E4200: incredibly slow wired-to-wired speeds?

Using 1.0.03.
I am seeing something pretty bizarre: when trying to copy files between two computers (both Windows 7 SP1 64bit), both physically plugged into the back of the E4200, I see extremely slow transfer speeds: 1.0-1.1 MB/sec.  Both computers are fast (i7-2600K, both using SSDs) and both have gigabit ports (and the 4200's web UI shows both ports in question as operating in gigabit mode).
Has anyone else seen this?  This is so slow as to be sort of funny.  Each of these computers see speeds well in excess of that when transferring between the computer and outside internet sites...so it's kind of funny that two computers plugged into the same switch in the back of the 4200 see 1 MB/second.  Any ideas?

This has me curious.  No, I haven't seen this.  How are you copying between systems?  Are you using a homegroup, or have both systems in the same workgroup and are sharing files and/or folders or what?  If both of these computers can access the internet, they should have full access to each other at the same or higher speeds if the Windows is configured properly.  For example, I can copy from one computer connected to my router to an external hard disk connected to the other at about 21MB/sec (using eSATA).
So if you have these two systems configured so that they can share folders and files, then this should just work.
I guess the first thing I'd try is resetting the router and power-cycling it, and see if that straightens things out...to reset it, press the recessed "reset" button on the back of the router and hold it in for about 30 seconds, then power-cycle it by pulling out the power cord for about 30 seconds and plugging it back in.  As a resutl of doing the reset, you'll have to reconfigure the router (re-enter your settings) since the reset changes all the settings back to factory defaults.

  • Incredibly slow browsing despite line speed of 3.5...

For about the last week I've had incredibly slow browsing. When I run the BT speed checker it comes back at between 3.5M and 4M. It's like the data is broken up into chunks which are separated by a lot of time. It's like the bad old days of dialup.
The speed tester comes back and said
    download speed was 3692Kbps
    range 1000-7150Kbps
DSL connection rate 4672Kbps downstream and 888Kbps upstream
    IP profile 4000Kbps

Are there any other tests or web sites, I should visit to try and establish what's going on, before I bite the bullet and report it as a fault?
I'm running Windows XP on a homehub 1 connected with an Ethernet cable and IE8

Sorry I didn't reply straight away it got so bad I couldn't do anything, so I reported it as afault.
I was told there was a fault in the exchange and someone would call me.
No-one has called me back,  but overnight the problem seems to have gone.

  • Extremely Slow USB 3.0 Speeds When Transferring Large Amounts of Video

    Hi there,
I am transferring large amounts of footage (250GB-1.75TB chunks) from 5x 5400rpm 2TB drives to 5x 7200rpm 2TB drives simultaneously (via 6x USB 3.0 connections and 4x SATA III, with copy/paste in explorer) and the transfer speeds are incredibly slow. Initially the speeds show up as quite fast (45-150mb/ps+) but then they slow down to around 3mb/ps.
The drives have not been manually defragmented but the vast majority of the files on each are R3D video files.
I am wondering if the amount of drives/data being used/sent is what is causing such slow speeds or if there might be another culprit? I would be incredibly appreciative to learn of any solutions to increase speed significantly. Many thanks...
    Specs:
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
    Processor: i7 4790k
    RAM: 32GB
    GPU: Nvidia 970 GTX

If the USB ports are all on the same controller, they share their resources, so the transfer rate with 6 ports would be max 1/6-th of the transfer rate with 1 USB port if we disregard the overhead. Add that overhead to the equation and the transfer rate goes down even further. Now take into account the fact that you are copying from slow 5400 RPM disks that effectively max out at around 80 MB/s with these chunks and high latency, add the OS overhead and these transfer rates do not surprise me.

  • Slow Xbox 360 Wired Connection Speed

My Xbox 360 Elite console is connected to my home network using a wired connection, but it has a slower speed (gathered using tests on this website) than all of the wireless devices connected to the network. The console achieves about 3 mbps, which is more than 3x slower than what all the wireless devices can achieve.
Here is a basic network map:
ISP ---> Master Router ---> 5-port Ethernet Switch ---> Slave Router ---> TV
                                                         |
                                                         v
                                                   Xbox 360
All wired devices have been labelled
All wireless devices are connected to either router
The TV cannot be tested as it does not have an Internet browser
Can anyone explain why the console achieves a much lower speed than the wireless devices? If so, can a solution be provided?
    Thank you.

I forgot to mention I recently changed the wiring of the network.
    Old wiring:
ISP ---> Master Router ---> 5-port Ethernet Switch ---> Slave Router
                                               |                     |
                                               v                     v
                                         Xbox 360              TV
    New & current wiring:
ISP ---> Master Router ---> 5-port Ethernet Switch ---> Slave Router ---> TV
                                                         |
                                                         v
                                                   Xbox 360
The old wiring made the Xbox 360 download at ~300 kbps and not able to stream videos (neither could the TV). I don't understand why the change of wiring increased the speed so much.

  • Firefox works incredibly slow (as in the window is barely functionable, not anything related to bandwitdh speed) when I'm running certain games on my computer.

    Hello,
During the past month i have had a strange problem with my Firefox browser in certain situations. The issue is only apparent when running certain 3D games (Most frequently when I run Diablo III). Whenever these games are loaded my Firefox browser will work incredibly slow. This is not an issue of a bandwitdh problem or such, the loading speed is fine, but the actual mouse clicks, bookmark clicks, keyboard inputs etc. take several seconds to register.
I have tried running Firefox in failsafe-mode which immediately made the problem go away. However, whenever I run it in regular mode the problem will be back even if I disable every single addon and plugin. I have also tried reinstalling both firefox as well as my addons and flash player, the issue stays.
For what it's worth, any other browser I have installed does not experience the problem at all (despite having the same few addons installed - I only have 3 of them).
Does anyone have a clue what the issue might be? Does the failsafe-mode inactivate anything besides the addons and plugins listed in the addon-section?
    Thanks in advance

  • Incredibly Slow broadband Speed

Hi, I'm servering from a Incredibly Slow broadband Speed and can't nail the reason why.
The broadband for my street was down for a whole weekend although box said connection was ok - helpline was no help - just said try again tomorrow. Now we have internet but the speed is very very slow - speed test results are :
    Download = 53 kps
    acceptable range = 100-250 kps
    DSL Connection Rate 486 Kps (Down-Stream), 712 kps(Up-Stream)
IP Profile for line = 135 kps
    Upload = 541 Kps
    Addition Hub Info:
    Noise Margin (Down/Up) = 8.5 dB / 6.7 dB
    Line Attenuation (Down/Up) = 63.8 dB / 35.8 dB
    Output power (Down/Up) = 1.3 dBm / 1.1dBm
Prior to loss of service, my speeds although weren't great were about 1.2 Mps
I've tried all the suggestions like changing channels, filters etc and nothings change in my house since the degrading of service.
    Can someone please help !
    Best regards

I don't know if this will help, but I do notice that your output power is only 1.3dBm / 1.1dBm.  can I ask you to look on the back of your home Hub and check to see if it is a Type A or Type B, this will be on the label in the bottom right corner.  If it is a type B Hub then ring and ask for a Type A Hub as I have found that I get a better output power reading of around 16.0dBm.  When I was sent out a relacement Hub when mine went wrong they sent out a Type B and my speed went very slow, so I put the original Type A  Hub back on to see if it made a differance and my speed increased and my IP Profile went up.  So if this is the case, ring up tech support and don't ask tell them that you wont a Type A replacement Hub.  All the best in your efforts and don't forget that the more you insist the more you can achieve.

  • Incredibly slow speeds

    Hello
For the second day running I'm experiencing incredibly slow speeds on my option 3 broadband package.
My Homehub says my downstream is connected at 283kbps, and my upstream at 440kbps. Normally my downstream is 8000kpbs or so
I spent a very very long time on the phone to BT yesterday, who told me a variety of different things, but nothing that resolved it.
Can one of the mods have a look for me please?? I don't know how it'll ever get fixed otherwise!!

It's been crawling along since yesterday morning...
I'm running off the North Paddington exchange
BT Speedtester says: Your configured download throughput speed for this service is 250 k
Download speedachieved during the test was - 117 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 50-250 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :282 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 440 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 250 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 7.69:24.79:67.52 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
    There's something massively wrong here...
I'm pretty good with figuring out computer things. Of course, I've done all the usual, restarting the hub, swapping the microfilter etc.
Initially I thought I may have been capped, but the helpdesk told me this wasn't the case. My download rate is exactly 28kb/s, not a kilobyte over or under which would indicate some form of limiter applied...
I really need the net functioning correctly today and tomorrow, as I'm working from home... obviously BT's timing is perfect
Hopefully someone from BT will see this and take a look for me?
    Best,

how can I improve the speed of my Macbook?  It's become incredibly slow...

    Hi,
Troubleshooting Steps are... Restart...  Reset...  Restore from Backup...  Restore as New...
Try a Reset of the Phone... You will Not Lose Any Data...
    Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
    Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...
    Turn the Phone On...

  • Sky Anytime+ incredibly slow!

    Hi
I transferred from Sky broadband to BTInfinity a few months ago.  This past 6 weeks we've noticed Sky Anytime+ programmes take ages to download.  For example last Sunday a film took 3+ hours.  I've contacted Sky and they say becasue my broadband isn't with them they won't investigate....great! So Any ideas.  The sky box is wired directly into the router, getting at least 15mb download.  Are there any additional settings on the router I need to implement?
    Thanks
    Lynn

The core would not matter in this case. Its their content servers for the anytime+ service which cant handle all the demand.
Anytime+ has been incredibly slow for me but the speeds for content to download has gotten faster and items are ready to watch within 10 seconds now.

  • Early 2011 MacBook Pro incredibly slow after installing Mavericks

I'm really hoping someone can help me out. As per the subject line, I installed Mavericks on day one (and learned my lesson!).
Since installing Mavericks my MacBook Pro runs incredibly slow. If I open the Mail App and Safari - it almost grinds to a halt. I have the "Memory Clean" App which I now have to run constantly (it appears to help a little) and I try to only launch one app at a time where possible, but it's not really pratical.
As an aside, my MacBook ran really well with Mountain Lion, so there's little doubt to my mind that Mavericks is the culprit.
I'd be eternally grateful for any help & advice :-)

    CleanMyMac is probably your problem.
    CleanMyMac is crapware.
Crapware is anything that purports to "optimize",  "clean", "accelerate", "monitor", or "protect" your Mac. These apps are unnecessary, poorly written, overpriced (if they were free, they'd still be overpriced), and harmful. The people who sell this stuff know this, but they keep selling it because people keep buying it. They can damage your OS and be difficult to uninstall.
I would try to uninstall it, but if that fails, you may have to erase your HD and do a clean install.

  • How to find out what is slowing down your wireless speed

The first thing you need to do is when setting up your wireless internet is do it right from the beginning. For starters unplug and remove the batteries from all the cordless phones. If you have a wireless door bell or a repeater shut it off and unplug it.. Anything that is wireless in your house needs to be turned off. This also includes cell phones, Ipad's and Ipod's.This thing of telling the homeowner that the mircowave is causing problem is hog wash. But don't have it running while you are setting this up. In other words nothing in your house should be running including the AC and heat. Anything that is pulling hi amperage should be shut down during the set up. Now unplug all cables on the router except for your computer cable and power supply to the router. Hold the reset button in long enough to clear all settings. Now you are ready to set this up right. Sign into your router and go to My Network, if it is showing something other that your main frame computer you still have something on that the router is picking up. Find it and turn if off and reset the router again. Once everything is cleaned and the only this showing up is the computer you are ready. Now go to Speed Net or what ever you check your speed with and write down your average speed. Do three or four speed test to get the average reading. BTW, clear all cookies before you check your speed. Now go back into your router settings and rename you computer to what ever so you won't get that IP address confused with the rest of your hook up. Next take only one of your wireless devices and turn it on. Once the router picks it up rename it and put the security code on for that device to connect to the wireless device. It should also show it as being a wireless device. Also if all your devices can except performance mode go for it because the speeds will always be faster. Also start selecting one channel at a time to find the one that has the fastest speed. Try doing this close to the router, like in the same room. If you are using the performance mode your upload and download should be close to your wired connection. Now go to different parts of the house. You will see some drops but that is normal. Don't do this test on a PS3 or a WII because those speeds will always be slow no matter what you do. All Apple products won't work with Speed Net. Once you get connected to the internet it is always better to go back into your router and write down the assigned IP address and the IP address to the router sign in and manually put them in to each device. Always remember the higher security setting you can set you the faster the speed will be. Do each device as said in the above way. Something else you also might want to do is after you have set up each wireless device go back into your router setting under Wireless settings and disable SSID Broadcast. Only thing this will do is make it to where nobody can see your wireless connection. That way when someone wants to hack your router they won't be able to see it...ya can't hack what ya can't see....lol. Once you get all said wireless devices set up and connected then go back and start turning on phones...ect..ect. If you are truly getting interference you will be able to change the channel on either that device or change the channel on the router for that device. Most of the devices in this day and time should be able to except the 802.11n or the next letter down. The bad thing about the newest Verizon router is the security is still outdated for the PS3. Part two of this is Sony is still using a crap-o-la wireless internet receiver, as a result I don't care what cha do unless you hard wire it in and that still only helps some. Also this thing of putting your router on the window seal or up near the ceiling is also poo poo. If this was a true case why not just hook up a High Def antenna in the room...lol Also this thing of stating don't put the router near a wall is also doo doo. Their would have to be a load of copper wire in that wall to prevent a signal from going through it. If you think about it all wall electrical outlets are wired low to the floor. They take one room and wire them all together. They don't wire it up and down the walls. So most rooms have the wiring a foot from the floor. The most wire you will find in a house at one location is at the circuit breaker box and the box should be on a outside wall in the garage. In older homes like the 40's and 50's some are in the kitchen or a bedroom closet. On the older homes try and steer clear of those locations. Now if you are getting interference from something in your home this will be a easy way to find it. One thing Verizon needs to stop telling it's customer and that is if you get a faster speed which is more money it will correct your wireless problem...hog wash Once you spend your hard earned money and sign the contract, they forget to tell you they only guarantee that speed if it is hard wired...lol for some reason they always forget that part.

I forgot to suggest one more thing. On your computer go to start/ run/ type in MSCONFIG and go all the way to the right and click start up and then at the bottom select disable all and then reboot. Windows will only load what it need to operate. After that go back into MSCONFIG and go back to the start up and put a check into what ever security program you are using and reboot. Everything will still work fine. The only thing you are doing here is not running all the programs each time you turn your computer on.What this will do if you do this is it will start programs faster and it also is less wear and tear on your pooter. If you want to see what I am talking about go here>> http://www.blackviper.com/ and he will explain and show in full detail what I am talking about as far as being robbed by unnecessary programs running in the back ground. He will also explain the correct way of disabling things that you will never use. MS is set up for remote operation. Like calling your pooter from a phone which I am pretty sure most don't use that feature. If you want to see what happens when you go to any site while surfing download the free copy of CrapCleaner, run it and let it remove all the internet clutter and cookies, then go to one site and close IE down and rerun CrapCleaner again. You will then see what is really slowing down your internet speed. If you are using Windows 7 or 8 you need to go to Control Panel/ Taskbar and Start Menu/ then select Start menu again/ Customize/ and scroll down to Run Command and check it. Now you will be able to see the run command. I don't know why MS removed that feature.

  • Incredibly Slow with Spinning Ball

In the last week my MacBook Pro has become incredibly slow. I have contacted Apple Support, done a safe start, verified the disk with no issues. Even typing into this box is met with constant pauses and freezes.
Below is a check I did through EtreCheck. Can anyone tell me what the issue may be. This makes no sense to me.

  • Slow large file transfer speed with LaCie 1T firewire 800 drives

I am transferring two large files (201gb and 95gb) from one LaCie 1T firewire external drives to another one (using separate connections to a PCI Express firewire 800 card in my Quad G5. The transfer time is incredibly slow – over for hours for the 201gb file and over 2 hours for the 95gb file.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is so slow or what I might try to speed up the transfer rates?
    Thank you.
