E51 Improvements

My list of things I'd like changed/fixed:
No carriage return/new line facility in Mail / Text editing (unless there's a key combo for it ?). This is a real pain for me currently.
In SMS / Text editing the Reply To and Delete Text options should be above Call Sender (please!)
I changed the default right hand shortcut key (used to be Camera) to something else and now can't find where that option is again. Please put it with the other One-touch key options in Settings.
No shortcut available to go straight to my SMS / Text Inbox from a shortcut/one-touch key.
MSN (Live) chat (downloaded on phone) defaults to capitalising the first letter of every sentence. This is really annoying for normal chat and one-liners (lol, rtfm etc)
Needs better (more tactile) power and volume buttons.
The default earphones are horrendously uncomfortable, how about a decent set of in-ear options (Sennheiser etc) ?
Everything else is really cool, I particularly like the delete/backspace button and it's default action and confirmation on the d-pad to delete texts/messages !
Hopefully some of these can be fixed in future firmware updates or at least made optional if others disagree.

I have had my E51 a few days and the biggest annoyance is the selection of WLAN access points.
For SIP, I can define a set of access points (e.g. Home and Work) that are automatically selected when in coverage.
For other applications (e.g. Nokia Maps), If the application has been set to use access point "Work", and I try to use it at home, then it complains that there is no internet connection, or asks me to disconnect the access point, even though I have a good connection to my WLAN.
What I want is the ability to define a set of trusted (and free) access points, that the phone will automatically roam between without user intervention. This should be done below the application layer, so that all (including existing) applications can use the feature.
BTW, why doesn't Visual Radio allow me to select a WLAN access point?

  • E51 upgrade problem / slow contacts/messages respo...

    Hi there All..
I'm as many the proud and happy owner of a Nokia E51.
At first i found the software very responsive, quick and an great deal faster than my previous owned N95.
after a short while the following start to occur:
When i go form "desktop", active stadby i mean directly to "create message", or to messages through the fastkey it takes at least 20 seconds before i get where i want to be.
    Same goes for contacts.
    I tried the following:
-Hard Reset: *#7???# (dont remeber the code..)
    this worked for a day...
-removed my gmail IMAP cheking account from mailboxes.
    no improvement.
-tried to update the phone to new firmware 200.xxx.xx with Nokia Software Updater. Did not complete! It hung at the last 5 minutes and then told me the connection was broken and i should take out battery, replce and reconnect. and then press "again".
Did not work. So i just rebooted the phone and it seemed all normal, and the new firmware seems to be installed. But after a few days de phone became slower again as i described above. So i wanted to try the frimware installation again.
I thought maybe my windows installation is buggy, so i made a clean install on my personal computer (E8200, 4GB, Vistax64/WinXP32bit dual boot). And i tried again. Same error at the last 5 minutes remaining....
    My questions are these:
    - Slow messages / contacts - ||Is this normal? or else a know problem with a known solution? Does annyone have this experience also?
    - Freaky Firmware update - || Is this normal? or else a know problem with a known solution? Does annyone have this experience also?
forgive me my loosy engelish grammar and spelling.. i'm dutch.

  • E51 poor image quality and speaker tone, any soluti...

Hi! friends.I have bouht new E51.Its image quality taken from camera is poor.Although image resolution is high but low quality of camera is main problem. Is there any solution to improve image quality or any software to improve?
Also ringing tone is so much low.Is there bany solution to increase its ringing sound or any software?

I thought of that too so I tested on another machine with retina display and the file i saved on my machine looked bad on my machine and on the other comparable machine/display. So I sent them the original vector ai file and watched while they saved it the exact same way on their machine and the file looked fine on both of our machines/displays.
All of the settings they used appeared the same as what I used but with different results. I don't recall changing anything but does anyone know if there is some setting that could have been changed that is causing this issue?

  • Nokia e51 microsdhc error

    guyz
i have bought a sandisk 16gb microsdhc card...i was previously using a 8gb card which i was perfectly comfortable with.
i transferred all the contents of the 8gb card to the 16gb card (including all the sys private and all folders)
the memory card was working perfectly fine when some of the folders in the memory card became corrupt and they began to show that they had a memory of 117gb and contained all **bleep** folders in it.i wasnt able to delete it.
i had to format the memory card from my pc and i had to copy everything again.
the problem began again after three days.
i got another 16gb card and repeated everything when some of the folders became corrupt again.
i have updated my firmware to 220.34.37
and all i have got is the same error....
the only thing interesting and useful was i didnt have to install anything from the begininng
    everything was same
    nothing was deleted
my messages applications contacts everything of my phone memory was not deleted after firmware update
    but my firmware shows 220.34.37
guyz my 16gb microsdhc is failing me again
    pls do help me
this time it was the private folder
it had all files of size from 323 gb to 439 gb
    they were all corrupt
    pls do suggest something
    thanks

Are you absolutely sure that the 16gb microsdhc cards work with the E51? I tried googling it but I couldn´t find a satisfactory answer...
Maybe that is part of the solution to your problem...

  • Good alternative to E51

Hi there have had my E51 smartphone for ages and like it very much but feel like a change - all I am missing off the E51 really is no autofocus, no flash on the camera, & vga filming and built in GPS, so what model (i know I will have to be looking at a second-hand mobile) would fit my requirements?
So to recap the phone I am looking for would be: a Nokia, Symbian S60, Wi-Fi, GPS (possibly), Autofocus rear camera with LED flash, Front facing VGA Camera (possibly), FM Radio, Mini SD card, Non-Touch screen, same LCD screen where you can see image even when backlight off, mini USB socket, Charge by USB socket, Flashing LED notification light on front for missed calls and messages, inbuilt slide out QWERTY Kepad (Possibly).
What model number(s) Nokia phones fit that criteria please so I can search on ebay for one? Thanks.

Good question. I bought a secondhand N86 to replace my E51. Comparing the two, here is what I prefer about the N86:
GPS: a little quicker and more reliable than Maps Booster on E51
    autofocus and LED flash
[does have front facing camera, I'm not using it]
    full-size headphone jack
email stays on all the time checking for mail
FM Radio broadcasting to connect to stereo, car stereo
    Internet Radio more reliable
typing T9 a little more reliable; buttons better defined to sense of touch
    VGA filming
camera much better, better Gallery program
    bigger screen
While some things disappoint in comparison to the E51:
N86 noticeably heavier, harder to hold one handed, harder to hold while reading news etc for long time, harder to pocket; yet, also, almost too small when slide is not out; in general it is just harder to always have it with me
fiddly slide mechanism: wastes time, makes phone harder to hold because keypad profile so thin
no 'send to self' in email program; no apparent easy way of keeping sent emails on your IMAP server
email program, although 'updated', seems to require extra steps to check/read mail, and yet still does not off the full IMAP functionality
maximum ~1,500 addresses (had 2,500 in my E51); memory runs out with more
haven't found a flashing LED notification light
screen hard to read in sunlight; bad for camera use
It does surprise me how Nokia has been unable to improve on the E51, it is such a great phone and just needs a few tweaks really. But the E52 was not available in America, the C3-01 seems to have been withdrawn, and all the other recent candybar phones have drawbacks compared to the E51 (in my opinion). Nokia has uniquely offered a tiny-form-factor, capable smart phone for three years and does not seem to have developed it. I presume it did not sell well.
The E51 was not great at first, but its size and the following programs really made it work well for me: T9 Nav, Maps Booster, SmartConnect and Opera Mini
To be honest, I would almost stay with your E51 and wait and see what else Nokia can come up with. If you were thinking of getting a bigger, heavier phone, there are a lot more choices and not just Nokia.

Is it possible that after installing this firmware I cannot connect to my Bluetooth GPS receiver?
I am using Nokia E51 with SANAV BT48 (bluetooth with baudrate of 4800 gps receiver), it used to work ok, but after upgrading I get the "not connected" message when I start  the 'GPS data' application.
If i try to use any of the GPS location SW supplied with the phone sw, i get the following:
    1) looking for gps satellites
    2) calculating data (in the background i can see the message changing from "waiting for gps" to "not connected" immediately).
if I try the Nokia maps, the traffic light just blinks with orange light that moves left and right ....
I know the GPS is working properly on other devices (iPaq) and also i know it is paired correctly with the E51.
I  tried reinstalling the firmware and reverting to factory default. also tried several GPS SW (waze and sygic) as well as the SW supplied by Nokia, but with no results.
    PLEASE help.
    Thanks
    Roey

  • E51 Gmail notification

    Hello,
I've just setup my Gmail on my Nokia E51, using the IMAP, and the problem that I'm facing right now is that, on my active stanby screen, there are only two ways to see the unread it email: or ''new email notification(1) ; or ''Gmail and below I'am seeing the first two emails from my Inbox''. The way that I want to see that ''icon'' is like in the picture attached. In the picture is a Nokia E75, with the Gmail icon looking great and the numbers of the emails ured it. Why I am not able to setup and see my standby screen exactly like in the attachment???
    Attachments:
    gsmarena_020.jpg ‏108 KB

The E51 has been available for a year or two, and has a slightly older version of the Symbian S60 OS - the E75 is completely new and not available in the shops yet, it's software is completely up to date and so it has the latest improvements which your E51 lacks.
Unfortunately, the active stanby screen models like your E51 (and my old N82) is not customisable - your two choices are 'on' and 'off'. Only the latest E-series models have the more flexible 'home screen' approach that you see in your picture, this was first launched late last year with the E66 and E71.

Does the IMPS Wireless Village work on an E51? I can't seem to find any built-in chat application in this phone. Does it exist?

    this a example;

You do not need to disable the onboard.
As for the plug-in card, there is nothing in the BIOS to make it work 8x or 16x.
Make sure your card is seated correctly, else it will work but at lower number of lanes.
What program is telling you it's 8x?

Thanks to all for the replies
    @Sybrand
Please answer first whether the column is stored in a separate lobsegment.
No. Table,Index,LOB,LOB index uses the same TS. I missed adding this point( moving to separate TS) as part of table modifications.
    @Hemant
There's a famous paper / blog post about CLOBs and Database Flashback. If I find it, I'll post the URL.
Is this the one you are referring to
    http://laimisnd.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/lobs-and-flashback-database-performance/
By moving the CLOB column to different block size , I will test the performance improvement it gives and will share the results.
We dont need any data from this table. XML file contains details about finger prints and once the application server completes the job , XML data is deleted from this table.
So no need of backup/recovery operations for this table. Client will be able to replay the transactions if any problem occurs.
    @Billy
We are not performing XML parsing on DB side. Gets the XML data from client -> insert into table -> client selects from table -> Upon successful completion of the Job from client ,XML data gets deleted.
Regarding binding of LOB from client side, will check on that side also to reduce round trips.
By changing the blocksize, I can keep db_32K_cache_size=2G and keep this table in CACHE. If I directly put my table to CACHE, it will age out all other operation from buffer which makes things worse for us.
This insert is part of transaction( Registration of a finger print) and this is the only statement taking time as of now compared to other statements in the transaction.
    Thanks,
    Arun

  • Follow up to Apple TV & TCmuch improved over last two days

    I finally have it working.
copy a .m4v file internal hard drive to TC at 15.5 M/sec acceptable
add to itunes library in just a few seconds...
upload to Apple TV from TC speed is fine, much improved and acceptable, getting peaks of 11.15M/sec
Capacity on Apple TV shows and is correct
    no dropouts from itunes
I had to change a few things about my previous network...moved the TC to center of house near open door wall pointing at Apple TV.
Set TC to N speed wireless at 5 ghz , it will be dedicated to Apple Tv.
My network is complicated...TC is main router with two Extreme N bridged and one Express along with Vonage, HP USB 24/7, xbox360, e-cable to imac downstairs along with windows notebook.
Moving all these N + (B/G) extreme N routers towards the outside walls of the house helped also.
    Message was edited by: Smokerz

Interference was a big issue with all those routers set to N + (B/G) at 2.4 ghz.
TC is set to N at 5 ghz.

    Hi Steadyalberta,
Something might be preventing Photoshop from being able to save your selection on the dialog window properly. You might try right clicking and choose Run as Administrator on the Photoshop icon when launching (Windows) or test if the behavior persists when using a newly created admin user account.
