E51 : a strange new icon appears and more ...
few days back i had updated my one year old almost perfect E51. Prior to the update the only problem i would face was auto restart during long EGPRS data sessions(no 3G in India yet). After the update i observe that the auto restarts have reduced, the phone bootup time is prologned almost doubly and to it seems the voice call quality has gone a little down on both ends.
Also after several new application downloads i have suddenly noticed a new ICON permanently appearing just below the Battery level indicator on the Home Screen. The new Icon shape is a TRAY (horizontally laid square bracket of keyboard) with a vertical upwards pointing ARROW in the middle of the TRAY.
any idea what this icon stands for.

Curious -- Startup question (Hard Disk icon appear and computer is frozen)
I came home today, turned on my new MacBook Pro 15" and stepped away. A very few seconds later I came back and instead of seeing everything all loaded up as usual, I got a grey screen with a picture of my hard drive in the center with an arrow pointing up towards it under it. I tried to use my mouse, to no effect. Everything was just frozen. No question mark or warning, just a photo-realistic picture of my hard drive (or a standard Apple hard drive) and that arrow. I clicked the power button, and it restarted and everything worked fine. Could someone give me some advice/feedback as to what this was? Is it symptomatic of a more serious hard drive problem?
Wonderlad: If your MBP started up just fine on the second try, and you were able to run Disk Utility's Repair Disc routine twice on it (as in fact you did) without any major problems showing up, you probably have nothing to worry about. It sounds as though you inadvertently pressed the Option key the first time you started up (when the hard disk icon appeared and the startup didn't continue), or made some other minor mistake of that sort.
Each of your hard drives is represented by at least two lines in the left pane of Disk Utility. The upper line for each drive shows the drive's manufacturer and model number (in the case of an external drive, it's the drive unit inside the enclosure, not the maker of the enclosure); the line or lines indented beneath that one are the volumes (partitions) you've created on the drive. It sounds as though each of your drives has only one volume on it, and if that's true, the Repair Disk button has the same effect regardless of whether you've selected the drive mechanism or the volume on it.
When there's a CD or DVD in your optical drive, the optical drive mechanism and the disc also appear in Disk Utility's left pane. Disk Utility can't repair them, though. -
i was using 3G in my iPad 3, after few days the 3G icon disappeared and instead E icon appeared and my net is very slow with this E icon
Did you Check in settings - cellular data that 3G is enabled? Menus could be named slightly different since I use iOS 6.

when attempting to format region and set date and time the busy icon appears and seems to stay like this?
Click on DU's Partition tab when you have the raw drive name selected, then set it to one partition, Mac OS Extended. If it crashes or freezes, it is finding a bad block and can't write.
In any event, if you want to use the drive, and have not zeroed it before, you should now.
Click on Erase -> Security Options -> Zero out data. Still with the full drive selected and not any partition(s).
Then repartition the drive if needed.
Boot from the DVD if that doesn't work. And no, TTPro has never mapped out bad blocks let alone create partitions.
Disk Utility in 10.4.8 is quite good, excellent in fact. No need for an alternative.
Your eMac drive may need to touch of Disk Utility itself. FSCK from the command line, clear the caches with Applejack along with check for corrupt plists. Between Disk Utilty and Applejack (free/shareware) never had to use TechTool Pro - or at least there weren't any errors after those two got done. But if you want a good 3rd party, pick up Disk Warrior 4. -
When trying to load a new app the icon appears then the word waiting appears underneath then nothing at all?
You can try using the full offline Adobe Reader installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise

After updates, new icons appear on desktop
I have minimal knowledge of computers and their processes. Except for minor issues like this one, my new Mac works beautifully.
SITUATION: Three icons -- carrier.ram, carrier-1.ram, and reference.exe.download -- have recently appeared on my desktop. I don't know where they came from or what they do or what they are. I suspect that they appeared during weekly updates, but I didn't notice them then. The reference icon appeared first, several weeks ago. The carrier icons appeared yesterday, I suspect, but I don't know for sure, because I don't routinely inventory my desktop.
Question 1: Would an update leave such things behind, on the desktop?
Question 2: What should I do with them? At this rate, my desktop will eventually be filled with icons that, so far as I know, I won't use.
- Throw them into the Trash?
- Move them to a folder somewhere?
- Allow them to accumulate?
Question 3: Where can I go to find out what these icons represent?
Mac mini 1,25 GHz,512 MB, 40 GB combo Mac OS X (10.4.5) Nec MultiSync LCD 175 VX. Lexar Jump Drive plugged into top of Belkin USB hub.1) Nope. Update wouldn't leave such things behind.
Those are probably files that your browser put there. I think the default location (at least for Safari) is to save downloaded files to the desktop. You can change the download location in the browser preferences so your desktop doesn't get cluttered.
The .ram files are Real Audo Media.
The reference.exe.download is an incomplete downloaded file.
2) Delete them. Since you don't know what they are you won't miss them. I have my downloads all going into a folder called 'Browser Downloads.'
3) Google? -
Remove strange new icon - no downloads this page
What is the the new icon that has appeared in the tool bar?
Looks like a red duck with head phones on and when you hover your mouse it has no downloads this page?I would guess that it is part of a "download" add-on that you installed??

IPod Adapter icon appears and nothing else happens HELP
i got this ipod and all of a sudden a picture (icon) appears on the screen its a picture of a ipod Usb port adapter and nothing else happens its stuck there if anyone knows what to do please help.
ThanxIf you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -
4th iPod in 2 months: Sad face icon appears and freezes entire iPod
Why does this continue to happen? I receive a free, brand new iPod from Apple. I upload all my purchased songs, videos, and podcasts. I listen to iPod and hear the songs freeze then bam!, the iPod shuts down, only to reboot with the sad face icon appearing.
Here is what I know is not causing the issues.
-not temperature related.
-all songs are legit, itunes bought. (1300 to be exact)
-iPod is listened to very little. Maybe 30 minutes a day so heavy use is not an issue.
What may be causing it:
-Car charger/frequency player.
-Bad hardware, but 4 in a row? I think not.
What am I doing to make these iPods go caput?Have a read through this.

Office 2013 on RDS, icon appears and dissapears
Hello.
We have multiforest enviroment. Forest A ( there are accounts ) and forest B where are APPV mgmt and RDS servers. Users from Forest A login to RDS servers in forest B with no problem. We have domain group (say FS USERS) in forest B that includes users account
from forest A and we publish MS Office for this group.
Every other application published for domain group "FS USERS" work, but MS Office 2013 not. When logging, Office icons for 8seconds appears and after that disappears ( i think when office intergration task run ).
When i publish office for group in domain B and
accounts that comes from domain B, office works.
Can anyone recommend
what to do, what check?
I enable debug logging but nothing special found.
Thanks, JanHello.Yes, jump to fully supported model.
I write before, we try it, 1 ODT per machine like we are using for any other packages.
We end with error :
The virtual application 'C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE' could not be started because the App-V Subsystem 'Virtual Shell' could not be initialized. {error: 0xC701525-0x54F}
The virtual application 'C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE' could not be started because the App-V Subsystem 'Registry Staging' could not be initialized. {error: 0x78A00A0A-0xA0005}
The main and annoying effect is when user logon, there popup dialog:
Runtime Error!
Program: c:\windows\explorer.exe
R6030
- CRT not initialized
I must run explorer.exe from task manager manualy ( CTRL+ALT+END) and after that office appears
There is empty RUNVIRTUAL entry in registry.
We have latest APPv subsystem. Appv-SP3, resp. 5.0.10107.0
Server is on clean install, W2008R2Ent
It doesn't matter if user is form forest or local domain, have redirected %APPDATA% or not.

Mirroring icon appearing and no external display connected
Hi guys!
Recently I bought an iPad and updated my mac to the latest version of OS X Yosemite. All from sudden, the mirroring icon appeared on the top bar of my mac. When I click it I can only open display preferences, which only shows my macbook. I can hide it by unchecking that box, but I don't think this should be the right solution.
I have already restarted the computer and also tried clicking on Detect display option by holding the option key.
Thank you!Today it started to work by it self.
So for now the case is closed -
Curve 8520. Small clock icon appearing and very slow running
My curve is operating really slowly and when I try to open or send a text or open a mail, I get a very small clock icon appear. After about 20 secs, the text or mail opens. Not able to send any e mails either. Thought too many stored mails may be the problem but device won't now allow me to delete. Battery also running low after just a few hours, even after fully charging.
1. Do a reboot on the device: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
2. To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.
If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your memory will get used up. Lack of memory is the biggest reason your BlackBerry slows to a crawl or locks up. If you get into the habit of actually using the menu key to close the applications this will at least slow down this memory-clogging process. You still may have to do a battery pull or use the "Quickpull" app once in a while when things get slow.
To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.
So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps). -
I have a Macbook Pro and today I noticed the familiar "fox around the globe" icon was gone from my dock and in it's place was something that looks like a protracting compass, like the letter "A" on a sheet of paper . When I clicked on it, "Firefox" opened? Is that some kind of spyware or virus?
Try the solution from this thread:
* [[/questions/883573]]
* Delete the Firefox icon from the dock.
* Create a new icon by dragging the Firefox application to the dock. -
New icons appear on Hard Drive
When I opened my Hard Drive, I noticed several new icons besides the usal five:
. Developer
. Developer (from old Mac)
. Developer (from old Mac) 2
What are those, and should I move them to the trash?Developer are the Developer applications and utilities, you must have downloaded them at some point.
If yu don't plan to use them you can delete the Developer folder.
In any event you can delete the (from old Mac) folders. -
