Resetting the router via user interface should be ok. If you are still experiencing the issue after the upgrade and reset, adjust the MTU settings.

  • WRTU54G-TM Internet/WiFi Help Needed

I recently just purchased this wireless router for phone service and I set it up and it works just fine, but my WiFi on my Nintendo DS Lite has stopped working. It worked with my last Linksys wireless router so I started trying things on my new router and these are the results. When I installed the new router it used a WPA Personal wireless sercurity, for my WiFi to work I need a WEP wireless security, so I switched it to a WEP and my DS WiFi worked but at the same time the internet for the 2 other computers in the house stopped working (the main computer's internet worked though). I switched back to a WPA Personal and all the computers work again but no DS WiFi, is there something I can do so my WiFi works and all my computers get internet? Thanks in advance.

WEP could definitely work for all of your devices (although it is a weak security, and WPA is far better and recommended).
"so I switched it to a WEP ... but at the same time the internet
for the 2 other computers in the house stopped working"
Sounds like when you switched to WEP that you forgot to change the settings of the other two computers from WPA to WEP (they are different). To fix this: change to WEP (if you must) and then reconnect the two other computers to the new, WEP network. Specifically, you'll just delete the Wi-Fi connections settings (now using WPA) and then Scan for Networks, and reconnect (using WEP).

  • Internet Sharing Help Needed!

Hi, I have just connected my Mac to an ethernet cable going to my router, but what I'm trying to do is use internet sharing, and it says internet sharing is on and everything! But then I go to my iPad the network is there but it says it is connecting but it's not it just has the spinning circle and then on the black bar on the top right it says I have internet but I don't! Please help me!

  • HH3 WiFi speed help needed

Hi guys - Just bought an XBOX 360 for my son and connected to HH3 via WiFi and it is only connecting at around 43 MBs - when I set up a Windows Media Centre connetion to my laptop and ran a Wi Fi speed test it says the Wi Fi speed is too slow. UH ??  Why is my XBOX and all other N spec'd Wi Fi systems in my house connecting at a maximum of 54 Mbs. I have forced HH3 to Wireless N only. I have turned off every other Wi Fi in the house (all phones / laptops etc so only one device is connected via Wi Fi) and still the maximum speed on any one devive is 54 Mbs.
Every device I am trying to connect is N compatible so why is HH3 only connecting devices at 54 Mbs max?
Also - each device is around 6 feet from the HH3 during these tests. There is no other electrical interference nearby - the wirelss channel is set to auto ( and is currently set to 6).
Am I missing something - or is there any way to get higher Wi Fi speeds out of the HH3?
I had an old netgear router with my old Broadband ( I am now on Infinity) and was connecting easily at 150 Mbs with my phones and laptop etc. I only just took note of the slow Wi Fi since getting the XBOX 360 (since I ran the tests)..
Any advice greatly appreciated - dont want to hard wire the thing - another manufacturers router maybe the only solution but the HH3 is supposed to be a 300Mbs Wi Fi capable unit.
    Cheers,
    Graeme

Thanks for some of the feedback - I have checked nearby networks using that inSSIDer utility and it shows 2 networks locally on channels 1 and 4 and the signal strength is so low at around -89 db thier max rates are 54Mb. I'm on channel 6.
I have checked my advanced settings and it states "actual data transfer speed" = 300 Mbs and that is only when I set the "interface type" to 802.11 n 40 MHz.
So I still wonder why none of my Wi Fi "n" enabled adaptors will not connect above 54 Mbs. I tried resetting the router and switching off all cordless phones etc - but just exactly the same. I'll do some testing further as I have a network switch on the Gigabit port on the back of the router connected to a CCTV DVR and so wonder if that somehow is grabbing some of my bandwidth.
    cheers, Graeme.

  • Internet Speed sudden drops (need to reboot) - "FBI" name in WIFI names - Allowed?

Question 1: Why do messages asking for help and complaining about Verizon slow speed do not allow a "REPLY" . Verizon filters them?   I see the messages but thee is no Reply button.
Question 2: in the last two months my internet speed has been dropping regularly (suddenly, Pings go from 100 msec to 999 msec) and requires a reboot of my Box. This is in the Edison (NJ) area. Anybody else in Edison seeing this?
Question 3: I didn't notice any new neighbor moving in but in the last few weeks there is a new WIFI that shows-up in my area called "FBI_investig_1".   Anybody knows if people are allowed to use such FBI name for their WIFI, just curious...  Or is this genuine when FBI has a local investigation? (not very undercover...)

To answer your questions, once the ticket has been referred to a Verizon agent you can't reply to the meassage. As to why your pings times are bad it could be almost anything. You will need a Verizon agent to determine that. Lastly someone just changed their SSID to be a wiseguy. The FBI is not going to tell you that there is an investigation going on in your area.

  • Help needed with Internet settings

    Hi
I recently bought an ipad 2 wifi with iOS 6.
The problem is I can't download apps (error: app can't be downloaded at this time), maps don't load, safari doesn't open a lot of sites (error: can't connect to server) and some sites load without pictures.
    YouTube, though, works just fine.
These are the only things I've tried out so far.
I have a 2mbps mtnl connection. With a pc it's pretty fast. Utorrent consistently gives speeds of 200kbps and above. Why is it so slow with an ipad? Are there any router or network settings that I need to change? Where is this option in an ipad anyway?
The ipad seems to be working fine on an Airtel connection so it's definitely a networking problem. Can anyone help? I contacted my ISP but they are clueless.
My router is d-link 2750u. ISP is Mtnl Delhi

I just did an internet speed test. the connection speed is 2mbps over wifi.
To be clear, I have no problems connectin to wifi. The problem is I'm not able to access some (esp apple) services and websites with this ISP. I'm sure it's some router or network connection setting that needs to be changed. But which one?

  • Help with internet speed on WRT54GL.

Just got my WRT54GL v1.1 firmware 4.30.13 a week ago.  My AT&T (bellsouth) DSL is much slower when connected to the router.  I have a Westell 6100 modem which is in bridged mode and DHCP is off.  Connected direct to the modem, I get 700-800Kb/s(down).  When I am connected through the router, I only get around 300-400Kb/s(down).  I get the same results both wireless and wired.  I have tried turning the firewall on the router off, enabling QoS on a specified port,  and disabling wireless.  Any other ideas that I can try would be greatly appreciated.    I was trying to fix this with the stock firmware, but would going with tomato be the best fix?
My setup is a desktop, laptop, and ps3 (all wired connections).  PPPoE setup with always on enabled.  DHCP setup for 3 ip's.  Need more info, let me know if I am forgeting something.  THanks again.

Basically when you update the firmware of your Router, it solves all the problem...
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
While you Re-configure all the settings on you Router... On the Router setup page, you need to change the MTU size from 1500 to 1365 and click on Save Settings...
On the Wireless Tab.... You need to change the Wireless Channel to : 11-2.462GHz to avaoid Interference.... And your Computers will work perfecly fine...
Set the security on your Router to WPA....
Click on Advance Wireless Settings... and Change the Becon Interval to 50, Fragmentation Threshold : 2306 and RTS Threshold : 2307 and save settings...
Now you can test the Internet Speed on your Computers...

I have a MBA and although I have a broadband connection, the internet speed in the MBA is pathetic. I even can't open a normal song in Youtube in half an hour, so please help !

Has the speed ever been acceptable, or is this something new?  Try resetting Safari and perhaps rebooting your router.

When i connect my MB Pro to external monitor, I've noticed my wireless internet speed decreases almost 3 time.  is there a solution to this? thanks for your help in advance

"How do I find that IP address because I put in the 192.168.1.8.."
That's not the router's IP address. Most likely it will be 192.168.1.1
    System Preferences>Network>Advanced>TCP/IP should show it.

  • E3200 internet speed problem

I've just replace my router from WRT320 to E3200, because I've upgrade my internet speed from 100M to 300M.
But the speed test just show about 90M when using E3200, but if I plug direct without using E3200, the speed is up to 280M. For the firmware, I've tried 1.0.01, 1.0.02 and 1.0.03 aswell. Did anyone got a solution on that?

If you can change the Ethernet cable through which you are connecting the computer.. As well as update the drivers of the LAN card. For updating the drivers of the LAN card follow the steps:
    # Click on Start --> on the search box type "devmgmt.msc" and click Ok...
    # Device manager window will appear and in that check for the Wired adapter.. Right-click on the name of the Adapter that you want to install and click Update Driver Software…
    # A window will appear asking “How do you want to search for the driver software?".. Click “Automatic Update"..
    # It will automatically update find the latest drivers and will update it...
Check the computer if you are running Windows update on the back ground. If it is running then try to disable it temporarily. Here is the link for how to disable it: http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-7/515869-windows-update-enable-disable-automatic-updates-windows-7-...

  • Help needed to somehow link ipad to internet via macbook pro's ethernet

    Hi all
i have just picked up a new iPad 64gb wifi+3g.
I work on a ship where i have a slow but reasonable ethernet connection to the internet.
what i would like to do is use the MBP as a wifi hotspot or via usb cable to share the internet connection.
I have trolled the internet for help on this and managed ( i am pretty new to this ) to find out about sharing the internet settings either by aiport which i asusme is wifi and also usb iphone cable.
When i activate the airport the ipad sees the network and connects with all bars but if i try to connect to the internet in safari or bbc news app etc i get "not connected to the internet message"
can anyone help with idiots guide for settings i should be using on both MBP and iPad to do this correctly?
    All help greatly appreciated.
    Rgds
    Kev

    Hi
I have my MBP connected to the internet via ethernet cable and this is working ok.
I then went into settings and shared the internet by ticking airport / wifi and usb iphone cable. Both together and individually.
i setup a network and gave it a "test" name with and without wep 5 digit password and with and without firewall.
the ipad sees the "test" network and asks to join and i have selected this both with and without password.
Ipad then shows full bars on strength but no internet connection.
I have yet to work out how to do the connection on the iphone usb cable so nothing to go on there.
I will try again and make a note of the IP addresses on both and post them to see what you think.
As far as i can follow i seem to be doing it all correctly unless making a simple mistake along the way.
    cheers

  • SLOW INTERNET*PLEASE HELP SPEED TEST RESULTS ATTACHED

just wanted to share my results.
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/1013255725.png
    YOU'VE Got to check it!!!!!

When you ran the tests was your Anti-Virus operational?  I find that some antivirus programs (AVG) will cause bizarre speedtest results.  Temporarily disabling them when you run the tests may show more consistent results.
Your results are showing really high speeds, not slow internet speeds as your subject suggests.

  • Internet speeds keep slowing down to a crawl

I'm having a problem that has only developed in the past week which was during a time when I haven't changed any configurations in that period of time since my son was born a week ago yesterday and I obviously had more important things to do than mess with my network configurations. However, about 2 weeks prior to his birth, in the process of configuring a baby monitoring system with icam source, 3 weeks or so ago, I read that I might be able to improve my internet performance, I ran googles namebench a couple of times and added and re-ordered the DNS servers that had been listed prior to any problems developing based on its' reports. My internet speeds improved as a result of changing those DNS settings and stayed good until the past week. But of course, we now need to use the computer as part of our baby monitoring system and it's not working worth a **** and I'm getting frustrated since I can't put my finger on the problem and I don't really have time to spin around in circles right now. I'm sure it's probably something simple and I can't put my finger on it though. Sleep deprivation is new to me.......
I've kept running log of notes so this is a little deshoveled but I figured the more information I provide the better the chance someone might help me get this solved quickly.
In the last week, since my sons birth, my internet speeds would be okay after restarts and resetting everything, 2.5 Mbps or so but after a 10-15 minutes it starts to slow down to .2-.3 Mbps. I went thru all my network settings, restarted everything, repaired permissions, I've changed ethernet cables reset PRAM, firewall is running, stealth mode enabled, allow signed software incoming connections and my various other programs such as netsessionmac4f3c6b, skype, java, itunes, etc.
All sharing services off and pretty basic login items at startup including growl.
I had AT&T come out and check my DSL line and everything checked out on their end up to and out of the DSL modem based in their equipment tests.
The problem seems to start when I connect my imac (a fairly loaded 27" imac I got in Dec.) First off, as soon as the imac is connected to the modem via ethernet, the old ethernet modem flashes and continues to flash, even right after startup. So the tech thought something was running in the background and I can't figure out what. I looked through login items but don't see anything that would be a problem and am afraid to eliminate everything.
So I created a guest account to eliminate any login items (I think) and in I got 5.69 Mbps right off the bat. But after a minute or two, without changing anything my download speed slows down and I get for example .77 Mbps. The same thing happens with my administrator account on the imac. Fast speeds at startup and more importantly if I change the configuration by switching between ethernet and airport, I get fast speeds right after changing the configuration but after a minute or two I am well below 1.0 Mbps. I've got several network configurations with automatic, airport and ethernet set up in different ways including a clean ethernet connection with the original DNS settings.
I haven't set up an airport only account but that really isn't the way I want to hook up the computer that sits right next to the modem and runs my network. Restarting the old modem and direct connecting the computer to the modem results in the same thing happening.
I connected my ethernet from the (old?) modem directly to my ancient powerbook G4 and I got +5.6 Mbps download but it also slowed down to 300 kbps after 5 minutes or so the first time (old modem?)
Now to explain why I have "old?" listed above. I was then able to get a new DSL modem from AT&T, hook it up just fine, get enormously faster internet service in the 5,000 kbps only to have it slow back down to around 300 kpbs after connected for several minutes.
    directly connected to imac-bypassing router
    3,500 kbps
    after 15 minutes-250 kbps
connected to imac thru router/time capsule with airport extreme
    2500 kbps
    after 15 minutes=166 kbps
directly connected to an older powerbook G4 with new modem
    IP address of 192.168.1.64
    5.65 Mbps on speedtest
    after 15 minutes=5.67 Mbps
    after 30 minutes= 5.59 Mbps
    1 hour-5.66 Mbps
Very solid, stable readings for what I am used to. This would seem to isolate the problem to the imac.
directly connected to imac with new modem
    IP address of 192.168.1.64
    5.8 Mbps on speedtest
    after 30 minutes= .60 Mbps-ping takes 250 ms
    1 hour= .46 Mbps-ping takes 250 ms
Now a problem that only started last night after I hooked up the new modem and started up my old Time capsule/airport configuration, I got a message that said something to effect of "another device on this network is using computer IP address 192.168.1.64. So I tried manually changing last digit of the IP address on the computer to one number higher and it kept saying the start and end range were incorrect so I shut the airport station down since when it was connected, it would not allow the computer to connect thru the router via ethernet. I did a hard reset on the airport and I got it back up and running just fine but the internet speeds on the imacs' ethernet connections are so slow it's practically worthless. I also checked to see what was connected to my airport on any given occasion, 2 iphones, 2 pads, another imac running upstairs and a newer powerbook running icam source that is supposed to be the baby monitor. Except for the laptop everything can use "802.11n" but the powerbook only connects via 802.11g so I have set the airport to that limiting setting.
Any suggestions? Is there a way for me to log what is happening so I can report in more detail?

First thing is to check if the wireless is on a sensible channel: HomeHub doesn't always make sensible choices.  Install inSSIDer on your laptop and see what other devices there are around and if there is any clash.  Also, try moving the HomeHub around a little, even quite small differences can make a big difference to wireless signals.
You could run an ethernet cable from downstairs to upstairs.  Easy to do, but can be a bit unsightly.  If most of your devices are upstairs, you could use this cable to connect the modem to the HomeHub.  If you have devices both up and down, you may want to keep the HomeHub downstairs and add a switch upstairs.
HomePlug may be suitable for you.  If you search Amazon for HomePlug you will see a couple of kits for just over £30.  Don't go for an 85Mbps one.  A 200Mbps such as the TP-link or D-Link should be much better than wireless, but not as good as a cable.
Depending excatly how many devices you want to connect and where, you can pay more and have a builtin wireless at one end: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Devolo-1408-Wireless-N-HomePlug-Adapter/dp/B00472MMCQ/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qi...  Or it may be best for you to use the basic devices and add an old wireless router in switch mode.

  • Time Capsule only runs with 1,1Mbit up/down during data transfer, internet speed is ok, TC is used to extend an existing network

    Hello Everyone,
I have a new 2TB Time Capsule running with a MacBook Air. I want to use the TC to access data (Aperture library, iTunes library, other Files) and to backup my MacBook Air via Time Machine. I set it up, integrated the TC in my Network (FritzBox) by choosing "extend existing network" and it works. BUT only with 1.1Mbit/second while writing or reading Data to/from it. Internet speed is very good, like it was before. While the 1.1Mbit/second seem to be ok with Aperture and iTunes (streaming music and movies) it is still painfully slow and I'm not realy happy with that
    I've read that:
The 1.1Mbit problem is pretty common when Time Capsule is integrated and used to extend a network (bridge modus), it also looses all ethernet connectivity then (that woul explain why connecting it by ethernet didn't help during initial setup and data transfer)
Is there a solution besides ditching the Fritzbox and using the TC to build the network? Because basicly I still need the Fritzbox for its DECT features.
Thank you for any help in advance and have a nice day,
    Olli

You have double hop wireless with this setup..
You should bridge the TC.. that is router bridge not wireless bridge, and plug the TC into the Frizyboy by ethernet.
Then you can setup the TC wireless to reinforce the fritzy..
    Same wireless name as SSID.
Same security settings... really should be WPA2 AES or in TC personal.
    Same password..
    Just different wireless channel.
Then you can use 5ghz on the TC if you are up close and personal.
