E3000 Dropping Some Clients Randomly - Constantly Resetting

We have an E3000 that we're using in a public spot to allow people to get online.  A variety of client platforms connect, from game stations to PCs/Macs, and portable devices.  Mostly the E3000 does a good job, but there's one problem which is becoming a pain.
At least once or twice a day we get a report that people cannot connect to the internet on their devices.  We ask around, and some can, some cannot.  They're all still connected to the E3000 and showing good signal, it just isn't carrying internet.  The few times I've checked, the devices having problems have a self-assigned IP address, rather than one from the DHCP server on the E3000.  I've seen cases where my iPhone is connected with no problem, but my iPad ,sitting right next to the phone, cannot access web sites.
The only solution we have is to then go back, power down the E3000, power it up, and wait.  That fixes the issue for a short time.
As you might imagine, taking the router up and down all day is getting tiresome, and I know this cannot be right.
One of our volunteers suggested that maybe the difference is the band of the devices.  My phone, for example, uses G, and my iPad N.  I don't see how that could be the problem, though, since they're both still connected to the router...  One just doesn't have a valid IP.  Still, I offer that up for confirmation or to be shot down.
Any help would be much appreciated.  We're on the verge of just replacing this with another box.

  Please note that my previous reply concerned wireless devices only.  Devices that are connected to the Ethernet ports of the router automatically have their MAC address registered which is required for packet routing.  Direct connected devices can get to the internet without using DHCP assistance only if they have been configured with an IP address that does NOT conflict with one dynamically assigned by the DHCP server on the router and is also configured with the router's IP as it's gateway and the correct DNS addresses.  Having come from an IT network environment I am a firm believer of using DHCP unless there are mitigating circumstances.
Also check your router to make sure it is using firmware version 10.0.4 as it contained fixes for it's Guest Network feature.

  • Windows 7 client randomly drops connection to the internet

    I have some clients having issues when they switch their connection from LAN to WIFI. It shows an yellow exclamation mark on the WIFI signal bar and shows no internet access. When the client loose connection, the IP address they are getting is shown below

    If I do a ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew , the problem fixes sometimes, but not all the times. But it comes back.
    Is there any permanent solution for this?

    I am still having issues. I have removed all the WiFi routers from the network except few access points for our Motorola mobile scanners. Pc's are getting disconnected from the network randomly and see the result of ipconfig /all from one of the affected
    PC.

  • Group Policy not work in some client machine.

    Existing environment is AD 2012. gpupdate /force command does not working in some client machine. And it's occur randomly. Error shown about 15-20% of client machine. Please suggest. Hopefully this time get reply from community.

    Thanks for your reply. basically this error occurs with in same location as well as branch location. i have check event log in AD but not got any specific error. AD health status is ok. AD to AD synchronization also working well. All the client machine running
    on windows 7 64 bit and few of them are windows 8.

    I recommend you examine the event logs upon an affected client machine. Specifically, look for the surrounding events on that machine (both System, and Application logs), for the hours previous and the hour after.
    The time period may vary according to your environment (e.g. what is expected/normal for your environment, your configured GP refresh cycle-time).
    e.g., are there network drops, or power drops, or system crashes, restarts at the similar time.
    if it's a laptop, is it wireless? Was there a transition from wireless to wired operation?
    Is there VPN in use?
    If you are able to compare with another machine (I would encourage that), to understand what "normal" looks like in the logs, so that you have some kind of baseline data for comparison.
    Other checks, maybe confirm that the machines are updating as required (have the relevant WindowsUpdates etc), and consider if some security/protection/firewall software might be interfering with normal Windows operations.
    Also the potential for malware or virus, which can disturb many basic services (ensure a scan is performed and returns clean).
    If you have the opportunity for an affected user to contact you urgently when the symptom occurs, check that the gpt.ini file is accessible from their PC.

    984F9}\gpt.ini
    This file is hosted within the replicated SYSVOL share on your DC's, so check that it is accessible.
    You might also validate the particular GPO this refers to, and check each of your DC's holds the correct copy of the files for that GPO GUID.
    If you open that GPO, and perform a minor change to it (e.g. add a comment), then click Apply, OK, this should cause the GPO contents to replicate an updated version (be cautious, depending upon the nature of that GPO !!!)

  • Intel Mac Mini constantly resetting then kernel panic

    I've got a Mac Mini that on start up just constantly resets, I've tried to boot from the OS X install discs but as soon as the installer starts to load I get a Kernel Panic.
    Can't think of anything else really, the machine's not been fiddled with or opened up. I've done the usual disconnect the cables and hold the power button reset but that doesn't help

    It's definitely not been opened, its kept in a locked room with a kensington lock on it. It's definitely the original Apple RAM.
    I've tried booting from some other Mac Mini install media and I get the same kernel panic.
    Need to get the machine back up quickly so I've been in touch with Apple who are just going to repair it under warranty.

  • AnyConnect clients randomly disconnect, reconnect

    We have been using our current configuration for some time, but recently most of the AnyConnect clients randomly loose connection, then reconnect. I have had the ISP and SonicWall look to see if they find any issue, but they do not. I have checked the event viewer on one XP machine and find numerous log entries regarding connection timeouts, etc. I have listed some below.   • Some Clients wont get DHCP Lease from xServe

    Hello,
    today we got some strange Network Problems. Some Imacs dont get a IP Adress from our Xserve (10.5). The Xserve tries to offer a adress but the Client wont get them.
    The log only says "offer send to xyz-hostname ip-adress"
    The strange thing is, when i spoof the Mac Adress on the imac. I get a dhcp lease.
    Is there some "Cache" we can reset ? Or simply reboot the Xserve ?

    Is it possible to run a report in PDF format ad email it to some clients after a specific event through Database Trigger. For example whenever a client makes an entry into order entry table (through entry form), a trigger should execute on Orders table, this trigger should execute or generate a PDF formatted report and finally mail it to Sales team?

  • IPod 5th Gen constantly resets and is not detected

    My iPod 5th Gen erased all my music and constantly resets when plugged in.  I've searched far and wide through support to no avail so I look to the community to aid my quest to load music to my iPod again.  Thanks in advance for the help!
    Situation:
    - music and all data erased suddenly and is currently in factory settings
    - when iPod is plugged in to computer, the iPod screen shows (in order):
         ° "connected, eject before disconnecting" (~5 seconds)
         ° off screen, completely blank (~1 second)
         ° apple logo appears as if restored (~5 seconds)
         ° repeat perpetually
    Attempted Remedies and Scenarios:
    - restore iPod via select / menu buttons
    - try running Disc Mode via select / play buttons
    - restore iPod via iTunes (cannot attempt because it is not detected under devices)
    - reformat and erase all data in iPod via iTunes (cannot attempt because it is not detected under devices)
    - reformat iPod via Disk Utility (iPod is not detected on Mac so cannot select)
    - attempted all of the above with the following variables:
         ° with pc running Windows 7, iTunes current
         ° with Mac mini running Mavericks, iTunes current
         ° with Macbook Air running Mavericks, iTunes current
         ° tried all USB ports on all above computers
         ° tried 2 separate 30-pin USB cables (both USB cables work with my iPhone 4s)
         ° iPod is fully charged
         ° restart all computers

    Hi everyone..  just found the solution... conveniently after I start a thread.  Turns out that my iPod nano had converted all 7.3GB of my 8GB into "Other" space and reset all my settings.
    Solution is as follows:
    - run disc mode while plugged-in (running Macbook Air)
    - restore dialog box appears via iTunes while in disc mode
    - restore iPod nano
    - upload music
    - enjoy

  • SCCM/WSUS 2007 01-2015 Bulletin Patching issue. Some clients patch just fine, some will not download the content.

    Bit new to the admin side, so please excuse some ignorance.
    We have approx 6000 end points.  We setup this months patches and a couple out of cycle ones we noticed.  We are getting a TON of clients that will not patch.  They are getting the defintions but when we attempt to run the advertised
    patches they fail approx 10 seconds later.  However, some servers on the same boundry will patch just fine.  We get the error message in the logs that when the client was told to download the content from the DP, it spits out error that content does
    not exist.  The DPs we believe are having the issues are MPs as well sitting in DMZ.  We have 2 sites configured basically the same, both DP/MPs in DMZ are the ones having the issues.  We have confirmed clients are able to connect anon to the
    DP/MP.  But again, some clients are patching just fine.
    UpdatesDeployment.log has the following warning listed 7 times.
    Not refreshing update presence state as error CI Info status received
    But yet does see that it needs 7 patches.
    EnumerateUpdates for action (UpdateActionInstall) - Total visible updates = 7
    No other logs show any errors on the clients.  I have confirmed the content is avalible on the DP/MP it is reporting too. Obviously though since other clients sitting right next to them work still.
    Any ideas?  Trying to avoid working all weekend.  Thank you!

    We checked every single log on every MP, DP, SS and many clients.  For unknown reasons, deleteing and rebuilding the Jan update list did the trick.

    Move the Cache.db (or ApplicationCache.db) file from the com.apple. Safari folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac. Launch Safari. Try the back button.

  • After ApplyMRD  Report Rows on some clients are not refreshed

    i've come across an issue regearding mr delete on some clients using ie for acess to an apex application.
    a report displays a number of rows of a single table.
    the user is able to check some rows.
    a special button branches to an url "javascript:confirmDelete(htmldb_delete_message,'MULTI_ROW_DELETE');"a standard mrd process, using table pk, deletes the checked rows.
    most of the clients work fine.
    on some clients the deleted rows still appear in the report. the shown data will not be refreshed untill user logs out and logs in to the application.
    i double checked that the rows are physically deleted from the table.
    any idea if this is an ms ie issue and whch option has to be changed?
    and no, customer can't switch to ff because of administrative policy.

    That could happen if region or page caching is enabled. If yes, disable it by setting it to never.

  • Some clients are not receiving my mail attachments.

    Some clients are not receiving my mail attachments. Other recipients of the same email DO receive these attachments. It doesn't matter whether it is a jpg, pdf, doc, or other. Sending from gmail or entourage works, only sending from apple mail is a problem.  This has been an ongoing problem for me in Lion and Snow Leopard. I'm new to this forum, so not sure I'm posting in the right area, but I've searched for an answer and can't find anything. Do I need a plug-in or something?  I like my apple mail and don't want to switch, but this is a real problem for me.  Help, please!

    We have the same problem in Snow Leopard, so the problem isn't new. I've been researching this for a while now. Based on what I've read in a whole load of discussions it seems it's an issue in the way Outlook reads the e-mails send by Apple Mail. I've no idea of the technicalities of this but one obvious difference is that Mail's default formatting is Rich Text and Outlook's is HTML, but what do I know.
    We've done variuos test with our PC based clients but with no success: Send as Icon; Window's friendly attachement; Mail Attachement Iconiser, etc. Nothing gets rid of the problem entirely. We're a Mac based Public Relations agency and we send image to the media all of the time...and we have no guarantees that they are getting through.
    It's frustrating that Mail doesn't have an option, as it does for plain text, to send in an outlook friendly way. To me it's a huge problem and if Apple isn't going to sort it, given that Outlook is the choice of Enterprise and 95% of our clients, then we're going to have to spend thousands and switch to Outlook. Apple have gone to great pains to promote cross-compatibility with PC's and perhaps this is one little example of where they could try harder.
    Mail has not had much obvious love and attention for a while and if there's an Apple employee looking in on this thread, perhaps it's time to love it up, give it a few more bells and whistles (without over-complicating of course) and make it sing with Outlook.
    My last attenpt is to try Thunderbird as a default mail client; I'm told it doesn't suffer from the same PC compatibility issues.

  • Duplicated IP error on some clients

    We have typical deployment with WLC550x (7.0.116.0) and 16 APs (AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9) placed on same site. WLC connected to 3560 (with LAG , and dhcp relay)  , and all wireless clients( Motorolla MC3100 handled PC ) work with same WPA2-PSK SSID. All APs configured as HREAP group and SSID has local switching and auth settings. DHCP server for clients work on Windows 2008r2 failover cluster, APs give addresses from WLC builtin server.
    Almost all works great.  But sometimes some clients go insane . After wake up,  they show duplicate IP error and wont connect to nework.  On DHCP server  this IP shown as leased to client mac(without any errors and so).
    Client reboot wont resolve this issue.
    After reboot client try another dhcp address (after marking dchp decline message) but also without luck, with same error and another IP.
    All this looks like client side problem . But when i try debug arp on root switch 3560  i get following situation.
    After client wake-up

    Where  0023.68cb.a8fc problem clent mac and   0023.68cb.a812,
    0023.68cb.a9b6, 0023.68c9.a29b    - another full working clients  MACs(with another ip address).
    Looks like another client (or ??  ap or controller) send ARP reqest with same IP right after problem client. How this possible ?

    Why you think so ?
    Reboot of controller resolve problem for some time.
    Clients work flawlessly when controller disconnected from network and APs in H-REAP mode. Also same clients (handles PC models) works  in online mode with wlc 4400 without problems.
    There are two difference in this deployment:
    1. wlc 5500 and 7.0 major release
    2. APs in  H-REAP mode and WLAN configured as localy switched
    From my point of view problem related with controller  incorrect  behavior(or I think so).
    Process of obtaining  ip addresses interrupted by  controller   for some unclear  reasons.
    1.Client obtain IP address from DHCP without problem(via dhcp relay on 3750)
    2. Client check that no one use it by sending  ARP request "ARP Who has address (leased from DHCP address here)"
    3. No response mean that address free.
    4. Controller interrupt process. By sending ARP resposne  "ARP  (leased from DHCP address here) used by (MAC of one of  client what used it in past)   "
    5. After this client show duplicated ip error.
    6. Controller log message
    %APF-4-REGISTER_IPADD_ON_MSCB_FAILED:apf_foreignap.c:1504 Could not Register IP Add on MSCB. Identity theft alert for IP address. Address:00:23:68:cb:a9:87
    I think this mean controller failed to update some internal table  with new ip-mac pair and prevent client work.
    But how disable such controller behavior I dont know.
    I disabled controller DHCP proxy , I disabled client ip learning in WLAN settings , I disabled any exclusion policies.

  • Custom Control Doesn't Load On Some Clients

    I have a LightSwitch application developed in Visual Studio 2012 that has been in production for several years without any major issues. The application has a custom control that has been included in the app from the very beginning. The app uses Silverlight

    I recently made a change and re-deployed the application to the server. This is not the first change deployed since the app was released. The custom control no longer renders when running the app on some clients. Not all clients are affected.
    This is only a problem when running the app from the production server. When I run the app from the development server, the custom control renders without any issues on all clients.
    When the app runs from the production server, I get the following in place of the custom control:
    How do I get the control to render when running the app from the production server?

    I recently updated to io6 and ran into FB notification not sounding. So I decided to do a backup like I have done many of times. Well doing this all my custom tones went by by...Never changing anything in itunes. They worked fine up until I restored. I did all the trouble shooting steps like normal for my custom tones. Re-synched and so on. text goes off...nothing, changed to a default tone worked fine then change back to custom tone worked, except for purchased tones those still don't work. I re-purchase one tone I already bought and now works fine. All are working again accept the original problem of the notification tone for FB still not working.

  • Some clients not logging in

    Hello,
    We have 20 Mac clients connected wirelessly via an AirPort Extreme. We have an Xserve, and it runs Open Directory, AFP, DHCP, and Software Update. All of our clients have been working fine until recently. Some clients shake the login window when all the correct information is provided (List of users, correct password). This has only happened to a few client, and I noticed that in Directory Utility, they were running LDAPv3 version 3.1, while the working ones were running 3.0. Also, sometimes the server DNS IP address must be entered twice as two different DNS servers on the client machine for it to work. Any suggestions?

    You may have tried this already, but sometimes it works:
    Log in as admin on the client, go to System Preferences>Accounts>Login Options and hit the 'Edit...' button for the Network Account Server. Delete the entry, add it again, save & restart the client.
    Good luck. Logs of both the client and the server may give you a good hint, but without them, we're shooting a bit in the dark.
