E2500 Router Cisco Connect Guest Only

I have a laptop running Windows Vista.  I had to reformat the laptop recently and when I tried to connect to the wifi internet it only lets me connect as a guest.  I feel this is not as secure.  What do I need to do to be able to connect to the more secure side of the network?  I tried to reinstall from the CD but couldn't.  And I accidentally deleted the "Cisco Connect" from the memory key I used for the original install.  Thanks in advance for your help.
Bob

I tried what you suggested & it didn't work.  I used the "Cisco Connect" key on the problem laptop and it got up to 25% install & then I got the message that I needed to contact your website.  What's odd is that my son's laptop (an IMac) & my laptop (Win 7)  connect fine to the secure router.  But on the problem laptop we have to connect to "guest" every time we want to get on the internet.  On the "Connect to Network" window, it says the secure router is connected but it's an "Unidentified network."  Please advise.  Thanks for you help!

  • Wireless B Broadband Router (BEFW11S4) connects for only about 5 mins at a time

I have Wireless B Broadband Router (BEFW11S4). Worked fine for about 2 years. I've had a HP Pavilion for about a year now using the wireless and also have a desktop I use on it (wired). About a month ago the speed seemed to be lagging a little and the router was never secured with a password, so I changed that and added a password. Ever since then the laptop will not stay connected for more than about 5 mins. I have gone back and removed the password protect feature, but still have the problem. It has a problem connecting to the router. The signal bars always seem to be full, but still can't connect. I've tryed reseting the router, unpluging everything, etc and can't get it to have a steady connection like before. Sometimes I can connect to the internet even when it says "Not connected" in the wireless network connection 2 screen. I've tried to search and find a similar problem, but was surprised to not be able to find one. Any insight will help.
    Thanks,
    Lman

Thanks for the suggestions Wizzard. Although I did not know what all that stuff does, it didn't seem to help. I didn't not upgrade the firmware because there didn't seem to be any upgrades since 2003, before I bought it. Any other suggestions from anybody? Could anybody make an educated guess to whether it's the router or the laptop?
    Thanks,
    Lman

  • After upgrade cannot connect to router- Cisco Connect advises "unsupported operating system"

With the upgrade I am unable to connect to my Linksys E1200 Router.

When you try to login at http://192.168.1.1, what happens?  What do you see on your browser?  Does it say invalid password, or does it not give you a login prompt at all?  And I'm not sure if you're problem is the wireless computer or the wired one...you say you have one wired computer, then you're saying that you use the same wire with the other one, and use the term "cables" so it's confusing what you're trying to do.  Do you have two wired computers, one working on the internet and the other not?  Or ???
Also, you can reset the router password to factory defaults by using the reset button on the back (press it for about 30 seconds, then release).  This will also set all your configuration back to factory defaults, too, so you'll have to re-enter all your settings, but it is possible that you changed the password somewhere along the way and forgot what it is.

  • E3000 Router without Cisco Connect

I just setup my new E3000 which in general is working great.  Being a Cisco geek at work, my first step was to connect via http and toss the Cisco Connect CD to the side.  After getting the basics setup to mimic my old Cisco 871W, I started to look into some of the whiz bang features on teh E3000.
The first one that I wanted to take advantage of was having a different SSID for the 5GHz band from the 2.4GHz band.  In the web interface this seemed simple to do, but although the SSID was showing up on my laptop I was unable to connect to it.  As soon as I made the SSIDs the same, my laptop connected to the 5GHz side or 2.4GHz just fine.  Is there some magic to getting this setup?
The other feature I wanted to setup was the Guest access.  Unfortunately it looks like this feature is hidden unless you use Cisco Connect and if you don't use 192.168.1.1 for your router Cisco Connect can't see it.  Am I missing something somewhere?

I initially had a different SSID for the 5GHz band and was able to connect my Wireless-N bridge to it without any problems. However, hours later, both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands flaked out, and now I can't get anything to connect to them. The wired portion of my router works fine. I'll be doing a firmware reinstall and 30/30/30 hard reset tomorrow. I assume it might be an issue with the firmware being 1.0. if it's not, it's being returned for another unit.
As for guest access, yes, you can only adjust it through Cisco Connect. There is no web UI option for it. If you change the password of your router, its default IP, and possibly its name, Cisco Connect will not work.
Cisco really screwed up this release. Hopefully the next firmware release will fix all of this.

  • How do I delete Cisco connect w/o the software?

I installed Cisco Connect about 8 years ago. Since that time, my router died, and I installed a new router. Also in the interim I completely discarded all of the software, as I had though, I had properly removed all remnents of it on my imac. Recently out of the blue, I have been recieving the message, please enter your "Cisco Connect guest password," several times a day. I don't know it, and certaintly don't need to enter it, since I am using a new router. How do I remove this intrusive software, from my computer.

Thankyou Jane, I'm an idiot. According to my network connections it turns out is my network, and I never replaced my router. Still I only use the main network, and never the guest network. I looked for the software, that came wt my router, and can't locate it anymore. That is why I thought that it was a new router. Still I don't have any need for the guest network. I couldn't figure out how to just delete the guest network. So I took a chance and removed all of the WiFi networks. I'm not exactly sure why, but my main network still operates on my device. Also my Bluray player is still able to access my main network. My computer and blue-ray might be working on my Xfinity WiFi, but the main network still displays on my sevice. Hopefully my computer doesn't ask me for the guest password anymore.

  • Cisco Connect will not open

I clicked on CISCO CONNECT in my programs and all I get is the popup window and "please wait" in the center. It's been awhile and it won't connect.
Is there something I need to do or something I can do to get this to connect?
Thanks for your help..this community board is very informative!

Are you pertaining to the Cisco Connect Guest Password? What is your router model? If you set up your router using Cisco Connect, you can find it there.
If you are pertaining to the password you use to access the routers web admin, default is to leave username blank and type admin as the password. If you initially set it up, the only way to recover it is to reset the router.
If you are pertaining to the Security password, one that you use to connect iphones, laptops etc wirelessly to your router, just login to the routers Web interface and you can find it there. Type 192.168.1.1 on your browsers address field.

  • Can't see USB printer option in Cisco Connect

Just fired up an e4200 router and was realy easy and everything working great HOWEVER I can a Canon MP490 printer that I have connected to the router via USB and Cisco Connect is only showing Wireless Printers as a connection option!!
I am on a MAC using OS X 10.7, have Cisco Connect Version 1.4 (12005.2) and the firmware updated today.
    Any ideas?

The Windows version has an option for "Printers" that leads to options for a wireless printer and a USB printer after Cisco Connect Installation where as in Mac you will get the only option for wireless. Since, Cisco Connect does not have an added feature of providing USB printing with the MAC OX.

  • Cisco Connect won't connect to E2000 router

I've had an E2000 router set up and working fine for years. Today I tried to connect to it with Cisco Connect, as I'd like to enable a separate guest network (incidentally, if there's a way to do this through the web management interface, please let me know!). However, the software fails to connect to the router; the progress bar gets to 25% and then eventually times out. I've tried from multiple computers on the network, both wired and wireless, with the same results. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi A_Generic_User.  I believe there's no way to configure the Guest network through the web ui. What you can do is try using the software that you can download from their site. Make sure to turn off any firewall on the computer when running the software to avoid conflict.  Also, I suggest that you run the downloaded software on a wired PC to avoid wireless interference. Here is the link to the software, http://support.linksys.com/en-us/support/routers/E2000/download . Hope this helps.

  • Cisco Connect - Where to find Guest Password

CAn anyone help me please. I just installed by router on my Tower but my husband's laptop keeps asking for a Guest Password. Can anyone tell me where I find this?
Thank you. a Cisco Guest Access window opens and asks for the password. I have the password and type it in on his laptop but it keeps saying it is incorrect and I have changed it on my tower and tried again but still it will not allow him access even though there is a connection.

    @ nekaufer
Guest access allows you to limit and provide access to guest users on your wireless network. Its configuration such as the password and the number of guest allowed is available through the Cisco Connect software and on the web interface  on selected Linksys models. By the way, what is the model of your router?

  • I just registered for cisco as a member will that allow me to access wireless router as a guest

I just registered as a cisco member will that allow me to access wireless router as a guest on the internet

What is the model number of the Router? Let me know the name of the ISP (Internet Service Provider)? In order to work with the Guest network you have to install the router first. For the setup process, you need to perform the following:
    i. Verify that there is an active Internet connection between the computer and modem
ii. Setting up the router using Cisco Connect

  • Question about VPN connections on a E2500 router

    Hello,
I am working with vpn setups for the first time, so I have some questions I would really appriciate some help with. I would like to be able to connect to a computer on a home network through a linksys E2500 router. I have found alot of documentation on connecting to an external vpn from a computer on the lan side of the router, but nothing on connecting from the outside in. The router does have a static ip address with my internet provider, so I can contact the router from the outside. But makeing the connection to the computer on the other side of the router is where I am missing something or I dont realize that it is not possible. On the lan side I am using DHCP to assign the address to the computer I want to connect to. Perhaps I need to make it have a static address also? I realize that when I configure the connection from the outside that I need to direct the connection to the remote computer in some way, unless vpn connections are fully passed through the router and the connection issue I am haveing is with the "inside" computer.
    Other info:
I am using windows 7 for the vpn access
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Can't connect with modem through e2500 router

I have an old Speedstream 5100 modem hooked to my e2500 router. Everything works well except if for some reason my modem disconnects from ISP I can not log into it through the route to reconnect it. I must plug a direct cable into modem from computer run connect script then plug modem back into router all is fine again.
Any ideas why connecting to modem through router is blocked?

My Speedstream only has one Ethernet connection so I didn't realize that it looked like a router to the local network. I changed the mode to bridge on the Speedstream and setup PPoE on e2500 and reconnected to ISP on e2500 setup screen. That may solve the problem of reconnecting since now it is managed on the e2500.
One thing I now see is since I left the modem IP set to 192.168.0.X I can't get to it at all through the e2500. Is that because my DHCP in e2500 is setup with 192.168.1.X IP range so modem isn't addressed in my network? If I hook directly to Speedstream and change IP to 192.168.1.X will it become visible on local network?
You cannot access the modem anymore while you have an active PPPoE connection. For PPPoE the E2500 won't need an IP address from the modem thus it doesn't do DHCP on the WAN port and thus it never sees it. When you try to access 192.168.0.* addresses the E2500 will route it through the PPP tunnel to the ISP.
If you hook your computer directly to the SpeedStream it should automatically pick up a DHCP address (assuming the computer is still running on DHCP and not with a static IP and the SpeedStream does not automatically disable the DHCP server in bridge mode). If you have set up a static IP on the computer you have to change the IP address to a 192.168.0.* address.

  • Can I use Cisco Connect if I change the default router IP address?

I am adding my E3000 into an existing network behind a SonicWall firewall.  I am using an address scheme of 192.168.168.xxx  When I change the router address to 192.168.168.10 and disable DHCP in Cisco Connect, I am left with only being able to access the router through the web interface.  This seems pretty lame; I've read other threads on Web vs. Cisco Connect.  Is there a quick fix that will allow Cisco Connect to still find the router after I've made (just) these two changes?
    --David C

Yes you still will be able to use the Cisco Connect software if you have changed the Routers IP address, But if you change the Router password of Wireless Security then you wont be able to use Cisco Connect software.

  • How to connect 10.9 Mac to USB printer via E2500 router?

So I've established that Linksys Connect software is incompatible with a Mac running OS 10.9 Mavericks.
Is Linksys Connect the only way to connect a Mac with a printer connected to the E2500 router? Or is there another way to make it work?

New operating systems and older software always have compatibly issues. Recently firmware updates have been pushed out. Maybe one will come for the E2500.
In a business environment you would normally share out the printer from a server or PC. Sharing from a router will be problematic.
How about the reverse; sharing the printer from the MAC to the PC? Do you have an old computer lying around you can turn into a Printer server? I just had a thought, there are actual printer server devices made for this as well.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.
