E3000 - Guest access without password

Hi,
I just installed a new E3000 wireless router and it works fine.
But i'd like to give my guests Internet access without having to enter a password.
I know how to change the -guest password but it requires a 4 digit minimum password.
Is there a way to remove it ?
Thanks

No. There's no way you can remove it. The least you can do is to make the password simpler like 1234 or something.

With the E4200, is it possible to setup the main SSID with a passpharse but have the guest SSID without a passpharse or password (ie access without security). If so, How?

Theres no way to remove the guest password without disabling the guest network.. Best is to make it simple like "guest" or "1234".

  • Ssh access without password

How do set up ssh access without password? I follow the steps below but didn't work:
    1. ssh-keygen -t rsa
    2. copy the id_rsa.pub to the remote host and rename it to authenticated_keys
    3. ssh-agent $SHELL
    4. ssh-add
    5. try testing:
    ssh <remote host> date
It still prompt for the password. Did I miss out some steps? Pls help if you know the asnwer.

May be you need to look sshd.conf (or like) file and edit it. If that does not solve the problem, you may need to consider .shost file as in casr of rcp and rlogin you configure .rhosts file.

  • IPhone5 can access guest network without password

I have just finished setting up the Cisco Valet M20 and tried to access the "guest network" using password. All devices connected to "guest network" were taken to a login screen for a password. All except the iPhone5. The phone was able to have connect wirelessly without having to go to the login screen and enter the guest password. I have tried changing "guest network's" password and resetting the network configuration of my iPhone5, still the same result.  My laptop, iPad and andriod phone did go  through the login screen for password. Is there a fix to this problem?

Since other wireless devices were working thru the guest network as they should, I believe it has something to do with the IPhone5. How about you try this workaround: disable the guest network, turn the M20 off for 10-15 seconds, once you power it back on, access the cisco connect software again and enable the guest network. On your iphone, try to reset the network settings again then try to connect to the guest network.

  • Remove guest access without using 'cisco connect'

    Hi all,
I just installed a new Linksys E3000 and was able to use "Cisco Connect" up until I decided to forgo the "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" and use manual settings.
Well, after having done this, I can no longer use Cisco connect, and I really want to get rid of the additional "-guest" network which seems to be tagged onto my main network.  Is there anywhere via the browser-based admin that I can get rid of the guest access feature?  If there is, I can't seem to find it.
I tried switching back to the  "Wi-Fi Protected Setup"  feature so I could go back to using connect, however it no longer seems to see my router when I try to connect to it, so this is no longer an option for me.  I'd really like to avoid reinstalling the router all over again.
    thanks for any info.

If you have configured your Router using the Cisco Connect software, then you it secure your wireless network with an password. If you have any firewall and antivurs software on your router then it will protect your computers against worms.
To use the FTP feature of your router you need to enable ftp login on your router, which you will find under the storage tab of your router.

  • ISE - Guest Access (without portal)

    Hi Guys,
I have a customer who current is using the cwa portal for guest access. Corporate use will be added in the future sometime next year.
    Kit involved:
    5508 - Internal (Inside Net)
    5508 - Anchor (DMZ Net)
    ISE - Inside Net
    3600 APs
Presently, guest user connects, anchored to DMZ 5508, issued IP address from server in DMZ and DNS redirect to the web portal from same server. guest logs in and internet access through ASA and then content filtering box.
They want a solution whereby they do not have to use the portal for corporate user with their own devices such as ipads. I know BYOD is a possiblity but would involve using a CA server on the inside of the network. This is not something I'm keen as it opens a channel from the guest network directly to their AD infrastructure.
I'm leaning toward PEAP authentication atm using a GoDaddy SSL cert that is already installed. This would bypass the portal system and only involve client devices being configured once.
Is there any other option that would be simple to setup as this is on a limited timescale ?
    Cheers,
    Nick

If you are referring to supplicant provisioning, the scep enrollment request is proxied from ISE and the private key and cert is transferred to the endpoint. This doesnt require your guest network having direct access to AD....just to ISE.

  • Kids now gaining access without password?

On my other authorized (kids)computer, it suddenly stopped asking for my account name and password. They are now able to purchase music without asking me first to enter my password. Any idea how to restore that request?

    Hi Soccer Mom -
The most effective way to monitor your kids' purchases is to change your password and use the Shopping Cart option.
Here's the general idea. Your kids add music and videos they're interested in buying to the Shopping Cart. When you're ready to review the list with them and purchase titles, you sign in using your username and password and purchase the titles you agree are appropriate.
Don't give your kids access to your password, since this can let them purchase unchecked...
If you're not interested in reviewing your kids' selections before you buy, you might also consider giving them an allowance or a Music Card. In both of these situations, your kids would need to have separate accounts. Because these accounts would have credit from a Music Card or an allowance, you wouldn't need to enter a credit card in the set up process.
Let me know if you have any questions.

  • HT5509 Guided Access Without Password Locks Phone, now way out?

I inadvertantly enabled guided access and am unable to get out of it.
When prompted for the initial password, I pressed Cancel instead of entering a password.  It enabled guided access and wants a password to disable it.
I tried to connect and run an app via xcode and it went to home screen but then said the phone was Disabled.  Now even a triple-click won't get the guided access to prompt for a password.
Update: sorry, searched before I was in the group, found the answer afterwards..
Hold power and home button for 10 seconds to power-off phone, should be undone when it comes back on.

I'm curious. What is it about this forum, focussed on a now-discontinued productivity application named "AppleWorks", that attracts so many questions like this one, totally unconnected with that application?
I'd appreciate an answer to that. Meantime, I've requested a transfer of the question to a more appropriate community.

  • Guest Access for Windows Services

    Hi,
I need to access my shared files through a "Guest" access, without a password. I understand it is not a safe way to work, but I do not have a choice : I am using a device named mediagate, which is supposed to be able to read the shared files on my computer, and this device can only connect to my computer using a "Guest" access.
I understand OS X server could do that (refering to http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=ServerAdmin/10.4/en/c4wn14.html), but I am using OS X tiger 10.4.4 workstation. Is there anyway for me to do that ? Otherwise, the mediagate I bough is totally useless...
    Thanks for your help !

    Hi Marco,
This behavior is a limitation that we are looking into providing a solution in a future update.

  • E4200 - Configure guest access

In my neighborhood, people generally allow open WiFi access to each other. The "guest access" feature of this router sounded good - you can allow guests to access the internet, without allowing them access to your own computer's transmissions. However, annoyingly, there is no way to configure guest access without a password. You can change the password, but guests have to come see you and ask you what the password is. No freedom to configure the router the way I want. Sending it back for a refund.

Well, if you have configured the router manually or even with the Cisco Connect you cannot disable the open security mode for the guest network. A password will have to be entered after launching a web browser.
The secured mode of the Guest Network cannot be disabled and will always require your guests to enter a password through a web browser. The prompt will appear everytime guests connect. This is to prevent unauthorized Internet access.

where are the passwords for cisco connecton

  • I need a guest access password.

I need a Guest Access Password..

You'll need to contact the owner of that router/account and get permission. If you're getting that page you are on the internet, you just don't have the permission to go further (the lack of a password)
To test, take your iPad to a place with open and free wifi, like  a mcDonalds or starbucks etc and see if it connects.

  • E3000 Guest Network

Does anyone know if the E-Series Routers (E3000 in particular) has a timeout for the Guest Network access? I can't find any documentation about this. When I test it, it I access the guest network, close my browsers, logout, restart, etc, etc and still can access the internet through the guest network without having to authenticate again.
Basically what I'm trying to accomplish is I want guests to able to access the internet when they are in the office, but I would only want them to have access for the day or for a few hours and then they have to re-enter the password. I know if they have the password already, they can just re-enter it, but I would still like to force guests to Re-Authenticate again.

Guest network is unsecured and anyone can connect to the wireless network. But when you open the Internet browser it will ask you for the guest password.
I don't think there is any time out for Guest network access.
When you connect to the main wireless network, your computer will save the password for the main network. next time it will connect to the main network automatically without asking for the password.
I think this is how the Guest network might also be working.
