E3200 - https and mac cloning problem
Took me one whole day to get it working. 3 different Linksys tech supports worked with me in chat sessions for 5-6 hours. Eventually, figured out a trick that would get it working every time: I had to do mac address cloning manually, because somehow this router doesn't work with my cable modem with default mac address?
The funny thing is that the first 2 tech support guys already helped me find out we should do manual mac cloning to get it working, yet the 3rd tech support guy insisted that Cisco Connect software already took care of mac cloning, there's no need to manually do it, and the only thing to blame is the intermittent network connection of my ISP. But my old D-Link works fine with the cable modem and the ISP. It's just this new E3200 router kept having problem, unless I manually clone mac address...
Another funny thing is that, the setup page of the router allows you to enable https, yet https apparently doesn't work on this version of firmware (as of Mar 23 2012). I disabled http and enabled https only, hoping that it'd be more secure to access the setup pages that way, only to find out that since https doesn't work, there's no way to log into the router any more, unless I reset it...
To set the router all it requires is a proper physical connectivity between your modem, router and computer. There are 2 way to setup the router.
1) Setting it up through Cisco Connect software.
2) Setting it up through manual configuration.

Second, I would like to ask few question. Like did you try opening up the router management page by “https://192.168.1.1” in Internet Explorer 8. If not, then try to open the Router Management page in the same manner in any other browser and check whether it opens or not.

If there was a way to give negative stars to this router, I would. As it is, the minimum rating I can give this product is one star, and that's one star too many.
I was upgrading from the WRT54G, which is an ugly thing to look at, but a reliable workhorse nonetheless. I turned that in to a downstream switch in my comms hub.
On the E1200, I flashed the latest firmware, used different Cat5 cables, and different laptops before committing to hating this product.
The first time I reached out to Amazon, the Amazon rep gave me a Cisco number to call. Turns out, that's some shady mortgage refinance hotline. Try it for yourself! 1-800-666-1771.
Now, the rant -
1. Two out of four wired LAN ports don't work: What can be the fix for this?! The activity lights on ports 3 and 4 blink and suggest data transfer is taking place, but the wired laptop simply can't acquire an IP address and access the internet. Same result when I connect my Panasonic Blu-Ray player to ports 3 and 4. None of the Viera Cast features load.
2. MAC filtering unreliable: The wireless routing works somewhat reliably, if and only if, one settles for the most basic security. If I only choose a password and WPA2 protocol, things work fine. If I add another layer of security (in my case, enabling MAC filtering and only PERMITTING gateway to listed MAC IDs), things break down. As soon as I disable MAC filtering, wireless access to authenticated clients is restored.
3. Cisco customer service: The censored world we live in, compels me to criticize politely. TERRIBLE. Cisco website is unintuitive, and frustrating. There's no easy way to register your purchased product. The Cisco "registration" is intentionally misleading and deceptive. For all intents and purposes, it's just an information gathering tool for Cisco. Don't bother registering there, unless you love the idea of storing your personal information on their servers. Their phone-based customer service is apathetic and uninterested. My rep was so distrusting of my intelligence and motor control, that he simply wouldn't believe that I had selected "PERMIT" and not "PREVENT" as the option under MAC filtering. After he asked me the same question for the fourth time, I raised my voice, and he gave up the idea of checking for the fifth time.
However, this review is a tale of two companies. I reached out to Amazon again. This time, I got a rockstar in the shape of Leanne C! She was incredibly helpful, and understanding. What's more, she set up my return without any hassle and this Cisco dud is on its way back. I'm a big fan of Leanne's and my confidence in Amazon is restored.
I'm sure that i received a lemon. I've never had problems with Linksys products. Maybe others' experience is different from mine.In your case as port numbers 1 and 2 does not work, what you could have done a loop back test. To perform a loop back test you need to take an ethernet cable, connect one end of that cable to internet port and the other end to the non-working port on the router. If you get the led to glow on both internet and the respective ethernet port that indicates that the port is working fine.
It could also be a sychronization issue between the above mentioned lan ports and the lan card of your computer. As a part of trouble shooting you can try to reduce the card speed of your lan card. Following are the steps to reduce the speed of your lan card.
START--> right-click My Network Places and click Properties
right-click on the device manager and click properties
Click on the CONFIGURE button
Select the ADVANCED tab and in the box under the header property select "speed and duplex" and change the value on the right to 10 mbps half duplex. A restart would be recommended after performing these steps.
In the second half you said that after enabling the mac filter option the internet breaks down. Here, do you mean to say that the computer
gets disconnected from the wireless network or it stays connected with a valid IP address but without an internet connection.
Well, it is an unusual issue however you could have reset and reconfigure the router as you got the latest firmware upgraded on it.
Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process. -
Urgent 802.1x and MAC-Authentication Problem

I want to deploy the mac- authentication in my network. and I have 3000 users. In the lab the authenticatoion for the machine takes:
Vista : 15 - 20 seconds
XP : 30 - 35 seconds
Is there any way to reduce this time less than 10 seconds. My users count are 3000 will the time go bigger because of this.
Please help me.

amadyWith ACS, you can setup NARs (or Network Access Restrictions) to permit/deny access based on IP/non-IP based filters (like MAC Addresses).

Photoshop and Mac sleep problem.
Hi everyone, I have a MacBook Pro Retina, intel i7, 8 GB of RAM, SSD, I've installed the Photoshop CC (2014) trail version, because i'm interested to buy the complete version. The problem is that if my mac goes in stop, only after the installation of PS, when i try to use it, the MacBook shows me only a black screen with the pointer for about 30 second. I called Apple Support and they say me to contact Adobe support. Anyone has the same problem? How can I solve it? I'm interested to buy the complete version, but I don't want this problem. Thank you!

Itunes and Mac Pro Problem -- Help Please
Having a really strange problem and could use some help.
I've got a Mac Pro with my wife's Ipod attached. Updating songs on the Ipod has become very, very slow. Literally, it's taking hours to move over a couple of albums.
Just out of curiousity, I hooked it up to a Macbook Pro in the house and everything was just fine. Tried reinstalling itunes on the Mac Pro and it didn't do it the trick.
All machines are intel based. Other peripherals are working fine.

RoadRunner SMTP and Mac Mail problem
Hello all. I have set up my new iMac, and am attempting to get my RoadRunner email working. The inbound server (POP) works fine. I can receive email without a hitch. However, the outgoing server is not working, and I get an error message saying that I need to double check the password and username. I have verified with RoadRunner that my server addresses, username, and password are all correct. The RR webmail works fine sending/receiving. The issue seems to be with the Mac Mail program. Any ideas on how I can get it going? I am connected to the internet via my Airport Express wireless network if that matters. (And a RR Cable Modem.) Thank you for any help!
Road Runner SMTP mail is surprisingly difficult to get working with Apple Mail, even if you have all the values exactly correct. I had this issue at a client last week, and these are the instructions I followed to get it working. See the second post in the thread - it does have some confusing steps, so read the following posts too, which clarify them. Basically you're going to set up the account again, manually, but with no SMTP authentication.

Blue Screen, Missing Dock and Mac HD problems
There seem to be at least three problems with my iMAC:
1) the screen is blue even though under System Preferences, it is set for an image,
2) the Dock is missing even though under Dock Settings, it should not be hidden and should be at the bottom (oddly when I select "right" location for the dock, the radio button does not light up, but is changed if I close and reopen the preferences screen), and
3) clicking on the Macintosh HD does not open it or the other files (e.g., PDF, *.doc) on the Desktop.
The only recent change I made to the system was to add Clamxav for virus scans, but that was scheduled to run on Monday. I have been traveling and my spouse is not sure when the issues started.
I have tried the PRAM re-set explained elsewhere, but that did not help. Any other possible solutions?Welcome to Discussions - my first response would be to reset the PRAM, even though yu have already done it Try doing it again and if that doesn't help, check your disk using Disk Utility:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Please post back with results, it could be a combination of problems, or it coul be corrupted preferences, try running Preferential Treatment to see if that's the case. -
IPad and Mac authorization problems.
When I plug in my iPad 2 into my Mac iTunes says that it is no longer authorized to play things that I have purchased on my iPad. It took off more than half my apps and I cannot put them back on. When I try to authorize my computer, it says that it is already authorized. Please help!
Have you downloaded apps on your iPad from two different accounts? For example, your friends account then your account.
If so, click authorize this computer, and then authorize the other account. -

You need her to sign out of your account using the button with sign out written on it.
Then sign in using her account details. If she doesn't have an account, use the create Apple ID link in the set up window. -
Does anyone know any program that can clone a HD with Windows 7 Boothcamp and Mac OSX install? I use window 7 system image, but it wiped out the System Discovery in Mac. I use Super Duper to coyy and restored my Mac. My drive disappeared in Mac Disk Utilit after restored window 7. I cand still boot window and Mac with the Option key. Well last time I checked Winclone was still working to clone a Windows partition of Bootcamp.
However as you know you really can't clone Windows for long and use it as it takes the hardware aspects and calls Microsoft and finally invalidates your Windows version if you don't change things with them.
Cloning OS X a breeze, as doing so makes any drive with OS X on it hold the option key bootable, so it's excellent for repairs and recovery.
The only software I've heard of that can clone multiple partitions at the same time is Clonezilla, however it won't tweak OS X and "bless it" to make it bootable, so it's not bootable. Not to mention being incredibly hard for most users to use.
So the best option is to create a Windows System Restore image on DVD's or a hard drive, then clone OS X.
virtual machines of Windows are no problem, they are just files like anything else and cloned with OS X no sweat.

Socket problem after upgrading to Xcode 4.2 and Mac OS 10.7.2

Everything was working fine until I upgraded to Xcode 4.2 and Mac OS 10.7.2 yesterday.
The server cannot read data written by the client. Attempting to read returns -1 which means end of stream.
Any idea why this has happened?

This shows a 5.9 sec delay for the first sigaction, and a full response is received some long 20 secs later on the prompt.
Some feedback from engineering regarding this issue since the 9i release has been:
"This is a known problem with signal handlers and the lazy binding we have on Mac OS X. A small change to how Oracle library's signal
handler is installed using _signal_nobind(3) and
_dyld_lookup_and_bind_fully(3) could help to solve this problem.
The problem that we are trying to avoid is a possible dead lock from
code that could be called in a signal handler when the thread that
gets the signal is in the middle of lazy binding a symbol. So when a
signal handlers installed the default action is to cause it to be
bound fully. This is made very expensive by the mismatch of the
interfaces to signal(3) and segvec(2) like routines which are passed
an address and the dynamic linker that wants a global symbol name. So the end result is to call the routine _dyld_bind_fully_image_containing_address(3) with the address of the signal handler to be bound. Which binds everything in the image (in this case the Oracle shared library).

Problems with Bluetooth and Mac OS X 10.4.4
Hello all,
I recently installed the the X.4.4 update on my PowerBook, and now it is having problems connecting to my RAZR. When I try to "Rebond" to it, it says an unexpected error has occurred (on the PB), and shows no bluetooth devices. Also, I am using a program called "BluePhoneMenu", and about every 15 seconds, it changes from active, to error. It waits another 15 seonds, and changes back (never connecting to the phone.) Macbook Pro (late) 2008 won't recognize HDD and MAC OS X installed, but recognizes SAME HDD with Windows installed ... where is the problem !???
