E31 thinkstation tower graphics card upgrade

I am using nVidia Quadro 2000 that came with my workstation, but I want to upgrade to game better. Can I install a GTX 660 in the workstation? If not, what graphics cards can I install?

Unless your E31 has the special bid higher output power supply (450W I think), you're going to be limited to bus powered cards for graphics with a max TDP of 75W.  The E31 is not really much of a gaming system in it's standard configuration.  Even with the larger power supply, you might run into mechanical interferences in trying to use a large double-wide card  such as the GTX660.

    Welcome to the discsussions!
The graphics chipset is integrated into the logic board and cannot be replaced or upgraded.
Are you sure you saw one for the MacBook Pro and not the Mac Pro desktop tower?

  • Slimline s5-1010 - HDMI graphics card upgrade, what graphics cards will work in slimline box?

Slimline s5-1010 - HDMI graphics card upgrade, what graphics cards will work in slimline box?  Cheap will do, under 100.  Has 1 PCI Express x16, but the slot on back of pc looks about 2" too short for this?

    Hi-
I think you will find there are more users of the ATI Radeon 9800 that DON'T have a 300w PSU, than those that do. It would leave out the majority of the G4 line if it were absolutely necessary. As I see it, it isn't absolutely necessary, and, it is also the ONLY higher end upgrade graphics card commercially produced for 2x, 4x AGP systems, most of which, DON'T have a 300w PSU.
My Sawtooth has a 237w PSU, and the 9800, and my processor upgrade, and 2 internal drives, all work just fine!
As for the piggyback connection, that is how you connect the power to the 9800. A splitter molex cable is used to split power from the superdrive connection, between the superdrive and the 9800.

  • 1st Gen Mac Pro - Graphics card upgrade options?

    Hi guys,
I have the 1st gen Mac Pro with 2 x 3GHz dual core xeons and a Radeon X1900 graphics card. I have wanted to upgrade to a new card for a while, however, I can't find any that apple say are compatible. I wanted to upgrade to a 5870 but on apples website it said this wasn't compatible with the first gen.
What is the limiting factor here? Is it the software or hardware?
What is the best card I can get for my machine?
    Please help!
    Thanks Guys
    Tom

Your post has been added to a thread regarding Mac Pro Xeon Tower computers. These have nothing in common with your MacBook Pro.

  • M58 Graphic card upgrade

HI everyoneI read some information on this forum about Thinkcentre M58, but nothing that can really help me.
I want to buy a new graphic card and I would like to know if there are limitation about Graphic Cards that I can install on this machine. It's not understandable why a desktop computer cannot be upgraded if the motherboard has all the expansion slots needed! Thank you for any suggestions.Regards

I don't know if the OP is still checking this thread, but I thought I would chime in anyways. Warning: long rambling post ahead.
I had the same problems when I was looking for GPU upgrade options for my M58p (tower form factor), There wasn't too much information out there concerning aftermarket upgrades.
If I recall correctly; the information I managed to find seemed to point out that the BIOS would only recognize AMD/Radeon cards up to the 4xxx series. For nVvidia I did find mention of the 9500 GT.
Aside from BIOS limitations. The only limit there would be, is the power supply. I don't know what type of M58 your PC is. My M58p has a Delta Electronics (model# 280GB-C) 280 watt installed.
    ====
    Now for my personal experience
A few months after trying to figure out what GPU I could upgrade and having found nothing regarding cards newer than 5 years. I gave up the search and resigned myself to just having to build or buy a newer PC. On black friday; a local computer store had nVidia's low-end wonder GPU - the GTX 750ti - on for $120 with a 20 dollar mail-in rebate. Instead of letting the card sit in the box for a few months, while waiting for other parts to come on sale. I figured why not see if it can work in the M58p... IT DID!
Disconnected the power from the tower.Installed the 750ti in the PCIe x16 slot. Reconnected power and booted to the BIOS and disabled the built-in intel graphics.Rebooted and the screen stayed black. After 2 minutes I thought the computer had hung. but then it rebooted on it own a second time and made it into Windows 7.Start menu>Right click on Computer> Properties> then clicked into Windows Experience index. The 750ti showed up.Installed nVidia's latest drivers and rebootedEnjoying a 500%+ increase in performance over intel built in graphics ====
I've been running it with no hiccups for 2 months now and the PSU seems to be able to handle it with no problems. I'll see if I can dig up some screenshots that prove that the card is running and recognized and utilized by the operating system and since there are so many different sub-models of the M58 and M58p. I'll check to see what model my motherboard is and which BIOS it's running.
So if Julian_ was able to install a GTX 750Ti does that mean i could potentally install a R7 250X?
I have recently purchased a ex govt. M58 7484-AF3 (tower, not SFF case) for a very good price and and have also found an R7-250X 2G DDR5 for a steal and was wondering if its possible to use this on the OEM Lenovo board. I will be upgrading the PSU to accomidate the VGA card (plus other things like SSD, extra 4gb ram etc)
    Cheers

  • Graphics Card Upgrade with 2008 MacPro?

Hello: I have a sturdy, workhorse 2008 MacPro (6 gigs RAM). I need to confirm if I can/need to upgrade the graphics card that came with the original box. (Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 2600). Am buying a NEC PA271W-BK 27 monitor and X-rite ColorMunki, whose specs say I need "1024 x 768 or higher display resolution with 16-bit video card." (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/798928-REG/X_Rite_CMUNDIS_ColorMunki_Displ ay.html)
Thoughts? (Would prefer not to buy new MacPro yet, as this machine likely has at least another year). Thanks.

RE: Mac Pro silver tower (2006-2012) Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5 [BUT! This card has just been discontinued and is no longer available in the Apple Store, or at many Apple Resellers]
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

And this laptop is a gift of my aunt from USA, and I'm living in Viet Nam now. So if yes, can HP Vietnam do the upgrade for me? My aunt's family is very busy so I can't resend my laptop and ask them to return to you.
    Thank you very much!

    Hi:
The only way to upgrade the video card in your notebook is to replace the entire motherboard which would cost as much as buying a new notebook with better graphics.
If you had HP do the upgrade, it would probably cost more than buying 2 notebooks with better graphics than yours.

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion a1020n Desktop Computer and it's PTGD-LA (Goldfish3) motherboard. According to the specs, your computer has no dedicated graphics card expansion slot. The only expansion slots available on this system are three traditional and/or conventional PCI slots. One of these slots currently contains a K56flex modem.
Here is a selection of PCI graphics cards that may meet your requirements. Please note that these cards may also require you to upgrade your power supply as well.

    Hi,
The main problem you are going to face is your PC only has a 160W Power Supply Unit.  Without upgrading your PSU, you will struggle to find any card that will improve your graphics capability.

  • Processor and graphics card upgrade for hp dc5100 MT(EF633US)

Can someone kindly tell me a variety of Intel processors and graphic cards which i can install in my pc coz right now i'm using Intel pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz and Intel 82915G/GV/910GL express chipset. but i would like to upgrade to a faster processor and a graphics card which can play games which require large graphic memory (eg FIFA 2013,GTA 5.etc)

    Hi:
Personally, I wouldn't invest the money to upgrade that PC.
You would be better off getting an off lease newer dc5800 MT or dc7800/dc7900 model that has a PCIe x16 video slot.
The killer for your model is you can only install a PCI graphics card.
Very inefficient and pretty expensive for what you get in return.
After you install the required microcode update, the best processor I know for sure you can install would be the P4 650.
Below is the link to the quickspecs.  The supported processors are listed on page 7.
I do not know of anyone who that has installed the 651 or 661 processors and got them to work--even though the specs state they are supported.
You can try the 651 or 661 and if you do, please let me know if they worked for you.

  • Processor and Graphics Card Upgrade For HP ProBook 4445s

    Hey guys,
I wanted to ask that  I have a HP4445s with the A6 4400m processor and don't find it enough to play games.
The processor is a little bit slow and the graphics are kind of horrible for a gamer.
I feel like upgrading to a new processor.
The one that  I found nice is the
    AMD FD8350FRHKBOX FX-8350 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition Processor
I just wanted to ask whether I could upgrade to this.
I also wanted to find out that it says that there are no integrated graphics, so does that mean I will have to purchase a new graphic card?
    Thanks,
    Please reply!

That is a desktop processor and will not fit in any laptop. Right now some of the HP Support pages are down but I believe you can install an A10 AMD CPU which would improve the graphics just a little. There is no graphics "card" as you might be thinking of. It is a flat motherboard inside the laptop case with all the chips including video soldered on that board. The video comes from within the processor working with helping chips on the motherboard. An A10 processor provides slightly better graphics but nothing that will increase the gaming potential very much. That is a business laptop for doing Powerpoints and Spreadsheets and maybe watching a youtube video or playing a DVD. It is not a gamer. HP now makes the Omen laptop at about $1500 which would handle most high end games.

  • Graphic card upgrade on Satellite A60

My Queston is if there is any possibitity to change my Radeon Mobility 7000 igp of my Satellite A60 for a better card or do i have to by a complete new Mainboard?

    Hello
This theme was discussed a lot of time in the forum and there is a simply and short answer: No, its not possible to upgrade the graphic card.
The card is a little chip which is fixed on the mainboard.
About the motherboard changing: Well, its not very easy because of a exact fitting and compatibility.

  • Graphics card upgrade on my A60?

    Hi,
I've had an A60 with on-board ATI Raedon 7000 shared memory graphics for over a year and have had ongoing problems with crashing. I seem to have (at least temporarally) resolved this issue by reducing the colours to 16m...
I am now using some more graphics intensive programs (games) and wonder if anybody can suggest a way of making things like "Age of Empires III" work faster than 1 frame per second (short of buying a desktop)?
I wouldn't mind upgrading the graphics chip to a card if this is possible but any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Many thanks,
    Paul.

    Hi
Daniel is right. Its not possible to upgrade the notebook graphic cards.
The notebook technology is very tricky and you cant compare it wit the desktop PC.
By the way: The Age of Empires 3 is newer game and to play it you need a high performance pc and graphic card with good cooling system
