E3000 Media Server disconnection

My setup (I'll use wired to ease things up) :
I have Cisco E3000 router wired to a Western Digital HD TV Live Media Player.
A USB external hard drive is plugged into the router and acts as the media server.
E3000 has both a guest and a private network (I'm using the private network with the TV Live).
Workgroup of both TV LIVE and router (and PCs) is "WORKGROUP".
I'm using static, internal IP adresses for the TV LIVE and any other equipment in my network.
When the wired TV LIVE looses its connection, I have to check the connection in my settings and resume playback.
When the wireless TV LIVE looses its connection, I cannot only check the connection again because it hangs at DNS server. I have to go to Wireless favorites, re-connect and resume playback. I'm using a Linksys WUSB600N v2 dongle and the signal only needs to travel a flat 20ft through a single wall.
I think it might be a router setting since both wired and wireless drop connection, but I'm not sure.
What should I check ?
See link below for my almost complete router setup.

Thanks

Where is the USB adapter is connected....?
Is Digital HD TV Live Media Player working wired and wireless....?
Try the following settings on the router...
On the router setup page,Under the Wireless tab,click on the subtab "Basic Wireless Settings"..Now,select the option "Manual".For 5GHz...Change the Channel Width to 40MHz only and Channel to 161-5.805GHz.For 2.4GHz...Change the Channel Width to 20MHz only and Channel to 11-2.462GHz.Click save settings.
Power Cycle the router and check.

  • E3000 Media Server - Remote Access?

    I got the the e3000 media server setup and can play all my music through it on all my PCs. Really Cool.
    Is there a way I can access this media from another location (WAN side)?
    I'm going to a party this weekend and my job was to have the music. Instead of copying my entire library (4.5GB) to my laptop, I was hoping I could access my library on the router USB port from his connection. Is this do-able? I am running Linksys 1.0.0.4 firmware now from Dec 2010.

    Well i don't think you have an option to access media server from the remote location?
    But you can access your drive from the remote location using FTP feature.

  • E3000 Media Server not seen by Windows Media Player (v 12.0) on Win 7

    I've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router.  My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
    I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
    Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player?
    If it's an incompatibility issue, can someone please point me to a compatible media player for Windows 7?
    I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.
    Thank you,
    Martin.

    This is what you can try in getting the Computer to see the media server on the E3000:
    (Obviously make sure you have the media server enabled on the router and at least one folder shared....and make sure you have scanned the folder(s))
    1) Turn your computer on.
    2) Disconnect your external usb drive.
    3) Pull the power on the E3000.
    4) Connect the external usb drive.
    5) Plug the power back into the E3000.
    Then see if that works or not.

  • E4200 built in Twonky media server disconnecting from PS3

    I am having problems with Twonky disconnecting from my PS3 while watching movies from the attached USB drive...anyone else having this issue?
    Any ideas on how to manually restart the media server other than turning off the drive or resetting the router?  Or perhaps a solution to this in settings...

    Same problem here with an XBOX 360. Seems to be a common theme in several threads. The only solutions I've seen posed by admins is to change the MTU to 1365 which doesn't make sense since these problems are reported for hardwired devices and ethernet already does 1500, or to upgrade the firmware and/or reboot... none of which work. I also get the same issue when streaming to a laptop from the router, but have zero issues when the same drive is plugged directly into the laptop. I've also had issues where the Storage tab only reports as connected to the drive at USB 1.1 until a reboot of the router. It will also say "No disks available" even though I can connect to the drive through UPnP. My drive is a Seagate 2TB on the "supported" list of external drives. I would just like someone to acknowledge this is a real problem with a solution forthcoming or I'm going to have to assume it's a hardware fail that no future fix/firmware update will solve or this thing is going to have to be returned.

  • E3000 Media Server

    Where can I find documentation on the built-in media server? There doesn't seem to be anything that comes with the router. I have it up and functioning - however, it shows me music files, but doesn't show any of the videos or photos that are available on the connected drive? Is there some special folder format I should be using? It shows up in my DLNA device (my Sony TV) and it shows three options "root music folder" "root video folder" "root picture folder" - the only one with anything in it is the "root music folder" - how do I change these? I've set up the scan to scan the entire partition. But not having any luck.
    Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    i'm also having this problem, with a PS3.
    there might be something to the fact that when selecting the information of the media server from the PS3, the manufacturer is listed as PacketVideo and the Model as TwonkyMedia. the latter being a product of the former.
    with the HDD connected directly to the router and that directly to the PS3, i don't see this being a huge deal. there's just something missing, most likely a specific folder structure, as previously metioned... though at this time i'm not finding it by trial and error...
    OKAY. i figured this out (i've been going over this while typing far a minute or 90), and get ready to feel pretty dumb...
    open the advanced settings browser page. select storage and then media server. i had enabled this already, but do it if you haven't already. now SPECIFY A FOLDER to scan. that's our problem. right freakin' there. god i feel like a moron.
    hope that helps.

  • E3000 USB Storage / Media Server - Web access?

    I just set up an E3000 router and haven't any problems so far.  I have a question about the USB storage and/or Media Server though.
    I hooked up a USB drive to the router, and it works just fine via Windows Explorer.  Is there a way to access it through a web browser though?  I'd like to access the drive from my Wii if that's possible, so is there a way, possibly with the media server? Mainly, I want to play videos from the drive on my TV, but I don't have a fancy internet-enabled TV
    Thanks in advance.

    I think you can try to upgrade/re-flash the firmware on your router.
    Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer. Open the setup page of the router and upgrade the firmware on your router.
    After upgrading the firmware on your router, reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.

  • E3000 external storage and media server problem

    I have connected my LaCie rugged drive to the router and would like to use it as backup storage and as a way to stream video to my PS3.
    When I go to my advanced settings for the router and go to the storage heading I can see my LaCie and its specifications.  There is a button next to it that says "claim", which I press, but nothing happens.
    I don't have the option to create a shared folder, and I can't access the drive from my Mac.
    Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?
    On a somewhat related note, I've enabled the media server and can find it on my PS3, but there is nothing in the root folders.  How do I put stuff (movies, music,etc.) into these root folders?

    Thanks, that did help.  I attached a different drive to the router and was then able to create a shared folder.
    I can now see the shared folder on my Mac.  I open this folder and there's the icon with my network name.  I double click on the network name and I get a popup with the following message:  "Select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to." and then a drop down box with the name of the shared folder I created and a public folder.  I select the shared drive I created and click OK.
    I then get another popup with the following message:
    SMB/CIFS File System Authentication
    Enter the workgroup or domain and your user name and password to access the server.
    Already filled out in the Workgroup or Domain is the name of one of the folders I created on the share drive.  Under username is my name and password is blank.  I enter in the password for the network and click OK.
    I then get the following message: The alis "'my network name'" could not be opened because it could not be found.
    and then the message gives me the following options:
    Delete Alias
    Fix Alias
    OK
    It won't let me delete the alias
    I've tried fixing the alias, but when I click on the option to do this, it just takes me to my file folder structure and asks me to choose a file.  I'm not sure what I should do here.
    Any idea on what to do so I can access the shared folder I created?
    Also, on our other computer which runs windows I'm not sure how to create a root folder.  How do I do this?

  • Older MacBook as a Media Server

    I have a 13" mid 2007 MacBook running OS X 10.7.3 that I'm replacing with a MacBook Air.  I also have an iPad 2 and we have two iPhones and various iPods (and a Time Capsule, which I adore).  I would like to use the MacBook as a media server (way up in my home office, not easily accessible) and rip a bunch of our DVDs onto the hard drive to feed my iPad and the MacBook Air.  I also have a TV in that room and I'd like to connect the MacBook to that TV to watch Netflix as well as the DVDs.
    Assuming I install Caffeine or something similar on the '07 MB and direct wire it into our Time Capsule and load up said movies/TV shows into iTunes how do I:
    a.  Watch that iTunes content on the MacBook Air and our other MacBooks?
    b.  Watch that content on my iPad?
    c.  Stream that music to speakers if I have them connected to our Airport Express?
    d.  Connect a MacBook to a flat screen TV to watch video from iTunes, on the web, and from DVDs?
    I've seen that the iPad can stream content to Apple TV and music to Airport Express, but is there a way to do that from a MacBook, possibly controlling it with an iPhone or an iPad?
    I've also read about some third party apps that are easier to work with than iTunes, but I thought between the cloud (which I'm paying for) and having all Apple products, I should be able to share content from the MacBook with the other pieces of hardware?
    Thanks!

    I have a new Mac Mini using as a media center, and am having screensharing issue too, though now quite the same. I can remote into the mini from my iMac without issue, but while I am screen sharing the display on the mini will blank at the time the my display would go to sleep (1 hour) even though I have been working on it remotely. If I move the mouse on the mini, the pointer will move, but the screen is still blank. If I disconnect, it remains blank with the moving pointer. Keyboard doesn't wake it either. The only way I have found to get the screen back is while I am connected from my iMac, go to system preferences, go to screen saver, and click the test button. It then comes back to life. I have no issues if I am not connected via screen sharing.
    Any ideas?

  • A User Count in a Flash Media Server Application

    hello guys, first of all, sorry for my english...
    i am making a flash media server application and i want users to see that how many users are currently connected to this application...
    i have searched on google for 2 days and i couldnt find a good tutorial for AS3.
    i have looked at fmsguru and some other tutorial websites but those wasn't enough for me to succes...
    what i am trying to make is; a text area or dynamic text (i dont know which is most suitable for this purpose) which shows the numbers of connected user and i want it change immediately when a user connects or disconnects...
    i know there is an array as "application.clients" and i know i should use "application.clients.length" in "main.asc" file to find the number of connected users BUT i can't get this number to the text area or dynamic text in my "swf file".
    PLEASE help me by explaining a simple application which uses a "main.asc" file, an "action script" file and a "swf" file. and how to get the number of "application.clients.length", how to send (or call or get) it to the "action script" file, how to show this number in a text field or dynamic text...
    i will be very appreciated if someone explain in AS3 and make me success...
    thanks for reading...

    well here you don't even need the button just tell your textfield to update everytime the server calls after a connection or disconnection. Do you know how to write actionscript at all? Because you would be well advised not to attempt media server stuff unless you know how to do the basics. Maybe you could start out with some client only applications.
    import mx.controls.TextArea;
    import mx.controls.Button;
    import mx.utils.Delegate;
    class SimpleChat_call extends MovieClip {
    private var myTextArea:TextArea;
    private var myButton:Button;
    private var _nc:NetConnection;
    private var _chatSO:SharedObject;
    private function onLoad() {
    myButton.addEventListener("click", Delegate.create(this, onUserCount));
    public function connect( rtmpString:String) {
    _nc = new NetConnection();
    _nc.owner = this;
    _nc.onStatus = function ( info ) {
    if(info.code == "NetConnection.Connect.Success") {
    trace("connected successfully");
    this.owner.connectSO( this );
    _nc.receiveUsercount = function (count) {
    var myTextArea = this.owner.myTextArea;
    myTextArea.text = count;
    _nc.connect(rtmpString);
    private function connectSO( nc ) {
    _chatSO.connect( nc );
    you didn't even try what i suggested did you because it would have worked without changing the client

  • EA 6500 Media Server Drops Out

    Media server works great until I get "Connection Lost" It requires a restart of the AE6500. I have tried stopping the media server and restarting then rescaning but this usually does not help. The FTP function does ot have this issue while streaming music. It only happens streaming Movies.  I thought this was just a media server issue since it happens on the Roku (I have two)  using its media app. But as it turns out, it also happens using plex on both the Samsung and Rokus (The PLEX media server is on my computer). Usually it only happens once and is fine after the router restart. USUALLY. It happened 4 times last night.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

    You might reload the FW and set up from scratch and see if you can stablize it.
    To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following:
    1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
    2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
    3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
    4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.
    Are you streaming via wired or wireless when this happens?

  • EA4500 router and media server file limit

    I purchased an EA4500 router yesterday and it arrived today. Set it up, copiued my media library over to a new Seagate Expansion drive (2 TB) and it currently is filled with 320GB of files. Music folder, Pictures folder and Video folder. Thing is only some of the files are showing up. Looks very much like some stupid limitation on file numbers. I specifically purchased this router because of the media server and now it is useless.
    Is there a fix for this sillyness? I can't seem to find a way to turn the file limit off. I truly hope I haven't purchased another rubbish router. The TP Link router I replaced had no such file size limit and was 2/3 of the price, easily.
    Yours, not amused

    Yes, I checked that before I bought myself a Seagate Expansion drive 2TB. The router list shows 1.5 and 3TB drives in that range and I would say that the 2TB is veyr likely to be supported also.
    The files are bog standard file types! Some files show up but not all of them.
    FLAC (you missed that filetype off the supported audio types btw) and MP3 show up but not all of them.
    MPEG2 files show and play..but not all are visible.
    None of my images in my photo library show up and they are all JPEG. No esoteric file formats.
    It seems though that the media server just doesn't show anything after it reaches a file limit. It really isn't up to anything much if that is the case and for the money that router should be better. Furthermore, the folders with audio albums in doesn't display the contects in the correct alphanumeric order. I was playing an album by Cassandra Wilson and immediately noticed that the songs were in the wrong order. Something totall wrong there...the server has to be displaying them like that.
    I have Marantz CR603 all-in-one hif fis in 3 different rooms in the house (living room and two bedrooms). Sometimes 2 can connect simultatenously but 3 won't as the server falls over. Even with two units connected it will suddenly disconnect for no reason. My connection isn't slow It is fast anbd yet accessing the media server is very very slow and especially simultatenous access.
     It seems to me that the media server element is a stripped down token effort but all the sales garb for the router doesn't mention aything about its silly limitations.
    I think the best thing for me to do now is return this to Amazon for a full refund and find another brand of router.  It was bad enough 'adjusting' to the cloud managment - a firmware download initiated on install and installed that. Some of the config pages don't work properly (that needs an urgent fix as well...IP address fields with only 3 fields that won't allow you to enter last 3 octets of address and you can't apply setting) and the dumbned down way of presentating the options makes it a pain to setup if you are used to the usual way of setting up a router. If I setup a router manually it takes a fraction of the time that the hand holding setup nonsense takes. I get the idea, and it looks pretty and all big buttony how everyhting is going these days but there should be a seriously 'normal' advanced mode for people that don't require their hands held through the setup and configuration.
    Very dissappointed. It's a fast router as well.

  • Adobe Media Server failing to record video if switched from play to record midstream

    The Adobe Media Server is failing to record video if switched from play to record midstream. It is an intermittent issue that happens randomly one out of every 30 attempts.
    Flash Runtime: Flash Player ActiveX 11.7.700.169 or Flash Player ActiveX 11.4.402.287
    Media Server: AMS5.0.1, also FMS4.5.5
    (The problem happens on both FMS4.5.5 and AMS5.0.1)
    The ActionScript is as follows:
    netstreamRoger.publish("719_Client","play");
    Then 1 second later:
    netstreamRoger.publish("719_Client","record");
    netstreamRoger is streaming out the video and audio data correctly, because there is another computer playing the stream 719_Client live. So the media server is forwarding the stream correctly when live. The bug is when you attempt to playback 719_Client.flv the file does not contain any video data. The file size is not zero, and the file is not corrupted, but the file size is smaller than it would be if it had saved the video in it.
    How do I submit this bug to the Media Server team, and how can I workaround this issue?

  • Have Apple done something to disable Time Capsule as a media server?

    Hi Guys,
    Ever since I bought my Time Capsule I've used it as a media server for my iMac and two family MacBook Airs. The reasons are simple. It enabled all three Macs to access music in iTunes, store photos, video and correspondence. Plus it frees up a huge amount of space on each Mac and saves on duplication.
    I also have a USB external connected to my Time Capsule so I can run a routine back-up to ensure our media files are never lost through a TC failure. All well and good.
    I have included the TC in my Login items so it always appears on my desk at start up making it instantly available. This has worked fine up until recently and the volume has always been accessible like any other external hard drive. Now however I get a message on start-up effectively saying that the alias cannot find the original. Even if I try to 'fix' the alias I cannot access my media files.
    I can see the TC in my Finder and when I try to access it I can only see it as a Sharepoint. In the meantime my iTunes is defaulting to the standard library folder and I can't access my thousands of photographs.
    What is going on? Do I need to set something up differently or is this an Apple attempt to nail us to using TC as a Time Machine back up only?
    Really fed up... :-/
    Cheers
    rich

    As far as I'm aware there have been two updates to Airport/TC software/hardware yet I still cannot get my TC to mount on my desktop except as a 'sharepoint'. If I double click the icon it tells me the alias can't find the original item.
    This makes it really awkward to use as I appear to have to disconnect and reconnect the TC until it lists the contents in a Finder window.
    I'm thinking about binning the TC altogether and getting one of those LG NAS drives with a Blu-Ray burner built in. Does anyone have any user experience with these?
    Does anyone from Apple ever read these pages? Surely they can fix this? I only inherited it after updating to Snow Leopard and indeed I'm still running Leopard on another partition and the TC works exactly as it should.
    It isn't exactly a cheap piece of kit to just dispose of (especially in 1TB guise) and I really see no reason why that decision is being forced upon me because of a glitch in a purchased Apple software upgrade.
    Come on Apple, sort it out!
    Cheers

  • Is there a DLNA compliant Media Server for the iMAC

    Is ther a DLNA compliant Media Server that will run on an Intel based iMAC running Lion?

    I used to have a 30 foot HDMI cable going from my Mac to my Denon receiver (which just turned in to a second monitor) and using Plex, I would play my HD MKV files without issue.  Now my Mac mini is in one room and the home theater is in another and I can't get any AVI or MKV files to play through my Samsung equipment.  Vuze SUPPOSEDLY supports streaming to thousands of DLNA devices but while I could see my files, none of them would play.  I've also tried Plex, VLC, EyeConnect, and TVMobili.  I have the same problem with all of them.  Either they won't play MKV files, or I'll select an AVI and it'll see the file but never play it.  Then each server, in its own way, disconnects from my device.
    Hardware:
    Samsung PN51D8000 Plasma
    Samsung BD-D5500 Blu-Ray
    Denon 3808CI
    Mac Mini - Intel 2.4GHz, 8 GB RAM, OS X Lion 10.7.2
    Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.

  • Flash Media Server on Clustered Servers

    Hello to all,
    i am new to the Flash world and am trying to figure out if
    Flash Media Server Pro can be installed in a clustered server
    environment (active/passive). specifically:
    1 - can it be set up so that when the primary server fails,
    the secondary server will take over any incoming requests?
    2 - can this be done at the "Pro" license level?
    3 - are two seperate licenses required for this, or is this
    usage (since it is any active/passive cluster) covered under a
    single license?
    the items i found on the site are very specific to setting up
    Edge/Origin servers - but we are not looking at getting dedicated
    servers for this. we want to use our clustered web site servers.
    with thanks for any help provided
    rica

    Since we're talking about a multiuser app (the chat),
    failover becomes a litte more complicated. In this case, we need to
    make sure that, as clients connect to the app, the are routed to
    the appropraite server. Think about this scenario:
    Users A and B enter a chat. During the chat, the primary
    server goes down, so clients A and B are moved to the backup
    server. A few minutes later, the primary server comes back on line.
    After that, client C connects to the chat. Since the primary server
    is up, client C connects to that one, but clients A and B are still
    on the backup server.
    So, we need a means of making sure there is only one instance
    of any given chat "room" at any time, and we need to somehow make
    sure inbound clients are routed to the appropraite server.
    What I like to do in situations like this is buid two
    applications. The first application is a "gatekeeper", which
    monitors all of the FMS servers in the cluster, and mantiains a
    list of active rooms (and their locations). When a client connects,
    they first connect to the gatekeeper, which informs the client of
    which server their chat room is running on. The client then
    disconnects from the gatekeeper, and connects to the chat room.
    Along with handling faliover, using an approach like this can
    also facilitate load balancing. By monitoring license capacity, the
    gatekeeper app can programatically assign chat rooms to servers
    based on the number of active connections on each FMS.
