E3000 Router without Cisco Connect

I just setup my new E3000 which in general is working great.  Being a Cisco geek at work, my first step was to connect via http and toss the Cisco Connect CD to the side.  After getting the basics setup to mimic my old Cisco 871W, I started to look into some of the whiz bang features on teh E3000.
The first one that I wanted to take advantage of was having a different SSID for the 5GHz band from the 2.4GHz band.  In the web interface this seemed simple to do, but although the SSID was showing up on my laptop I was unable to connect to it.  As soon as I made the SSIDs the same, my laptop connected to the 5GHz side or 2.4GHz just fine.  Is there some magic to getting this setup?
The other feature I wanted to setup was the Guest access.  Unfortunately it looks like this feature is hidden unless you use Cisco Connect and if you don't use 192.168.1.1 for your router Cisco Connect can't see it.  Am I missing something somewhere?
Thanks,

I initially had a different SSID for the 5GHz band and was able to connect my Wireless-N bridge to it without any problems. However, hours later, both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands flaked out, and now I can't get anything to connect to them. The wired portion of my router works fine. I'll be doing a firmware reinstall and 30/30/30 hard reset tomorrow. I assume it might be an issue with the firmware being 1.0. if it's not, it's being returned for another unit.
As for guest access, yes, you can only adjust it through Cisco Connect. There is no web UI option for it. If you change the password of your router, its default IP, and possibly its name, Cisco Connect will not work.
Cisco really screwed up this release. Hopefully the next firmware release will fix all of this.

  • E3000 questions. Cisco Connect with https and turn off wireless?

My old router died this weekend after 10 years and I have been wanting to get a faster router for a while anyways.
I picked up a E3000 and set it up yesterday.
    The firmware is 1.0.03
    I have two main questions
I changed the router settings so you can only browser manage the router through https and turned off http access to the router.
Cisco Connect now doesn't work. Will Cisco Connect work with HTTPS? Do I have to do something to get it to work?
I also didn't see a version number on Cisco Connect am I just not noticing it?
I'd really like to shut off wireless on most days when I'm not home. I want the router to still be working since my desktop computers are directly connected to the router and I remote into them. Is there an easy way to shutoff the wireless and then easily turn it back on when I get home?
    thanks
    mike

Mine works the same. It's probably designed that way for the manual way of logging into the setup page of the router.
No, it seems no updates yet or see the need to have one.
No, it doesn't have that option unfortunately.

  • On iOS 6.0 how can I Airplay to AppleTV using router without internet connection.

    Hello,
I do a lot of presentations. I recently updated my iPad to iOS 6.0. In the past on iOS 5 I used an iPad, AppleTV, router, and projector for presentations. Now when I connect the iOS iPad to the router it requires the router to be connected to the internet so the iPad can connect. Iam often presenting at places that do not have internet so this is an issue. Is there anyway around this? I have done some testing and it appears that the iPad has to authennticate to Apple everytime it wants to connect to the internet.

You cannot use your iPhone as a router without being connected to data.
That is essentially what I said above. When streaming local content you won't incur any data but you can't use the feature while in airplane mode.
However; you can use an airport express (2nd generation) as a router without being conected to the internet.
Yes, An Airport Express is a router, which is what I recommended initially as it is a much better solution, glad it's all worked out.

  • Manually managing E3000 / not using cisco connect software

ok  now i have totally by pass the cisco connect  software, and manually managing my e3000 / updating the firmware manually  and i have the ssid disabled due to people trying to connect to our router all the time and our router is password protected (wpa/aes) i need to know if manually managing the network is a good idea or not i've manage other linksys routers in the network page, i am finally able to connect and i get my full download speed 10MB/Second  now  before i was getting 5MB/second and upload speed is at a good 1MB/second before i was getting 0.3MB/second are these good speeds or what i dont know i've also ran a few test - both the hdtv & xbox on at the same time running the same item (netflix's ) both at the same speed

For better wireless connection, use WPA2 with AES security.
I think disabling the SSID broadcast will make any difference.
You can also try changing the advanced wireless settings on the router.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon interval to 75, RTS and Fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.
Click on Setup tab and change the MTU size to 1365.Save the settings and power cycle the router.
Now observer the wireless connection and see if that makes any difference.
Also make sure that your router is running on latest firmware.

  • E3000 Cascade - disables Cisco Connect

I have a 2621XM router that I use for my gateway and firewall and wish to keep this as my main security device.  I liked the parental control and USB storage features of the new E3000 and purchased this to replace my WRTG54.
My problem is that  when attached to the same LAN segment (LAN to LAN cascade) I loose the ability to use Cisco Connect and thus loose the ability to manage guest access, parental controls and such.
I've read that disabling DHCP server on the E3000 disables Cisco Connect.  Is this true?  I have internal DHCP and DNS servers and do not wish to separate the scopes and manage them from two devices with yet another IP scope.
In my opinion...the lack of the ability to manage these advanced features from the WEB interface is a serious flaw.  Loosing the walled garden type features just because you choose not to use the E3000 router or DHCP function is just not acceptable.  I hope this is being addressed by Cisco/Linksys.

If you connect the E3000 with a LAN port to your main router then you operate it like a simple access point and ethernet switch. All internet related functions won't work then. Parental control, access restrictions or other things like DDNS, port forwarding etc. won't work because those functions operate only when traffic is routed through the router. If you don't use the internet port traffic is not routed through the E3000. This is always the case.
Regarding the guest access you can only hope that they'll add it to the web interface very soon. I suggest calling Linksys support and telling them. Maybe if a lot of users call them and ask for this they'll add it sooner.

  • Downloaded Cisco Connect for E1200 v2 disk image damaged. Now what? recent Mountain Lion upgrade

I had originally set up my E1200 Jan 2012 & had Cisco Connect setup. I didn't use it much but back in Oct after being away for 10 days I didn't have internet connection. Had to re-set both cable modem--then I at least had connection via ethernet, but still no wifi connection.  Had to turn off for awhile to get it Router to properly reset & work. & then I think I had to do another reset maybe in Dec, can't remember exactly.
As I mention in another post, I have been having frequent intermittent not connected to internet messages for a long time. Usually if I just turn wifi off & then turn it back on it finds my network (although frequently I notice that it was on my guest network rather than main). I still don't know if it is cable modem, router or my ISP, altho they came out & checked & said signals ok, but modem could be going (Its old but about to move so don't want to buy new modem now).
I updated to Mountain Lion about 2-3 weeks ago.
After a Panic last night I was advised to make sure everything updated including router firmware.
When I opened Cisco Connect it said I had an unsupported Operating System. Trying to figure this all out, I finally found links to download Cisco Connect that are supposed to be compatible w Mountain Lion (at least the original link said that, but not where I went w the links so hoping it is right link for that). Anyway I downloaded it & was reading a bit & then clicket on the setup icon.
That said it was damaged & to eject it. I downloaded it via wifi just like I download other software. Maybe it is hyper sensitive so I need to take it over to plug directly into my cable modem? But then that will mess up the router, although I guess it will need to be reset any way.
So I think i need to get Cisco Connect updated so it works w Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion told me about 1 software that wasn't compatible but didn't pick up on Cisco Connect.
So don't know if I need to do a hard wired download, unlike the way I download other things, or what to get an undamaged copy. I then hope that it will see the old version, even though it isn't didn't work & hopefully pick up all my settings & all.
& then I guess I still need to check for a firmware update. & I understand that a firmware update should be done w a good connection (although the user manual just says good signal, web says hard wired ethernet. & because of the intermittent issues I plan to to it manually by 1st downloading & then installing from the download so there won't be a risk of interruption during install--if its even needed.
    I'm running on a mid April 2010 13" MacBookPro
Any suggestions? This all is rather confusing.
    Kathi

Well I was trying to update Cisco Connect so it would work w Mountain Lion but after 3 tries at the download I kept getting this same error message that it is downloaded. I even shut down & restarted before the last time w same result.
I should not have to spend hours of my time to get this to work. That is ridiculous.
Right before starting this process I checked for Apple updates & found a firmware update for my MacBookPro. I quickly downloaded & installed it, no problem. It took a very few minutes & then I backed it up & started working on this many hours ago.
I am an end user--not an IT professional. I just want things to work. I should not be expected to have to spend hours trying to figure out how to get stuff to work & still it doesn't. So I guess Linksys doesn't care that much about making things easy for Mac users.
I recently had the cable co come out & check the levels & all. they all checked out ok & they did change the fittings in several places on the coax connecters for good measure.
My cable modem is set up just across my living room from me & it is not a large living room. The router is right next to it, but it is not at a desk or place that is very comfortable to set up my Mac.
I sure hope that those security settings have been set up by default when I orginally set this up about a year ago. & I don't reall know how to change those settings without Cisco Connect, which I have been unable to get reinstalled since i keep getting those warnings about it being damaged.
I just want my computer devices to work. I don't want to have to spend hours troubleshooting them w poorly written instructions that don't really tell how to update firmware & Cisco Connect for tnose of us who have already had it set up before upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Having a link to download Cisco Connect that supposedly works w Mountain Lion but doesn't since it keeps giving a warning is not very helpful. There was nothing I saw in all my searches to tell what the results of even being able to upgrade Cisco Connect. Would it be able to figure existing settings? Didn't see anything that explained how that would work.
I don't appreciate my time being stolen by making it so hard to just get this updated! I"m giving up on this. I may try taking it back to Best Buy to see if they can tell if the router itself was also defective but I think I will likely go get an airport Express so I have a reliable router that is easy to use!

  • Trouble installing Cisco Connect for E4200

I just got a new E4200 router and downloaded Cisco Connect from the web site...file name CiscoConnect.E4200.1.4.11160.2.exe. When I try to run it, I find through Task Manager that Setup.exe is using about 35 to 40% CPU, but I'm never even getting to anything on the screen, nor is Task Manager even showing it as a running application. I'm running Windows XP SP3 (latest updates). I tuned off the AVG virus scan. But it still just seems to hang. Any ideas? BTW, I used the web interface to fully configure the router and it works fine so I could get by without Cisco Connect, but it might just be easier to use. Thanks. -Bruno

I suppose I've waited five to ten minutes.
This isn't Cisco Connect... it's the install Setup. I tried running it from the CD that came with the router and that one first had me agree to the terms, then it said it was downloading updates and just hung there... but I could see that it had given up actually downloading from the net. When I tried to install from the downloaded setup (not CD), it never got to any user interface.
I'll try again tomorrow and wait longer. But what would it be doing that would suck up CPU time so heavily. It's only an installation setup. BTW, both version sucked up CPU time and the Task Manager said it was Setup.exe that was doing it.

  • Cisco Connect will not open

I clicked on CISCO CONNECT in my programs and all I get is the popup window and "please wait" in the center. It's been awhile and it won't connect.
Is there something I need to do or something I can do to get this to connect?

Are you pertaining to the Cisco Connect Guest Password? What is your router model? If you set up your router using Cisco Connect, you can find it there.
If you are pertaining to the password you use to access the routers web admin, default is to leave username blank and type admin as the password. If you initially set it up, the only way to recover it is to reset the router.
If you are pertaining to the Security password, one that you use to connect iphones, laptops etc wirelessly to your router, just login to the routers Web interface and you can find it there. Type 192.168.1.1 on your browsers address field.

  • Not allowed to use Cisco Connect anymore. Help?

I recently changed my wireless password, in the advanced settings, to not match my router password. Now that I try to use Cisco Connect, it says that I can not because I changed the a password in the advanced settings. Is there anything i can do to undo this change?

If you change the password of the router or wireless network using the setup page of the router then Cisco connect software will stop working. You can change the router password to match with Wireless network password.
Open the setup page of the router. Go to Administration tab and change the router password.
See if that makes Cisco connect to work. If not then I think you will need to reset the router and reconfigure it.

I am using internal GPS without assisted GPS (so no need for internet) - but app won't calc the route without internet connection - frustrating.  Now, I let it access the www at the start of navigation - then disconnect www, and all is well for the rest of the route.  I can't see why it needs the www to do the calc - surely the calc algorithm is included in the "Drive" app??  One would think so!  It seems to be using a server-based app to calc the route.

  • Cisco connect on E3200

In the beginning everything was fine until i tried  to change the PS3 frome NAT3 to NAT2.  After many helps from telephone cisco of port forwarding and dmz and such nothing working, i reset the router and uninstalled cisco connect software.
    Long story short...
I have internet connection on the laptop, desk top ISP printer and PS3 through the router
Run cisco connect and it says that i am off line
uninstalled, reset router many many times.
    Help please

Well if the concerned is just with cisco connect software..
Then you can download the latest cisco connect software from the cisco website ( homesupport.cisco.com ).
Once it is downloaded on your computer.. Run the software it will reconfigure the router settings and will give the option to create your network name and password by urself too..

  • 2 networks after Cisco Connect reinstall

    Hello Forum~
I installed my E1000 wireless router alongside Cisco Connect. All was fine... I decided I wanted to manage my own wireless settings (I have intermediate-level networking knowledge and have always managed all my linksys routers manually) so I uninstalled Cisco Connect.
I wanted to get rid of the "guest" account that was being broadcast, and read on the forums it could only be managed via Cisco Connect software.
No problem, right? Just re-install the software.  I did... and it gave me a new SSID! Plus the old one remained as well (with the better signal).
So now, I have two networks showing. What the heck.... ?!
Before I dig myself any deeper and since this router seems like it has various proprietary little hidden things...  does anyone have any advice on how to fix this?
    THANKS!
    ~Aegis

Did you try to reset the router?
Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and modem.
Uninstall the Cisco connect from your computer. Restart the computer and try to run the CD again.
If you want to change the wireless settings of the router. Open the Cisco connect and go to Router settings. Here you can change the name and password for the wireless network.
If you change the wireless settings of the router manually then Cisco connect software will stop working.
Old wireless network settings might be saved on your computer. Remove the preferred wireless network list on your wireless computer.

  • E3000 FTP access question/using Cisco connect after router setup

I have two questions about my E3000 router.
    1. If I have already set up my router using the default web address, if I use the Cisco connect software, do I gain any benefit or am I opening up a can of worms? I would like to change my server name and default admin user name stuff, but I don't want to screw with any settings I have. I will be updating my firmware in a day or so, so should I use the software then, or just go about it the way I have already?
    2. I have enables FTP access for my USB drive, but I am unsure how to access it from a remote computer. I know using ftp://xxx.xxx.x.x gets me to my Index while connected to my network, but how do I access this off my network? I want to give our parents and family access to pictures, but I''m not sure of the exact address to use. I have looked in the set-up manual, and searched Google and this site, and have found nothing.
Thank you in advance for your help!
    Dan

If you have configured your Router using the Cisco Connect software, then you it secure your wireless network with an password. If you have any firewall and antivurs software on your router then it will protect your computers against worms.
To use the FTP feature of your router you need to enable ftp login on your router, which you will find under the storage tab of your router.

  • Optimal configuration for Cisco E3000 Router

    Hi All,
Following are the details of my current home network setup, I would like to hear more recommendations and drawbacks of this setup.
ISP has provided with a Cisco  DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway which has 4 Ethernet ports and a wireless networking but only 2.4 GHz.. This router is connected to the cable CPE box to internet. I have enabled the Firewall features of this router and disabled the Wireless network. This has also the DHCP server running.
The Second router is a Cisco E3000 which supports 2.4 GHz / GHz wireless networking. Connection to gateway is made via the 1st Ethernet port of gateway and then to the Internet port of E3000 router. I have connected my wireless devices to E3000 with GHz wifi lan. This router also has the firewall activated and DHCP server running as well.
Both routers have WEP2 Personal / AES security configured. Currently these two devices are on two different IP ranges ..etc gateway is 192.168.0.1 and e3000 is 192.168.1.1.
The E3000 is primarily configured for my online video for TV (Panasonic Vireacast). Please let me know if this is the best configuration or any other possible options.
    Thanks,
    RG

This configuration is called LAN to WAN configuration and this is the best configuration considering that you want to behave both the router as a router.
Because the other confiuration would be LAN to LAN then you can only use 1 router as a router and 2nd router as a switch.

  • E3000 "Cisco Connect" install?

    How smart is "Cisco Connect?
I am about to install a new E3000 for my LAN
and have doubts about using "CC" vs manual setup,
But would like to use it if it helps with my limited skills.
There are 3 desktops wired and a laptop to be wireless.
    Modem/Router is DSL-DHCP CenturyLink/Embarq- Zyxel EQ-660R.
    Mixed OS's: WXP, W7(rarely use), W2K(?work), Linux(rarely).
Present router Linksys BEFSR41 in Gateway mode(could never
get it to do DHCP) with fixed IP for each computer.
Oddly, I've used NetBEUI for LAN, but will remove this.
    Questions about "CC":
    1. From what I read, it appears to want to do PPPoE for
DSL service. Will it detect or can it  be set for DHCP service?
    2. Does it do all the OS Windows network configuration, or
should this be done manually before install.
    3. Can I use it for the initial set-up, especially wireless
which I've never done, then later go back to change PPPoE
to DHCP, realizing that it will then no longer work.
    4. I would like to avoid bridging modem, but have users of E3000
       had better results with this.
Thanks in advance for your help.

First, you have to set your modem/router to take care of PPPoE so you won't have a problem with E3000. Make sure you have your username and password for PPPoE.
    1. You can set it to DHCP as long as PPPoE is being handled by the modem/router.
    2. You have to set all computers to obtain IP automatically and remove the static IP.
    3. Yes. CC is intended for the initial setup, even before connecting to the internet.
    4. You need to cascade the routers since you have E3000 connected to a modem/router.
In case CC won't work. I'd suggest you do the manual thing. Here's the procedure for cascading routers and DSL connection. In cascading the routers, use the Internet-LAN connection.
