E3000 / DishNetwork Issue

I need some assistance.  I am trying to connect my DishNetwork DVR up via a wireless link to the E3000.
My home network consists of a Linux Server acting as a router/gateway for a DSL link, with several pc's (XP/MAC/Linux) connected on a local 10/100 lan.
The existing lan addressing scheme uses static IP's and the DVR requires a DHCP link.
I thought the E3000 would solve that issue by using it's DHCP server capability to host the DVR wirelessly and integrate it into the rest of the lan.
Not so easy though...I set up the DHCP and reserved an IP address, which the DVR pick's up just fine, but  although I can ping the gateway and DVR in both directions, I am unable to access the internet.
I've tried to set up a static route, but I think I'm not doing it correctly.
Here is the addressing scheme (subset)
Linux Gateway :  192.168.10.4
Vista: 192.168.10.5
WinXP: 192.168.10.14
MAC: 192.168.10.7
Linux Fileserver: 192.168.10.100
E3000: 192.168.10.2
E3000 DHCP Server address Range 192.168.10.10 - 192.168.10.15
E3000 DHCP reserved address (for DVR) 192.168.10.121
Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I want to make sure that I executed your instructions correctly:
This is what I now have:
Linux Server/Gateway :   192.168.10.4
Connected to 10/100 hub
E3000 Internet Connector Connected to Uplink Port of hub
E3000 Internet Setup - Static IP : 192.168.10.10
Mask : 255 255 255 0
Default Gateway: 192 168 10 4
DNS1 : some address
DNS2: Some other address
E3000 Network Setup - Router Address: 192.168.15.1
   mask:255 255 255 0
DHCP Server enabled
Address: 192 168 15 100
max users = 5
IP Address range 192 168 15 100 to 104
dhcp reservation: dishnet dvr 192 168 15 121
Saved / rebooted
Is that correct or did I misunderstand?
DISHDVR re-connected to network and it has acquired IP Address as specified above, as well as DNS addresses
But still not able to see internet.
Before I was trying to use LAN/LAN networking keeping everything in same IP address scope - is there a way to do that?
Thanks.

  • E3000 Bizarre Issue... WIRED Blu-Ray Player Causes WiFi To Be Disabled

I have had numerous issues with my E3000 since I got about two months ago and they have all been resolved with the exception of this new one that popped up today.
My Samsung Blu-ray player is connected firectly via ethernet cable to the router.  When it's on, I lose all conenctivity to the router with my wireless devices including three PC's, a PS3, two iPhones, one iPad, one Samsung Smart TV, one XBOX 360 and an Onkyo Receiver.  When I say that I lose connectivity, I don't mean that I lose access to the Internet.  My PC's see the network but cannot connect to it, the same goes for the Apple devices.  The moment I shut off the Samsung BD player it kicks right back on and works normally.  Until today, this never occurred.
I contacted Tech Support and they had never heard of this happening before.  They suggested that I change the ethernet cable which I did while the unit was on and it worked until I turned the BD player off and turned it back on again.  I also tried switching ports to no avail.  Alos all of the software is up to date on both the router and the BD player.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?  I'm going to call Tech Support back on this again but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone else has had this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Well, try the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • E3000 Connection issues. - Overheating?

Hi all, I have a E3000 hardwired to 2 pc's and then several devices connected wirelessly (ps3, wii, iphone, printer).  The router is connected to a surfboard motorola cable modem.
After about 1 week of using the router, I started streaming music from my pc to my ps3 last night.   After about 2 hours of this the router dropped all wireless connections and hardwired internet connections.  If I reset the router it will start back up and work fine for about 15  minutes, and then the same thing.  I have tested the cable modem directly to my pc and it works fine for days straight.
Only thing I've noticed is that the router is pretty hot.  If I put a fan on it it doesn't drop connections and seems to work fine.  Seriously am I supposed to put a fan on this thing full time?  It's sitting on an open shelf under an AC duct with the temp set at 78 in the room, so it's not a ventilation or ambient heat issue.  Whats the deal here, andy feedback?
    Key points:
    1. It's not a wireless network issue.  With no devices connected it will drop my hardwired pc
    2. it's not a cable modem issue.
    3. It only seems to work if a fan is on it.

I had an issue with a WRT610N dropping the Internet signal every half hour. The Internet stayed down for about 2 - 3 minutes, then came back on again. I got some ping monitoring software and charted the signal losses. Every half hour, 24/7, it dropped the signal. It was a Version 1 router so I upgraded the firmware. It kept dropping every half hour.
I connected directly to the modem, bypassing the router - no signal loss.Checked cables, no problem with them.
So I figure, had it for two years, maybe it went bad. Fine; I go get an E3000. Runs fine for 2 days; I think great, problem solved. But just three hours ago, it started again. Every half hour, the signal drops for 2 - 3 minutes.
This is getting me enraged with frustration. This absolutely should NEVER happen. I go searching on the net and find this ZD-net article -
    http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/cisco-hot-router-check-it-and-see/14451
Then I read cnet reviews and it confirms the gist of the article - the router is overheating, and it results in it dropping the signal!!

  • E3000 connection issue

I have a cisco cable modem connected to Time Warner, and an e3000.   I try to network all my stuff, but it seems that once a week internet access gets lost...and not knowing why I re-boot the pc's and router..today could not get out of the router...hardwired a laptop to the cable modem and it was fine, but once connected to the router - no  internet...seems to happen with increasing regularity...
I use the router wireless for laptops, iPhones, XBOX, PS3, iPad....I hardwire to the router  for a Vonage device, and a sling box device that ties to a remote slingbox receiver providing internet access to another PS3, TV, and DVR...everything works fine usually, but as mentioned ...it all tanks about 1x a week... could it have to do w/ a WD backup running weekly?
    thanks

could also be overheating... where did you put your router by the way?  it needs enough ventillation in order to work fine.

  • E3000 - connectivity issues/questions

For the past few days, I've been experiencing a few different problems with my E3000 Router.  The first one is a general question that I'm not finding an answer to, the 2nd and 3rd may be related.
First - How do I change the network name that the Router came with?  If I understand correctly, this is a random preset name that all E3000s come with.  Mine happened to be "TinyFish".  I've already changed the router name and everything in the Linksys control panel area... but that default name persists.  I see it when I connect to the network on my home wired PC.
    Second/Third -
In the last three days, when I come home and turn my PC on, I log in, and it hangs on the "Welcome" screen.  I can fix this easily by hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL, and opening something like the Task manager.  This seems to have started when the following began...
... I have to reset my router every day now.  I turn on the PC, and I am connected to the router, but not to the internet.  I can fix this by unplugging the router and plugging it back in, or going into the router and renewing my IP with my ISP.
The "welcome" hang seems to be related to not having internet access... I don't think that's a separate problem.  It's not even explorer.exe that's hanging. CTRL-ALT-DEL, and bam, right to the desktop with no sluggishness or lag.
    Any thoughts?

for your first inquiry, are you referring to the wireless network name or the SSID? you may easily change it by accessing the router setup page. make sure you use a wired computer when doing this.

  • E3000 Setup Issue with Xbox 360

I just got my new router and went to setup it up. I put my laptop next to the router and followed the directions on the disc, once the install was done i could not access cisco program on the laptop. I decided to access the web base setup panal to get the 5ghz channel set up for my Xbox and leave the 2.4 channel alone.
My xbox shows that it is connected to the router but it won't get past the internet portion of the test.... I have found no posts about this issue, and plenty of port forwarding posts. Anyone think that port forwarding would help this matter?? I have 1 xbox 360 that i want on the 5 ghz channel and the rest of my stuff i had setup on the 2.4 ( ps3, ipad, ipod, laptop ) . At one point i couldn't even access the internet from those items. I did a full reset on the router and tried installing the program again with no joy...
I reconnected my old router for the time being and it all worked fine ( WRT110 model )....  I am out of ideas

Its always worth a shot, but i ran into sorta the same problem with the WRT110, when i tried to run it on N only for the Xbox.... Thats why i got this one so i could run my xbox on N 5ghz and the rest on B/G 2.4.... Thanks for the feedback, i will give it a shot and see if there was somthing i missed.

  • E3000 connectivity issues

Pages often fail to load on any wireless client on my network.  It almost seems like a name resolution problem.  I have no wired clients so I cannot speak to that, but I suspect the same problem because my printer is not accessible by its "name" anymore, but it is available by its IP address.  It seems like it is a DNS problem.  I have tried to fix it by changing the DNS provider in the router setup, but it doesn't seem to matter if use Google, OpenDNS, or my ISP's DNS - it just often tends to not work.
I'm stumped.  Do I have a defective router?  I have also tried reboots, and that doesn't fix it either.

It seems that wireless connection might be dropping.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable and try to access the Internet. If you face the same problem with the wired connection then Internet connection is dropping.
In this case bypass the router and connect the computer to the modem. Try to access the Internet directly through the modem and make sure that it is working properly through the modem.
If the wired connection is working fine then try changing some advanced wireless settings on the router. Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Click on Advanced wireless settings. Change the beacon Interval to 75, RTS and Fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.

  • E3000 - firmware issue

Borrowed E3k from a friend to see if it was better than my aging DLINK. Very disappointed in the quality of the FW.

I use OpenDNS and yes, I put their 2 addresses in the static fields in the router.  Those passed fine, but the router also passed a 3rd DHCP DNS field which turned out to be my ISP one.  That defeats the purpose of using OpenDNS if random DNS hits are to a 3rd non-OpenDNS server.
https for admin access on this router is just flat broken.  I was able to get in from my iPhone only.  Not my Win 7 computer in any browser, not my Android phone or my Android tablet.  This is widely known and discussed on this board from my research.
As for the printer, it's wireless and works on my D-Link out of the box.  On the Linksys out the box the correct address is assigned but no print jobs get through.  When I uninstalled the driver thinking the network address change had screwed it up, then the print driver install could no longer see the printer.  I tried turning off SPI and a few other things, but got fed up and went back to my D-Link.  Printer re-installed on frist attempt.

  • E3000 wired/wireless issue

    Hi all,
I have recently got myself a new cable modem and decided to replace my old router with a Linksys E3000. I have CAT5E wiring and a patchpanel to connect all rooms in a wired manner and in addition, a couple of wireless laptops, consoles, telephones, etc.
All wired connections go to port 1 through 4 on the E3000 and the cable modem is connected to the internet port. I have, obviously, setup the wireless part.
    The following applies:
    1) I can access all devices (wired and wireless) from my router (diagnostics page)
    2) I can access the router and the internet from my wired devices
    3) I can access the router and the internet from my wireless devices
    4) I can access my wireless devices from my wired devices
    5) I can _not_ access my wired devices from my wireless devices!
I noticed there's an isolation option on the router to isolate wired from wireless, but it's turned off. Besides, that option would probably cause 4 to not work either.
The routing table seems to be fine as well:
    Destination LAN IP

Is this a bug or am I missing something obvious in my configuration?
I hope someone has tips for me, as it's rather frustrating to have a network and not be able to access your primary servers.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Jeffrey

That is not solving the problem.
Example: I have a Windows Laptop with putty on my wireless side of the E3000, which issues 192.x.x.x IP address.   I have a Linux server I cannot access via from the wireless laptop.  WHY?!?!  I am also forced to use the Guest Access or the no access from it or my other laptops cannot access any network.
I need to learn how to issue my network IPs from my WIRED side of the E3000 so my wireless gear can reach my wired servers.
My work around is setting up an access point with my prior router and disabling the wireless network from the E3000.
This is very frustrating problem.  I cannot access my wireless servers where my media is for my TV and other gear.  Please tell me this product doesn't have to go back to the store.

  • Wireless N only running @ 54mbs...

I have for PCI WMP600n, and my router is a wrt120n, and for some reason my computer only connects at 54mbs, i bought wireless N to go faster.... so how do i make it go faster?  i think router specs are 150mbs, so my n card should be going 150mbs should it not?
    Please help, and thanks.

I have a similar if not same issue with an E3000 router and a new Gateway ZX6900 PC. No matter what i do, change channels, adjust advanced wireless settings, etc, the link speed will not go above 72mbs. Oddly enough I tried a borrowed Netgear 3300 router and the problem goes away and I get the 150mbs the PC on-board wireless is rated for. Secondly if I put DD-WRT 3rd party firmware into the E3000 the issue goes away. The problem appears to be with the stock E3000 given all of my testing.
I know this doesn't help but at least serves to back up your problem and points to a specific issue in the Cisco gear.

  • E3000 issue with VOIP caller ID

    Hi,
I have a E3000 with newest firmware that has a VOIP by Velcom. It's a Grand stream HT–286.
My device is working perfectly with the router. Can call and recieve calls. the caller ID (Name and number that appears is accurate). The only problem is the caller ID's time and date are always wrong.
When I unplug device, it goes back to Jan 1 and time 12:00am.
Any call I then get is wrong.
In the router, I've enabled SIP ALG. And the firewall is only filtering ident (port 113) and Anonymous Internet requests.
The device has a hard coded internal IP (192.168.123.110). and I reserve the IP using mac filtering.
The device has an administration page that is unavailable to users as it's locked by a password. On this page has an NTP server setting that the de vice uses to get it's time/date.I see on the information page of the device that iot's registered to a sip server.
The company is saying that it's a firewall issue. I'm not too sure how to proceed. I've searched the forums and haven't found anyone with this specific issue.
Anyone has had this problem before can could point me in the right direction?
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It's difficult to tell without knowing the configuration. But from what you write your voip device doesn't know the correct time. Thus, either it is supposed to use NTP but the NTP server isn't reachable or it is not even using NTP and the time is supposed to be set manually in the device. Maybe it's the latter and it has "lost" its time because of low running buffer battery in the device which keeps the clock going while switched off...
Whatever it is, so far is sounds to me like a problem with the device. Only if the router blocked access to that NTP server it would have been caused by the router. But I kind of doubt that...

  • E3000 Share/Master Browser issue

How do I turn off the network share on my E3000?
    What is hapening is this:
My Windows XP Computer and my WD TV Live can not see network computers and their shares (The E3000 is seen on the network only).  When I attempt to browse the workgroup in Windows XP I get 'error 53'.
It turns out that the E3000 is becoming the master browser when ever the computers on the network are shut off for a short period of time.  The E3000 does not do a very good job of being the master browser.
As a work around, I put the E3000 workroup to something different than all the other workgroup computers.
There is no question that the issue is with the E3000.  When I make a computer on the network master browser, the XP computer and the WD Live work fine.   I prove this by running nbtstat -a <netbios name>.
This does need to be fixed in the E3000 firmware.  I already upgraded to the latest (1.0.03)
Anyone have any suggestions on how to escelate this issue?

    Hi,
I had exactly the same problem after replacing my 3COM router to E3000.
I solved the problem by logging to the the web interface of the E3000 -> Storage -> Administration -> changing the group name from "Workgroup" to "WORKGROUP"
I have in my network 1 XP SP3 machine and 3 Widnwos 7 machines.
In the Win XP machine I was not able to browse the list of the machines but I was able to to browse the machince after entering the name in the address bar (i.e \\Tony-PC)
In the Win 7 machines I was not able to see only the Win XP machnice but entering the address was fine.
Changing the workgroup name from "Workgroup" to "WORKGROUP" in the E3000 as I mentioned solved the problem (even without any restarts and/or resets)
I spent almost 5 hours and I got crazy because of that silly thing.
I hope that this will help other people

  • Issues with E3000

Was wondering if anyone has changed their settings on the E3000 since upgrading the firmware. I purchased the E3000 about three weeks ago and worked great. However, it has been dropping internet connection. So I just upgraded the firmware and I am still dropping internet signal. Went through customer service and after they gave me their recommendations on changing the settings it just got worse. So I went ahead and did a reset. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

wrt to the heat issue, it might help to raise the router off the surface on which it rests to improve air flow.  I use some round circular rubber footers I bought from a hardware store to raise it about an inch or so.  For good measure, I also have a $9 circular fan I bought from walmart to blow air across the top of the router.
This makes my router cool to the touch, and I have had no issues with it.

  • E3000 + WD My Book Studio II 2 TB - (Windows) connection issue, need help

    Hello all,
Sorry for the long post :-)
I just purchased a new E3000 and a Western Digital My Book Studio II 2TB external USB hard drive to use as an USB NAS devixe using RAID 1. I connected the My Book to my notebook, and formatted it (NTFS) and set it up for RAID 1 per the installation instructions. I connected it to the E3000, set up users with admin r/w permissions, set up a shared folder called "server", allowing the use of the full partition (931 GB). Went into Windows 7 on the notebook, set up share permissions, logged into the Router, and mapped the "server" folder to Z:\, and I was up and running in about 20 minutes. I was really pleased with the ease of setup. Everything seemed to work fine, started moving files from my Windows 7 notebook to the My Book the suddenly.........nothing! After moving about 5 GB worth of files to the My Book, it just "disapperared". I can no longer see it, or connect to it. I can see the router on my network, but I see no shared folders. If I go into the router setup, and click on storage, I get an error message that says that the "USB device that I have connected is not supported". If I remove the My Book from the router and connect to the notebook, all of the files seem to be there, and I can access them, move, delete....etc. But when I connect it back to the E3000........nothing. Anybody have any ideas? It seems to me that this is a problem with the E3000, not the My Book. I have hit the reset button yet, but I did power everything down, and then back up with the same results. Is anyone else having issues with the My Book connected to the E3000 in a windows only PC environment. I just got the E3000, and do not know if I should RMA it if there is a hardware issue, or if there is an easier fix that I am not aware of.

Has anyone resolved this issue? I have version 1.0.4 firmware that I installed prior to setup. This is crazy. I bought this mostly to hang my hard drive as NAS on my network to stream media to an iPad or media player for my TV. The storage seems to be reliably reached by my network PCs but the Media Player seems to not only regularly dissapear by crashing, doesn't appear to scan the entire share partition. I get intermittent results, especially with folders containing large jpg jpeg photo files. In reality, most of the shared folders seem to easily find proper folders for Root Music, sometimes for Root Video, and almost never for Root Photos... any explanation as to why this media server crashes, and any info why it does not seem to work for jpg photo directories would be most helpful. Imam using a Samsung Story 1TB USB drive. Even if it sleeps, when using shared storage from my PC it does not appear to have problems automatically waking up. But for the Media Player, even aver a fresh scan and enable of the server, it still doesn't publish the directories for just photos, even ifni create their own share. HELP PLEASE io so want this to work. Thanks. Guy Gschlact

  • Linksys E3000 – WiFi Connectivity Issue

I usually have the 2.5GHz (B/G + WEP) and the 5.0 GHz (Mixed + WPA2-PSK) networks running. I have about two to three iPhones running on the 2.5GHz, one Laptop on the 5.0GHz and one desktop wired. Recently in the previous week I came across wireless issues on the E3000 Linksys Router when arriving home from work. My iPhone wasn’t connecting to the Network or my Laptop. It seemed as if the SSID wasn’t broadcasting. I went into the router and played around with it and didn’t find any issues with my user settings.
The router seems to broadcast the SSID for 2.5 & 5.0 sometimes [it disappears frequently] and when I’m able to attempt to connect it my iPhones plus my Laptop say “Unable to connect to network”. I’m not even connected to it wirelessly to manage the network. The desktop that is wired is able to connect stream internet across the modem though the router, this also goes when I wire my laptop as well.
I’ve made sure I have the latest Firmware: 1.0.04 & I’ve manually reset the router to factory defaults and still had the same connectivity issues. I’ve disabled the 2.5GHz broadcast and ran the 5GHz to make sure the connections weren’t conflicting with each other, which isn’t the case.
It seems I’m having broadcasting problems with the router and even resetting to factory settings aren’t working. I’ve noticed it’s not my devices that aren’t experiencing the issues because the iPhones and Laptop are having the same connectivity issue. My router is mounted to the wall and my modem is working perfectly.
Edit: The lights that are on & solid, during this problem is the Power + Internet + Wifi + Desktop(2)

I realize this is an old thread, but curious as to whether the firmware upgrade helped. My problem is similar, but a few things in my configuration changed over the past 2 weeks:
    1) I added a new Roku HD wireless to my router (2 days ago)
    2) I upgraded my broadband modem to the Comcast Arris TG862. I had them put this modem in bridge mode so that I could continue to use my E3000. (2 weeks ago).
    3) I noticed that comcast created an open network on my TG862 called xfinity wifi. I turned this off (yesterday).  Comcast does have an option for it.
Starting yesterday (after I turned off the comcast open network, I began to have problems on my 2.5 Ghz band on my linksys router. Never had these problems before. The network disappears, then re-appears. Somtimes I can connect to it but it's only a matter of time before it disappears again. 5 Ghz seems solid.
Last night, as a test, I turned my xfinity wifi open network back on, and all of a sudden my 2.5 Ghz was rock solid (at least for about 5 hours). It then disappeared again.
I will try the router firmware upgrade, but wondering if the Arris 862 could have anything to do with this. I'm not sure I trust comcast - particularly after they played that nasty open network trick on me.
    Thanks!

I prefer not to use Arris branded modems or modems with built in routers. I recommend that you check to see if you can get into a Motorola SB 6141 or similar modem model that is stand alone. Comcast support Motorola modems I believe.
I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.
Thank you for the suggestions. Security is WPA2/PSK. This has not changed.
A few questions. With regard to your last paragraph, even if I got a bad data flow from the ISP modem, I would still expect my router to be visible (or am I mistaken). I think, in the past, I've completely turned off my ISP modem and I could still see my router - just had no internet connection.
I'll look for other wifi routers - it just seems so darn coincidental with turning off that xfinity open wifi. I've always noticed other wifi signals in the area, I didn't actually notice any new ones (other than that silly xfinity one).
One thing I did do, I did remove an AP I had connected to the router when I set up the Roku because it seemed like it was un-necessary once I switched to the Arris modem. I just disconnected it... should it be degrown or something?
    Thanks!
