E5 Email set-up - problems

I am trying to set up personal email i.e. hotmail on my nokia e5. I follow the set up wizard through the process and it displays the hotmail screen and starts connecting, however, after a few seconds it switches back to the messaging screen and tells me that "no mailboxes are defined" and asks me to add one. If I go through the same process I agaion I get the same message - Does anyone have any ideas?

Please follow the below method to resolve your issue for Nokia E-5 and E-71:
On inital stage please type dont type correct yahoo, gmail, hotmail or other email ID "
for example if ur id is ****@hotmail.com that type ****@abc.com insted of hotmail. and correct it on second stage.
It appears that Microsoft have made slight adjustments to their hotmail protocol settings so what follows are the correct settings to make it work.
There are two very annoying processes on the E71 when you try to enter a hotmail address, the first being the new Nokia Messaging interface and the second being that the phone thinks it cannot do hotmail on its own via POP3 so it simply puts a link in the web browser bookmarks...none of which are what I wanted. I am sure I can remember http://www.hotmail.com/
The first thing you will notice if you try the default email entry for a hotmail address e.g. *****@hotmail.com is that the prompt will want to connect to the network or internet. This is because it wants to use the latest version of Nokia Messaging. If you are happy with this new mail interface (I prefer the older manual email setup) from Nokia then simply enter your email address and password and bobs your auntie.
But if you want to get around the Nokia Messaging then here is what to do:
Go to Mail on your phone  - Options - Settings -  scroll down to email - Options - New Mailbox
Click - start and then NO to allow connections (that stops Nokia Messaging swinging into control)
Now enter your hotmail address except do not put @hotmail.com at the end.  Put @abc.com
e..g. if you email is *****@hotmail.com then enter mailto:*****@abc.com
This is very important because if fools the phone into thinking this is a non hotmail email account. If you do not use this by pass, then when the operating system detects you are doing a hotmail, it simply tell you that it has made you a nice new bookmark for the hotmail web page.
Now enter your password - press OK
Now enter your correct hotmail address - e.g. *****@hotmail.com - press OK (this time you can use the hotmail)
Now you will get an error message saying unable to define settings and it will allow you to manually set the POP3 or IMAP. Hotmail is of course POP3 so choose that.
OK - to the wizard intro
Mailbox POP3
Incoming mail server - pop3.live.com
Security - SSL/TLS - very important
Outgoing mail server  - smtp.live.com
Security  - Start TLS ----> THIS IS THE NEW SETTING THAT HAS RECENTLY CHANGED. BEFORE SSL/TLS WAS FINE BUT NOW THE MICROSOFT SERVER IS REJECTING SSL/TLS EMAIL WITH AN ERROR 530 MESSAGE/START WITH TLS.
SO PLEASE ENSURE THIS OUTMAIL SECURITY IS CORRECT - START TLS.
If you hotmail was working fine but suddenly it stopped working for outbound emails, then this is the setting you now need change.
Port Number - 25 (which is the default)
Some users have reported that it only works if you use Port 587 for outbound. This depends on whether or not not ISP is port blocking or not. I suggest you try 25 and if you still cannot send emails via hotmail, then change to 587.
The wizard should now complete the setup and in the list you should now see the new email but now it needs editing further so click options - settings (on the new email you have just added).
- Connection settings
- Incoming e-mail
- change the user name to the hotmail one i.e. change  *****@abc.com to *****@hotmail.com
leave password correct
leave incoming mail server pop3.live.com
access point - whatever is your default - I set to always ask
mailbox name - change this to *****@hotmail.com i.e. your hotmail address
leave mailbox type as pop3
leave security ports SSL/TLS - this is still okay for incoming mail
leave port - default
leave APOP as OFF
now back to OUTGOING MAIL SERVER
change my email address to your correct hotmail one i.e. ****@hotmail.com
change user name to your correct hotmail one i.e. *****@hotmail.com
leave password - it should be same as for incoming mail
leave outgoing mail server smtp.live.com
access point as you wish - mine is always ask
security ports should be StartTLS
Port - make sure it is 25 or 587 as above.
And there you go...it should work now.

  • 8520 Email Set up problems

    Hello,
I have an 8520 curve which I purchased and used in the UK with the Orange network before moving back to Canada and getting a package with Fido. Everything is working fine with it except I am unable to set up my email accounts. From the email set up in the set up wizard, as I choose next to open the set up application, a message appears telling me my device is having a problem connecting to the server. I don't know how to fix this. My BBM works fine, the browser works and the applications work so I am clearly connected to something. I am getting frustrated with not being able to access my emails from my phone. The only help I've been offered from Fido was to turn off the phone and remove the battery and turn it back on and try, which didn't work. If anyone knows how to solve this problem I would be much appreciative!!
    Cheers
    DHD

At exactly what point do you get to before you are presented with the error?
Disclaimer: I'm just a regular user like the rest of you. I have spent a lot of time learning the limitations of the Blackberries to know how to fix most problems. If I have suggested a fix, please give a kudo and mark as a solution!

  • Maps and email set up problem

i am new user in blackberry world, and my friends told me that i can access my email using blackberry so i buy one 8900 and it seems that it dosent have any options for email set up, and how can use the gps on this phone while itdosent have any map application.

BIS or BES is the internet access, BIS is with your carrier (the data plan i told you before), BES (normally with a company using any exchange server)
If you have the mails on your device obviously you have BIS, so make this please,
1- go to menu, options, advanced options, host routing table, press menu and register now.
2- go to menu, options, advanced options, gps, press menu and refresh gps.
3- Log in on your carrier web page, go to manage blackberry mail and resend the service books
4- Reset the device , with the phone turn on take out the battery for 30 seconds and install the battery again
Try again and let me know please
If I help you with any inquire, thank you for click kudos in my post.

  • C3-01 - Email Set-up Problem

Just purchase a Nokia C3-01 (unlocked) and when setting up the email account for Gmail, I get an endless loop stating:
    "Enhance service expired"
    - Ok -
"Service upgraded. Now you can fully experience your favorite providers."
    - Ok -
Back to the beginning of the email setup up screen and can't get the email setup.
Spoke with the Nokia Level 2 Tech and he said he hasn't come across this problem.
Does anyone else have this or a similar issue? Any fixes?
Like the phone but if the email issue doesn't get squared away - it's going back.

I got new handset from nokia care centre but it has old firmware ver 5.65. They advice me not to update to the latest firmware ver 6.0 as it has some bugs associated with NMS (nokia messaging service) as i did earlier and my email app stopped working after that. As per nokia technical executive, new firmware update for nokia c3-01 is coming soon. I am eagerly waiting for firmware update. I too recommend everyone not to update nokia c3-01 to firmware ver 6.0 especiall if you are using email app. Till then i will miss the features introduced in nokia c3-01 firmware ver 6.0 i.e wipe unlock  phone, left slide to open games and right slide to open collections.

  • @ Mac email set up problems

My Dad is having a problem setting up his Mobile Me email (@me.com/@mac.com) acct. on his iPad, however I have no problem setting up his account on my iPad/Macs. He had the same problem when setting up his email when he first set up his Mac. He called the "Geek Squad and it was fixed. The only thing I can think of is an issue with his router or ISP. His ISP is Time Warner Cable and he uses a wires router provided by Time Warner. Can anyone suggest a fix? Thank you!

We are 300 miles away, However I'm confident the set up is correct. I have walked him through the the set up process via phone/iChat several times and it verifies each time. The problem comes when mail attempts to get mail, it then gets stuck retrieving new mail.

error message - "service provider unknown. check email address."
The phone doesn't recognise sky.com as an email provider.  How do I get round this ?

If you have Nokia messaging, I believe that sets up imap, I only use the standard email client and am happy with pop email. You can also use Emoze, which is free !

  • Email set up problems 5230

    Hi,Nokia people.
I'm having trouble with setting up and accessing existing email addresses.
I had 4 ovi accounts, all set up on my nokia 5230.During a software update,I was told I needed to delete some info to continue with the process.I agreed to this, but 3 of my email accounts disappeared, leaving me (thankfully!) with my main address. My received text messages also vanished.
Since then,I've tried reinstating the missing addresses and also tried setting up new ones, but with no success.I've tried the ''wizard'' and tried manually, but I keep getting refused access, with the message ''Connection refused.Check user name and password'' or ''check email settings.''I've also had ''Unable to connect to IMAP4 server.''
I've checked and rechecked everything I can think of!I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
    Janus.

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?
You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as additional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.
So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.
    Good luck.

  • 3g v2.1 Yahoo email set up problem

I think I made a mistake - I bought a 3G, I had an old iphone it worked fine for my yahoo mail and gmail.
I installed v2.1 on the 3G. I can't set up any of my yahoo accounts on the 3G. I get the error message "Cannot get mail .. user name or password incorrect ...."
The gmail account is ok, Is there a trick to get the 3G to accept yahoo accounts?

    Hi,
Same issue as yours, with a Pre and Telefonica-Movistar as network provider, have been searching the web for hours and indeed seems it is not possible to set it up - unless you enable pop in your yahoo account.
Found this link that you might find helpful: http://picobit.wordpress.com/2009/04/10/yahoo-mail-free-pop-access/
    Good luck

  • Torch 9800 ''email set up icon not responding'' ... unable to edit or set up email accounts.

Torch 9800, Network provider, O2 UK.
Although my BlackBerry service with O2 is connected and working as normal, I am totally without email on my Torch 9800. I have owned the Torch 9800 since March. All has been well until last week when I changed the password on one of the 3 email accounts I had set up on my device.  This password change left one of the accounts unable to send or receive mail, and is also what lead me to discover that I could not enter email set up on my device or via my network providers website ( www.o2email.co.uk ) .
I have spent hours on the phone with O2 discussing this issue. The usual checks and procedures have been carried out, battery pulls, checking settings etc and the service books have been deleted and resent several times. These actions have not resolved the problem but instead led to the loss from my device of the other 2 email accounts which were working correctly but have now disappeared into thin air. Having tried all possible solutions with O2 I now come here looking for an answer.
When I visit my Network Providers BlackBerry mail service trying to create an account using my pin etc,  I am without fail getting a pop up box containing  the error message ''Your account is not accessible via HTML browser. Please use your devive to access BlackBerry Internet Service''  !?  The result is the same whether I log in from my device over 3G or Wireless, or from a PC (have tried several browsers) .
On my device, when I click on the Email Accounts icon from the setup menu nothing happens, no response at all. I have tried many times and there is just no way to set up or edit mail accounts. I am without mail on my device and growing increasingly short of patience.
I am now hoping somebody here can offer me some advice on how to resolve this issue. What use is a BlackBerry without email capabilities ? I see from researching email set up problems on the Torch 9800 that I am not alone here so if somebody at BlackBerry is listening ? If this is a Torch 9800 issue then I am sure you will be doing all you can to resolve this but in the meantime PLEASE help by offering a solution to the issues I have mentioned.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forums, bs342!
Well, since you searched the forums, you are undoubtedly aware that the problem you report is unfortunately a common one these days.  The good news is that RIM is definitely aware of and working on the problem.
First, let's try something on your computer.  What browser are you using?  Your problem there might just be as simple as clearing cache in your browser, then closing and reopening the browser to try the website again.
If that doesn't work, try this:
From your device's browser, go to mobile.blackberry.com. Select your country of choice, then go to Communicate>Email. Scroll down to Other Personal Email and click on Integrate Now, then Launch Email Setup. You should be able to integrate your e-mail accounts that way until RIM has fixed this issue.
Please let us know how it goes!

  • Emails setting Problems BB Curve 8310

    Hi,
I deleted all of my BB to start again fresh. But now I realize that I don't have the Email Setting Aplication so I am no longer able to configure my Email Accounts. How Can I get this application Back?
    Thanks!!!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your carrier for formal support.
