E3000 -- Wireless Connectivity

Hello Everyone,
I purchased the E3000 wireless router -- a magnificent device. Updated it to the latest firmware (1.0.04), although I have several issues:
1) When absolutely no wireless devices are connected, the wireless LED is still flashing periodically -- the network is both MAC-filtered and encrypted.
2) When disabling both WiFi antennas -- the wireless LED remains lit, and flashes periodically (although no wireless connection can be made).
I am working in an environment where sometimes, wireless interference/transmission can be of concern, and therefore, the ability to turn WiFi off is imperative to my work.
3) If any Cisco employees do read this forum -- is it possible to add functionality to the firmware such as the functionality of the "WPS" button on the rear side of the device could be toggled to enable/disable WiFi, without going through the web interface (the user could select which functionality they would prefer -- WPS or WiFi On/Off)? -- I had a WiFi-toggle switch on my 3Com router, and it was very convenient!
Thank you very much everyone and have a wonderful day!
-- Pavel

I think there is no problem if the Wifi light is flashing or lit on the router,
If it is flashing or lit it means router is broadcasting the wireless signal.
And as your network is Mac filtered and Secured also,no one can connect to the wifi.
Also there is no other option to disable the wifi without using web interface.
What is the current firmware version on the router?

  • E3000 wireless connections not reaching maximum speed

E3000 running 1.0.0.3 firmware on Cox premier 30mb pipe. 2 wireless dell laptops Inspiron 9100 and Vostro 1000running 1350 and 1390 mini wireless g network cards with latest drivers installed. Direct connect machines run at full 30mb connection speedtest.net and Cox's own speed test. Wireless machines sitting next to router with excellent connection showing 48 to 54Mbps capacity but only getting 3-10Mbps throughput on speedtests. Cust Support through level 1, 2 and HQ cannot find the problem. Originally thought it was bad hardware so original router replaced and doing the same thing.
Sincerely appreciate any clues, suggestions or ideas anyone may have. The laptops are both about 5 yrs old or more but they should reach the capacity available, even on G networks, shouldn't they?
    Thank you kindly!

How much speed do you get on a wired computer?
Speed test is not always accurate on most of the websites.  You have Cox premier 30mb connection and you are getting 28-30 mbps speed on wireless computer. So I think the speed is pretty good.
If you are still getting slow speed then you can try changing the advanced wireless settings on the router.
Open the setup page of the router. Click on Wireless tab and go to Advanced wireless settings. Change the Beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation threshold to 2306. Save the settings.
Go to the setup tab and change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings. Power cycle the router and observe the speed.

  • E3000 routers wireless connections drop when gigabit hardwire is used

I have a very strange but repeatable problem with my E3000 wireless router.  I have multiple devices connected wirelessly such as and iPhone and 3 laptops.  I also have a couple of devices (dvd player and satellite receiver) connected hard wire.  The problem occurs when I  connect my laptop hardwire and uses gigabit speed.  All wireless connection stop working.  When I look in the router at the list of users it show all the wireless devices as being connected via the LAN and not wireless anymore.  When I unplug the gigabit hardwired connection and reboot the router all the wireless devices go back to normal and function correctly.  I am also using MAC security for the wireless devices so when I plug in the laptop hardwire it changes from wireless to LAN in the user client table.  Unfortunately all the other wireless devices do also.

You have 3 wireless laptops. The wireless connection stops working when you connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the router.
Does this happen when you connect any laptop to the router or only with the specific laptop?
Disable the wireless network connection on your laptop and then connect the laptop to the router with the Ethernet cable.
    See if that works.

  • E3000 cannot connect to wireless IP Camera

I am trying to connect 2 wireless IP cameras to my network with a Cisco E3000 router. One is a DLink DCS-920 and the other is Foscam FI8918W. I set up both cameras over ethernet and enter the router stettings. When I disconnect the eternet I do not get wireless connectivity. When I run Cisco Connect software / Computers and Other Devices / Other Wireless Devices, it does not find the cameras.
How do I connect to the cameras?
    Thanks

After fiddling with various settings, I now can connect to the webcams locally through my browser. I cannot get the DLink DCS-920 to upload via FTP. The Foscam is not listed in the router's DHCP Client list, but I can see it in my browser.
    Any thoughts?
My DLink webcam worked fine with a Netgear router.

  • E4200 v2 - Dropping wireless connection

I purchased this router as an upgrade from my Cisco/Linksys E3000 that I have had for over a year. I use wireless almost exclusively in my household and when the E4200 V2 is working it is great but then it seems to slow down. Actually it is not slowing down but dropping packets on the wireless segments after varying periods of time. The wireless connection does not drop ( i used vistumbler to view the connection in real time ) but all connections exhibit dropped packets. I had Amazon send me a replacement and it did the exact same thing. I even restored the router to default and setup just the wireless connection both using the Cisco connect and the web interface and the problem still happens. To test this I set a constant ping of the router's gateway address on my WLAN and observed 25% to 40% dropped packets. After a reboot it is more stable, but it becomes more unstable over time. The wired connections are solid and did not drop any packets but wireless is a joke!

There are many reasons why you experience poor signal or connection. Your intermittent wireless connection has a relation to the kind of setup that you have in your home or office. Is the connection dropping on all wireless computers or just one?
You have mentioned, you set the router to factory defaults and re-configured it. Did you try changing the channel on the router to either 1, 6, 9 or 11? There could be an interference with other wireless devices in the network (cordless phone, microwave etc.) since they work on the same frequency.
Try this and see if that helps.

  • E3200 - Dropping wireless connection on the Mac

Pros: Gig Eth switch, no front-facing indicator lights, familiar web interface...
Cons: WiFi Protected Setup doesn't belong. Continually drops wireless connections to my Mac Book Pro (but none of my other devices), which worked just fine on the E3000 this unit replaced and works perfectly on other WiFi networks. REALLY SLOW web interface - average time to move from one page to the next is something north of 9 seconds. Again, never a problem with the E3000 that this unit replaced. Price? I wouldn't complain about price if this thing actually worked as expected.
Other Thoughts: I'm hoping it's just a flaky/defective unit and not indicative of the overall quality of newer Linksys products. Firmware isn't the issue - it's running the latest one from Linksys' site.

First of all please verify that you have got a 802.11n card in your computer. New generation routers (i.e. E3200) speaks an entirely different language with 802.11g cards, so while those adapters can work with the E3200, but they are not optimized to provide good performance. It is like having to translate from one language to another in real time when going from N to G.
Well, there are few things you should keep in mind with regards to N routers:
    1) For the best possible speeds, you need to be using WPA2-AES as your security mode. Any other security mode will see your speed/range capped.
Any G devices in your wireless network will tend to hamper the performance of your overall network.
Ensure that your router is running the latest firmware from homesupport.cisco.com The new firmware includes performance enhancements and fixes.
The router by default uses a channel setting of auto, which means that it would keep switching channels depending on the interference. I’d recommend you set it to a fixed channel. Usually, 1, 3, 6 and 9 give you the best performance depending on your environment of course. I’d suggest you try different channels, observing each for a while, to see which gives you the best performance. You can follow the link here on how to change channels.

  • Extremely slow PS3 downloads with E3000 wireless

As stated in the subject my PS3 downloads are horribly slow with my new E3000 (replacing a WRT54GS).   PS3 does not show transfer rate but it is taking up to an hour for 50 MBs.    I would generally expect to see 500 Kbps - 1 Mbps at a MINIMUM with my cable package so this is way outside the realm of acceptable transfer speeds...
I have seen this through several patches and DLC off of PS3 over multiple days.  I have already decreased MTU from 1500 to 1365 to help with PS3/Netflix troubles based on other posts in this forum (that did seem to help).
As you can see I am not the only person seeing this problem with E3000 and PS3 - there is a common theme here:
    http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Network/SLOW-DOWNLOAD-SPEED/td-p/45496873
I am not sure if there is some setting I can change to affect PS3/E3000 wireless transfer or if this is just a flat out bug that needs addressing by Cisco/Linksys?
Thanks for any thoughts you may have,
    -Dan

    Try this.
    1) Application and gaming TAB, section QOS, enable Internet Access Priority, click down menu, select MAC Address. Enter PS3 for name, and enter your PS3 MAC address, which is found in your PS3 Network status listing. Save Settings.
    2) Wireless TAB, under Basic Wireless settings, change your channel other than 11, 9, or default. I chose 6, but you can choose whatever, except 9, or 11. That is the most popular channel for 2.4ghz protocol. So everyone in your neighborhood who uses wireless connections would be using it. Default is 11, I believe, on all routers, big or small. Save Settings.
    3) Under Advanced Wireless Setting, in the same Wireless Settings TAB, in the 2.4ghz section, change Beacon Interval to 75, DTIM to 3, Fragmentation Threshold 2304, and RTS Threshold 2304. Save settings.
    4) Setup TAB, under Basic setup, change the MTU to 1365.Save Settings.
Now, on your PS3, you would need to let the PS3 Network settings to change, and then run the test. Got to Network Settings, Change Network Settings, choose Easy. You need your passphrase on this one.
I was going to return this router today, and buy a different one. I've tested the Internet Settings on the PS3, over and over, with consistent download/uploads. Hope this helps.

  • E3000 wireless dropping issue

    Hi,
I recently bought E3000 and for the past two weeks, the wireless signal keeps on dropping.   I have to shut the router down and turn it back on to get the signal again.
Is there anything I can do ?  Or do I have to send it to the service center ?
FW is 1.0.0.4. Hw version 1.

Try changing some wireless settings on the router.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router.
Go to wireless tab and set the configuration view to manual.
Change the wireless network name SSID for 5 Ghz wireless band ( create a new wireless network ).
Change the wireless channel to 11 for 2.4 Ghz wireless band.
    Save the settings.
Go to Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the beacon Interval to 75, RTS and Fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.
Power cycle the router and observe the wireless connection.

  • Often lose wireless connection when using HDTV as monitor

I have an unusual wireless networking problem when using my Samsung HDTV in my living room as a monitor for my MacBook (when watching Internet TV shows, for example). Frequently when I switch URLs, networking freezes, even though the connection appears strong, with the Airport symbol at the top of my screen showing all bars. To re-establish the wireless connection, I have to go through the process of re-joining my network through the “Join Other Network" option. The signal holds as long as I don’t try to change it, as in selecting another URL.
I connect to my HDTV via HDMI cable, using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter from my Macbook’s video-out port. The audio connection is a mini-plug from the Mac’s headphone out jack to stereo RCA plugs associated with the TV’s HDMI port.
The wireless connection is through a Lynksys Wireless-G 2.4 Ghz, 54 Mpbs Broadband router.
I’d appreciate any solutions the Apple user community has to offer.

I'd say this has nothing to do with your display. The problem will likely lie in either your router settings, network settings or a simple signal strength issue. Try first changing the broadcast channel on your router, and make sure all settings are correct for your desired network.

  • Can't configure Wireless Connection to HP OfficeJet Pro L7780

I recently purchased both my iMac 24" 2.8GHz computer with OS x 10.5.2 and HP OfficeJet Pro L7780. I was able to use the HP setup CDs for my Windows laptops and configured them to use the printer in a wireless configuration.
The iMac is creating the headache (actually I think it's HP causing the headache). When I try to install HP's driver 9.7.1 using their utility, it is unable to detect the L7780 in a wireless configuration. The moment I connect via USB or wired Ethernet, the printer is detected without a problem. My printer is located @ 192.168.1.30, fixed IP address via a NetGear FSW308 switch. My iMac is fixed @ 192.168.1.100 and the gateway is 192.168.1.1
I spent hours on the phone with HP support and am still in the same spot... HP software won't find the printer when it is wireless. I can configure OS x 10.5.2 to use the internal L7700 series driver and put the IP address in the dialog box. The printer prints without issue using the OS printer drivers, but the other features such as scan and fax will not work without the HP software.
I can ping the printer and I can connect to the printer's EWS, but the HP software will not find the software.
Overall config: iMac wireless network connection to switch; Printer also wireless connection to switch.
So far HP is dumbfounded and all they can say is that I should call Apple because the printer software works fine when I connect the Ethernet or USB cables.
    HELP!
    Thanks,
    Roland

Thank you for the thought. Yes, although my SSID is public, I have a WEP 128-bit security key. The printer, the iMac and my Windows laptops all connect to the wireless network without issue, as evidenced by my Windows laptops and iMac (if I use the driver included with OS X 10.5.2).
I can ping the printer from the iMac as well as connect to the printer's web interface, so connectivity exists. It is as if the setup software or the printer are trying to communicate using a port that or service that OS X may be blocking.
My OS X firewall is configured to accept all connections though... so that shouldn't be the issue unless there is a bug in accepting all connections.
    Thanks,
    Roland

  • I get wireless connection but my internet does not work on my ipad 2

I get wireless connection but my internet does not work on my ipad 2

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

_Maybe_  your situation is the same.
The fix in all 3 cases was to go to device manager and uninstall the wifi driver.  Then scan for hardware changes and let it reinstall the driver.  Something about how Access Connections or some other networking mangement thingy was hooking the drivers I guess.
On both of the friend's machines, the wired networking was also b0rked.  Same fix there.

    Hi there,
my printer cannot find any wireless connection available.
and the blue light on the wifi icon is blinking.
how do I solve this problem so i can print again?

The blue wireless light flashing means you are not connected to your routers SSID.  You need to go back and connect to your routers SSID with it's password to get the light on solid.

After downloading Yosemite my printer, a HP Photosmart D100 will no longer print. The wireless connection is fine, and a test page printed perfectly directly from my printer. When trying to print from my computer, it says it cannot connect or find the printer. I tried downloading the most updated software from HP website but it doesn't appear to be helping.

    Try resetting the printing system.
