E51 - use WLAN for email in preference to network

I've recently got an E51 and have the WLAN connection working perfectly. I've set up email too, and every time I download email from my mailbox it establishes a network connection (GPRS I think - there's two tiny arrows in opposite directions below the network signal bars). But the phone is showing the WLAN connection symbol too, so how do I force it to retrieve email via the WLAN?

First you need to setup your WiFi connection on your phone.
Goto
Menu>Settings>Conection>Access Points
Select Options>New Access Points
Under Data Bearer Select Wireless LAN
Under WLAN Network Name, select Search for networks.
Once the network is found, enter the WiFi security setings if it is enabled, under the WLAN Security Settings option.
After this is completed, you should see your WiFi access point shown in the list of Access Points.
Now, go to your email set the default connection as your new Access Point which was just created. This would resul in the messaging application searching the new access point (WLAN one, which was created) while checking emails.

I'm sure others will disagree, but I'm all about saving $. I would start by looking online at the Apple store for refurbished devices. I would also get MORE memory than yout think you will ever need. The stuff we have seems always to expand to fill the space available. I wouldn't get one with cellular capability unless you really, really need it...

Apple has made several well-publicised statements regarding their commitment to privacy and the security of their various iCloud services. If they were to fall short of a goal they stated so prominently for so long, it would have a material effect on the company's value, not to mention being extremely embarrassing. I think they're pretty serious about it.
Like anything else though, iCloud is as secure as the passwords you use. To change your iCloud password read iCloud: Change your iCloud account password.

Can I use Thunderbird for emailing photos from iPhoto?

Under +Preferences>General>Email photos using+: gives me two options. One Mail and another Entourage. Now I am using Thunderbird for my mailing needs. How can I make iPhoto to use Thunderbird instead of Mail? Thanks!

In the Preferences to Mail there's an option to "Check for New Messages" and if you select "Manually" I think that will do what you want. However, as it's more a Mail query than an iPhoto one I would pop it on the Mail forum for your version of the OS.
Of course there are other ways to get photos to an email client. Does Thunderbird have a Media browser? You can access your Library from one - or make one in Automator which takes a couple of seconds. Or you can access your Library from every Open... or Attach... dialogue in the OS.

Do I have to pay just to use iCloud for email?

I've used Gmail for about almost 4 years now. I cleaned out my inbox and plan on doing away with Gmail and waant to use Apple's email service, making it my new primary email (for Facebook, new Apple ID, etc.). But do I have to pay to use the email service? I don't need the storage for my purchased items on iTunes.
Also what are the benefits of iCloud email?

iCloud email is an IMAP account, which means it syncs between all your devices and keeps your mail organised in the same way on each.

I use Comcast for email and my email downloads both on my iPad and on my macro which I want, but if I read and delete on either device it is not deleted on the other device. Anything I can do soma delete on one device deletes it on the other device?

If I delete an email on my iPad it is not deleted on my macro. I wonder if anyone knows how to delete on one device and have the deletion concurrently work on the other device I use Comcast e mail.

Had problems sending emails from my iphone and ipad through Comcast. Apple could not solve the problem, contacted Comcast and they stated that they had issues with the Apple iphone and ipad and told me to download the "Xfinity connect ap" did so and everything works better than before. When I used the Apple email had to trash what I did not want on Apple and then when I went to Comcast the email were still there. Using the xfinity ap, when I delete on the iphone or the ipad the emails are deleted at all places. Before I had to delete on my iphone and then my ipad and then when i went to my computer they were still there and I had to delete there also, which was a real pain. Still can send and rec email from my icloud account, but comcast email are handled through xfinity connect

I'm using AOL for email and Firefox 9.0.1. Problem started 2 days ago. Before that I put in the first two letters of an email address and it gave me a list of possibles. Now I get "undefined" for each possible instead of the email address.

After updating to Firefox 9.0.1 there were no problems. My contact list still shows as it did before this problem arose. When I type in the first letter or two of the email address, it used to give me a list of possibles. Now t is just showing the email address as "undefined" when it gives me suggestions for the email address I'm typing in the send line. This means that instead of being able to click on my choice in the possibles it gives me, I have to go to my contact list, find the name and then click on it if I'm sending the email to one person. If it goes to more than one, I either have to type in the full address or use copy and paste from the contact list. This is a huge hassle. Any help is appreciated.

I moved the file formhistory.sqlite to another file folder. I then started Firefox up again to see if it worked or if I needed to start it in Safe Mode. No need for Safe Mode. It now works exactly as it should. Thank you so much!!

I am not very tech savy and apologize in advance if my question is not clear. I use the Mail application on my mac and I have two users on my computer, one for gmail and another for my work email. All email addresses appear in the mail application on one page. When I open my email and click on a message it often goes to the other user screen and cuts off the top of my screen which shows the bar for Chrome, file, edit, view, history etc....Still functional but very annoying. How do I choose a user screen and stop having it switch back and forth.

When using Yahoo for email, the symbols for spellcheck, edit and fontsize are blank. If I hold the arrow over the space, it will show me what it is. This only happens with Mozilla, but works fine with Att.

If you think getting your web pages to appear OK in all the major browsers is tricky then dealing with email clients is way worse. There are so many of them.
If you want to bulk email yourself, there are apps for it and their templates will work in most cases...

I have iPhoto 11 (9.4.2) installed on a 13" and 11" Macbook Airs. Sharing pictures using email is different on both. The older 13" transfers the pictures to Mail with only the pictures and uses the standard Mail form. Looks like the Attach version with the airplane at the top laft to send the mail.
The newer 11" uses the templates, with the annoying text formatting floating about and the Templates panel floating over the text in the email.
How can I get the newer, Template enabled, to revert to the standard, nothing fancy format.
I tried to use a method in another thread to delete some caches. but in my Finder view, I do not see my computer or the Library on the 11".
Any suggestions?

Can an older ios device use iCloud for email?

I have an iPhone with ios 5. I am a MobileMe user. My wife uses an older ipod touch to check our email. Will she still be able to check and send email on that older ipod touch? If so, how can I set it up? I am reluctant to make the move because of it. (I don't care about the photo streaming or anything else on the touch, just email.)

Push: When an email is received it is instantaneously sent to your devices (no waiting).
Fetch: You must retrieve the message yourself either by opening the mail app or on a routine basis (every 5 min, 15 min, hour) which is set in settings.
As far as I know, push uses more battery power but it is not a significant drain. However, if you are trying to squeeze every possible second out of your device you should set your email to fetch and set it for manual (meaning you would have to open the Mail app in order to check to see if you have any new email.
Personally, I'd set everything to push. That way everything is synchronized across all devices automatically.

None, really. It's just an additional address that you can use if you want. Email sent to either address arrives in the same inbox. Apple is no longer providing @me or @mac email addresses, and is transitioning to @icloud going forward so they're giving existing iCloud users the new address as an option.

If both accounts are set up in Thunderbird, you can probably just drag-and-drop it from one account to another. Hold down control whilst doing so to make it a Copy rather than a Move, or use right-click and choose "Copy to…".
If you don't have both accounts in Thunderbird, you can send it by email. Forward it, or use "Edit As New", or use the Mail Redirect add-on.
