E51 Contacts - names won't register
hi folks, was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. i synced my contacts from my mac via bluetooth. should be fine but when i receive messages or calls, my phone just shows the numbers and not the contacts' names. i've checked all my contacts and no numbers duplicate from one contact to the next. what do you guys think is wrong, and what should i do?
I had the same problem before. What you have to do is to edit your contacts, as you will notice, the name of your contacts is listed as LAST NAME, you should edit it to be in FIRST NAME. no worries from now on, hope it helps....

Incoming calls and messages with international prefix (e.g. +1) won't display the name of the contact. Those without a prefix do display. Can someone help me figure out why and how to fix it?
check that you dont have that number duplicated in your contacts list. Try deleting the contact and re-entering it. Remember if you solve the problem the messages that are already in the inbox wont change to show the name.

SMS and MMS cannot display contact name (E51)
I try to restore a backup file, from my old 3230 and 6670, via Nokia PC Suite into my newly bought E51, everything work just fine.
But I noticed that the sender of SMS and MMS in E51 [inbox] only display in number(e.g. '+601********'), instead of sender name as in [contacts](e.g. 'Michael'). Even I select the text message, choose [options] > [Add to Contacts] > [Create New]/[Update existing], it won't work, neither with the country code (+601*******) or without (01********). (note: I'm very sure that phone number is not duplicated in the contact).
Somehow, a good news is, any sms or mms received from the network provider can display the sender name according to [contacts], and it store as it even after I deleted the saved item in [contact] or rename the entry. Ha ha, a bit complicated compare to the S60v2 phone...
Anyone have idea on this?23-Oct-2008 07:01 AM

I have a similar problem. Would be grateful for some much needed help, please...
Hi there,
my E66 has the exact same problem. IN addition when in coming calls come in, they don't show the contact name. It only shows the number. I think it may hae to do with new contacts added after contacts from your old phone were added. I also notice that my old contacts transferred to the phone doesn't have the extra menu 'syncronisation'. -
My iPhone 4s won't display my contact names in my message, although the number is still linked to the correct contact in my phone book.
Recently updated with iOS 5.1.1, I've read elsewhere about a possible bug associated with the update?Hello, Sue.Darby.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend having your friend check to see if call and message blocking is enabled on their end. Here is some information regarding that feature.

My messages won't say the contact name only shows the phone number, how do you change this when the contact is in my phone under that number already?
I thought that at first, but I have text this person before and had received responses in a timely manner. Its just weird that it all of a sudden removed their name.
Would this affect the delivery of the text message? -
Phone won't show contact name in recents list
Phone won't show contact name while somebody call me, the same is in recent list under number is unknown. I already reset my phone and try to make new contact when somebody called me and it isn't work.
you have entered the number in the wrong format. There should be no zeros. IF you were entering my number then that would be +617 XXXX XXXX with the + being the international dial out code and 61 being the country code 7 the area code without leading zeros and rest being my number.
If someone wanted to call me from insider the country but from another state they would dial 07 XXXX XXXX but the international dialing format would still work. Note that the 0 in the area code is not used in the international dialing format -
E51 doesn't display contact names (no duplicates)
Hi y'all,
I've been using using my E51 for about 2 years, and it suddenly stopped displaying the contact names for SMS messages.
There are no duplicates in the contact list.
The thing is, it's started when I synced my phone with Ovi online.
Could anybody find a solution for this ?
It's quite annoying not having the names of the contacts ...well it has to be the names the phone can only identify one number to a name so you will have to make new names for the contacts ie john and john 1 and stored seperatly, you need to check for duplicate contacts again and what memory your using your phone book in either the phone or sim memory
If i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.
Now using the Lumia 1520 -
I am trying to text from my new IPad2 and some of the contacts names turn red and won't allow me to send. Why?
The recipients have to have an apple device and an apple id.

New 4S won't recognize contact names for messages
I just got the new 4S iPhone (woohoo!). Everything synced to this new phone, including my contacts. However, it's doing this strange thing with the texts -- its not recognizing the phone numbers with my contacts. So, although I have the number stored under someone's name in my phone, the text is only showing the phone number .... What can I do to change this???
I even tried saying these text messages under the contacts name, but it still won't do anything.I recently updated over the air to ios 5.1 over the air on my iphone. Now when I send texts to other iphone users, it is showing my old apple id as my identification on their iphones...instead of my name/mobile number shown in their contacts. I recently updated my apple id to a new email address because I changed carriers. Accessing itunes store with new apple id works fine.
So I send a text to my friend and he sees "[email protected]" instead of my name which is in his contacts. The same thing happens with other people with iphones. I have VW as my carrier. If I send texts to non iphone users, they show my name as listed in their contacts. So definitely an iphone to iphone issue.
I tried reprogramming the phone using *228 with VW and pressing 1. It hasn't helped. It also went back to normal for a day so I thought it was fixed, but is happening again now.
This is so frustrating. My iphone friends don't know who I am when I text them so they aren't responding!!!! -
E71 won't display contacts name it displays number...

Cisco SIP Phone 9971 won't register on CME 8.6
Hello,
I'm facing a very strange problem:
a Cisco SIP Phone 9971 won't register on CME 8.6 running on a 2811
I have read all the related-postings to this and other Forum, but I have not been able to solve it.
One of the "potential solutions" was to make sure that the Phone had a Line configured.
But I think that the commands voice register dn and voice register pool are properly configured (see config below)
So frankly, I have no idea what I could be missing.
I'm pasting the Router's config.
I hope somebody is able to point me in the right direction.
Here is the config. Thank you!

</device>Hello,
I'm facing exactly the same problem, that is:
a Cisco SIP Phone 9971 won't register on CME 8.6 running on a 2811
I have read all the postings to this Forum, but I have not been able to solve it.
In my case the commands voice register dn and voice register pool are OK.
So frankly, I have no idea what I could be missing.
I'm pasting the Router's config.
I hope somebody is able to point me in the right direction.
Here is the config. Thank you!

IPhone not showing contacts names in text messaging after sync AND reset
Three days ago, I bought the iPhone 4S as an updgrade from the 3GS. I also transferred my wireless service plan from AT&T to Verizon. Since doing that, very strange things are happening. For example, my contacts appeared to transfer without a problem, but whenever I attempt a call to a number that does not have a "1" stored in front of it, it tells me that I am attempting a long-distance or international call and the call won't go thru unless I place a 1 in front of the number and store it that way. Also, whenever I send text messages and someone replies, their message comes back to my phone under the phone number only and not the name that is stored in my contacts. This happens even when the contact sends a direct message to me that is not a reply. (Imagine all the "Merry Christmas" messages I received yesterday that I have no idea who they were from, except the 5 out of 300 contacts whose numbers I have memorized!!) I have gone to the Apple Store and the "Genius" there reset my phone, which temporarily fixed the problem, but now it is back. I did a soft reset, now it randomly selects which names will show up in my text message window. (For example, yesterday, the name "Jane" shows a message that says "Merry Christmas", but after the reset, only Jane's number shows up in the text screen with the same message from yesterday.)
Does anyone know what in the world is going on?? This is Very Annoying! I'm tempted to go back to AT&T, as I am being told that the iphone technology, even for 4S, is not as compatible on Verizon as it is with AT&T. Please help! Not sure about the random contact name problem. I suspect a bad database. Use iTunes to delete and replace your contacts with a good list. If that doesn't work, do a 100% software reset and don't restore a backup, setup as a new device. Finally, if that fails go back to the apple store. The issue is not software fixable and the unit should be replaced.
The other issue with 1 dialing required... are you roaming? Disable wifi, should say Verizon 3G in the status bar.
When you are off your home area cell network, you are not dealing with Verizon directly.
Edit: your last question about using a Verizon 4S on AT&T's network. You are correct, out of the box the Verizon 4S is locked to only work on Verizon's network. The AT&T 4S and Sprint 4S have the same locks. You can purchase an unlocked iPhone directly from apple. I've also heard of people convincing Sprint customer service to unlock their phones for use out of the country, -
How do I get contact names to appear in the Verizon Messages browser version?
Hey Guys,
I just got the S5 and was giving the Verizon Messages app a shot since Mighty Text is acting a little wonky with Kit Kat and won't sync outgoing browser texts with the phone. With the VZW Messages app sending and receiving texts from my phone and browser works fine but I wanted the contact names to show up in the browser window. I figured Verizon was pulling the data from the cloud storage and not directly from the phone so I synced my contacts with vzw cloud but it only synced 35 out of my 350 contacts. They all originated from Google Contacts and seamlessly imported to my new phone from my old one.
Any ideas?Having the ability to access your contacts via Verizon Messages is very important JoeVoorhees. I am happy to inform you that with Verizon Messages, you do have the ability to import your contacts. To do this, simply sign into your Verizon Messages online>on the upper right hand side>click on menu>manage contacts>import contacts>on the top right hand side of the page you will see a picture of your phone and sync. Click on sync.
Thank You,
MichelleL_VZW

Printing Company Name and Contact Name on Labels
Does anyone know how to print BOTH the company name and contact name on the label in address book? I have read the "fixes" but they won't work for me .. I have a 10,000 person mailing list ... so I can't hand fix each one. Will this problem with address book be fixed in Leopard?
THANK YOU FOR ANY AND ALL HELP IN THIS MATTER.Welcome to the discussions, Shadrach.
I think the only way to do this is with a 3rd-party application such as Roll Call Directory, which reads the AB database but gives you greater flexibility in printing labels.

Hi all I uploaded the new update last week & this week tried taking a photo and shutter image won't open so I can take a photo ? Also can't send out a regular text message? I have iPhone 3g, could the upgrade have caused this to malfuntion? Not sure
