E2500 router seems to be losing power

I have an E2500 router and a D-link range extender.  When we bought the range extender, it broudcast the signal throughout the house.  Recently, I we are not picking up the signal on the range extender.  That seems to be because the range extender is not finding the original signal from the E2500 router.  I have tried resetting the range extender without success.  I conclude that the signal coming from the router is not robust enough.  The problem seems to be getting worse over time. What can I do?  If should replace the router, can anyone recommend a more powerful model that won't have the same problems?  I am a non-technical person so I may need more explanation than some other people.

You may want to adjust the router's wireless channel to improve its connection to the network. Try channel 6, 9, 11, and 1. Also, relocate the extender to its final location. Place it somewhere halfway between the router and the remote wireless devices.
Here's an article that may help:

But if you're looking for a faster router, go and check any of the newer models of the EA router series.

  • Router appears to be losing my IP address twice a day, what to do to fix?

After having a smoothly running network for over one year, for some reason my router seems to be losing my IP address. This is fixed by simply unplugging the router and plugging it back in, but what a pain to do twice a day when I didn't have to before.
Fast facts that I have tested.
    1. Problem occurs 1-2 a times a day
    2. When problem occurs my home computer, and my laptop both show that they are connected at the proper internet speed...just when you click on the internet it comes up as can't be found.   In other words I lose all my internet connection capability (including both ethernet land lines and wireless) until I unplug and replug in router...but pc SEES connection.
    3. If I directly from the modem to the pc (bypassing the router) everything works fine. (except I can't support a network that way)
    4. I normally and have for 3 years put my Sony PC to sleep...never turning it off. In other words I'm not doing anything differently.
    5. The router is a linksys WRT54G.
I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why it would just "Decide" to start doing this. I haven't loaded any new programs except for something that was called an Apple softward update. But I don't remember the problem starting just after that.
I also did a "system restore" where you go back a few days (or weeks) which can usually undo issues like this...but no luck.
Anyone have this happen before? Any suggestions?

about the SES network that you see on your laptop...
you or somebody else might accidentally pressed that secure easy setup button at the front panel of your router...
    and regarding your ip problem..
try to upgrade the firmware of your router..

  • Wifi losing power and disconnecting

    Hi,
My mid-2014 MacBook Pro keeps disconnecting from wifi intermittently, whether in use or in stand by. I reset the wifi and it reconnects after some time searching. The errors in the wifi.log each time this happens are below. I suspect there's a problem with the wifi adapter circuit so it's actually losing power, but I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and found a solution that didn't require a replacing the hardware?

Wifi problems seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following can help although, unfortunately, not always. In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
    Reboot the router

  • Losing power/signal and no internet connectivity for WRT54G2-RM

Just installed router and using Motorola SB5101 cable modem and Comcast.  Followed instructions  and the router has lost losing power and needing restarts a few times.  Have it installed by ethernet cable to my desktop, and using laptop (XP Pro Thinkpad P42).  Cannot get internet connectivity and also loses wireless signal connection.  I know there are a number of similar posted issues, and I am new to this forum.  Any ideas?

Download and upgrade your router's firmware, reset and then re-configure it...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Help for my new E2500 router port forwarding

My home web hosting used to work. But because of changing ISP from Verizon to TWC, TWC gave me a modem-router and I bought my own Linksys E2500 router. Both Verizon and TWC services I subscribed are Dynamic IP. I use a third party to redirect the web traffic to my home.
TWC gave me a simple modem-router in a box. Input is coax and outputs are 4 ethernet ports. I use one of the 4 ethernet outputs of the TWC box to connect to the internet ethernet input port of the E2500. All my wire and wireless devices are now feeding off the E2500. All wireless and wired devices work and can browse internet through the E2500.
I have assigned one computer as the web server and set the internal IP addess of this computer as 192.168.1.128. This is the same for the setup with Verizon before.
I loaded the CD came with the E2500 router and can see the LAN 192.168.1.128.
My problem starts from here, I do not know how to set the port in E2500 to make the web traffic to 192.168.1.128
    1. Using the E2500 CD, I click to "APPLICATION AND GAMING", then "SINGLE PORT FORWARDING". under the APPLICATION NAME, I select one of the box to HTTP and type in 128 under "TO IP ADDRESS". I then click ENABLED, then "save settings" . The 192.168.1 is fixed in this window, I can only type 128.
This does not work. I can browse internet but cannot access my website from any machines using domain name.
    Then I tried:
    2. with item 1 above, I continued to do SETUP>>BASIC SETUP>>DHCP RESEVERSATION. I can see the compute/sever name and the 192.168.1.128. I then click the "select" and save the client.
I restarted the computer/server, I unplug and plug the E2500 power. I check the server internal IP address and it is still the same. But I just cannot browse to my website. I can browse other places.
Any idea of what is wrong on my doing? Please help.

Your modem is a router. Any incoming internet requests end at the modem/router. You have to configure port forwarding on the modem/router first before the E2500 will see anything incoming from the internet.
    Alternatives:
    1. Set the modem/router into "bridge" mode which turns it into a simple modem. Then you can connect directly to the internet with your E2500.
    2. Set up the E2500 as simple access point and keep the modem/router as your main and only router. Then all forwarding is done on the modem/router.

  • Hooking up a cisco 3550 48 port switch to my E2500 router

I am trying to assign an IP to my 3550 switch so I can telnet into it from my computers upstairs but, when I assign the IP to a vlan on the switch and set the port going to the router to access that vlan I still can't see anything pull in the DHCP table on the E2500. The other thing I am not sure about is what I should be setting my default route to is it the 192.168.1.1 or is that just the management IP for the E2500 router? I am pretty sure this is just a case of the E2500 can't deal with the Vlans but with it being set to access it doesn't seem like it should matter it should just live in that Vlan. I can always put a 2600 in front of the switch but I rather not put in a 3rd piece of equipment if I can help it. Any advanced routing information would be appreciated.

If the swtich is a managed switch, it maybe in compatible with the LAN switch on the router as most "home" class routers do not have manged LAN switched for connectors.
I recommend that you contact Cisco about this and see if they have any help and information regarding this. If the management or "smart" features can be disabled on this switch if the has these features, it maybe still usable with the router.
Let us now how it goes.

  • E2500 router random reboots

I have a E2500 router that until recently has been working fine, the router currently will reboot at random occasions. I have tried resetting the router to factory defaults to test if the firmware was an issue but both the factory default and the most recent firmware build(1.0.05 build 2) offered on the download support page. I have tried 2 different AC adapters to test power and two different Cat5 cables so hard ware wise everything is looking good. I am concerned that it may be an issue still with firmware or with the cooling fan and the unit may be overheating.

I believed you already exhausted all troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue. Firmware upgrade should fix this but it did not. I’m thinking this device is for replacement.

  • New Internet Service, Do I Need to Reset E2500 Router?

I had temporarily used my E2500 router to work with a wireless broadband source by connecting it to a Cradlepoint CTR500.
Now I will be connecting the E2500 to run (permanently) with Time Warner Roadrunner using a Scientific Atlanta WebSTAR DCP 2100 cable modem . Since I am changing the source of the internet, do I need to reset the E2500 back to the factury defaults and then perform a new set-up on it using the Cisco Connect software?
The cable modem is currenlty connected via ethernet cable directly to the PC. I had read that removing the ethernet and cable connection from the cable modem and powering the modem down for 10 minutes will cause the modem to "forget" the PCs MAC address.  Once the PC's MAC address had been "forgotten", connect the modem's ethernet cable  to the router, which will make the modem pick up the router's MAC address, and eliminate the need for cloning the PC's MAC address. Does this sound correct?
    Solved!

Unplugging the power to the cable modem for 30seconds should be good enough. As for the router, you should be able to get by without a reset if it is set to DHCP for the internet connection type.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • K8N Neo Platinum, USB devices keep losing power

    I have a K8N Neo Platinum with a 3000+ AMD 64 chip...
I have a USB problem whereby my wireless USB adaptor just keeps losing power, when I look at the adaptor itself all the power has gone and no lights are on. Unplugging the device and re-inserting it does not get any response from windows. Also, after this has happened, my other USB devices (ie mouse) continue to work fine UNLESS I unplug them and re-insert them. If I do this they also will not power back up. I've tried various adaptors from Netgear and alll of them have the same problems, its like they are causing the USB on my system to fail.
This happens with both the motherboard rear ports and the case front ports and is really driving me mad. Running XP Pro SP 2
I have this problem a couple years ago, and now I've gone back to using the same machine after a reformat the same is happening again. I've installed the latest nFoce drivers and in device management I've turned OFF power management for the USB Root Hubs but it's still happening.
    Any ideas?

Check to see if there is a wire running from your Front USB ports to the #10 slot of your USB block which connects to the motherboard header.
USB connector block layout which corresponds to the pin layout on boards with the Intel spec for USB. Do not cut the pin on the MOBO. You are removing/cutting the wire to the connector block from the case.
    2 4 6 8 10(this wire, #10, not needed)
    1 3 5 7 9(filled/key)
If you find a wire leading to the #10 spot on the block, remove that wire. My block has tabs so that you can pull the wire out, or you could snip/cut the wire leading to that position--if you cut the wire, be careful to cut the correct one and cut it in such a way that it may be repaired if you make a mistake.  Make sure you wrap the wire, the exposed end/s, you remove/cut with electrical tape so as not to accidentally cause a short. I actually folded the wire back and wrapped it.
2 posts to read--Here and Here.
This seems to be a common issue involving many different case manufacturers. I don't know how it applies to other MOBO manufacturers, but in these forums it is not limited to a specific MSI model or supported chipset(Intel or AMD).

  • 8330 keeps losing power and rebooting

my curve 8330 keeps losing power and rebooting, does anyone know how to fix this, tried cleaning battery terminals but did not work.

I also have a 8330 and it does the same thing.  It randomly resets (like a master reset as it takes a long time to reboot) throughout the day.  I am a Canadian user and talked to Bell who told me I had to send the phone in.  I went to one of their stores and sent the phone away for 2 weeks.  I received it yesterday as it was "repaired".  I had it less then 24hrs and again it reset about 12 times during that time.  I am also not able to activate Enterprise since the repair.  My company exhausted it's options to help me set it up but they determined the is a hardware issue.  So The problem is worse now.  I have tried with and without media card and it doesn't change anything.  I have waste days with Bell trying to resolve this issue as technical support on the phone confirms that it is a hardware problem.  I have now had to take the phone back to Bell for repair again.  I am shocked with Bells attitude concerning this problem as I have talked to numerous customer service managers that tell me that I have a contract with them to provide the "service".  They don't seem to care that the hardware doesn't allow me access to their service.  I am also amazed that they don't care that a customer has to waste time on tech support phone calls and traveling to their stores to ship the phone back to Blackberry.  As well as my company that wasted time setting up my "loaner" phone then my regular phone after repair and then again a "loaner" phone when nothing was fixed.  When does Blackberry get involved and make the customer happy?  I am surprised that the cell phone providers can not issue a new phone when there is a hardware problem under warranty.   I was told by Bell that Blackberry typically needs to see the phone 5-7 times before they will issue a new one....  This translates to the customer doing 10-14 trips to the store and a large amount of time setting the phone back up each time...
Unless something happens fast, my company is buying out my contract with Bell and I will be switching to a competitive smartphone.  This is unfortunate as I like Blackberry but can not stand the support.  (since I can only talk to Bell as Blackberry won't talk to me directly and only directs me to my cell provider)
Very Frustrating.  But a hardware problem for sure.

  • How to load Cisco E2500 router software to Mountain Lion

I have a MacBook Pro.  After struggling with a setup of a new Cisco E2500 router, I discovered the cd's software was incompatible with Mountain Lion.  I understand there was a Cisco software update but the update isn't available for the 2500 router.  I found the router's IP address.  It's 192.168.1.1.  Can anyone tell me - in plain English - if I can install the software without the cd.  Please tell me how in the same plain English. I did see a forum mention that if one does use the IP address, one should not change the factory provided ID and password.  Since both provided ID and password are "admin", and if the comment is true, then that won't work because it's as good as leaving the router unlocked. Does anyone know if the comment is true?

Router setup is not my forte; however, my instinct tells me that you will need to set it up - the other question is (and, again, not my forte): my ISP allows me to have one router. If I want another, I have to set up the first one as a "gateway" to send the signal to the second one (essentially as an extender which you said did not work). You might want to check with your ISP (the building internet provider) on how to get to routers working and/or someone with networking expertise may reply here (I can't tell from your post category, but there is a subcategory in the Mountain Lion forum specifically for networking problems:)
