E3200 with MacBook/OSX 10.5.8
Strange issue.
I have an e3200 which is working just fine with a MacBook Pro/iPad/iPhones/Apple TV
However, throughput to a 13-inch MacBook w/10.5.8 is really, really slow. I've tried connecting through 2.4ghz, 5ghz AND using the ethernet cable. All teh same, just really slow
Plugging directly to modem and through an older Linksys 802.11g work work just fine.
Thoughts?
What is the current firmware version on the router? This may seem like a firmware issue. But for now try disabling CTF that you can find under the administration tab. I did a search on that and it improves the efficiency of packet forwarding between the local network and the Internet.

Why won't Cinematic Display work with Macbook OSX 10.5.8?
I have the 27" Cinematic Display - just got it a couple mont. Works fine with my MacBook Pro. So far we have had no luck getting my wife's MacBook 2.4 gig Core Duo running OSX 10.5.8 to detect the display when we plug in the mini port. Is there a way to manually get it to detect the screen or is there something I'm missing?

The biggest mistake users make with Mini DisplayPort is not pushing the cable-end into the port all the way. It must be inserted until "essentially ALL of the metal part disappears inside the socket". -
Is Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 compatible with MacBook OSx 10.6?
I can't see the external hard drive on my MacBook. Is there a compatibility issue?
Have you partitioned and formatted the drive for Mac?

I have recently purchased MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion and I would like to install Final Cut Pro 6 Studio2, and it came up with this error: 'you can't open application FinalCutProStudio.mpkg because PowerPc apps are no longer supported......Is there a way to run FCP6 on lion withoput this error? Any help would be appreciated.....

I read that it is not on Snow Leopard only on Leopard....so do I need to get only Leopard? Can u advise?

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.

I have heard horror stories about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma. I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop. Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file. For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

I just bought a Quantaray All-in-one card reader. It does not work with my Macbook OSX.
I just bought a Quantaray All-in-one card reader. My Macbook OSX does not seem to read it. I have tried attaching it with iphoto on both before and after attaching the card reader to the computer and also have tried another card. Directions say that a green light should come on to prove that connection has been made; I only get a red light. I am Europe with no help and am desperate. Can anyone out there please help? Thanks.
There is no way to use the Thunderbolt display with a computer that has no Thunderbolt port.

Hello everybody. I am trying to reinstall my Quicktime 7 Pro after having my MacBook OSX 10.5.8 cleaned out following a hacking. I have Quicktime player and I reregistered with the purchased registration code for Quicktime 7 pro. It seems to be successfully registered with "Quicktime 7 Pro" appearing under the inserted registration code but it is not showing in Applications folder and I do not know how to access it or what to do. Need help with Tamil unicode fonts in Macbook OSX 10.6.7
I am really desperate for some help figuring out my Tamil unicode font problem. With great difficulty I got all these fonts set up on my previous ibook G4. When that computer died in the fall I got this new Macbook, and had all my data brought from the old computer to the new one. Fonts were working great, as before. Well recently I had a hard drive failure on my new Macbook (OSX 10.6.7). I now have a new hard drive, and I brought over all my data from an external hard drive using Time Machine. Everything appeared to be working great....except the Tamil fonts. Previously I was using Murasu Anjal unicode font which allowed me to type in Tamil font and view Tamil on webpages, no problem. I understand that Snow Leopard has Tamil font support (including Anjal), so I am confused as to why they were working before but are not working now-especially because on my husband's Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.5) you can see Tamil fonts on webpages and he has no special Tamil font installed whatsoever. For me the only thing visible is boxes. I am in the midst of finishing up a dissertation which is really dependent on being able to read and write in Tamil fonts. I am desperate to get this fixed but just cannot seem to figure it out. I would greatly appreciate any help or advice!!! Thanks so much!!!
I've always used the Anjal keyboard with no problem...at least there was no problem before my MacBook hard drive had to be replaced, with a newer operating system, as I had mentioned previously. When I type in Pages, NeoOffice or TextEdit, the results are the same. Many of the characters show up, but vowel combinations--especially the "o" or "u" vowels--show up incorrectly or are unintelligible. Strangely, typing in Tamil font (using Anjal keyboard) in internet searches works perfectly, but ONLY in Firefox (?) NOT in the Safari browser. Prior to re-installing the InaiMathi font, which had seemingly vanished with the transfer of my data to the new hard drive, I was unable to type Tamil anywhere, not even in Firefox. Now it works only in Firefox. For example, if I were to type in Tamil in this window, it works fine: தமிழ் நாடு.
Being able to do Tamil searches in Firefox as I had previously is really a major boon for me, but of course I'd love to be able to produce Tamil text, especially as I am about to embark on a 6 month research jaunt to South Asia.

I got a iphone 5 but it does not work on my MacBook with Mac OSx 10.5.8 it says i need OSX 10.6.8 but it will not download because I need OSX 10.6 but it would load either. How do I get the older operating system to work with the IPhone5?
You don't. Since you have an Intel Mac, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store.

Syncing notes between iPad and a MacBook with Lion OSX
I cannot sync notes manually between iPad and MacBook - I could do that with Snow Leopard by creating a subfolder in Notes and keeping my Notes in that subfolder. This doesn't work with Lion OSx - any ideas out there
I would prefer MobileMe but have not been able to use that to sync notes. So - I use itunes and check "Sync notes" under Other in the Info tab

This will change the regular wired ethernet port on you MBP. To change the wireless MAC you should replace the en0 with an en1 but if you have a Airport v1.0 card then it will not work. It might work if you have a v2.0 but people seem to have off an on success with that. Also you can attempt putting ether in place of lladdr if you still have issues that need troubleshooting.
I know there are some legit reasons to change the MAC address and many non-legit ones but lets just say for instance a friend of yours has a network or wireless and they forgot their password to control the settings on that network. Long ago when they made the network they limited access to it by binding it to certain MAC addresses namely theirs. Now they have given you permission to use the network but you can't because your computer does not have their mac address. They cannot make the network give you permission because they forgot their password so they give you thier MAC address and let you trick their network into thinking your computer is actually your friend's and then you are able to surf the internet. They won't just let you use their computer cause they need to write an essay offline for a few hours. This does not violate any terms of service, you got permission and unless there are some other extenuating circumstances this is a legit move. I assume this is the exact reason you want this information. -
I have a white Macbook 2009 on OSX Lion. It came with the OSX Snow Leopard CD, I erased the HDD and am trying to install the OSX from disc but am getting "cannot install OSX from disc" message. What can I do?
I got the macbook from a friend a few years ago and it already had OSX Lion installed. Whenever it boots from the Snow Leopard disc it says it cannot install from disc. When your computer starts up you'll be at the first install screen, choose your language and click the arrow to go to the next screen. This screen has a menu bar, from the Utilities menu select Disk Utility, select your hard drive, this is the one with the manufacturers name or numbers, click the partition tab and then delete any existing partitions by selecting them and clicking the minus. In the drop down box select one partition and click apply. Name your hard drive and click erase. When it's done quit DU and go back to the installer, install Snow Leopard. When the installer is done and the computer is back up and running run Software Update to get to 10.6.8
