E2500 - Not Reliable

Pros: Nice to look at, fast ethernet speeds.
Cons: Wireless is not reliable at all. This could be a defective model but it is now 1 1/2 months after I purchased it and so I cannot rma it. I spent this time trying different things to see if it was anything other than the wireless router. My multiple wireless devices would connect, start surfing and then wifi would pause, and manytimes the router would dissappear from the devices list. I have not been able to keep any solid wifi connection with this router, even when the ethernet is working beautifully.
Other Thoughts: may be defective, other reviews not mentioning this.

E2500 is definitely one of the better routers that Linksys manufactures. Not only does it look good but it performs well also.
Your issue of intermittent wireless connection can be fixed by changing the wireless settings on the router like the wireless channel and some advanced wireless settings like the beacon interval, fragmentation threshold and RTS threshold. Also, there are many devices such as cordless phones, microwave ovens which work on the  same frequency as that of the router i.e 2.4 Ghz. Try keeping these devices away from the router so that the signals do not interfere. Hopefully, this should make the wireless connection stable.
Also, you cannot RMA the device to the store, but you can RMA it to Linksys if the product is still under hardware warranty.

  • SSDP discovery on Windows Store App not reliable

    Hi,
    I am having problem implementing SSDP discovery in windows 8 store program. Below is the code:
    public async Task SearchForDevices()
    var socket = new DatagramSocket();
    socket.MessageReceived += async (sender, args) =>
    Debug.WriteLine("Received data" + DateTime.Now);
    DataReader reader = args.GetDataReader();
    uint count = reader.UnconsumedBufferLength;
    string data = reader.ReadString(count);
    Debug.WriteLine(data);
    var response = new Dictionary<string, string>();
    foreach (
    string x in
    data.Split(new[] {"\r\n", "\n"}, StringSplitOptions.None))
    if (x.Contains(":"))
    string[] strings = x.Split(':');
    response.Add(strings[0].ToLower(), x.Remove(0, strings[0].Length + 1));
    Device device = await GetXml(response);
    Debug.WriteLine("Device found");
    if (DeviceFound != null)
    DeviceFound(this, new DeviceFoundEventArgs(device));
    await socket.BindEndpointAsync(null, "");
    HostName hostName = new HostName("239.255.255.250");
    socket.JoinMulticastGroup(hostName);
    string message = "M-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1\r\n" +
    "HOST: " + hostName.DisplayName + ":1900\r\n" +
    "ST: upnp:rootdevice\r\n" +
    "MAN: \"ssdp:discover\"\r\n" +
    "MX: 3\r\n\r\n";
    DateTime start = DateTime.Now;
    TimeSpan interval = new TimeSpan(0, 0, 30);
    Debug.WriteLine(start);
    IOutputStream stream = await socket.GetOutputStreamAsync(hostName, "1900");
    var writer = new DataWriter(stream) { UnicodeEncoding = UnicodeEncoding.Utf8 };
    writer.WriteString(message);
    await writer.StoreAsync();
    await Task.Delay(1500);
    This code is not reliable at all. About 50% times it can't find a connected device while other discover can find. But sometimes it works.
    My network sniffer (SmartSniff) sometimes can't even capture its SSDP request even though I have made the call many times.
    I don't think this is an async problem since it does work occasionally. Please help me. Thanks!

    Hi Jeff,
    I have an additional question to this thread.
    I try to share code between WinRT and Windows Phone 8 using similar code.
    Starting on Windows Phone 8 I ommited the following lines:
            await socket.BindEndpointAsync(null,
            socket.JoinMulticastGroup(hostName);
    This worked fine on the Phone. MSDN mentions for BindEndpointAsync,
    that  GetOutputStreamAsync also leads to a binding.
    I could receive answers. but when I tried to use this on WinRT/Windows Shop I did not receive anything. I had to put in the two lines of code from above.
    This is not how it is supposed to be, right?

  • 10.5 server: could not reliably determine the server´s fully qualified doma

    I bought mac 10.5 server unlimited clientes, yesterday I tried to install the software 3 times and never worked (from basic to advanced apple preconfigurations). I had the carrier support yesterday to verify that it is not a problem of the link.
    the server has static IP, manually asigned.
    server admin: computer name www.MMM.com, local hostname: www, network interface: ethernet (0), ipv4, add 201.122.etc.etc) dns name: dsl-201-122-63.etc !here LEOPARD is taking the address from the DSLÑ provider,!!!!! and I dont know how to change, but the address is entered manually in the network preferences!!!!!.
    I go to admin server: server name: www.MMM.com, services: DNS and WEB : ON
    DNS: Zones; www.MMM.com, type: primary
    Homepage: Service: www.MMM:com:80
    (also, I tri8ed with A redord www, type machine, value: 201.122.etc.etc)

    alias: MMM.com, web services enabled: all.
    also enabled default address any, port 80
    stop, and start web service.
    error log:
    httpd: aprsockaddr_infoget() failed afor www.MMM.com
    httpd: could not reliably determine the server´s fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for server name..
    any idea about how to correct that? I tried also the new installation, formating the disk, and the server software is not configurating the server correctly)the easy and advances installation are not working correctly).
    thanks a lot
    Alberto

    ok,
    I formated the MAC server for 4th time, installed again the server software, then I went for the Basic configuration. then entered the adress manually, then you have to delete the DNS entry (set it in blank), then in the next window enter the NS (which is the server name). then continue the installation.
    after starting the web service is running and it is resolving address.then you can upgrade to the advanced configuration and install the other services.
    in that order the www is resolving the address.

    Hi,
    Apple's AirPrint only support specific models while using wired or wireless network connection.
    Plugging a printer into a USB port of Apple base is not supported for AirPrint:
    AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of the Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsules are not supported with AirPrint.
    As well you must use AirPrint enabled printers for a such, none of your printers are AirPrint enabled:

    There are 3rd party solutions which allow sharing a printer connected to your Mac as AirPrint, Printopia as example provide a such:

  • Airport Extreme's support for streaming video NOT reliable for RealPlayer

    AIRPORT EXTREME BASE STATIONS DO NOT RELIABLY PROVIDE STREAMING SUPPORT USING NORMAL TRANSPORTS FOR REALPLAYER.
    Based on a problem I've had for a long time and information provided in RealPlayer OnLine Help, it appears that the Airport Extreme Base Stations do not reliably provide streaming support using normal transports for RealPlayer.
    HERE'S THE REASON FOR CONCLUDING THAT
    Even after updating with the latest software and firmware available for my Airport Extreme Base Station, RealPlayer will not play streaming video when my iMac is online via my Airport Extreme Base Station.
    (The configuration is iMac (non-wireless) --> Ethernet cable --> Airport Extreme Base Station --> DSL modem.
    Note that with that configuration I can browse the internet and play audio through RealPlayer - even though I cannot play streaming video.
    In contrast, when my iMac is connected directly to my DSL modem via an Ethernet cable, then I have no trouble playing streaming video in RealPlayer.
    HERE'S THE "WORK AROUND" SOLUTION I'M USING
    In RealPlayer/Preferences/Transport, I selected to use HTTP transport exclusively.
    Here's where to find details of that solution in RealPlayer's OnLine Help:
    In RealPlayer's Help menu, choose RealPlayer Online Help. Scroll down the left side of RealPlayer's help window to find the section Troubleshooting -> Network/Connectivity -> Wireless Issues.

  • IMessage on iMac not reliably receiving photos

    iMessage on iMac not reliably receiving photos but my iPhone and iPad are-what's the fix for this?

    Hi,
    I've been with the same problem for a couple of days, until finally today Messages simply stopped showing even a the window, so absolute inability to use it.
    Considering that reinstalling the operating system is NOT a solution, I searched for something myself.
    Pictures are controlled by xpcd, imagent and Messages, and it seems that when the problem arises is because they're using the wrong Apple server.
    While this may be solved by Apple in a update (I hope so), in the meantime you can do a workaround (it worked for me on two different machines, and even days old images appeared).
    In your Library, there is a folder called Preferences (that is /Users/<your_username>/Library/Preferences). There you should delete com.apple.imagent.plist com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist and com.apple.imessage.bag.plist, with Messages CLOSED. Then reboot so Messages creates new ones. Also delete all file starting with com.apple.imagent, com.apple.imservice, com.apple.imessage and com.apple.iChat that end in .lock.
    If even then it still is not working, deleting all files starting with com.apple.imagent, com.apple.imservice, com.apple.imessage and com.apple.iChat 100% for sure. But when you reboot you'll find you need to input again your login data for iMessage, FaceTime, Yahoo chat, AIM chat, Google Talk and Jabber (if you used them on Messages/iChat).
    This is an annoyance, but less than a whole operating system reinstall or losing the functionality.
    After all of this is done you should regain the ability to receive photos, send photos and drag&drop photos. Also if your Messages app only shows the menubar and no window at all, the same procedure solves it.

  • JMS not reliable ?

    After complaining to our JMS vendor about the fact that their JMS implementation was dropping messages, their response was that JMS is inherently not reliable . . . something about there not being a message ack (recipt?) or something.
    What's up with that?

    Hi,
    It depends which type of queue you're using and what kind of acknowledgment you require. As you go more secure in your system by enabling persistent, acknowledgment, and etc. you're loosing some performance, but it is completely acceptable for your vendor if it is necessary. I mean adding features like persistence decrease your performance because of the additional overhead to the system, but if it's required, there is nothing else to do.
    I did some investigations in comparing message migration between JMS and a somehow similar solution with JINI. JMS performed better in smaller demands and poorly in larger ones. The reason of such a thing was not because of JMS, but because of the performance/response time/flood handling of your application server or mostly your persistent storage. For example I used JBOSS which by default uses an in-memory database which is not good for production. For sure, you would not get a good performance, but it's not because of JMS.
    If you explain your situations more, I think we can be more helpful.

  • Not Reliably Going To Sleep With Lid Open?

    I've had my new MacBook Pro for a few days. I think it is absolutely brilliant. However, last night I left it running on battery with the lid open and returned to find the battery dead. It will go to sleep if you shut the lid or select sleep from the Apple menu.
    I called Apple and they talked me through numerous procedures including resetting the SMC, PRAM, deleting various plists and finally a permissions repair on the disk. The latter seemed to make it work.
    However, I've found this evening that it still does not reliably go to sleep with the lid open and I really can't work out why. It doesn't seem to be linked to a particular application. Sometimes even if I only have the finder running it will not go to sleep.
    When it does work, the computer takes 2-3 minutes to go to sleep after the display sleeps.
    I'm running Snow Leopard with all the available updates.
    Please can anyone suggest what I might do next?

    Hi,
    I've been struggling with same issue too, idle timer sleep just didn't work most of the time. I am a recent convert from Windows world and there were never issues with PC to go to sleep after idle timeout. With SL it was not so easy.
    However, I found a reason (Or two actually) why it was not sleeping, after going through my applications and web pages one by one.
    One of them is flash plugin in browsers, if I had any page open with flash, the computer would not sleep. Apparently flash somehow makes SL think it is not idle. Solution to this was to set up flash blockers to browsers. Which is not bad thing overall, flash is mostly adverts anyway on the pages I visit.
    Other one was facebook, even with flash disabled. Something in their real-time updating of statuses again prevents sleeping. I tried disabling java and java script too, it might help but then facebook does not work at all. Solution is to always close facebook after using it. Not a really good one, it's easy to forget running.
    Hope this helps!

  • Battery status not reliable

    Hello there,
    I got my rMBP mid 2014 two weeks ago and my battery status is not reliable. Please excuse my terrible language as English is not my first language. Back to my question. I am simultaneously using the "battery health" app from the AppStore. Both display similar battery stats when I first got it they were identical and I am confused. The built in stat says that my MBP is fully charged but "battery health" says that it's at 96%. And the battery capacity was at 107% and dropped to 100%. Should I be worried or is everything alright?
    Thank you for your answers in advance
    Yours sincerely batuu

    Don't rely solely on the stats produced by a third party app.
    You can take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.
    Best.

  • DVI to Video Adaptor not reliable.

    I received my DVI to Video Adaptor (s-video and composite) today. The first boot up was to no video, a couple restarts later and the login screen was up. I used the mini for a couple hours with the composite video and my tv and then turned it off. I came back later to again no video and after a few more power cycles... needless to say I have the mini hooked back up to a VGA display.
    Has anyone had any problems with this adaptor? Any advice as to how to get it to reliably display video?
    Thanks.

    Does the image seem to triplicate across the screen and jump around with all kinds of distortions? If so it appears you may have the same problem many iBook users were having...
    squeeb, "Composit/S-video output adapter Will not work", 08:21am Mar 5, 2004 CDT
    You can take the time to read through all those posts, but the news isn't good I'm afraid. It's something to do with the mac thinking the TV is a VGA monitor, so sends out the wrong signal (nobody really knows, Apple never acknowledged the problem). The only person to have fixed it had to have his logic board replaced!
    That was an iBook though, this may be different to your problem (you hope).
    I certainly hope! I was planning to get a mac mini soon to setup a kind of media center. I was one of the unlucky ones with the iBook problem, so this is very bad news if the Mac minis are having the same problem!
    Good luck! Keep us posted if you make any progress.

  • Macbook Pro will not reliably connect to our wifi router  - any suggestions?!

    Hi
    My partner has recently bought a second-hand (but fully functional) Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5.8 to set up in our home office.
    Our wireless router is not in the same room (it's in the living room via the hallway) but no other computer or device in the house has any problems detecting and connecting to the router.
    My partner's pc netbook and my iPhone 4S connect fine all through the flat. My iMac (located in the office) also has no problems.
    We have managed to get the Pro connected to the internet wirelessly a couple of times in the living room (although not all the time) but as soon as it is moved into the office the connection cannot be found or successfully connected to.
    Can't help but think that there's some little setting or something that we've not done that is causing the problem - seems odd that all the other devices connecting have never had any issues! I'm not completely technically minded, but have had enough experience with computers to feel fairly confident on them - just wondered if anyone might be able to suggest anything?
    The Network Preferences pages don't seem to be any help to me - I've tried several things in there that would usually help to rectify a troublesome connection.
    Any help or advice would be so much appreciated - my partner bought this Macbook Pro to replace her netbook and a reliable online connection is paramount as she is designing websites etc. with it!
    Thanks,
    Jimbanzee

    Hi JohnTh
    Thanks for your suggestion (and apologies that it's taken forever for me to try this out and get back to you)!
    I think I've done what you suggested but I think my lack of computer knowledge is letting me down as it did not work.
    I went to Network in System Preferences whilst connected to the internet via Ethernet cable, and managed to connect to my router, I then locked the changes, removed the cable and then restarted but straight away upon logging in, it had lost the changes and was unable to find the wireless connection.
    To be honest, it will not always find it when the ethernet cable is plugged in - in fact, I've witnessed it go from green light connection, having found the router and getting an ip address to amber without the ip address to not being able to locate the router (all whilst still plugged in on ethernet) within the space of about two minutes!
    I'm a bit hazy on the details of your suggestion when you say:
    Go to the wireless setup from here, and change the name to something that you can recognise. Make sure that it is password protected. Save it so that it'll write itself to its flash memory (your network will briefly not work).
    I went to the Network page of System Preferences straight away - is there somewhere else I should do the wireless setup? Our wireless connection is (as it is on my iMac which connects fine wirelessly) protected with a WPA2 Personal password.
    How do I save it so that the setup will write itself to it's flash memory? Sorry not sure where this is!
    I have also tried to remove the 'remembered' network from the advanced airport settings using the '-' button and then adding it '+' back in, but this also does not seem to work.
    We are planning on upgrading the operating system from 10.5.8 once we can get a secure connection - my partner is happy that she can connect to the internet via Ethernet cable but she is wanting to sell her PC netbook (in order to part fund the purchase of the Macbook Pro) and she's not happy to do so until she can connect wirelessly successfully!
    Finally, thanks for all your help and suggestions - really appreciate it and hope to find a solution!

  • SSL VPN Full Tunnel - Not Reliable

    We have been trying to deploy SSL VPN on a 3825 router running 12.4.20T2 with Anyconnect V2.2.0140. It works normally for a few days, then begins to fail in different ways. First, the users do not get the login screen from the Web access. This can be reset by stopping and starting the service. However, now I get fully connected and in a single session, sometimes I can access network resources and sometimes I can't (comes and goes to various parts of the network). I know if I reboot the router, everything will be fine for a few days. I also run Client VPN on this same router and it is very stable. Whenever I call TAC, the first question I get is "Do you have an ASA that you can run SSL VPN on?", and everytime I ask if they know something about the reliability of SSL VPN on IOS. They always say "it should work".
    I guess what I am asking is, are there known reliability issues with full tunnel SSL VPN on IOS? Or, if anyone else has seen these kinds of problems and found solutions? Thanks!

    Please enable the following command and then try to connect:
    ip inspect log drop-pkt
    If I am not overlooking at the configuration, it seems to be ok, so I would like to check ZBF.
    Please check the logs generated by the Router and let me know if you see anything related to your connection.
    Thanks.

  • WWAN is not reliable in X250

    Well, I spoke too soon about the "working perfectly" part in my previous post. If you close the lid (to sleep) while the Sierra EM7345 WWAN is Enabled, the computer crashes reliably next time you open the lid. Generally the crash is a BSOD with an unhandled exception in vwififlt.sys.
    This happens whether Mobile Broadband is on or off in the network settings panel. It happens the same way whether plugged in or on battery power. It happens the same way whether wifi and ethernet are on or off.
    Sometimes the driver disappears from Device Manager, replaced by either a CDC device or an unknown USB device. Sometimes restarting will fix this, and sometimes it won't. If it doesn't, you have to reinstall the driver to get it working again.
    The only workaround I've found so far is to Disable the Sierra EM7345 Network Adapter in Device Manager when done using it, then enable it next time you need it. Not very convenient. I wonder if there's a way to automate that.
    The EM7345 driver and firmware are the most up-to-date from Lenovo's web site.
    Has anyone tried removing the Sierra WWAN card and replacing it with something else?

    I am working on a better work-around. There are several alternatives I am trying.
    1. You can enable the EasyResume feature under Lenovo Settings. If you close the lid while this is enabled, the computer goes into a power state that is more than sleep but less than idle. It comes back in less than 1 second when you open the lid, and the WWAN driver doesn't crash but remains connected. Unfortunately, this lasts for only 1 hour, after which the computer goes to sleep. If you open the lid after that, you get the blue-screen-of-death (BSOD). Note: from what I've read this feature only works on SSD systems (which I have), not regular hard disks.
    2. You can set the computer to Hibernate when the lid is closed. In Edit Power Plan, Advanced Settings, you need to Allow Hybrid Sleep and then set the Lid Close Action to Hibernate. When you open the lid, it takes 5-10 seconds to resume. The WWAN reconnects immediately, faster than I can swipe my finger to log in. And it doesn't crash (so far). This option is not compatible with EasyResume; once you change the Lid Close Action, EasyResume disables.
    3. You can set the computer to Shut Down when the lid is closed. When you open the lid you have to push the power button to start the computer, and it takes about 10 seconds to boot and another 10 seconds for the WWAN to reconnect.
    The option that works best for me is #2 since it preserves the system state including open apps, so I'm going to try this for a few days to see how stable it is. Since I plan to use the WWAN a lot, I'll set the computer to never sleep under any conditions.
    I am not sure how long Hibernate takes to resume on a HDD system, so it might not be as practical there. Someone else will have to try it.
    One thing I've already noticed about the Sierra is that it holds its connection well even with a weak cellular signal. The GPS seems to work well too, although it does not have a compass so apps depending on a compass do not work.
