theE4500 Server is blocked regularly.
Once the blocking produces, the E4500 server does not answers neither the "ping", or "telnet", rlogin, ...
impossibile to open a operator session from the console of E4500 (locally), the screen is black.
Even the monitor does not answer ("STOP+A"). And to go out of this situation I am obliged to stop and start again the server by power off and power
on.
It is a material or software fault?

Have you ever changed the resolv.conf file on the server?
I've had a similar problem and I traced it down to the nscd ( name server caching daemon ) process which seems to get stuck after I made a resolver change. I think nscd looses or can't attach to a door.
There are no outward indications of this happening, unless you enable savecore on the server and
analyse the crashdump after a restart.
In the first instance, I would consider disabling the nscd process;
/etc/init.d/nscd stop
and then changing the link in /etc/rc2.d to disable startup on reboot of the host. It's then a case of
waiting to see if the server stalls again. It's debatable whether stopping nscd is going to have a performance hit on your machine, I've not noticed any degradation.

Can a SMB (server message block) be used as our file share in clustered OSB/SOA instance instead of a NAS?

We like to know if a SMB (server message block) will be adequate as our file share as opposed to a NAS. The SMB will be used for hosting files (e.g.: plan.xml, jms persistent stores, adapter control files, property files, binary files,...) that our services (OSB, SOA, Java) will be accessing in a cluster.
Also, is this a recommended approach that Oracle certifies?

As far as I know and as suggested by Mahdi, there is no such Group Policy settings which can help us to achieve this.
However, as also suggested by Mahdi, we can ask for help in the following scripting forum to see whether some scripts can help achieving this.

Crystal add on works for admin user on server but not regular user

Hi
The crystal add on has been installed and working for months. Another colleague was working with it, not sure what happened but it stopped working. I was able to re-register and get it working on a user's workstation using fat client. It is installed on the server. Some users user remote desktop to connect to the server.
If I login to the server as an admin user - i login to SAP as manager and can use the add on. Works fine.
If I login to the server as a regular user, login as manager into SAP, I get an installation error with the Crystal add on. Since it is already installed and working - why when i login to the same server as a different windows login but SAME manager SAP user - why would it not work?
I'm using crystal reports full version on the server because that is where I edit the reports.
The workstations have the runtime installed.

Which I don't understand at all b/c if I login on the same server as a different windows login
with admin rights it works fine.
What log file are you speaking of? I'm new to add on installs.
I don't even install SAP I work with crystal reports but got stuck dealing with this add on.

ITunes tells me there is an update (5.1) but it never gets any further than trying to connect to the iPad server. I've tried updating directly from my iPad and it too times out saying it cannot connect to any server. My regular Apple updates work fine.

I haven't updated yet. Apple's download servers have been too busy. Did you know you can update via wifi instead of connection to your computer?

Can't connect to server using a regular app

Tried to open a regular news app and does not let me connect. cant't connect to server, retry. I deleted it and added it again and still have the samek problem. My husband has an ipad 3 and not having the same problem, why? please help!

Mac mini server 2011 with regular lion - lion freezes all the time!

I have installed a regular OSX lion 10.7.3 on my brand new mac mini server 2011.
I called support today they told me it would not be possible but with a bootable USB im just able to install a regular OSX lion since I dont like the server features and bought the machine for development ( coding ).
When doing an internet recovery OSX lion server will be installed. This is higly unwanted but I guess the installer checks the hardware and installs the server version since that would be the "correct" version.
Now it keeps locking up everytime, even after a time machine backup I did and hoped that clean install would have fix this,
problem still persist.
When it lockups and I reboot on login screen I can:
only move the mouse up and down
when I type 1 keystroke on keyboard the password field is filled with multiple charachters dotted out because of the password field

Is running a reguler lion ( not server version ) on a mac mini 2011 really not supported causing my issues? It feels like unlogic since the regular lion installer installed just fine, it should have given a warning that its not possible to install on my mac mini server therefore I see this as a "ok" it can be installed without problems?
Anyone has regular osx lion on mac mini server without any problems?
Is there anything I can do to determine the cause of the freezes? The console does not mention anything
This is higly frustrated, I dont dare to fully spend some hours to restore the system to a workable state for me ( install apps, coding enviroment, xcode etc) since it feels unstable and i dont want to spend time and have to do everything over again :S

1. Go to System Preferences.
2. Select Engery Saver
3. Slide the setting for Computer sleep to never.
4. Slide the setting for Display sleep to never (though I believe the display should be able to sleep without much issue.
5. Make sure the following are not selected:
a. Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible.
b. Allow power button to put the computer to sleep.
6. Make sure the following are selected:
a. Wake for network access
b. Start up automatically after a power failure
c. Restart automatically if the computer freezes.

MacMini server used as regular computer ?

I love the specs on the new MacMini server, and want to buy one. I see it comes with server software, and I know absolutely nothing about the Lion server software. I want to use this MacMini as a regular computer - I want to use it's first hard drive for Mac OSX, and the second hard drive to put Windows 7 on (running on bootcamp, directed from the first hard drive). However I know nothing of Lion server software. Can I disable the server part of Lion server, and use it as a regular computer, or do I have to wipe the server software off and put regular Lion or snow leopard OSX on it ? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

When you first start up the Mini Server, simply do not
enable any of the server services. And if you do by
accident do that, you can simply open the Server App
and disable it from there.
BTW, it does make a pretty nice workstation. Using one
myself with a Thunderbolt display. Also, if you decide to
get one, upgrade it to 8 gig right away. I put the following

Lion server configuration blocked...

Hello ! My lion server configuration is blocked...my computer seems not to work ....
I can not stop the configuration because the software tells me that he is still configuring....
I'm afraid that if i force closing the configuration application the installation would be corrupted....

OK, I'm considering one other configuration for our workgroup server:
MacMini Server running Mountain Lion Server with two 750GB internal drives. These will both be data drives and set up as RAID mirror.
For the system drive I would boot from a small (64GB or 128GB) external Thunderbolt drive. It would act as a dedicated OS drive.
Other than a little bit more storage room, would that give me any advantage over having both my OS and Data on the internal RAID? I've heard that having your OS isolated can be beneficial for some reason.
(The RAID and the OS volume would be backed up nightly with weekly rotational offsite backup as well).
I think I've decided against SSD drives for the reason that woodmeister50 pointed out above (the network being more of a bottleneck than the drives). However, if there is some advantage to the external OS drive being SSD, Elgato has a nice thunderbolt solution for reasonable money.

IMac scanning port on server & getting blocked

Please help me, I got my iMac with OS X Yosemite few days a go and now am getting blocked from my Web Hosting Server and they told me my Machine is Scanning for open ports on the server. So am getting blocked from accessing my website and FTP all together and it happens like 3-5 times a day which is no nice.
I tried searching for the fix but am not able to get through yet so if you guys can help me figure out how.. would be great ..

Outgoing mail server appears blocked by mobile network

I have already contacted Roadrunner to find out why the host name in the Outgoing Mail Server--mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com will not work. They state that it should read mobile-server.roadrunner.com. When I typed that in, it reverted back to the original phrase, and they said to get in contact with the mobile network. There must be a block in it. We tried a different port, however, that did not work either. Has anyone had this problem? I am receiving emails from roadrunner without incident.

Try deleting the account and selecting manual set up. Also you can also try using an email app from the play store like k9 mail.

RV016: PPTP Server and "Block MAC address"

So if the PPTP server is enabled, and "Block MAC address not on the list" is enabled under the DHCP settings, will the PPTP client get an IP address?
Similarly, if the PPTP server is enabled and the range of IP addresses configured on the PPTP server screen is outside the IP range of the router due to a subnet mask (like 255.255.225.248 for example), will the IP still be assigned to the PPTP client? If assigned, will that IP have any connectivity to the LAN?

So here's how PPTP works with these two features:
1. The PPTP IP range is a different range than the DHCP range. You get an error message if your PPTP IP range overlaps with the DHCP one.
I didn't test the 'Block MAC' function because since the IP isn't coming from the DHCP pool, I highly doubt any MAC blocking will work.
2. Since your PPTP IP address range is outside of the DHCP range, this point is completely taken off the table. However, if you choose an IP range that's outside of the subnet, you'll get an error message when saving. I also learned that if you set the PPTP IP to just a single number and connect, the router will automatically reject any additional connections since no IPs are available.

Windows server firewall blocking active directory authentication?

I'm having problems with authenticating macs on our windows 2003 server domain. When windows firewall is activated, mac clients(10.4) can no longer login. I've tried opening a number of ports e.g.TCP/UDP 53. UDP 464. but no luck. Any ideas which ports are necessary for the AD plugin to work properly?

Why are you enabling Windows firewall on a domain controller?
My recommendation is to turn it off and protect your entire site with a hardware firewall. The ports you need to open up are the very ones you should be blocking from the world to prevent attacks.

Can I use a Server as a "regular" Mac?

I am thinking about getting Mountain Lion Server.
I have two Macs running Mountain Lion and am thinking of installing Server onto one of them. The price is certainly right, my main concern is whether or not I'll be able to use the Server machine as a "regular" Mac. For example, can I read my mail, write documents in Word and Pages, develop iOS apps in XCode, run Windows under Parallels and surf the web?
If this is so, are there any limitations?

Regular usage and the added functionality of Mac OS X Server may interfere with each other; in particular, if something causes the server to lock up, the entire network may be disrupted.

Mavericks Server Firewall Blocking e-mail

I've got mavericks server installed. DNS and mail are configured on the server, however I can't receive mail because the firewall is blocking it. How can I open port 25 on the firewall so I can receive mail? I can send mail with no problem, but I can't receive mail.

Actually I solved the issue. I thought the firewall was blocking SMTP port 25 because I used the network tool to scan the system and it kept showing the port was closed. Then I remotely logged into the computer and went to GRC.com and ran Shields Up. Shields Up showed that the port was open. After that I started going through the configurations again to see what might be the issue. I got to DNS I noticed the MX record didn't look correct. So from my computer I ran an nslookup -type=mx on the domain name that was currently in the DNS. It didn't resolve. So I updated the MX record in the DNS with the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) to see if I could at least get that to resolve. When I did that, everything started working. I left it at that and called it a day.
