this behavior is new. I am using the latest firmware and the latest version of iTunes.
Anybody have any ideas? Are there known software/firmware compatibility issues?

We have an airport extreme wifi in house, but also want to set up a hardwired ethernet connection for gaming and streaming of netflix. The computer only sees one or the other not both at same time.

We have a new iMac 2.9ghz and are running an airport extreme set up in house with several express entenders. The problem is that our son is streaming netflix and doing on line gaming and hogging all the band width. Time Warner tech suggested a hard wired ethernet connection to computer base sattion next to computer so that it can have direct conenction to internet. After much fishing of wire the connection worked great, but the wifi connection for the house is gone. I unplugged the ethernet connection and everything is fine. I read the articles about adjusting network preferences, but the issue seems to be in the extreme not in the computer. the connection goes from cable modem to extreme, from extreme to house and to hard wired conenction to other computer. Do we need a splitter before the extreme?

No. Something else is going on.
Your son may be hogging all the bandwidth but your wireless network should never simply disappear. Moreover, if your son isn't doing anything the available bandwidth for other devices should remain unaffected.
I suspect that something is miswired, and from what you describe I suspect that link is between the Extreme and the "other computer".
The way to accomplish what you propose is
Modem > Ethernet cable to Extreme's WAN port
Extreme's LAN ports > wired Ethernet devices.
There should be nothing but an Ethernet cable linking an Extreme LAN port and any other wired device. If you run out of available LAN ports on the Extreme, you need to by an "Ethernet switch" - they are not expensive, but don't call it a "splitter" or you will only confuse yourself. The switch would be connected to one of the Extreme's LAN ports, and you would connect additional devices to it. You can also use one of your Expresses for that purpose, assuming it is the current generation model with two Ethernet ports.

How do I use my ethernet connection for printing on my LAN and use my Wifi on a different router and ISP to connect to the internet?

A packet going to Apple is not local. It is going to 17.149.160.49 -- So it is sent to the topmost working connection to be Routed and sent to the Internet.
A packet going to a local computer or other device that is on the same subnet (has an IP address very close to the topmost IP Address of your computer) gets sent out that port as well, but is sent directly to that computer on the local subnet, since no Routing [changing of Addresses} is needed.
A packet going to a local computer or Printer or Network Attached Storage device that is not on the topmost subnet, but is on a secondary subnet such as the second network connection would be sent directly to that computer, since no Routing is needed.
I do not understand why two Routers have the same IP Address if they are not cross-connected. That makes everything very difficult when it should be simple.
