E4200 router - can't see 5ghz

I have e4200 router set up with different SSIDs for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.  My laptop (Lenovo x220 with Intel 6205 wireless adapter) can't see the 5ghz network.  I've tried changing the channel for the 5ghz network and it didn't fix the problem.
How do I fix?

Thanks.  That program was useful.  I ran that program and saw only 24xxx kHz frequencies.
So I played around with some different settings and finally figured out how to fix.  If anyone else has this problem, here's how I fixed it (using Windows 7):
1.  Go to Control Panel -- Network and Internet -- Network and Sharing Center
2.  Click on Change adapter settings on the left side
3.  Right click on the wireless adapter and click Properties
4.  Click the Configure button that is right under the wireless adapter
5.  Click the Advanced tab
6.  Select the Wireless setting; mine was set to 802.11b/g; change it to 802.11a/b/g
That fixed the problem and I could see 5ghz networks.  For some reason, the adapter doesn't see 5ghz 802.11n networks unless it's looking for 802.11a networks - which is not intuitive.  (It also works if the Wireless setting is just 802.11a, but then it doesn't see 2.4ghz networks.)
So bottom line is that the default settings in the Lenovo system were not set up to see 5ghz - which is not cool.

  • Can not see 5GHz band on my network

My HP 200 Quad all in one PC can not see the 5GHz band on my network. It works fine on the 2.4GHz band and I have another PC on the network that is able to see the 5GHz band. My wireless card is a Ralink and according to its properties it should operate on the 5GHz band on channels36-161. HP Tech support wants to charge me to fix this and the unit is 3 weeks old and was like this right out of the box, not to mention my 2 year warrnty. Can anyone help?

When I check the wireless device properties it list the 5 GHz band to operate through channels 36-161 and also states the device is working
properly. The last I checked my router it was broadcasting on channel 36, so everything seems to be fine but I can not receive the signal.
Hello FWV, Sorry for the confusion. I was under the impression that you could not connect at 5 ghz. Now you suggest you cannot connect at all.
Can you advise if the Ralink can connect to the wireless router at the 2.4 ghz frequency, or not connect at all?
Can you advise if you can see the router on the network at the 2.4 ghz.?
Many times, you may need to reboot the router to allow it to recognize new connections.
Just not sure of what is going on. Maybe some other Member can be of more help.

  • Laptop can't see 5GHz wifi connection

Hello All, I need some help. Googling has not been able to let me solve this alone, so I am coming here to find an expert. My laptop cannot now connect to wifi. It used to be able to and everything was fine, then the internet company updated the wifi we receive to a 5GHz connection and the laptop cannot even detect it. It can see the modem/router and it can let me type in the password but it can't connect now, I think it is because it is only the old connection it sees and this may now be deactivated by the internet company, but I am not sure. A bit of Googling tells me that it may be something to do with a G or N connection (think this is an N one) and I went to the Acer website, found another WLAN driver, uninstalled the old Broadcom one, installed the new Atheros one and it still won't connect. Does anyone have a fix to this? If my laptop, which is not even a year old, cannot connect to any wifi, it's basically useless as I can't use an ethernet cable when I go on holiday. I do not know how to find out, exactly, what wifi adapter is in the laptop. The laptop is an Acer Aspire ES1-512-C6XH running Windows 8.1. Like I say, I only got this laptop around Christmas 2014 and up until last week, everything was fine. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

from what info you provided I would first uninstall the atheros drivers and put the broadcom drivers back in as they are two different chips, if the original driver was broadcom then use that driver only, next, in a lot of laptops the wireless chips are designed to work on the 2.4 ghz frequency only regardless that it reads "N" connection, the 5ghz band is an "A" connection and your wirless chip is likely a "B,G,N" so it will not see the 5ghz band, if you want to use the 5ghz band you would need a different wireless connection ie an usb adapter with an "AC" connection of which would then see the 5 ghz band.B,G,N 2.4 ghz connection is very common to be used as it will connect to pretty much any router connection without having any hassle but speed wise it is slower with a connection range of 72 mbs to 150 mbs but still very useable, an "AC" connection will connect around 400 mbs on the 5 ghz band.Hope this helps you understand.

  • Wireless Router can't see other computers on network

I have a home network set up as follows:
Cable modem connected to a VOIP modem then it is connected to a 8 port switch.
I have 2 computers and a Linksys wireless router connected to the switch.
The 2 computers can see each other on the network.
When I connect to the wireless router I can access the internet but cannot see the other two computers on the network.
When I connect to the switch via a wire I can see the network.
Is the wireless router blocking my access to the network?
What can I do to be able to see the network through the wireless router?
    Thanks,

  • Router can't see NAS200--A SOLUTION

THE PROBLEM WAS: I moved to a new home office and put together a new network with a new router.  When I plugged in the NAS200, the router couldn't find it.  I tested the cable connection (by plugging a laptop into it) and knew that was OK.
I contacted Linksys tech support who had me do basic things like reset the NAS and turn it on/off.  I asked if there were any router settings that might impact this and was told it wouldn't make any difference.  The upshot, at the end of a Tier 2 technician phone call (which at least I wasn't charged for) was "The unit must be defective; since we can't reach it thru the network, then there's nothing you can do except pull the drives out and see if you can plug them into a PC to get the files from them."
UGH.  I thought a bit and decided to try something.  I knew what the IP address of the NAS was on my old network, and it was conceivable to me that I might have made that IP static so it would never conflict with other devices that might be connected/disconnected over time.  I went into the router IP settings and assigned that old address to the NAS200 using its MAC address.  THAT WORKED and I am up and running.
SO if you have a problem like this, DO check your router settings!  And if you set a static IP on your NAS (or any device for that matter) I recommend putting a label on it with that address to remind you.  I have that label on my NAS, and it obviously saved the day.
ZERO POINTS go to LInksys support on this one.  Sorry folks; a couple of questions to me would have brought up this possible solution.  I'm very glad I don't have to trash this little box.
WHILE I'M AT IT:  I'm amazed that Linksys does not have the original Setup Wizard available for download.  I understand them not updating it, but why delete it?  There are a bunch of Forum postings from people who lost their install CD; this is really dumb and the worst of what Planned Obsolescence can be.

Jac:  thanks for writing back.  The tech did have me hold the RESET button until the two beeps.  Although the manual says that will force it into DHCP, it does not appear to do so and didn't work in this case.
Her only other suggestion for getting the files off the drive was to remove the hard drives from the NAS and use some other adapter to plug them into the PC.  UGH.

  • Router Can't see My Website Anymore since changing its DNS

Neither my old Panther G5 nor my new Macbook running Leopard can see my website anymore since I changed its DNS settings (after server failure we had to move).
I use a Belkin 4-port router FSD5231-4, which sees all other websites on the web now, but not mine. Everyone else in the world, except me, can see http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org.
when mac is plugged straight into the cable modem it sees the website fine. Only when the router is in the mix, does the site go awol.
Belkin said I had to download an .exe file in order to reset the MTU settings. After I insisted there must be a way without using .exe, he said to go into Mac settings to reset MTU to 1400 (the ideal range is 1400-1500). When Apple support showed me how to get in to change the setting of MTU, we found it was already set to 1500, and didn't change the outcome.
Good News Network is still awol.
I looked on Belkin for firmware updates but my model number (above) returns "No documents found". I think updating would be a great idea.
Also, I tried resetting w the little hole in the back, but nothing changed (the paper clip wasn't able to push in the back of the hole at all, it seemed).

You shouldn't need to change the MTU on your router, nor should you need to factory reset it; a simple power cycle of it should be all you need if it's got your old DNS information cached.
I suspect your Mac may have the address cached as well.
Try shutting down your Mac, power cycling the router, then booting the Mac and see if that works.

  • Can't see other computers using Westell Versalink 327

The computers wired to the router can't see the computers connected via WiFi and vice-versa.  It is possible to mount a shared folder as a drive in either direction, but the shares don't show up in Windows Explorer.  I think this is because the router separates the wifi and wired connections somehow.  Anyone figure out how to get around this?

I was already able to see shared folders by mounting them as drives.  I wasn't able to see shared folders in Windows Explorer.  But I have figured out how, finally.  I found I had to log in from the wi-fi connected machines to the ethernet-connected machine.  So it doesn't seem that the problem was some kind of separation of the two kinds of connections by the router.

  • E4200 Can't see my network shares after upgrade

I can't see my network shares after upgrade altough everything works fine , the network scanner shows all the atatched devices but in Eplorer when I click Network there is nothing shown on two computers running Win7 64.
I did downgraded the firmware back to .01 but still no network .
    Any help ?

After upgrading the firmware did you reset the E4200? After successful firmware upgrade you need to reset the router. It is recommended to reset the router once. Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After reset, reconfigure the router and then check the connectivity status…

  • New Ipod Touch 5g can't access Internet in home network (using Linksys E4200 router). But, OK with other Wifi.

Just bought new Ipod Touch 5g. I found out it can't access Internet in home network. not really cannot access, but very slow to open any web page, App Store failed to access, etc. But, OK with other Wifi (office & starbucks). Others existing iOS devices (Iphone4 & Ipad2) have no problem like this. I'm using Linksys E4200 router at home. anyone has any idea why?

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Powerbook G4 Can't "See" Wireless Signal from Ubee Modem/Router

I was given a G4 Powerbook while out of town and it found the wireless signal in an apartment complex and a major airport just fine. But upon returning home it can't "see" the signal from my (Time Warner, Road Runner Extreme) Ubee modem/router. My Mac Mini's Airport sees the Ubee wireless signal fine, but the older Powerbook G4 can't. (The Airport signal in the menu bar has "bars" but they are grayed out.
Can an older G4 connect with the newer Ubee modem/router? Are there security settings that will allow this?
    Tx,
    WK

CRMDVM -- Thanks for the helpful info -- you are probably right on both counts:
The apartments where I picked up a signal is in an "old folks" apt. complex, meaning the router I was picking up was probably old -- compatible with the G4 lineage. And the Atlanta airport probably has a wireless system to allow the vast number of old and new computers that people carry to connect.
My Mac Mini connects via WPA2 Personal security code, and I set the G4 to the same security (in the Network preference pane) but still nothing. The Airport wireless icon in the menu bar is still grayed out -- it isn't the "blank" icon as when Airport is turned off. It has the wireless wave lines in the icon, but just grayed out.
Maybe the G4 is just too old to "see" the newer wireless signal from the new modem/router.
Thanks again for your help -- you definitely provided more than I knew. (btw, I'm just above you in Union County in Stallings).

  • I have a dvr and I want to monitor from my phone.  this worked when I had a Belkin router that let me open ports.  I use "canyouseeme" and it can't see 80, 9000 or 1025. How do I make them available?

I have a Lorex DVR that I want to monitor from my IPhone and IPad.  I used to be able to do this when I had a Belkin router (easy to open ports) but I bought the AirPort Extreme router and no longer have that capability.  When I use "canyouseeme" they can NOT see 80, 9000 or 1025.  Lorex says I need them all available in order to access.  Help!  And all the help I see refers to a earlier version of the AirPort Utility so I cant use those to look at anything, I cant find the same screens, I have version 6.1 (610.31).  I also don't really understand how ports work, so I need a pretty basic explanation.

Well...I went to the modem (Westell, WireSpeed), found the NAT settings, once again, I'm WAY over my head, I am assuming this is a TCP connection (as opposed to a UDP) and per Lorex my mobile devices will use port 1025.  So I gave it a "global port range" of 1-10 and I indicated that the "base host port" was 80, 1025, & 9000 (ports 1,2,3).  When I selected the 'enable' it asked for a "host devise" my choices are my IPhone, IMac and the IP address for the dvr, so I choose the dvr.  I still cannot connect and canyouseeme still can NOT find these open ports.  This is taking up my whole day! I don't know how people figure this stuff out.

  • TC - 802.11N can's see the TC when it is configured to 5GHz 'n only'

    G'Day
I am trying to set up my TC to use the 5GHz bandwidth "n only", when I do this I can't see the TC from either my MB Air or Mac Pro (both are n capable).
Connecting on the 2.4GHz freq is not a problem and the connection shows as being around 120M ie it appears to be connecting at the higher 'n' speed.
    Any thoughts
    thanks

I had the same problem with my Imac. No connection at 5 GHz but my Macbook Pro could connect no problem. The 5ghz network name would flash for a second in the airport menu then disappear. Never could connect. Finally gave up and changed to 2.4 and everything connects ok.

  • It appears since my Windows PC McAfee AV subscription expired my PC's iTunes doesn't see my two Apple TV2's.  My computer has internet connection thru router and my ATV has internet connection thru same router.  My iPad can see the ATV but it can't see iT

My Windows PC iTunes doesn't see my two Apple TV2's (in the speaker button in lower right of iTunes), I believe this problem began when my PC's McAfee AV subscription expired.  My computer has internet connection thru router and my ATVs have internet connection thru same router so it's not a networking issue.  My iPad can see the ATVs but it can't see iTunes so the problem appears to be PC/iTunes related.  I turned the PC's firewall off but no joy.  I uninstalled the expired McAfee and still no joy.  Reboot = no joy.  Glass of scotch = no joy.  Need help!!

Wanted to add that I turned on Home Sharing w/the same account in iTunes and ATVs.  And I've successfully streamed music/photos to my ATVs for over a year.

  • My AirPort Extreme can not see my SMC router

I have a new MacBook Pro. It can see other routers (in my neighborhood) and connect to the internet by ethernet cable into my SMC router but it can not see the SMC router wirlessly. I have no security on my router right now. Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem: SMC Barricade G 2408WBRP-G-CA with v2.08 firmware. Because there's lots of talk of problems with WEP, turned that off, but no luck, the built-in airport card of the powerbook won't connect to the router.
I have successfully connected to a Cisco access point at work with 128-bit WEP with no problem at all, so I'm certain the hardware in the machine is functioning... just not with this access point.
This is a brand new 17" Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro that I just received... all available software updates applied.
