E50 Contacts

Hi,
I have a problem with my Nokia E50. I store all the phone numbers in the contacts as full, with country codes, etc. I append a contry code even to the ones that are in my home country (Latvia, +371), so a local Latvian number such as 27654321 is stored as +37127654321... Alright, I think you get it.
The problem is, whenever I receive a call from any of these local numbers when I'm in the country of my operator, the display shows the actual number of the caller, without the country code, and no contact name whatsoever. This comes with irritation, since I can't remeber this many phones to always figure out who's calling. I haven't had a problem like this back in my Nokia 3310 days.
Is there some configuration setting I've missed, that shows contact names instead of numbers upon receiving a call, or is an operator issue, or whatnot?

Hmm after i upgraded my firmware/software in my E50, i have the same problem, so i am looking for a downgrade, so if anyone has a older firmware/software version I would really like to have it.
I contacted Nokia Care Center and they say its a known problem and that it maybe will be solved on the next upgrade, but they don't know when. But why do they not warn people then instead of letting people upgrade the software? Its almost like microsoft, they know it has bugs, but they don't warn people.

  • Nokia E50 contacts list synchronisation problem

    Hello.
I have a problem. My contacts list in my cell phone keep two or more one type records per contact (for example when man have two mobile phones and ones stored in contacts list with same label 'mobile'). When I do synchronise my phone with PC so only 1st record stores per each contact with two or more identical labels. When I try to see contacts list by Nokia Phone Browser I see each contacts with first 'mobile' label too. Second, third, etc not shown. How I can to do full synchronise in this case?

  • Query on viewing contacts data on my E50

Just had my E50 a week or so & am still finding my way around it. I agree with previuos posts re font size & the contacts view in PC suite that hangs....
I have just sent over my 650 odd Outlook contacts via synchronise & can see that the E50 lists all the contacts by name - & I can also agree with a previous post that it would be nice that you could search for the first name as well as the family name of your contact.
As a business user though who finds it difficult to remember 650 names, it would be far far better for me to list by company rather tht by name.
Is there any way of doing this - except of course changinging my Outlook file by placing a name in the company slot & the company in the name slot?
Now that is an option I would love Nokia to do in a future softwate update!

    Hi,
You can check if there are any time stream ids with weighing factors used in the storage profile. Those can be changed to 30/70 and the data would be disaggragted in 30 / 70 then.
Also check if the KF time based disaggregation  in planning area is based on any other KF, then the values in the reference KF would be acting as a proportion for calculation of disaggregation. You can change the values in reference KF for achieving the same result also.
Let me know if it helps.

  • E50 number to contact name matching bug?

    Hello,
    I just got an E50 (RM-170, software V 07.36.00).
It seems to have a very irritating bug in the way numbers are matched to contacts in the 'recent calls' lists:
    - an entry in the list will show the contact name *only if* the number appears only once in the contact list;
    - otherwise the entry only shows the number.
This happens all the time with my well organized (synced ith my PC) contact list where 2 members of the same family typically have entries with different mobile numbers, but same landline numbers. In that case the landline number will never be matched to a contact name.
To me this is not a 'feature', but definitely a bug. All other (non-Nokia) phones I have owned have the much more usable behaviour of showing in the calls list the name for the first (or last - who cares) contact that matches a call number.
Is there a  software update that fies this bug for the E50?

What you are supposed to do is to save all the different number for a contact under the same contact name eg. Joe Soap - Home, Joe soap - mobile etc.
Well this is exactly what I do: I have
     - Joe Soap
        - Home (xxxxxxxxx)
        - Mobile (yyyyyyyyy)
    But I have also:
     - Jane Soap
        - Home (xxxxxxxxx)
        - Mobile (zzzzzzzzz)
And this where the Nokia bug hits:
When Joe or Jane Soap call me from their home number xxxxxxxxx (which is the same for both contacts):
    - any other (sensible)  phone would match xxxxxxxxx to a contact (Joe or Jane Soap - I don't really care which Soap);
    - but the Nokia insists on showing the bare number xxxxxxxxx, without matching it to a contact.

  • E50, PC Suite: Problems in Calendar & Contacts

Hai. Installed newest Nokia PC Suite 7.1.51.0 on my E50
When i am in contacts i can't see all phone numbers in detailed section. For e. g.  have one contact with two numbers of same type. Only one is displayed.
In main view of the PC Suite i can see the to do's  typed in through phone. But in calendar view or in list view not. F5 is done before. And from PC Suite i can't generate a new ToDo.

    Hey, don't give up yet...
I think that IMediaControl2 is one interface from PC Suite's ServiceLayer.exe component. Somehow installation can not register ServiceLayer.exe in your PC....
It is quite difficult to know what is going wrong...It would be nice to get some traces from your PC. (Then I can compare traces with my PC and find out what may cause this problem).
If you can take the logs, do this:
    1. Go to http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html and download Filemon (it is end of the page).
    2. Start FileMon.exe and click 'Options', 'Filter/Highlight..' and set string: *servicelayer*;regsvr*;*services.exe*;*service~1*;*ConnectionManager* to 'Include' option.
    3. Go to http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html and download Regmon (it is end of the page).
    4. Start RegMon.exe and click 'Options', 'Filter/Highlight..' and set string: *servicelayer*;regsvr*;*services.exe*;*service~1*;*ConnectionManager* to 'Include' option.
    5. Click Start, Run, give command:
    "C:\Program Files\Common Files\PCSuite\Services\ServiceLayer.exe" /service
    and then OK
    7. After that wait 20 seconds and open Nokia Connection Manager.
    8. If same error again, save logs and attach those log files to your response message....

  • Contact Limit E50!!!!!!

Which is the maximum of contacts that I can store in the nokia E50 and has multicontact not?

I faced this problem too: I used to happily sync nearly 11,000 contacts with MobileMe but then everything stopped with iCloud in the manner you described.
Turns out that there are limits. In my case, it wasn't the number of contacts that caused this freeze, so much as the size of the database. If your database exceeds 24mb you are in trouble; with headshots and extensive notes, mine was nearly 80mb!
Here's what Apple's online support says about all this:
    Contacts
Total number of contact cards: 25,000
Maximum size of a contact card: 128 KB
Maximum size of all contact cards: 24 MB
    Card text: 24 MB
    Card photos: 24 MB
Supported file types for a contact photo: JPEG
    vCard import limits:
    Total number of vCards: 25,000
Maximum size of a vCard: 128 KB
Maximum photo size for a vCard: 96 KB
Really don't know the solution around this, other than to find a database that can carry that load and then try to reduce the address book files to their barest minimum. Weeks of pain ahead!

  • E50 Outlook Contacts Synch Causes a Problem for my...

Whenever I synch up my Outlook 2003 contacts to my E50, I can see all of my Outlook contacts, but the phone is not displaying the regular (SIM) contacts anymore. In order to get to my SIM contacts, I have to go to "Contacts" --> "Options" --> "SIM Contacts" --> "SIM Directory".
Also, when I synch up my Outlook contacts with my phone, I do not get the caller info (Ex.name) if that caller is one of the SIM Contacts. It will only show the name for the Outlook contacts.
Is there a fix for that? Or maybe it is a user error?
    Thanks!

by holding down the power button until it turns off.  It should take 5-10 seconds.  Or, you first may want to try and force quit Outlook.
"To force quit an application, choose Force Quit from the Apple menu (or press Command-Option-Esc), then choose the unresponsive application in the Force Quit window, and click Force Quit.
Optionally, you may be able to Option-right click the application's icon in the Dock and choose Force Quit from the contextual menu.
Additionally, you can force quit the front-most application in Mac OS X v10.5 or later by pressing Command-Option-Shift-Esc for three seconds."

My old E50 finally gave up and I bought a 2730 to replace it. My contacts are in PC Suite but I can't access them without connecting the phone first, which I can't as it's faulty. How can I access the contacts that I know are on the PC, without connecting the phone they came off? I don't have sync files.

You can search in PC Suite's data folder for files named *.db:
The PCCSContact.db is SQLite3 database, you can use any SQLite3 reader to open it. There's also a tool: http://sourceforge.net/projects/noknokwhosthere/

  • Questions in regards to connectivity of the E50

    Hi all,
I have a Nokia E50 phone which I regularly connect to my PC via the USB cable. The Nokia PC Suite software is installed and everything is working fine.
When connecting the phone to the computer a message on the phone prompts me for two modes. I can't remember what the prompt actually is, but it asks the user whether the phone should be operated in synchronisation mode, in order to sycnhronise contacts with help of the Nokia PC suite software, or whether the phone should be used as a standard USB removable device. When choosing the latter the device is detected correctly as a "removable drive" and is assigned with the native XP USB mass storage driver. As I understand the storage point of the phone in this case would be the flash memory card. OK, so far so good.
When choosing the synchronisation mode I understand that the internal phone memory is used and the PC suite software acts as an "interpretor" between the internal phone memory and the Windows XP system. The synchronisation mode works fine, but everytime I connect the phone to the computer and choose sync mode Windows XP recognises it as a USB device, but cannot really determine which driver needs to be installed. It therefore tries to guide me through the manual installation of the USB driver, everytime I choose to connect the phone to the computer in synchronisation mode. I can cancel the manual installation and the phone remains to work fine with the PC suite software, however I have two questions:
    1. Is this behaviour normal
    2. As what kind of device is the phone supposed to show up when connecting it with the PC suite software? Will it be detected by the system as a genuine USB device in this case, which I cannot imagine because the internal memory is used, or is it detected as another device, e.g. modem?
If anyone has any information on this please let me know. Thank you very much in advance.

    I appreciate the helpful responses!
I was told by one of the employees at the Apple store I called, that I wouldn't need to remove the sim and just simply delete my 3G account Information. Then on my new iPad, set It up/log In with the same Information I had on the previous one and I would still retain my account. I wouldn't have any problems restoring the iPad with the sim Inside the device as well.
I don't see a way to actually delete the Information since you would have to log In to your account beforehand. Would I need to log In and delete all the account Information or just simply complete a backup and restore the device?

  • NOKIA E51 - Is it possible to search contacts in a...

I have a new Nokia E51, very great device, but I have to manage 2243 contacts (!). The (new) actual searching contacts way is just crazy for me: if I try to write the word john... the phone shows me hundreds of contacts with that part of word.
I'd like to know if there is a way to set the phone so to search contacts using names in the usual alphabetical order: just writing the first letter, than the second ,the third, and so on?
Somebody on this forum suggested to use Text-Quick (http://mind-flip.com/textquick/index.html) but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work in that way, but just keeping memory of more searched contacts.
It is really really annoying the way it searches.
    Help please!
Somebody else on this forum said It is a bit counter intuitive at first, but once you get used to it the wider search is actually much better than the first name search (particularly if your memory for names isn't too great) but what you can do if you have thousands of contacts?
There will be soon an alternative option in the contacts settings for next E51 firmware?
    Thank you

You wanna know the weirdest thing...
In my E51 it DOESN'T search for any string even in the middle.. it only searches alphabetically on the first name or the last name. But not something in the middle.
HOWEVER, other applications that show the contact list, such as Fring, *DO* search on any in-between string.
So apparently the phone can do both.. I don't see it as a setting though.
As a personal preference I think I would prefer being able to search for any in-between string.. I mean to me it just seems like a natural transition from the old days when contact names were in SIM memory and you only had like 8 characters to enter someone so you ended up with loads of "John K", "JLee" and other cryptic but short names.
These days I would recommend that if your contact is called "John Samolowicz" to actually spell that out in the appropriate fields. Then you find someone instantly by searching for something more unique than his first name...
AND/OR use the 'Groups' feature: If you put people in groups then simply moving to the tab to the right from the contacts list would give you a much reduced list of people in a particular group; Don't tell me that you actually CALL 2000 people on a regular basis..
To search middle string, use the SEARCH from OFFICE Folder. You can find on the Contact part of search result.

  • E50 voice tags are not cteated

    Hello all
I've got Nokia E50 and 360 contacts. My contacts name are written in Russian. When I copy the contacts from the memory card the first 100 contacts the voice tags are created only for first 100 numbers.
I've installed the latest firmaware 07.36.0.0 - the same result. My friend has got the same phone and he reported no problem with voice tags. He has more than 100 contact and everyone has voice tags. We copied MY CONTACTS to HIS PHONE and HIS CONTACTS to my one. His contacts in my phone have voice tags, but my contacts in his phone - no.
We analized our contacts and found the only difference - my contact's names are stored in russian, but his - in english. I converted all my contacts in english and now all my contacts have voice tags.
But I want russian names! Why 100 russian contacts have voice tags, but other don't have?
did anybody see smth like this?

    Thanks Mohjo,
    Your reply is much appreciated.
I did do several searches but not for SIND or N series phones. didn't know it was called that.
Anyhow, I understand what it does but still think its rubish
What was wrong with the old 'record your own voice tag' system?
OWI!, Nokia!, NO!. If it ant' broke, don't fix it!.
I now the the task of going through all my contacts to check if the voice tag the phone wants to use is ANYTHING like the one I want to use.
It's taken the edge of showing off my new phone to me mates and saying look what mine does. And yes I am shallow.
And its only costing me £20 a month.

  • Import phonebook from E50 to 3120 Classic

Dear fellows, I've just exchanged from E50 to 3120 Classic phone. Before returning E50 I backed up my phonebook in my 1Gb memory card, and each contact appeared as a vcf file. Then, I put the memory card into my 3120, and the files are there, but 3120 does not recognize the vcf files as phonebook entries.
How do I solve this? What is the file type that 3120 works with and how can I convert vcf files into this?
I really appreciate your help, since I have 200+ contacts which I do not intend to type one by one into my new phone.
    Thanks a lot!

well the fundamental issue is that you have moved from a business oriented device to a very basic phone, e50 is a s60 phone 3120 is a s40 phone they work on different platforms therefore compatability is an issue here. did you try to copy your contacts to the sim card while using the e50 and then just swap the sim card to your new phone? a new sim card - under 2 years old or so should have capacity for up to 250 contacts. ifyou say that you have only about 200 you should be able to do so without any issues.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • OVI Contacts sync with Outlook

    Hi,
Is there a way to import my contacts entries from Outlook to the OVI application?  I tried several times but it only works the opposite way round.
    thanks,
    stefan

I decided to try the latest PC Suite 7.1.18.0, same problem. Given that both Nokia suites use pretty much the same underlying PCSync utility, I suspect it was a glitch between PCSync and Outlook 2007 and the way the contacts are flagged/timestamped as you upgrade the versions of Outlook AND PCSync.
Initially I had synced my N78 contacts with the Switch tool from my E50. On the PC side, I upgraded from an older Outlook to Outlook 2007 AND to the new nokia suites. Seems that changing both software pieces at the same time is a no-no.
Manual merge (applies when you have few contacts - 150 in my case):
    1. Create a new contacts folder on Outlook (say DummyContacts) and sync into it (one way) all your mobile contacts.
    2. Then on Outlook 2007, copy & paste the contacts from DummyContacts into your primary Contacts folder. Make sure that "duplicate contact detection" is on before you cut & paste. Outlook will take you thru all the contacts that were updated on both sides, so that you can verify the conflicts. The notes field is appended to, so you'll have to edit any contacts with notes after the copy/paste.
    3. Erase all contacts from your mobile, sync into it (one way) the contacts from Outlook.
After that, the 2-way sync seems to work, both with Ovi and PC suites.

  • Sharing Phone - Protecting Contacts From Accidental Dialing

I have a smartphone that also syncs up real-time to my work email and contacts via touchdown.
I also let my kids/spouse use the phone from time to time.  how do I ensure that they can use the phone and dial someone, without accidentally calling one of my business contacts?
Right now, my contacts are easily available on the phone application and my child/spouse could easily dial one of them up by accident which could lead to embarrasing situations.
    thanks

It will be happened, only if you tap a name with single phone number, so you need no select which number of him/her you want to call. Some may prefer there should be a prompt before calling like it's seems you want to say, but others will consider a needless prompt there will slow down calling procedure.
