E50 & 616 Car Kit - Messages unavailable

I have an E50 paired with a 616 car kit using the Sim Access Profile and it works well.
All the contacts come over, the 'proper' recorded voice tags work and the signal is much improved by using the external aerial.
But .....
If I receive a message whilst connected, once I 'return' back to the phone, the Messages menus are nolonger available.
In order to send or receive messages, I must switch the phone off and back on again - then everything is as it should be.
I have the latest firmware in the E50 - any ideas ?
Regards
JonP

Hi
I ahve posted before on my extreme frustration with Nokia and the E50. As a replacement for a 6230i (I think) it was nothing but a relentless waste of my time as I tried to get the phone to do the most basic things-like show the phone book through the MMi system (Audi A6)
Eventually I went to local retailer (our business contract supplier also useless) and tried to pair up a W880 add a K810i. Both pair but do not display any info-though the 810i did show the signal strength indicator once.
Imagine my reluctance then when a 6300 did what was asked.
It has not been used in earnest yet but it does seem to work. My dreams of leaving nokia behind forever cruelly shattered. This conspiracy to change standards and leave long term customers in the lurch is wrong and bad business. Maybe when I change my car...

  • Connection lost between Nokia 616 Car Kit and a No...

I recently upgraded from a Nokia 9300 to an E71, but retained my Nokia 616 Car Kit. The Nokia website confirms that the E71 and 616 are compatible. My E71 has been paired with the 616 and configured as User 1 in remote SIM mode. The E71 Bluetooth settings have been set up so that it will connect automatically, without asking authorisation every time.
The E71 connects to the car kit without a problem, when the car is started, but often looses the connection during the trip. The 616 will then display “Connection Lost”, followed by the request “Reconnect to User 1?”. Strangely the black “User 1” phone icon is still displayed in the top right-hand corner of the 616 display. When I push the Navi Wheel it attempts to reconnect, but every time it comes back with the message “User 1 Not Found”, despite the fact that the phone has not been moved and is still less than 1m from the 616 controller. I can only reconnect after the vehicle had been switched off and restarted, i.e. when the 616 reboots.
Why does it frequently loose connection? A number of times I have noticed that it looses connection when I drive through an area with no or a very weak cell phone signal. I don’t think the cell phone signal strength should have an effect on the Bluetooth connection between phone and car kit.
Why won’t it re-connect? I can’t stop and switch off the car every time the connection is lost!
    Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, I have bought a car with this equipment and I have the same problem.
    I tried following:
    PAIRING:
    - first from the phone discover Bluetooth accessories - it will find the N616
    - enter the code to the phone
    - N616 ask for the same code as you enter to the phone - enter it
After this, the phone is paired, but not connected.
    CONNECTING:
    - then set up Bluetooth in the phone as visible
    - try connect (as user 1 or user 2) from N616 to the phone - you do not need to specify which phone has N616 to find - it will find your phone if it is visible (one step before)
    - if everything is OK, your phone is connected
    - you can access the menu, reset N616 to factory settings - but you need to make all steps again
This list works for me, any other steps not...

  • Can't connect or reset Nokia 616 car kit

I've just bought a used car which has Nokia 616 Car kit fitted. I can't connect as either user and I can't get to the infamous standby screen to get into the menu to do a reset of the settings. I've tried holding down the "hang up" button to get to the screen but nothing.
I really would like to get this piece of kit working as I will find it very useful.
    Any help is very appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ant

Not sure myself, but tyr disconnecting the power from the kit as I think that will reset it.
If not go into the bluetooth menu of the kit and reset it

  • N95 drops connectiohn to 616 car kit

    Hi
I've had a 616 car kit working reasonabley well with my N80 in sim access mode for almost a year - it occasionally lost connection and I had to restart the car kit to re-establish the connection. I've had an N95 for 2 days and both days within about 5 minutes of connecting the car kit shows lost connection with N95 and the phone has no signal indicator there is just the 3G at the bottom. It does show it is in remote sim mode. The only way to get it working is to switch off and restart the phone.
Anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
    Andy

Just to add weight to this thread I have the same problem, reliable operation with N80, but my N85 sometimes gets into a state where the phone is stuck halfway into remote SIM mode and the 616 cannot connect.
I have to turn off the car kit, turn off the phone, turn the phone back on, then finally reboot the car kit and it usually, but not always, comes abck up.
This often seems to happen when I have had the car unlocked, but the ignition not on, so the car kit may have tried to start but not fully, though this could be coincidence, would love to hear if anyone finds a solution for this!!

  • N8 with Nokia 616 car kit

Advice anyone? I'm pretty sold on getting an N8, due to the fact that Nokia seem to build a robust phone that gets better reception than most others when used as a phone. The only real issue at the moment seems to be that it will not be compatible with my nokia 616 car kit (possibly the best car kit ever made, and still being sold today). Does anybody know if there will be an upgrade to get around this issue or, any other solution? I gather that it's possible to get other makes of 'smartphones' with BT3 to connect and work with the 616... so why can't the N8, especially seeing as they both have NOKIA stamped on them??

I do not have N8, i have N97mini... but i have that carkit.
My findings are that with E71 and N97mini there was trouble involved. You can pair, you need a special software on E71 to get the contacts downloaded, and both do loose connection after a while.
Sometimes there is no connection at all, and then you have to switch off and on the bluetooth on the phone to get it working again.
E71 then was obviously fixed with new firmware. Bluetooth was stable after the update. On N97mini i am still waiting for some improvement.
Did also monitor car-bluetooth topics in this board. There are several users complaining, that their devices did work with very old mobiles, but not with the newer ones.

  • E60 with 616 car kit

I am trying to pair the E60 phone with the 616 car kit in sim access mode. The phone and car kit go through the pairing process and generate the 16 digit code. The pairing completes on the phone but then the car kit requests a further pin code. Whatever code is then input is incorrect.
Has anyone got any ideas what I am doing wrong.
I have successfully paired a 6230i in this way but with the E60 I can only get it to pair in handsfree mode and not sim access mode.

The pin its asking for is your sim card pin number as the 616 car kit takes over as the phone so it needs the pin to access the sim card correctly. Same as if you stick your sim card in another phone. See page 20 of the user manualMessage Edited by krytens4000 on 06-Oct-2006

  • N95 not disconnecting from 616 car kit correctly

We have 2 cars that have 616's and users with N95's.  Both kits fitted professionally to a BMW and a VW, and phone as kits are about a year old.  Everything has been working great, but over the last month they have both developed the same problem, where the N95 still thinks it's connected to the kit, and needs restarted.  They can then go back into the car again and it connects fine.  The firmware on the phones have been upgraded, but the problem still happens.
Does anyone have any ideas, is it the phones or the car kits that are having the problem?
They are connecting to the kit in sim access mode.

    Thanks for your help.
When I wrote my post there was no special N95 compatible version of the contacts downloader.
Meanwhile there is a compatible version of the contacts downloader and with it I am able to download my contacts from the N95 to the Nokia 610.
You can find the N95 compatible version in the download section of the Nokia 610.

  • Nokia N95 GPS - 616 Car Kits

When i use the GPS on my N95 - if it connnectd to the car kit the voice navigation does not come on - i have to diconnect from the kit to use GPS properly. If i use the remote sim option it mute the radio at all times until i close the nagivation application. Any suggestions

Looks to be a problem with a lot of car kits... many don't do the bluetooth audio thing - tho they do phone calls fine (different profiles I guess...)
So when you pair the phone to the car you loose the Nav voice because the phone is trying to pass all things audio over the bluetooth link - even if the car doesn't know what to do with it..
Leaving you in the position where calls work fine but voice nav is lost...
It'd be nice if we could leave the nav using the phone speakers and the calls using the bluetooth car kit... it might be a bit of a compromise but at least it would keep us legal whilst driving and still allow the use of the maps.. after all where better to use a nav app than in a car???
Pity Nokia seemed to have missed this one....

  • E50 connected to Parrott CK3100 Car Kit

Having recently bought a E50 i cannot connect the phone to my car kit. I have been advised that if i download the software for the 616 car kit using the version for the e60 phone it will work fine. Unfortunatley the e50 phone will not accept the 5.30 version and the phone says system error when trying to upload. I can get connected and the phone will let me make and recieve calls but no phone book contacts appear which is a big pain.
A great phone but it may be on ebay sooner than i think.
    Alex

If you have not already flogged it on eBay, or found an answer, it would seem to be to use the 610 contact sync software and follow the steps at the following link - HERE
It worked for me anyway. The phonebooks are synched. Battery & signal strength do not show but otherwise a quick test seemed to show everything else OK
